S6E48 went out live on Rebel Rock Radio on 30 Nov 2023.  All last week's technical problems were sorted and we had a hassle-free show other than the fact that I forgot to turn on the inverter before load shedding which took us off air for 5 min.  The podcast is fine but that's what that was about when I mentioned it.  The show kicked off and closed off with KISS.  This amazing band are largely responsible for my love for rock and metal.  As detailed in the Book The Story of Rock and Roll, once I heard KISS for the first time I was hooked forever.  KISS are playing their last show on 2 Dec 2023 and that will be at Madison Square Gardens.  After that, it's the end of KISS as a live act.   That is what the band are saying whether or not they will ever do a one-off who knows The Immortals track this week was ‘The King Will Come' off Wishbone Ash's career highwater mark Argus.  Amazing track by an amazing band.   This week's Diabolical Challenge looked at 1998: Marilyn Manson -Mechanical AnimalsSystem of a Down – System of a DownPearl Jam – WishlistKid Rock – Devil Without a Cause Artists Featured:  KISS, Burn Halo, Hinder, Dave Hause, Volbeat, Joel Hoekstra's 13, Elegant Weapons, Coheed & Cambria, Hell Fire, Black Stone Cherry, Frank Marino, Whitesnake, Montrose, Van Halen, Yngwie J. Episode 29 of Season 5 kicked off live on Rebel Rock Radio at 7 pm on 21 July 2022.  I reckon this was one of the coolest starts ever and featured a little clip of Tom Petty telling the audience in Inglewood to clear the aisles.   The original idea to have a mellow start was blown to Smithereens by Therapy with ‘Trigger Inside' followed by Scorpions and UFO with ‘Blackout' and Lights Out' respectively.  Punches were being swung at the government and all was good.  We took a listen to Trivium, Matt Heafy's band and they have really grown on me.   This week is based on last week's aborted show but with some super-excellent enhancements.  I am in a far better mood.     We checked out Tindrum a band that I found on the Phil Wright Tapes,  in a continuation of what I call tracks from Tracks From The Grave,  we checked out a track called Street Fighter by Tindrum.  From there we had Welcome to the Circus, brand new from Five Finger Death Punch.  This time last week I was losing my rhythm, resetting streams, and generally pissing the listeners off so it was great to be able to do this show justice.  Some of it has changed, mainly the sentiment (happy, grateful) but most of it stayed the same.  Blue Öyster Cult hit the spot with a track called ‘Fight', which we must.  We then entered the ‘Belly Of The Best' with Sixx A.M., this bit got a bit personal with the current state of things in SA.  I experienced an armed robbery last week, 9 guys moved into our factory and took us prisoner, lie on the floor type shit you see in the movies.  We managed to outwit them and set off the alarm but it could have ended very badly.  The next two songs, Bastards by Machine Head and (Don't let Em) Grind Ya Down by Motörhead summed up the need to fight this shit.  We cannot let the bad guys win.  Things balanced out with Rival Sons and the stoic sentiments of Good Things and we let the power of great rock music do its work, Bad Company, and Foreigner were good medicine. We had the evolution of female vocals with Sheryl Crow, Lzzy Hale, and Alisa White-Gluz.  We sorted out the UK Punk with Stiff Little Fingers, Sex Pistols and The Stranglers, and US Punk with Fall Out Boy and The Distillers.   Brody Dale is such an iconic rock chick, she should do more albums.  We ended the show with a lot of SA music and started with Springbok Nude Girls, then Mark Haze, then Nibs Van Der Spuy.  People wanted more so we had Valiant Swart and we went out with Johnathan Martin's amazing track 'I Wish You Well'.   The highlight of the show for me was the shout-out to Danny De Wet and his awesome book Sex, Drums and Rock n Roll……In Africa.  I spent time with Danny last weekend and he managed to get my book into the hands of Lucien Windrich who took TSORR on the plane with him back to the UK after a very successful Johnny Clegg tribute gig.  We took a listen to Wonderboom with a cover of eVoids 'Shadows', two bands Danny was an integral part of.   Artists featured: Therapy?, Scorpions, UFO, Trivium, Black Label Society, Warrant, Tindrum, Smith/Kotzen, Five Finger Death Punch, Blue Oyster Cult, Sixx A.M., Machine Head, Motörhead, Rival Sons, Saxon, Wonderboom, Arapaho, Bad Company, Foreigner, Slade, Mott The Hoople, Dire Straits, Jimi Hendrix, Sheryl Crow, Halestorm, Arch Enemy, Upon A Burning Body, Megadeth, Volbeat, Stiff Little Fingers, Sex Pistols, The Stranglers, Fall Out Boy, The Distillers, Springbok Nude Girls, Mark Haze, Nibs Van Der Spuy, Valiant Swart, Johnathan Martin

Episode 3 of Season 5 aired at 19h00 on 20 Jan 2022 on Rebel Rock Radio.  We started with a nice little instrumental before diving into the strange waters of Legend of the Seagullmen and their song ' Rise of the Giant'.  Following that we went back to 1989 and took a track off Badlands, a fantastic album released in 1987 by the band of the same name.   That album was the first CD I ever bought, it is a seriously good album and belongs in every rock fans collection.  This episode contained a higher percentage of the lesser-known bands than normal, I think it worked out pretty well.  We took a heavy dose of what I would call Classic UK Punk; The Stranglers, Stiff Little Fingers, and Sex Pistols.  It is interesting to reflect on just how things have changed.  In the sanitised world of 2022these songs are even more incendiary than they were in 1977.  Or, am I just getting old?  The early stuff was covered by Uriah Heep and Jethro Tull, The newer stuff by Ayron Jones and Me and That Man.  The heavy came from Venom and Architects.  We raised the issue of Valiant Swart's fundraiser and efforts to raise some cash so that his wife Lanelle can get treatment for a seriously debilitating condition that will need some support to sort out.  TSORR wishes Valiant well in this effort and supports the initiative.   As usual, we ran out of time just as we really got going and Neil Young closed the show with a track called 'Canerican' of his new album Barn.   Artists featured:  Bewitcher, Legend of the Seagullmen, Badlands, Devil's Train, Buckcherry, Alter Bridge, Glenn Hughes, Rhino Bucket, Seether, Nirvana, Volbeat, Thin Lizzy, Uriah Heep, Jethro Tull, Architects, Motörhead, Skid Row, Guns ‘n' Roses, W.A.S.P. Coheed & Cambria, The Stranglers, Stiff Little Fingers, Sex Pistols, John Mellencamp, Kid Rock, Adrenaline Mob, Five Finger Death Punch, Pirates of Radio, Drowning pool, Ayron Jones. Great White, ACDC, Queensrÿche, Valiant Swart, Me & That Man, Kadavar, Venom, Warrant, Neal Young & Crazy Horse

Episode 46 aired live on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 18 November 2021.  It was a show that I used as therapy to move through a really bad day at work.  You know those days where everything just goes wrong?  Yeah, one of those.  There was a massive thunderstorm in JHB with roads underwater, accidents, cars on the side of the road, and load shedding on top of all of this.  It was a great opportunity to demonstrate the therapeutic power of rock.  We kicked off with ACDC and 'If You Want Blood (You Got It)', then went over to Germany for 'Wild, Wild Nights,' another track off the brand new Running Wild album called Blood on Blood.  A bit of ZZ Top followed and then some Triumph which I thought was a highlight of the show. It is easy to give Rush all the credit for great Canadian music and forget about Rik Emmett and the lads.  This track ' Fight The Good Fight' shows admirably how good Triumph and the Allied Forces album was.  We had plenty of heavy hitters; Rammstein, System of a Down, Five Finger Death Punch, and then some Boston and Foreigner to highlight why some people are stuck in the '70s.  Pearl Jam and Soundgarden took care of the grunge and Ramones and Blink 182 gave us our weekly dose of punk.  Then a strange thing happened and I played 'Mirror in the Bathroom' by The Beat which was a song I didn't like when it came out in 1980.  This is probably because it was the opposite of British Steel, Back In Black, Blizzard of Oz, Ace of Spades, Heaven and Hell, and Iron Maiden which were shaping my life at the time.  But it sounded good, I have mellowed.  From there we tipped the hat again to Tokyo and Sao Paulo who are leading the listenership rankings for TSORR podcasts.  Sepultura's 'Refuse / Resist' was awesome and I enjoyed Japan's Lovebites with a track called 'The Wrath of the Hammer'.  From there it was the downhill run, there was a 5-minute break in the transmission of the live show as the power came back and the wifi had to restart.  The joys of an ANC run South Africa are evident.  We took a listen to the guitar work of Anton Lamour on Valiant Swarts' track 'Droomrivier', this was a small tribute to Theuns Jordaan who passed away this week and was loved and respected by many. The new Mastodon is awesome, we listened to 'The Beast', the show ended in grand style with 'Strachan' by The Hitchers and then some input from the Gallagher brothers with both Noel Gallaghers High Flying Birds and then Oasis.  As usual, I totally ran out of time.   Artists featured:  ACDC, Running Wild, Backyard Babies, Black Stone Cherry, Triumph, ZZ Top, Black Country Communion, The Dead Daisies, System of A Down, Five Finger Death Punch, Boston, Foreigner, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Equator, Children of Bodom, Mother Love Bone, Jimmy Barnes, Rammstein, Texas Hippie Coalition, Blink 182, Ramones, The Beat, Sepultura, Lovebites, Valiant Swart, Jack Hammer, Metallica, Volbeat, Samantha Fish, Judas Priest, Tom Petty, Mastodon, The Hitchers, Noel Gallaghers High Flying Birds, Oasis, Nirvana

Episode 35 of Season 4 went out live at 7 pm on 2 September 2021.  The show featured a number of albums released in 2021 including one by a guy called Ayron Jones.  I am quite blown away by this album titled Child of the State.  He has a voice that reminds me of Prince in places, with shades of Terrence Trent D'Arby and Gary Clarke Jr.  He also plays a mean guitar, his track 'My Love Remains' should raise some goosebumps.  Mason Hill's album Against the Wall  is another new one I am enjoying. We took a listen to 'Broken Son'.    I am also going through a Samantha Fish phase so we heard from her and rounded out the blues with some Jonny Lang.  The heavy lifting was handled by Onslaught, Bullet For My Vallentine and, Sunken State.  The latest Rob Zombie was pretty cool and so was a track off Serj Tankian's latest EP called Elasticity, we took a listen to a track called 'Your Mom' which is proudly flying the System of a Down flag.  I had a little rant about the state of the government and the local municipality, as we have been without water for 24 hours, it felt appropriate to take a track off Give 'Em Enough Rope' by The Clash and 'Fire & Gasoline' by Steve Jones.  The music and lyrics punctuated a number of disparaging remarks about the state of things in general.  They were unplanned but heartfelt. The South African stuff came from Valiant Swart, The Burning, The Uninvited, and Sunken Stae as well as newcomers Imagine&Nation who have released an excellent EP titled  Never Be Quiet which could be a mantra for TSORR.     Artists featured:  Herman Frank, Monster Truck, Seasick Steve, Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, The Sweet, Mötley Crüe, Steelheart, Vain, Onslaught, Q5, Queensrÿche, Running Wild, Wolfmother, Grandfunk Railroad, Ayron Jones, Mick Jagger, Serj Tankian, Mason Hill, Samatha Fish, Jonny Lang, Imagine&Nation, Valiant Swart, The Burning, Bullet For My Vallentine, Massive Wagons, Mammoth WVH, Rose Tattoo, The Clash, Steve Jones, Accept, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motörhead, Windowpane, Mr Big, The Uninvited, Sunken State.

Episode 30 of Season 4 went out live on 29 July 2021 at 7 pm.  It was a tough show for me in many ways.  My father passed away on 24 July and it was the first show since his passing.  Inevitably his memory permeated the show although he wasn't a big music guy his influence on me was profound.  I tried to keep the show about life and death in general rather than getting too deep.  With so many loved ones passing in these troubled times my sense is that many people will be able to relate to certain tracks and get some comfort out of the music and its ability to both hurt and heal.  We kicked off with Metallica and 'For Whom the Bell Tolls'.  The first hour was pretty up-tempo with bands like Edguy, Krokus, W.A.SP., and Skid Row.  I paid tribute to Dusty Hill, bass guitarist for ZZ Top, who passed away last night age  72.  He apparently died in his sleep which is about as good as it gets I guess.  We took a listen to Tush as he does lead vocals on that classic track.  the mood changed a bit once we hit the Springsteen and took in Atlantic City off his masterpiece Nebraska.   Zakk Wylde, Neil Young, and Windowpane with 'The More I Run' kept the mood where it was.  The show moved along with typical TSORR fare, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, ACDC, Lynyrd Skynyrd all delivered the goods and in the last hour, I played a couple of tracks that I dedicated to Dad before taking us out with the only really heavy track of the show in the form of Machine Head's 'Davidian'.  Anyway, it is what it is, I hope you get something out of it, it was a difficult show for me and I let Lemmy have the last word with 'Till the End'.  Artists featured:  Metallica, Edguy, Skid Row, Krokus, W.A.S.P., ZZ Top, My Chemical Romance, Bruce Springsteen, Zakk Wylde, Neil Young, Live, Windowpane, Richie Kotzen, Scorpions, Foo Fighters, Scorpions, Foo Fighters, Billy Idol, The Four Horsemen, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blackstone Cherry, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Theory of a Deadman, Linkin Park, Jimmy Barnes, Brian Fallon, ACDC, Gotthard, Johnny Cash, Valiant Swart, Roan Ash, Mammoth WVH, Aerosmith, Oasis, Jack Hammer, Black Sabbath, Machine Head, Motörhead.

Episode 13 did prove to be unlucky but it all got sorted out.  The show was scheduled to T-off at 7 pm on 1 April 2021 but forces conspired against the gods of rock in a technological April Fools on me.  Due to a scheduled system update, a key part of the software wasn't there to let TSORR connect to Rebel Rock Radio.  I had to reboot everything and start again.  We got going at about 19h12 so the show has two endings, one to say cheers to actual live listenership and another to say cheers to you, awesome podcast people. The show itself was very upbeat and very much a party theme going on.  We started with Boston and their track 'Party'  off Don't Look Back, then we had ' Party Like Tomorrow is the End of The World'  probably the only clean Steel Panther track ever recorded.  It's a long weekend so personally, I was really looking forward to the fact that tomorrow was a holiday and it made the show a lot of fun.  It's mostly upbeat and pretty punky actually, The new stuff Smith /Kotzen, Ricky Warwick, and Mammoth WVH is all spectacular and especially the Smith Kotzen album is well worth your money, check them out.  There was a nice quiet bit with Roan Ash and a song about his father and fathers in general, many of us are fortunate enough to have or have had fathers like this, tune into the words, it's a very special song from an amazingly talented songwriter with a golden voice.  Artists featured:  Boston, Steel Panther, Bernie Tormè, ACDC, Van Halen, Foo Fighters, Dave Hause, Kid Rock, Rage Against the Machine, Ricky Warwick, Smith / Kotzen, The Damned, Stiff Little Fingers, Dead Kennedys, Guns 'n'  Roses, John Mellencamp, Danko Jones, The Pretty reckless, Amanda Palmer, Hatebreed, W.A.S.P., System of a Down, Rammstein, James Reyne, Jimmy Barnes, Mammoth WVH, Twisted Sister, Roan Ash, Valiant Swart, Halford, Scorpions, Fleetwood Mac, Gov't Mule, The Distillers, Iggy & the Stooges, Megadeth, Accept, Buckcherry, Marilyn Manson

Season 3 Episode 8 of The Story of Rock and Roll Radio Show aired at 7 pm on 8 October 2020.  It was a particularly special episode due to the sad death of Edward Van Halen on 6 October 2020.  Eddie was very special to me and to pretty much all my friends and acquaintances.  The show was dedicated to him but it wasn't as much to showcase his work as to point out why Eddie was so special.  So, in the spirit of that, we kicked off with the traditional Dr Who intro and went straight into Eruption.     As I said the idea was to celebrate Eddie and rock and roll and not to get fucking morbid so we had some Judas Priest and Accept and then hit the new tracks.  ACDC have a new release coming up and the first track ‘Shot in the Dark' was released yesterday at 12h00 so we played that and then the brand new Bruce Springsteen track called ‘Ghosts'.  There was so much good stuff it's hard to know where to start, we had lesser-known bands like Rhino Bucket, The Answer and The Horrible Crowes, we had South African music from The Fismits, The Black Cat Bones, Pilgrim South, Piet Botha & Valiant Swart.  We played a fair amount of blues with Kenny Wayne Shepherd, SA blues god Dan Patlansky and Stevie Ray Vaughan's version of Voodoo Chile. Punk was taken care of by The Professionals and Anti-Flag, Australia by Rose Tattoo, the heavy stuff by Sepultura.  Another notable mention is the Brendon O'Brien remix of Pearl Jam's classic album Ten.  It simply called Ten (Redux) and it's incredible, it just brings the guitars to life.  We'll be playing everything off it in the next few weeks.  We ended off pretty much-saying cheers to Eddie with ‘Little Dreamer' because that's what he did, he turned a world of young guitar urchins into little dreamers and because of him so many people really got stuck into this instrument.  The show closed with the sobering sounds of Avenged Sevenfold with ‘Seize the Day', Ozzy's ‘Under the Graveyard' and finally cheers to Ed the way he would have wanted it, he would have wanted us to ‘Dance The Night Away'. Artists featured:  Van Halen, Warrant, Piet Botha, Judas Priest, Accept, The Answer, Rhino Bucket, ACDC, Greta Van Fleet, The Michael Schenker Group, Dan Patlansky, Valiant Swart, Avenged Sevenfold, Faith No More, Q5, Seether, Pearl Jam, Peter Frampton, Anti-Flag, The Black Cat Bones, Alice In Chains, The Damned Things, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Y&T, Bruce Springsteen, The Horrible Crowes, Aerosmith, Guns ‘n' Roses, The Fismits, Ozzy Osbourne, The Professionals, Sepultura, Pilgrim South, Rose Tattoo & Therapy?

Episode 23 was a special episode in that I reflected back a bit on some of the songs that will always be an integral part of The Story of Rock and Roll.  The Show was dedicated to my daughter who just turned 21, without her there would probably be no TSORR.  The show went live at midnight on 14 June 2019, nothing was pre-planned, which was obvious right from the first 10 seconds.  This is how it went down.   The show should have kicked off with the mighty Judas Priest but we took a listen to John Paul Young's classic Yesterday's Hero first.  It included mega bands like Iron Maiden, Metallica, ZZ Top, Deep Purple and Rammstein, we checked out some punk in the form of The Professionals, The Sex Pistols and The Stranglers and as always we hit the SA music hard with Jack Hammer, Springbok Nude Girls and Valiant Swart.  The Metal was supplied by In Flames.  Other artists featured included The Temperance Movement, Shinedown, Tool, Tony Carey, Led Zeppelin, Billy Talent, The Uninvited, Trouble,  UFO, Tesla and Stone Sour.

Hierdie episode is met trots geborg deur The Academy of Sound Engineering.
