Friends. Sometimes you get the egg whites, and sometimes you get the meaty yolks. Christina Martin is my sister from another mister who I've never even met - a and a multi award winning music maker and singer-songwriter from the east coast of Canada (and you can read all about her awesome accolades here) but I had the chance to have her back for round deux of Graventown - and this time, her rad partner and musical superstar collaborator and producer Dale Martin (google that guy for an impressive musical rap sheet) was able to join as well. I think we a had fun, disjointed, awesome, heartfelt, bizarre and sweet convo together about love, mental health, musical friends, the start of the lockdown days and so much more. I hope it finds you well.Catch me in a town near you (as I head out on tour soon with Stephen Stanley from The Lowest of the Low and The Stephen Stanley Band) by visting my website to see where I'm playing. If people can hate for no reason, I can love for no reason - and I love you. Thanks for stopping by Graventown. Yer always welcome here. This final session of the February 24 Climate Cooling Mini Summit was chaired by Sally Macadam (pictured), the co-ordinator of "Climate Emergency Australia". Sally led the workshop through discussions, including Adrian Whitehead from "Council and Community Action in the Climate Emergency"; Cr. Trent McCarthy from Darebin City Council, Trent set the wheels in motion several years ago to see Darebin become the first council in the world to declare a climate emergency; Dale Martin talked about the Local Government Climate Emergency Toolkit: and we heard about the "Climate Alliance". The Climate Cooling Mini Summit was a part of the "National Sustainability Living Festival". In this episode, Dale, Martin and Val explore the hype and ethics of such technology as Chat GPT. How can we use this for leveraging in projects, or are we all doomed? We explore the exciting times now and ahead related to AI and associated technologies. There has been a lot of signs and outreach by known people in the field that we should be careful and even slow down our race towards AI. is this justified? should we be more aware or what is happening or are we too far gone? All that and more on the podcast. Thanks to our sponsor: InEight.com --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/project-chatter-podcast/message
Going to a supermarket in America is one the great wonders of the world. You can buy almost anything you can imagine from all over the world - and if you consider everything that goes into that ear of corn or pound of ground beef it is amazing it doesn't cost orders of magnitude more. My guest today is Dale Martin who owns six farms over in Stuarts Draft raising crops and cattle. Dale's father farmed and Dale has been doing it all of his life. Dale talks about farming, the costs of equipment, practices and technology that has changed over time. I hope you enjoy today's show. -Brad---Email: bradrykalbrief@gmail.comTwitter: @bradrykalwebsite: bradrykal.comIf you like the show - subscribe, leave a review or tell a friend.

_______________ Obrigado aos mecenas do podcast: Julie Piccini, Ana Raquel Guimarães Galaró family, José Luís Malaquias, Francisco Hermenegildo, Nuno Costa, Abílio Silva, Salvador Cunha, Bruno Heleno, António llms, Helena Monteiro, BFDC, Pedro Lima Ferreira, Miguel van Uden, João Ribeiro, Nuno e Ana, João Baltazar, Miguel Marques, Corto Lemos, Carlos Martins, Tiago Leite Tomás Costa, Rita Sá Marques, Geoffrey Marcelino, Luis, Maria Pimentel, Rui Amorim, RB, Pedro Frois Costa, Gabriel Sousa, Mário Lourenço, Filipe Bento Caires, Diogo Sampaio Viana, Tiago Taveira, Ricardo Leitão, Pedro B. Show Notes: In this episode my fellow Mid-South Cartoonists Association members Kevin L. Williams, Greg Cravens and I pay respect and share stories about our friend and cartoonist Sam Ray who passed away in December, 2021. I've been wanting to get together with some of the local cartooning gang to record a tribute to Sam, and in spite of some technical difficulties we were able to record for a bit during the MSCA monthly zoom call this week (thanks to some quick thinking by Kev.) Another left-hander, Sam was a great cartoonist/writer & created his “Business As Usual” comic strips which were published in The Commercial Appeal, The Wall Street Journal, Harvard Business Review, Boy's Life, Reader's Digest, Barron's, Woman's World, Forbes, and our first MSCA comic anthology. He was also a writer on the "Hagar The Horrible" comic strip for 6 years. Sam was a soft-spoken artist who was always willing to talk toons and swap stories with other cartoonists at our meetings and events. He was part of the MSCA since it's creation in the late '80s, and will be greatly missed. 2022 represents the MSCA's 35th year of “drawing funny” and I got a recorded state of the association address from MSCA prez Kevin. He mentions some club history and discusses his future plans for our milestone anniversary year. One of which is the upcoming group art show “'Murica”, which will be presented February 17 – 27, 2022, at Germantown Community Theater alongside the comedy play, “The Complete History of America (Abridged).” This art show shares a variation of art styles and techniques from different members Terence Washington, Jim Palmer, Dale Martin, Greg Cravens, Kevin Williams, and Lin Workman (me). Studying the Bible can be a challenging endeavor, especially when we attempt to look for historical facts to justify the scripture, but is that really as helpful as we think? In this week's podcast, Warren and Jason welcome a guest to discuss the Bible and how we study the Bible, for better or worse. Dr. Dale Martin has been a New Testament scholar for many years, most recently he retired as the Woolsey Professor of Religious Studies at Yale University in 2018. He is the author of many books, most recently, Biblical Truths: The Meaning of Scripture in the Twenty-first Century. He also happens to be Jason's uncle. Dale's career was built on understanding the history of the Bible and how that may or may not align with tradition or even what the Bible itself says. Yet, he has found faith and truth in the words & meaning of the Bible that transcends whatever historical inaccuracies we might apply.Studying the Bible can be a challenging endeavor, especially when we attempt to look for historical facts to justify the scripture, but is that really as helpful as we think? MSU history professor Dale Martin draws upon themes and stories from his 2018 book “Ties, Rails, and Telegraph Wires: Railroads and Communities in Montana and the West,” published by the MHS Press. The book explores how railroads shaped and sustained the human landscape and economy of the West, Montana, and Billings well into the middle of the twentieth century. Railways provided essential transportation to communities and businesses. Passenger trains carried people, mail, express, money, newspapers, and milk in steel cans. Town residents knew the telegraphers and other station staff, track maintenance workers, and crews on local trains. People went to the station to meet arriving family members, see campaigning politicians, greet returning sports teams, or just to watch travelers and fellow citizens. Martin also covers the railways, trains, stations, and railroaders in the Billings-Laurel area and the activities at the Billings Union Station a century ago.

Dale Martin provides examples of recurring episodes of boom—and the unanticipated aftermath of busts—that brought rapid changes to Montana's landscapes and communities. Most of this sudden rise and fall resulted from events and trends—changes in technology, distant markets, and two world wars—that occurred far beyond Montana's borders. Living in Butte in the 1980s, Martin witnessed firsthand the tumultuous hopes and disappointments of a mining town. Presented at the 2013 Montana History Conference in Sidney.
