Shoot us a Text.Episode #1032: Today we break down Trump's new tariff offsets for U.S. automakers, GM's massive recall of its flagship V-8, and a heartwarming $50K donation from West Herr's CEO to support local youth.Show Notes with links:President Trump is throwing automakers a bit of a lifeline on tariffs—but it's not a free ride. His new executive orders are easing some of the pressure, but only if manufacturers meet some very specific conditions.Automakers who build vehicles in the U.S. can apply for a special reimbursement starting April 3, 2025.That reimbursement is worth 3.75% of the MSRP for the first year, dropping to 2.5% in year two.To qualify for the full break, at least 85% of the vehicle's parts have to be made in the U.S. or in a country covered by the USMCA.If a vehicle hits 50% U.S. content, the company will only pay tariffs on the remaining 35% instead of the full 50%.Parts themselves are also capped—companies can get reimbursed for components making up to 15% of a vehicle's value in year one, and 10% in year two.Vehicles and parts must be assembled in the U.S. to qualify, and a new system for applying is expected within 30 days.At a Detroit rally yesterday, President Trump said, “They took in parts from all over the world. I don't want that. I want them to make their parts here. We gave them a little bit of time before we slaughter them if they don't do this.”In news that hits close to home, General Motors has issued a voluntary recall of 721,000 6.2-liter V-8 engines due to potential engine seizure, affecting pickups and large SUVs built from March 2021 through May 2024.The issue stems from rod bearing damage caused by sediment and crankshafts with improper dimensions and surface finish.Faulty components were supplied by American Axle & Manufacturing and Questum Macimex.Dealers face backlog challenges as each engine swap takes over 22 hours and requires full replacement engines.GM says inspections will begin first; engines that pass will receive 0W-40 oil, a new filter, cap, and owner's manual update.“The safety and satisfaction of our customers are the highest priorities for the entire GM team,” said spokesman Bill Grotz. We'll end the show with a bright spot: During the Depew-Lancaster Boys & Girls Club's Spring Fundraiser, West Herr President/CEO Scott Bieler made a surprise $50,000 donation through his family foundation. The gift honored Bethanne Hollis, West Herr's VP of Variable Ops and a club board member. The donation helps offset major funding losses for the club this year.Funds will directly support local youth programs and services.“We are so lucky to have both of these amazing individuals leading the way,” West Herr statJoin Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier every morning for the Automotive State of the Union podcast as they connect the dots across car dealerships, retail trends, emerging tech like AI, and cultural shifts—bringing clarity, speed, and people-first insight to automotive leaders navigating a rapidly changing industry.Get the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/

In this episode of Being Catholic with Bob and Lynn Johnston on Catholic Spirit Radio, an in-depth exploration is conducted into the multifaceted relationship between Catholicism and Americanism. Uncover the clashes and common ground between these two powerful entities and their influence on contemporary society. Bob airs his perspectives on religious freedom, reflects on the failed attempts by John Courtney Murray to reconcile Americanism with Catholicism, and assesses the intensifying conflict between secular humanism and Christianity, particularly Catholicism. Listeners will discover the controversial concept of Christian Nationalism, as Bob analyzes an article from the National Catholic Register that expands upon this idea. This contributes to the increasing narrative that Christian Nationalism intends to impose theocratic rules on the United States, replacing democracy with 'Christo-fascism'. This episode prompts listeners to consider the poles of faith and governance, and the view that secular governance often constitutes an attack on Christian values. Also discussed is an upcoming Spring Fundraiser planned by Catholic Spirit Radio, which aims to raise $50,000 to ensure the continued broadcasting of the station for the rest of the year. Highlighted, too, are the extraordinary efforts of the FIRE Foundation of Central Illinois in supporting students with significant disabilities to attend parochial schools. This underlines the commitment of Catholic organizations towards fostering a more inclusive society. Delve into this engrossing exploration of the conflicts between Catholicism and Americanism and their subsequent impact on society. This episode is stimulating, informative, and immensely relevant to current global happenings.

One hundred years ago, in 1921, a man named Harry Pace started the first major Black-owned record company in the United States. He called it Black Swan Records. In an era when few Black musicians were recorded, the company was revolutionary. It launched the careers of Ethel Waters, Fletcher Henderson, William Grant Still, Alberta Hunter and other influential artists who transformed American music. But Black Swan's success would be short-lived. Just a couple years after Pace founded the company, larger, wealthier, white competitors started to take an interest in the artists whose careers Pace had propelled. Then, Pace's own life took a mysterious turn. **** This episode of Radio Diaries has support from the National Endowment for the Humanities and The Lily Auchincloss Foundation. On May 31, 1921, white mobs attacked a prosperous Black neighborhood in Tulsa, Oklahoma, known as “Black Wall Street.” As many as three hundred people were killed, and more than a thousand homes and businesses were destroyed. Olivia Hooker was six years old at the time. She remembers watching white men with torches come through her family’s backyard, and hiding under a table with her siblings. Radio Diaries interviewed Olivia Hooker about the massacre in 2018. Six months later, she passed away at age 103. During our Spring Fundraiser, we received a story that was too good not to share from a listener named Andrew. Here is what he had to say:“Dear Jeff and Rebecca,I listen to you KCBI every day. While I typically don’t enjoy your fundraisers, this current one really piqued my interest. I keep hearing about the 10,000 Bibles that you are giving to inmates in Texas. While most people don’t understand how significant this is, I actually know from firsthand experience. I was incarcerated in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for 5 1/2 years. I was just released in June of 2018. It was in prison that I first picked up a Bible, and learned who God is. When I was sentenced, it was the absolute lowest point of my life. I had no other choice but to look up to God and ask Him to pull me out of the pit that I had dug myself into. I know that many people think that jailhouse religion is just a crutch or something that inmates do in hopes of getting out of prison earlier, but for me, that jailhouse religion laid a foundation for my life. There was no way that I could have made it through that time without God. In prison, you are alone. But I learned that Christ was walking right along with me. He was walking with my family while I was gone. In the midst of being in prison, I was finally free for the first time in my life. I was free from the bondage of sin, only because of the blood of Jesus Christ.Being a follower of Christ in prison is one of the most difficult things that I’ve ever done. Believe it or not, prison isn’t full of angels and choir boys. If other inmates knew you were a Christian, then you were hiding behind the Bible, and you had better believe that they were going to test your walk as often as they could. But once I learned how to walk with Christ in prison, I knew that I’d be able to do it outside of prison, which in all honesty, is just as difficult now as it was then. But the way that I learned was by reading God’s Word every single day. I had a lot of time on my hands (no pun intended), so I devoted each day to learning more about God, His ways, His commands, His mercy, His forgiveness, and His love. I have been giving to KCBI, but I know that I need to increase my giving not only to God but for those that don’t know Him. For me, the only way that I can be successful outside of prison is by continuing to walk in a relationship with God that I established while in prison. I pray that more people give because God’s Word can change the broken lives within the prison system. Please feel free to share my testimony, if it can motivate just one person to give more. Thank you for being God’s servants.God Bless!AndrewEcclesiastes 12:13″

Donate to The Permaculture Podcast Online: via PayPal Venmo: @permaculturepodcast What is wealth? How do communities define wealth? What sustains you? Are you disconnected from the sources of sustenance? Where are our leverage points? How do we make use of those places to create change? These questions, and more, are examined in this episode with my guests Warren Brush, of Quail Springs Permaculture, and Jesse Peterson, of Inside Edge Design, LLC. The title for the show today comes from a pattern that Warren sees in the world: that as life and transition more to a digital space of screens we become incrementally more disconnected from what sustains us. Rooted in a conversation that opens with American politics and what Jesse and I observed via our respective permaculture networks, we move to Warren and his work internationally. This results in a longer than normal interview that takes us to a number of places of interest for anyone interested in social or political permaculture. Given the nature of this episode, it may not be for everyone, and I'd like to hear from you if you like this political commentary. Donate to The Permaculture Podcast Online: via PayPal Venmo: @permaculturepodcast Eddy Garcia of Living Earth Systems joins me to discuss Natural Aquaponics and how we can create beautiful, functioning systems whether we prefer to nerd out on the numbers or learn through observation and experience. Originally from Hawaii, and now in California, Eddy spent over 3 decades observing nature and living off-grid. Today he creates state-of-the-art closed-loop regenerative agriculture systems, on a foundation of aquaponics, designed for productivity, but with aesthetics in mind. Eddy's design process is motivated by a desire to build systems that mimic nature in both efficiency and beauty, while also building new earth. This results in aquaponics systems with an eye for building holistic systems which include a variety of living creatures. In these installations you can find fish, shrimp, copepods, fungal cultures, several different types of bacterial colonies, plants, worms, and, of course, humans. If you enjoy this conversation with Eddy, please leave a comment or a question below. We are planning a follow-up in a few months to discuss natural swimming pools. Donate to The Permaculture Podcast Online: via PayPal Venmo: @permaculturepodcast Can you live an enjoyable, self-indulgent life while remaining thrifty and at the same time not overtaxing Earth's resources? To have all of that sounds too good to be true. If you follow what Annie Raser-Rowland suggested in her book The Art of Frugal Hedonism, however, the answer rings out as a resounding Yes! There is a process to all of this, but we can achieve this goal by making choices that lead to more of what we desire, as we discover what holds us in rapt attention: the true pleasures of our lives. During our conversation, Annie uses her own life, as a artist, long-distance hiker, and forager, to model what we can expect by embracing frugal hedonism. The results lead to a life rich in time with those we care about and full of opportunities, for concerts, education, and the occasional luxurious restaurant meal. You might say this is minimalism, with a permaculture twist. After listening to this conversation, can you see making the changes to live this way? Would you want to? Leave a comment below. This week was our Spring Fundraiser at CIUT 89.5FM, but we still managed to make a proper show! The podcast here posted has all the 'call in now!' stuff cut out and we did an extended after-show to make it back to full-length but the result is some occasionally choppiness so please excuse. That aside, it was a great show and we think you'll love it! Angela Bischoff from the OCAA joins us at the top of the show to discuss some news and also talk about the complete waste of money (not to mention HUGE public safety hazard) Pickering Nuclear plant. Tim Nash - The Sustainable Economist joins us later in the program to preview his spot next week about the most recent Renewable Investment Scoreboard Report (sneak preview.. it tops $7 Billion this year). This is just a brief! Please check the website here for full show notes: https://greenmajoritymedia.wordpress.com/2016/04/15/saudi-arabia-smarter-than-canada-499/ We are 100% member supported and need your help!
