Have you ever received a wedding invitation and felt a ping of disappointment when you saw it was on a Wednesday? The excitement for your friend was real, but so was the mental load that followed. In this episode, we talk about weekday weddings from both the guest and engaged couple's side of the situation. While the cost savings of a weekday wedding can be significant (like 30-40% off the venue alone), they come with real trade-offs for your guests. Couples who are considering a weekday wedding need to go into their planning with all the info they can get their hands on. From attendance rates and format options to handling family pushback, this episode gives you everything you need to decide whether a weekday wedding is genuinely right for you. What if what you deserve is already here, just waiting for you to be ready? Could releasing the timeline be the medicine that finally lets you connect with it? In this episode, Jessica pulls back the curtain on a major manifestation that's been unfolding over 4 years. She shares the layers of healing, growth, and understanding she's moved through—and what she discovered was actually standing between her and what she was calling in. Jessica opens up about her own blocks and unhealed parts of her inner narrative, including the trap of obsessing over optimization and future-proofing. She explores how releasing control and stepping into embodied presence became the real work—and why trusting the present moment, rather than fixating on what's next, actually moved her toward her goals. If you're waiting on something big to manifest, this episode will help you trust your unique timeline, get out of your own way, and connect with what's meant to be yours. How do wedding vendors actually get booked at top venues? In this episode, a real venue owner breaks it down.If you've ever wondered how some wedding vendors seem to get recommended over and over again… while others struggle to get booked… this episode is going to open your eyes.Because today, you're getting direct access to how a real wedding venue thinks. Not theory. Not guesswork. Not “what people say works.”But what actually happens behind the scenes. In this episode, we sit down with John Jonczak, owner of The Barn at Heritage Farm in North Carolina, to discuss the ins and outs of running an event venue business. John shares insights from his experience, offering valuable perspectives for anyone interested in the event business. We also touch on how to start a wedding venue business and tips for event planning. The Barn at Heritage Farm, is a beautiful rustic barn wedding venue that hosts large and small weddings and stays consistently booked throughout the year. And here's why this matters:
Cheap wedding venue… or financial trap? In this bonus episode, we're breaking down one of the biggest budgeting decisions you'll make during wedding planning: choosing between a lower-priced blank space venue and a higher-priced all-inclusive option. At first glance, the DIY venue looks like the obvious win. Lower rental fee. More flexibility. Total creative control. It feels like the ultimate budget-savvy move. But here's where impulse can quietly take over. That "great deal" can spiral fast once you start layering in rentals, catering, staffing, power, restrooms, décor, insurance, and all the little logistical details no one warns you about. Meanwhile, the all-inclusive quote might make you choke on your coffee — but it may also include far more than you realize. In this episode, I walk you through six major cost categories you must have detailed pricing for before deciding if a blank space venue is truly the money-saving move… or if it could end up costing you more in the long run. Engaged couples everywhere, like literally all over the world, are grappling with the harsh reality of wedding planning amid the ongoing cost of living crisis, and it's causing some people to make the decision to elope or cut back and in some cases even postpone their wedding until a time when they feel, I don't know, more confident about their financial situation.According to the results of the 2026 EasyWedding Industry Report the average cost now for a venue, a wedding venue is $17,500AUD. For the UK, your venue costs vary very widely by type and location, season inclusions, things like that, but an average for 2026 hovers around 8,000- 11,00£, and that would include your basic catering and packages.According to The Knot and Zola and WeddingWire, the prices you are having to deal with, swing hugely from state to state. You've got New Jersey topping at over $27,000 USD with California at approximately $8-15k.The United States is both the least and most expensive country to book a wedding venue in.But the constant is that in Australia, the UK, the United States, the venue cost frequently takes up the lion's share of the whole budget, as in the largest percentage slice of whatever budget a couple is working with. And in my mind, that means that there are opportunities to make choices, compromises, and smart swaps.Stick around to find out what these four levers are that you can adjust on your wedding venue. To help you either redistribute your wedding budget, go on a dream honeymoon, or slash your costs to save for another day. MY NEWSLETTER - https://nikolas-newsletter-241a64.beehiiv.com/subscribeJoin me, Nik (https://x.com/CoFoundersNik), as I interview Alex Nelson (https://x.com/weddingvenueguy).I'm thrilled to welcome back Alex Nelson, the wedding venue guy! When we last spoke, he had just launched his incredibly successful Iowa wedding venue with zero experience. Now, Alex has expanded beyond the venue, buying five coffee shops and supporting his wife's baby boutique, leading me to call him a mogul. We dive deep into his journey since that first venture, starting with how he and his wife booked their own venue a year and a half out, inspiring the business idea. Alex shares the shocking reality of building a multi-million dollar venue from the ground up, dealing with massive budget overruns (the original $1.5 million budget ended up closer to $2.7 million!).He explains the intense stress of unexpected construction delays that forced them to refund deposits from booked weddings, a situation he said felt like the start of a Ponzi scheme. We also discuss the key advantages of using an SBA 7A loan for real estate projects, specifically the 25-year amortization period. Finally, Alex details his shift from the high-ticket, specific needs of the wedding venue business to acquiring and rebranding multiple coffee shop locations, and offers excellent advice for anyone looking to enter the wedding venue space, including essential ways to test demand.Questions This Episode Answers:1. What are the key advantages of using an SBA 7A loan when financing both real estate and a business?2. How do you accurately gauge market demand for a new standalone wedding venue?3. What happens when catastrophic construction delays impact a business that operates purely on pre-booked deposits?4. Is it easier to buy an existing business (like four coffee shops) or build one from scratch (like a wedding venue)?5. What is the most critical first step (and financial commitment) an aspiring wedding venue owner should take?Enjoy the conversation!__________________________Love it or hate it, I'd love your feedback. Please fill out this brief survey with your opinion or email me at nik@cofounders.com with your thoughts.__________________________MY NEWSLETTER: https://nikolas-newsletter-241a64.beehiiv.com/subscribeSpotify: https://tinyurl.com/5avyu98yApple: https://tinyurl.com/bdxbr284YouTube: https://tinyurl.com/nikonomicsYT__________________________This week we covered:00:00 – How he discovered the wedding-venue idea03:02 – Booking a venue before even being engaged05:26 – Saving money & early planning07:36 – COVID moment: deciding to build now10:01 – SBA loan plan + cost jump to $2.7M12:27 – Construction delays & real challenges17:19 – Taking deposits before the venue existed19:34 – Stress, refunds & near-disaster moments24:20 – Year 1–3 revenue growth29:04 – Buying & expanding multiple coffee shops36:16 – Scaling operations & improving systems41:02 – Future plans: more shops + another venue
