Astronomy Daily - The Podcast: 4th September 2024Welcome to another episode of Astronomy Daily, your go-to source for the latest in space and Astronomy news. I'm your host, Anna, and today we have some fascinating stories to delve into, from groundbreaking research uncovering how spaceflight affects human physiology to the thruster issues delaying the BepiColombo spacecraft's journey to Mercury. We also have the intriguing tale of a peculiar noise heard on NASA's Starliner and a look at how a titanic asteroid impact reshaped Jupiter's moon Ganymede. So sit back, relax, and let's explore the cosmos together.Highlights:- Spaceflight and Human Physiology: Recent research has shed light on how spaceflight extensively alters the gut microbiome, a bustling community of bacteria essential for digestion and immune function. Led by researchers from University College Dublin and McGill University in collaboration with NASA, the study revealed significant shifts in specific bacteria, affecting gene expression related to immune and metabolic functions. These findings have profound implications for astronaut health during long-duration missions and could also benefit health protocols here on Earth.- BepiColombo's Thruster Issues: The European-Japanese BepiColombo spacecraft has faced thruster issues, delaying its arrival at Mercury until 2026. Launched in 2018, BepiColombo needs to follow a complex route involving multiple flybys. However, a glitch in the spacecraft's thrusters has led to inadequate thrust. Engineers have revised the spacecraft's trajectory, allowing it to still achieve its scientific objectives despite the delay.- Peculiar Noise on NASA's Starliner: Astronaut Butch Wilmore reported hearing a strange pulsing noise from Boeing's Starliner spacecraft docked to the ISS. NASA explained that the noise originated from feedback in the audio configuration between Starliner and the ISS. This issue had no technical impact on the crew or the spacecraft's operations.- Titanic Asteroid Impact on Ganymede: Research led by a planetologist from Kobe University has revealed that an asteroid impact around 4 billion years ago reshaped Jupiter's moon Ganymede. The impact was so colossal that it altered not just Ganymede's surface but potentially its rotation as well. This ancient event provides invaluable insights into the early solar system's dynamics and the moon's geological history. For more space news, be sure to visit our website at astronomydaily.io. Boeing's Starliner space capsule blasted off for its first crewed test flight in early June. Great news right? Turns out, no. After arriving at the International Space Station, some technical problems meant that it couldn't be used to take its crew of Barry ‘Butch' Wilmore and Suni Williams back to Earth. The two astronauts were left with no way to get home. The two capsules already docked at the space station couldn't be used, so the astronauts were stranded. Let's find out what happened to Starliner, why couldn't the other capsules be used, and how are the Starliner crew going to get home?Follow Cosmic Coffee Time on X for some special content X.com/CosmicCoffTimeYou can request a topic for the show! Welcome to Astronomy Daily, where we cover the latest in space and astronomy news. I'm your host, Anna. Today we've got an exciting lineup that will take you on a journey through some of the most intriguing recent updates in the cosmos. We'll start with NASA's latest move to push the Crew-9 mission launch to September as they delve into the intricacies of Boeing's Starliner spacecraft. Then we'll shift gears to explore groundbreaking research that peels back the layers on Venus, revealing that our inhospitable "evil twin" might share more in common with Earth than we ever imagined. Finally, we'll spotlight a compelling study on red dwarf stars and how their stellar flares could pose both challenges and potentials for habitability on nearby exoplanets. So grab your telescopes and your curiosity, and let's dive into today's episode.NASA's Crew-9 Mission Postponed: NASA is postponing the launch of the Crew-9 mission to September due to ongoing analysis of Boeing's Starliner spacecraft. This delay will give mission managers more time to finalize plans for the Boeing crew flight test, which is currently docked at the International Space Station. Thruster issues with the Starliner spacecraft have been the main concern. NASA is taking this extra time to analyze the results of recent hot fire testing and to ensure the reliability of the integrated propulsion system. Until either the Starliner or Crew-8 Dragon departs the space station, there will be no available docking ports for the Crew-9 mission.- Venus's Geological History: New research suggests that Venus, often dubbed Earth's inhospitable "evil twin," may have once been tectonically active despite its current stagnant lithosphere. Today, Venus is known for its extreme surface conditions, temperatures hot enough to melt lead, and surface pressures intense enough to crush most materials. However, this new study reveals that the planet's surface features such as faults, folds, and volcanoes indicate a history of significant tectonic activity.- Red Dwarf Stars and Habitability: A recent study has shed light on the potential dangers facing habitable planets around red dwarf stars. The research, led by astronomers from the University of Hawaii Institute for Astronomy, reveals that these stars can emit far-ultraviolet radiation at levels much higher than previously believed. This finding has striking implications for the habitability of planets orbiting red dwarfs.- (00:00) Astronomy Daily brings you the latest in space and astronomy news- (00:49) NASA is postponing the launch of the crew nine mission to September- (04:54) New research suggests Venus may have once been tectonically active- (06:49) Red dwarf stars emit far ultraviolet radiation at levels much higher than previously thought- (09:12) That's it for today's episode of Astronomy DailyFor more Astronomy Daily, including our continually updating newsfeed, visit our website at astronomydaily.io. I am very honored to welcome the esteemed Crow from Crrow777 Radio to the show to discuss a topic that is of great interest to me: the nature of consciousness. Where does it come fro.? Where does it reside? Can it be created in a lab? Will reportedly "sentient AI" be alive or will it simply be a simulacrum? As the dark forces of the realm recklessly charge humanity into technocratic hell, envisioning themselves as "gods", we pause today to discuss what is possible, what isn't and what they will attempt to achieve regardless of nature and reality. Uncontrolled thruster firings on a new Russian space laboratory module, just hours after it docked with the International Space Station, caused quite the stir among space agencies earlier today. The situation is now reportedly under control, although the mishap is already pushing back other missions as a result: the Boeing Starliner OFT-2 launch to the International Space Station is now delayed. Other trips to the Station may be delayed or canceled as well. Russia's service module, docked to the other side of the Station, fired thrusters to cancel out the push coming from the thrusters firing in error. No astronauts were lost during the incident. In other news, a tsunami warning was issued earlier in the day after a strong 8.2 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Alaska. This is FULCRUM - real news from America's capitol and around the world.

We all hope to move around more and more in space going forward, including to and from places like the Moon and Mars. We need in-space propulsion for that. My guests this week, the co-founders of Neutron Star Systems, are working on this. Specifically, they are using a superconductor-enabled plasma propulsion system … but bear with us: as always, we are keeping things non-technical. My guests Manuel and Marcus did a great job explaining their work in an engaging and easy-to-follow way. Enjoy! Galapagos Marine Life in Danger. These are lights from the 265-vessel Chinese fishing fleet that threatens the Galapagos. The boats are now operating at the edge of the protected marine reserve taking fish and sharks from the major migration route between Cocos and Malpelo, and the world is up in arms about it. The fleet of Chinese “ghost ships” were falsely reporting their location within New Zealand waters while they fished off the Galapagos Islands. Six of the fleet are transmitting false information via their Automatic Identification System transponders. The Ecuadorian Navy has deployed its limited fleet to protecting the reserve but with little hope of stopping the fishing and protecting the animals traveling past. This includes the largest female whale sharks In 2018, scientists equipped with Thruster units on their scuba tanks, managed to make ultra-sound recordings on the distended bellies of three of these pregnant giants, aiming to unravel one of the ocean's great mysteries -- where do they give birth? But, more research is needed to untangle the significance of the area to whale shark reproduction. “Unchecked Chinese fishing just on the edge of the protected zone is ruining Ecuador's efforts to protect marine life in the Galápagos,” the former Quito mayor Roque Sevilla has said. Hi, This is the last episode for 2020 and brings to a close a big year for me. I've started my accredited BFR workshop, seen BFR Podcast and the product demand grow. I've also designed my first piece of strength training equipment called the G-Thruster. It is a machine to help with the Hip Thruster movement and the feedback has been great. So today's episode is a case study looking at how using the Hip Thruster (G-Thruster) could be utilised to improved strength and hypertrophy of the lower body. It utilises a high-frequency (daily) and low load training methodology as per other BFR studies. Other strength-based studies (i.e.Squat, Leg Extension and Bench Press), high frequency (daily or twice daily) training using low load BFR has reported significant improvements in muscle hypertrophy and strength measures. This case study also incorporates a few other important points: The muscular response to BFR training has been shown to be both distal and proximal to the cuffs. Furthermore, it is the exercise that uses specific muscles that gets the desired response. In other words, if you want response of the gluteals with BFR you need to incorporate Hip Extension and Glute biased exercise. Hip thruster movement has been shown to be an effective PAP for sprinting, which leads to a potentially good exercise to incorporate into strength training programs. Furthermore, the hip thruster is a great strength stimulus for athletes who can't load heavy axially through the spine (e.g. squat). The case study involved the following: 2 weeks - daily (3 x week - twice daily) Hip thruster - double (+40kg) and single leg (+20kg) Reps x sets - Set 1 = 20-30reps, Set 2-4 = 10-15reps BFR - continuous pressure (50% AO) using a 10cm wide cuff Measurements: Girth: Glutes (max circumference) and thigh (3 points: proximal third, mid-thigh & distal third) Strength measure - Single Leg isometric maximal force output Glute (knee at 90deg) Hamstring (knee at 170-180 deg) Although the case study on me, my measurements are relatively stable so any changes would be due to the new stimulus. The podcast goes through the results however I did see some very interesting girth and strength improvements lending support to using this type of training for athletes that are injured or trying to quickly accelerate change during specific time periods. In closing for the year, thank you for your support. I appreciate your interaction and comments. See you in 2021 for a bigger and better year.

This episode shows a different type of musical journey and approach to music-making outside of the classical world! I speak with bass player Kaveh Rastegar about his journey building a successful and varied international career, and his hands-on approach to creating music and to practicing. Kaveh is highly on-demand in the LA scene and collaborates with some of today's most popular artists like CeeLo Green and Bruno mars. Kaveh has a fascinating background, playing a wide range of genres, from classical to reggae and punk rock. He is a member of the Grammy nominated band Kneebody and is currently on tour with singer John Legend. His story is a great reminder, especially for those at the starting stages, that a musical career is not just about big gestures and big decisions. It's built with the succession of little events that might seem inconspicuous at first, but end up adding up and can lead us to so many great opportunities and accomplishments. Whether it's a chance meeting, a conversation, or being exposed to something new - all of this can open a world of new possibilities. Later in the episode, Kaveh delivers inspiring insight on how to continue growing after college, going after your dreams, and keeping your enthusiasm and spark for music alive. Get ready to be inspired by Kaveh's story! He elaborates on: His story, from growing up in Colorado and learning to play by ear, to attending Eastman, and playing in the biggest stages in the world How he was exposed to an incredibly wide range of music growing up and how that shaped him How he came to choose the bass The different things he learned from the many genres and experiences he had as a young musician How he started playing gigs around his hometown and how that created the basis for the many strong connections and friendships that deeply influenced his career His experience at Eastman How practice becomes different after school – how we need to seek out teachers and seek our own answers How his practice today involves a mix of methodical exercises and creative experimenting His creation process, involving collaboration with friends and artists he admires, improvisation, and experimentation How easy it is to start comparing ourselves and how it is important to celebrate all the small victories How important it is to set goals ALL ABOUT KAVEH: Website: http://kavehrastegar.com/home.html His discography: https://www.discogs.com/artist/538980-Kaveh-Rastegar YouTube Light of Love: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIgWIgmC_t8 Facebook page : https://www.facebook.com/kavehrastegarmusician/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kavehrastegar/?hl=en Twitter: https://twitter.com/kavehrastegar Kaveh Rastegar is a Grammy nominated Electric and Upright bassist. While CG and the gang recover from a rigorous NARCON 2017 recording session, and all the post-production that went into it, the gang thought this would be a good time to re-broadcast an episode from season 1 along with some current news, Patron information, as well as responding to some recent Post-NARCON e-mails and some twitter chatter. The original Throne Thruster episode aired as two parts, and features Larry Koskie of the Michiana Rocketry club talking about all the engineering and physics challenges centered around turning an actual Porta-Potty into a flying high power odd-rock, and doing it is a safe manner! This is no, “Bubba, Hold my beer†launch, and the topics were quite fascinating! Plus, the gang respond to tweets surrounding one of our loyal listeners stumbling across our rocket logo elsewhere on the web.

Bret Contreras (http://bretcontreras.com) is considered by many as the foremost expert in glutes training. Bret has authored books, written numerous sports-science related articles, as well as adds the title of inventor to his attributes thanks to his creation of "The Hip Thruster." Although Bret works with a variety of clients, it is his long list of female clients who have found success in not only reshaping their bodies, via Bret's coaching, but reshaping and redefining what it means to have a great set of glutes. Just look at the before and after shots on his testimonials page, & you'll see what we mean. Bret took some time to chat with the LLA podcast nation about the following: How Bret went from being a fitness business lurker to becoming one of the most sought-after strength coaches What kept Bret from submitting his articles to the popular website T-nation, early in his career Why you will probably never find an article about the Turkish Get up written by Bret Why does Bret loath high-rep training Bret shares why he feels heavy swings are a better fit for athletes than olympic lifts or jump squats Why the kettlebell swing is a good form of assistance work for deadlifts How do 106lb kettlebells compare to trap bar deadlifts, and why Bret female clients love to train with the 106 pounder Why is Bret the go-to guy for all things glutes, or as we like to say, how did he become the ultimate "ass man." What did Bret's neighbors think about all of the bikini-clad women who constantly visited his condo What has been Bret's success with training clients via the poorman's glute ham developer What did Bret learn from researchers in Auckland, regarding eccentric training & how they could help prevent hamstring injuries What are Nordic Ham Curls and how are they beneficial Why static stretching does not lengthen the muscles What prompted a controversial YouTube rivalry between Brett & Charles Poliquin Why is Bret's current pursuit of his PhD so important to him & how it can benefit the strength training world Bret the inventor, Shark Tank, & the flaws with "5 Year Plans" All this and much more:Listen and download at http://strengthbymahler.com or http://newwarriortraining.com. or subscribe, download, rate & review us at:iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/live-life-aggressively-podcast/id646524617 Stitcher: http://www.stitcher.com/s?fid=34706&refid=stprAlso, be sure to "like" and connect with us on our Facebook fan page at http://facebook.com/llapodcast.

Ryan, however, would be sipping just fine on his Balcones Rumble, whatever the gravity. 00:23:22 - Trailer Trash Talk gets cutesy with the upcoming Disney documentary Chimpanzee. 00:36:23 - Jacob wishes we could live long enough to take advantage of ion thrusters (which he's written about before on the Paleocave blog), Ryan wants to know what this means for TIE fighters, and Ben finally understands the aerodynamics of the Star Wars universe. 00:53:47 - PaleoPOWs are a lot like ion thrusters, they take a long time to get going but are hard to stop. Ben has a tangent promoting e-mail from Peggy. Jacob helps Randy answer an elementary math question. And Ryan reads a website comment from Kevin with a bit more info on pterosaur taxonomy.
