Episode 355 of RevolutionZ has as guest DSA activist and former Massachusetts state representative Tom Gallagher to discuss how leftists too often "do the billionaires' work for them" by attacking allies over ideological purity. When Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders face vicious criticism from fellow progressives with headlines like "AOC is a genocidal con artist" or "Bernie is a ghoulish Zionist," something has gone terribly wrong with movement politics. Gallagher dissects this suicidal tendency with the perspective of someone who's witnessed decades of progressive movements building and fracturing. He describes how the Sanders campaigns temporarily broke through this cycle by demonstrating mass support for progressive policies and bringing people together around concrete goals. He contrasts this practical engagement with the sectarian tendencies that flourish especially in online spaces, where discourse lacks nuance and rewards extremism. The episode examine the challenges facing organizations like the Democratic Socialists of America as they navigate questions of electoral strategy, ideological consistency, and practical governance. The example of Zohran Mamdani's mayoral campaign in New York serves as a test case. How can a socialist be an effective mayor while maintaining progressive principles.Drawing on historical examples from Milwaukee's "sewer socialists" to the fragmentation of previous left movements, this discussion offers essential insights for anyone committed to building effective progressive power. Rather than treating disagreement as betrayal, Gallagher advocates recognizing common ground and directing our energy toward the actual systems of power and inequality that progressive movements exist to challenge.Support the show

In this episode, we hear from Tom Gallagher, CEO of Diversified Automation and a former Penn State classmate. Who'd have thought we'd reconnect all these years later via a podcast? Listen for Tom's real-world insights and career advice shaped by his global business experience. Tom recently stepped into the role of CEO at Diversified Automation following its acquisition by Leadec, a German powerhouse in the automotive and manufacturing sectors. Their newfound, shared vision leverages Leadec's international scale to develop opportunities for innovative and advanced automation in manufacturing and package handling. The companies have worked with Mercedes-Benz, Ford, Chevy, Amazon, DHL, FedEx, UPS, and more. Tom regrets not having learned German, though he couldn't have predicted the country's influence on his career at the outset. He explains how government-mandated work safety and life balance requirements mean German citizens can only work so many hours a day. During one visit, he and his associates were not allowed back in the building after an evening meal! His global experience yielded other surprising customs: When traveling for business internationally, your hosts may expect you to dine and socialize outside the office. In Germany, people like to walk for fresh air and exercise before and after dinner. His colleagues often pick a restaurant 15 to 20 minutes away to enjoy the time together. Breakfasts can vary widely worldwide! Some European breakfasts feature an array of meats and cheeses, completely unlike typical American fare. Singapore's charming "Toast" shops offer avocado toast and matcha tea, showcasing the city-state's unique blend of Eastern and Western influences. Like many in global business, Tom grappled with common concerns: How do you pick the right partners in unfamiliar territories? How can you anticipate trade limitations varying wildly from country to country? He recounts instances where equipment from China was barred entry into Korea and Vietnam, causing unexpected delays. In every case, a good and knowledgeable partner will help to avoid these issues. Similarly, Tom's experiences underscore the value of expertise in translation, interpreting, and communication across language barriers. He found bilingual professionals with relevant industry knowledge invaluable for technical discussions and high-stakes negotiations. Their nuanced understanding of language and subject matter far outperformed general translators or AI solutions, especially in technically complex fields. His final, best advice: “If you have the opportunity to do international work, do not hesitate to say ‘YES!'” You will learn so much through travel, the interactions with local people, the experience of seeing how people live, and exposure to different cultures. Don't worry about failing,” he adds. “You may. That's OK. You will learn from it.” Links: Website: https://diversified-automation.com/ https://usa.leadec-services.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tom-gallagher-5b52934/ Connect with Wendy - https://www.linkedin.com/in/wendypease/ Music: Fiddle-De-Dee by Shane Ivers - https://www.silvermansound.com

Today I talked to Tom Gallagher about his new book Europe's Leadership Famine: Portraits of Defiance and Decay 1950-2022 (Scotview, 2023). Representative democracy endured in Europe because its political leaders' deviousness and self-advancement were balanced by altruism, fortitude and civic virtue. However, in this century, the reputation and calibre of politicians has slumped in country after country, as fads, image, process, triviality and spin are promoted over experience, prudence and long-term outcomes. National leadership roles are increasingly filled by inexperienced careerists, who are disconnected from the people on whose behalf they are supposed to rule. This week's Ours to protect shines a light on the efforts being made by the Tipperary Barn Owl Project to address the increase in deaths of Barn Owls along a particular stretch of motorway. Our Reporter Alison Hyland travelled to Thurles to meet Tom Gallagher from the Tipperary Barn Owl Project to see what easures are being taken.
While the number of Barn owls in Ireland is on the decline, Tipperary has actually bucked the trend and has seen an increase in numbers with Tipperary now home to almost 25% of Ireland's entire Barn Owl population. This achievement can be traced back to a Primary school project in Ballycahill in the early 90's. Our reporter Alison Hyland went to speak to Tom Gallagher from the Tipp Barn Owl Project to find out more....
Listen in as Tom discusses the importance of trusting your gut, using simple systems, and documenting your progress. Tom Gallagher has been on the podcast a few times before. He is co-owner of the subscription-based events company SweatNet with licensees all over the US, but he recently used his entrepreneurial instincts to kick off SkyCycle - a spin studio that operates on top of the roof of a smoothie bar here in Charlotte, NC. This is by far one of my favorite stories regarding microgym business success. @sweatnetcharlotte @skycycleclt --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/wtfgymtalk/message

Dear Curt Thanks again for taking the time to speak to me by phone a couple weeks ago. You gave me a lot of insight as to how the system works and that was very helpful. I am still perplexed about whether or not the state has constitutional authority over exotic animals vs. native wild animals but maybe we can talk that one through some time when you have a few minutes to chat. When I told Roy Harrell that you suggested I meet with Commissioner Meehan, he set it up and we met last week. Remembering your advice about him being a hunter I tried to keep focused on the exotic pet problem and that was effective. He seems genuinely concerned and took the initiative to get Col. Julie Jones from FWC on a conference call to discuss my potential service on the Captive Wildlife Committee. I had written Captain Linda Harrison and Ken Haddad and had been told that the people from 1994 had all agreed to reconvene the group and I would not be needed. After speaking with Commissioner Meehan, Col. Jones said she would be mailing me an invitation this upcoming week but that she was inviting a lot of people who would then be screened by a facilitator for final selection. I sent the attached letter at the suggestion of Commissioner Meehan that I fully detail why I should be selected. It is long and self serving, but given the credentials of the people on the committee in 1994 (9 out of 10 made their living off exotic animal use) I should have a chance at serving if it truly is the purpose of the committee to look at the rules objectively. Thought you might want to know that David referred to you as “the voice of reason”. He asked Gloria Johnson to call me and we are playing phone tag, but I hope to speak with her soon. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction. For the cats, Carole Baskin, Founder (813) 493-4564 best way to reach me S. Hospitality Leaders - Interviews with hotel, event, and food service experts
On this episode of the Hospitality Leaders podcast, I'm joined by Tom Gallagher, General Manager at Columbus Country Club. We discuss the ways Tom's style of communication strengthens his team. Contrary to much of the hospitality industry, Columbus Country Club became a haven of sorts for guests during the Covid-19 pandemic. This was due largely to the commitment shown by Tom's team to enhance their guests' experience. Tom has cultivated a work environment where his team is passionate about doing their job well and feel empowered by management to achieve success. Tom has accomplished this through his constant, open, and often informal style of communication. Tom treats his staff almost like his guests, asking about their kids' soccer games and remembering their birthdays. It's created an environment of trust, where his team is comfortable communicating with him openly. That trust goes both ways. When his team is open about their concerns and their needs, Tom is comfortable trusting them to use the tools he's given them to work diligently to the best of their ability. Tom shares with me how this method of communication has built an outstanding company culture — one from which everyone benefits. The Brexit Bounce continues, and predictions that the sky would fall in, everything would run short, and we wouldn't even get our medicine have tumbled one after the other. The fate of the car industry after Brexit was one of the most commonly deployed tropes. And so, when Nissan made its announcement last week that it was investing £1 billion in Sunderland in a new electric car development, there was much rejoicing – except amongst the most embittered Remainers. To discuss how Brexit's going, we invited esteemed economist and former banking guru Dr. Gerard Lyons aboard Sputnik. Portugal, like Spain and Greece, was a dictatorship until the middle of the 1970s. All three dictatorships had similarities and differences. In Greece, it was a military junta; in Spain, El Caudillo General Franco, the flamboyant fascist whose thousands of graves are still being uncovered; and then there was the forgotten man, the Portuguese dictator Salazar. Antonio Salazar ruled Portugal from 1932 to 1968, when he was succeeded by his protege Marcelo Caetano. The whole show was overthrown in the Portuguese carnation revolution of 1974. There's a whole generation of people who've never heard of Salazar and so, 51 years after his death, author of new book ‘Salazar: The Dictator Who Refused to Die' Tom Gallagher, emeritus professor of politics at Bradford University, is more than timely in boarding Sputnik.

This week's Open Mic guest is Tom Gallagher, CEO of Dairy Management Incorporated. Few commodity groups in the nation have seen greater challenges than dairy farmers over the past several years. The COVID pandemic, higher feed costs, consolidation in the processing industry and drought are just a few of the challenges producers have endured. Yet, prices have stabilized and consumers continue to seek dairy products. Tom Gallagher says the industry is adapting to marketing concepts that reach younger consumers and sharing the dairy message of sustainability to an information thirsty consumer.

This week's guest on Open Mic is Tom Gallagher, CEO of Dairy Management Incorporated. Headlines from the dairy industry would suggest a sector under siege with a loss of fluid milk processors and dairy farmers. Gallagher says there are positives to discuss in consumer demand, but the industry needs a paradigm shift to meet a health-conscious consumer's changing lifestyle. He outlines the group's 2030 plan, speaks to the challenge the checkoff program faces from animal rights activists and more.
While the dairy industry has seen improved financial stability this year, Tom Gallagher CEO of Dairy Management Incorporated says the combination of larger global supplies and unstable economies makes the 2015 dairy outlook more challenging. Domestically, Gallagher says DMI has signed seven different partnerships to boost fluid milk consumption to a health and wellness minded consumer base. The effort will see an investment of over half a billion dollars in new packaging and new products to grow market share at home and with consumers around the world.Jeff NalleyTom Gallagher, CEO of Dairy Management Inc.
