This weeks show is just that a weak show but that doesn't mean it has to be a boring show because guess who the guests are you! These last couple weeks have been loaded with guests and it was bound to come to an end with the 4/20 festivities over and the beginning of the event season starting,a small break is never a bad thing. And to he honest I'm a bit nervous about who I put on Flyer after last week (see last weeks flyer for more details) Of course we have a bunch of chat gang winners such as @tonybologna22 who picked up second place at @frankiegreenthumbs event with his Super Silver x Tangie , and Rosindogs, who all picked up an award at the kush and Sour Event in NYC this last week with @newterpcitynyc and their LMNO strain , oh yea gotta see how how many Hash “Wraps” he sold so I can collect my commish, I'm assuming they're going to chime in and contest that
DNA Genetics: Unique Strains for Hash, Amsterdam Beginnings, Legacy PartnershipWhen we say that today's guests are responsible for some of the biggest strains in the history of the plant, it's almost an understatement. We all grew up in the late 90s and early 2000s hearing about the cultural boom in Amsterdam, but these guys were living it.Blackleaf is blessed in the FSOTD studio by none other than Don and Aaron aka DNA Genetics, basically your OG's OGs, to discuss their migration to Amsterdam, running with legends like Sam the Skunkman and Dave Crockett, how they began breeding seeds in the early 2000s, coming back to the US, and the natural evolution of DNA Genetics that's turned them into a global brand with more hall-of-fame hitters than you can count. For the uninitiated, DNA Genetics is a renowned breeding company founded in Amsterdam in 2004, known for creating some of the industry's most iconic and award-winning strains. Some of these legendary strains include LA Confidential, Kosher Kush, and Tangie. DNA Genetics continues to innovate and expand with a strong global reputation, influencing the market through collaborations, seed distribution, and cutting-edge breeding techniques. You'll get to hear Don and Aaron dive deep into their ex-pat lives in Amsterdam and how they got their first building locked down, immediately started blowing massive tree, and had the cops bust down their doors on day 1. They soon partnered with a local coffee shop to grow and slang their creations, eventually having locals come in asking for seeds based on fire herb they blew just down the street. If you've ever heard of the “good old days” these were definitely them. You seriously can't count the number of unbelievable stories that are contained in this pod. Some of the other crazy tidbits that pop up during this episode include the DNA Genetics x Crockett Family Farms origin story and creating Tangie, how B-Real named the 24k strain, the LA Confidential story, how the Chocolope strain got its name on accident, growing seeds from Shantibaba himself, and how they got Barrington Levy to play an unforgettable High Times party in Amsterdam back in the day.Don and Aaron are undeniably living legends in the industry that continue to partner, expand, and take over the world with their renowned genetics. Look out for their upcoming releases with Sensi Seeds through their Breeding Grounds project, a global collaborative breeding project, the likes of which include Sherbinskis, Serge, Humboldt Seed Co., and more.Subscribe to our channel and the FSOTD.com site to keep up with other key players and enjoy conversations with trailblazers from the culture you can't find anywhere else. Tangie is a pastor, a pastor's wife, a life coach, a mother of four, and a new grandmother. Despite enduring past trauma, including sexual violation and disordered eating in her youth, which led to decades of yo-yo dieting, Tangie has managed to find peace and contentment through fasting, choosing foods that work well for her body, and listening to her body when it comes to both food and exercise approaches.Tangie's intermittent fasting journey began in 2022. The director of her gym explained intermittent fasting to her when she came in desperate, seven weeks before her daughter's wedding. Tangie started right away, and felt amazing by the wedding. Over time, Tangie has found the schedule that works best for her, and she stresses the importance of tailoring your fasting schedules to your individual needs, pointing out that more fasting isn't always better. The conversation then delves into the broader topic of personalized nutrition and how our bodies uniquely respond to various foods. Tangie recounts her negative experiences with the keto diet and how going through the Zoe program and switching to a diet of one-ingredient foods dramatically improved her health. She also shared her struggles with body dysphoria and negative self-talk, highlighting a pivotal moment of spiritual and physical healing when she began practicing positive affirmations. Gin and Tangie discuss the significant impacts that thoughts and words can have on our bodies, supported by scientific evidence. As the episode concludes, Tangie shares her weight loss progress, and the discussion switches to practical advice for others on similar journeys. Gin suggests using goal clothing instead of scales to measure success and focusing on a healthy lifestyle rather than just weight loss. Tangie's final advice: customize your food choices and fasting windows based on what feels right for your body, incorporate positive affirmations into your daily routine, and always make conscious decisions to improve your physical and mental health.Get Gin's books at: https://www.ginstephens.com/get-the-books.html. Founded in 1959 by Inez Hill and Louise Hudson, otherwise known as Mama Hill and Mama Louise, H&H Restaurant in Macon, GA is a Southern institution. In the 70s, Macon was home to the newly minted Capricorn Records, and H&H fed many of the musicians coming through the town, though it is most famous for its founders' unique friendship with the Allman Brothers Band, where the story goes if the band was high they had to come in through the kitchen door. That friendship took Mama Louise on quite a ride that included a seat on the Allman Brothers tour bus in 1972 and lifelong friendships with Gregg and the rest of the band. After Mama Hill died, H&H was closed for a little while, but in 2014, the Moonhanger Group reopened the historic restaurant in cooperation with Mama Louise, and soon after Tangie Myers and Kayla Price joined the restaurant to keep its legacy alive with crispy fried chicken, fluffy biscuits, and all the collards they could cook. H&H was named one of the top five meat-and-three joints by the Wall Street Journal in 2016, and the small place is not only filled with people six days a week, but it's also decorated with photos and concert posters of some of the musicians the restaurant has served through the years.
The subject of burnout is popping right now. I'm seeing it within our community especially for women writing to meet a deadline, but I'm sure it can help all of you not writing a dissertation too. We are all juggling multiple competing priorities in life. Burnout first technically coined by Herbert Freudenberger in 1975.He defined "Burnout" was defined by three components:Emotional Exhaustion - the fatigue that comes from caring too much, for too long;Depersonalization - the depletion of empathy, caring, and compassion; andDecreased sense of accomplishment - an unconquerable sense of futility: feeling that nothing you do makes any differenceI wanted to bring in a few different perspectives on burnout from books that I have read, to the teachings of other thought leaders, because I've done so much research on burnout. So much of the coaching I've done is around burnout and overwhelm. Burnout or Overwhelm? For those of you who are in overwhelm (and not actually burn out)… What do you have to believe in order to plan and do more? Solution to BURNOUT1. Pay attention to your thoughts… be aware of what you're thinking. Your thoughts create your feelings, your feelings inspire you to do or not do things. Your thoughts drive the actions you take. I teach a WHOLE module on this inside our Breakthrough program. What are your thoughts that are causing you to feel BURNOUT RIGHT NOW?So how can you think about your to-do list in a way that feels BETTER and gives you some relief, but is also a “doable” thought… meaning you BELIEVE IT. So one you do this first, then you can move on to the strategies below as part of the actions you are going to take. 2. Let go of how you think it should be. That thinking is not useful. "Shoulding" thoughts over yourself in general is only going to cause you to feel like crap.3. Be okay with B- Work… take imperfect action with a focus on growth and normalize failing. Embrace “good enough”. You aren't going to get an A on your dissertation, and most of you won't win an award. 4. Celebrate wins… ALL of them. Instead of looking at the mountain in front of you, take time to tie off and enjoy the view from how far you've come. 5. Find the good stuff… you are transforming into another version of yourself right now as you are growing and evolving. You are taking action and failing on purpose.6. Disconnect from technology - Take a break from screen time and spend some time looking out the window... connect with your breathing and daydream.7. Connected to a community - Join our Pod Squad private group and connect with other amazing women with big dreams!8. Future Pace - imagine yourself already having achieved everything you want in life. Place yourself as already having achieved it. Tap into that feeling now and take action as your future self. Lessons that she uses to coach her wellness clients and that she has also so graciously shared with us. Unhealthy Habits that contributed to weight gain for Dr. Tangie Eating quick fast meals (spaghetti_ Eating fast food Eating late Drinking alcohol Not drinking enough water Not eating fruits/vegables Drinking Energy drinks Not exercising Not sleeping and/or resting enough The turning point. The turning point for Dr. Tangie when she realized she needed to make a change in her lifestyle was becoming a mother. She wanted to be healthy for her future children and she also didn't want to gain additional weight from child birth without having healthy habits in place to get it off. In short, Dr. Tangie got to the point where she was tired of herself and the way she was feeling and decided to make a change. Dr. Tangie's Best Advice for Loving Your Body Do NOT rely on the scale as your only measure of wellness. The scale CAN be a good tool to keep you accountable on your wellness journey, but it should not be the only thing you use to measure your success. Check to see if you are getting stronger (i.e. can carry heavier weights than you used to), or your clothes are fitting less snugly or your endurance (ability to move for longer periods of time) is increasing. Finally, if the scale is making you feel bad about yourself because you don't like the number its displaying, STOP USING IT. Stand in the mirror naked (if you can), find something you love about your body and say it out loud. Mirror work and affirmations are wonderful tools for learning to love your body. How to Get Started on Your Wellness Journey Identify your why for starting your wellness journey. Determine how you feel about your self and assess how you feel both physically and mentally. then decide whether you like how you feel or what you need to start doing in order to change Find a supportive community. No journey should be undertaken in isolation. You need a supportive community to help you stay accountable and consistent on your journey.. Start small. Develop small, healthy habits. You don't have to start with working out for 60 minutes a day. Start with 20 minutes a day 3 days a week to develop consistency. The premiere episode of Season Two, Making Peace with My Body: A Conversation About Size, Weight and Wellness is a love letter to women of color. A letter to remind us that 1) our bodies, our weights and our shapes ARE healthy; and 2) the current standards of weight, beauty and wellness weren't created with our bodies in mind. The prevailing current standard includes the Body mass index (BMI), a standard health assessment tool developed in 1832 to easily identify and detect obesity in adults, that has long been criticized as an ineffective measure of health and/or obesity, yet is still used in most healthcare facilities today. According to Newsweek, an increasing amount of research shows that BMI and weight are not necessarily the main indicators of a person's health. Additionally, what's considered an unhealthy BMI—a number that may predict the onset of chronic diseases—is not the same across all races and ethnicities. Many who question the use of BMI in clinical settings point out that it's a health metric that's resulted from decades of research mostly conducted on white people. Research also suggests that weight distribution or where you carry the majority of the weight on your body matters. For example, carrying weight around the middle of your body near vital organs is particularly troublesome; whereas, carrying weight around your hips, thighs and booty are significantly less risky to your overall health These are also. areas of the body where women of color have historically carried a great proportion of their weight. I say all that to say that the game may not be rigged, but it certainly ain't fair. We need healthy examples of body image, weight and size that were created with us in mind. Until then, accept this love letter as well as the reminder that YOU GOT IT GOIN ON, GIRL. Join Syd and special guest, mother, wellness coach and momfidance coach, Dr. Tangie Grate as they discuss how to make peace with and love on your body during EVERY phase of your wellness journey (otherwise known as life). Dr Tangie Grate is a full-time, working community pharmacist and part-time wellness coach. She is married to her college sweetheart, and they share an adventurous toddler. Through her work as a wellness coach, Tangie is on a mission to help women feel confident in their current bodies , by helping them to developing sustainable habits that promote self-love and weight loss. She believes that a wellness routine can be effortless, energetic and empowering. Want to work with Tangie? Click here to join her community: https://linktr.ee/drtangiegrate SHOW NOTES On this episode of The Sugar Free Podcast, Dr. Tangie Grate shares her journey to wellness including the lessons she's learned along the way. Doing small things consistently is better than doing large things sporadically.
