The series requires only 5 to 15 minutes of your time on weekdays, leaving weekends free to relax or catch up. NOW is the time for those of you feeling unfulfilled in your current roles, struggling with motivation, or dreaming of something different but feeling stuck. The email series is free when you subscribe to my weekly newsletter, "Be Curious." If you're already signed up, expect an email asking if you'd like to join. ---Now, let's move on to this week's tip for building your curiosity muscle and welcoming discomfort for growth.A favorite tool of mine for tracking progress is a jar where you can add a bead or a piece of paper whenever you accomplish something challenging. This week, I'm focusing on networking, a common pain point for my clients. If you hate networking, feel unsure of what to say, or think it's a waste of time, you're not alone. Here are three steps to make networking events more enjoyable:Identify the Benefits: Reflect on how the event could benefit you and envision the kind of people you'd like to meet and interact with. What would they say to you? What kind of profiles would they have?Visualize yourself: Imagine yourself showing up in the way you want others to show up. Think of one valuable thing you can talk about in advance to shift your focus from what you can gain to what you can offer.Set a Challenge: Create a small, manageable goal for the event, like talking to three new people or getting a new contact's information. This challenge should push you out of your comfort zone to promote growth and learning. The purpose of these steps isn't just to make you uncomfortable but to help you learn and gain a new perspective on your capabilities. View it like a game, where completing the challenge unlocks the next level of self-discovery.As always, thank you for joining me today. Send us a Text Message. On this last day of the month of May, there's a saying I love and wanted to share with you, even if just for a couple of hours.  You can take it into June as I'm going to talk more about our image, including how we feel in our bodies and how it affects us and our success, however we might define it.Here's the saying for the beautiful month of May:“En may, fait ce qu'il te plait “- which translates as “in May, do as you please”Originally talking about the weather and one shall dress for it, it is interesting to me how the idea of pleasure can change our perspective on things. So lets' dive into this topic that's crucial for sustaining our motivation and interest in our professional lives:  how do we define and find pleasure in our work? What is Pleasure in Work?Pleasure: "a feeling of happy satisfaction and enjoyment."But pleasure isn't just about fleeting moments of happiness or satisfaction. It's deeper. It's that feeling of being truly engaged, where time flies by and you're deeply immersed in what you're doing, also described as a state of flow by some. It's about finding joy and fulfillment in the tasks and challenges that make up your workday. For some of my clients, especially nonprofit leaders, pleasure might come from seeing the tangible impact of their efforts on the community. For others, who are considering a career transition, it might be about discovering new passions and aligning work with personal values to see the impact of what they're doing everyday. Why Pleasure Matters?- it sustains motivation: When you find pleasure in your work, it's easier to stay motivated, even during tough times. This intrinsic motivation is powerful and can keep you going when external rewards aren't enough.- it reduces burnout: Pleasure acts as a buffer against it. When you're engaged in tasks that are enjoyable to you, you're less likely to feel exhausted and disillusioned by your work.- it increases creativity and productivity: You're more likely to think outside the box and come up with innovative solutions when you are having fun.- it contributes to your overall  Well-Being: finding pleasure in your work contributes to overall well-being. It enhances your mental health and makes work feel less like a chore and more like an integral part of your life's journey. How to Find Pleasure in Work?- I like to always start by an assessment and in this case, I ‘d recommend you Identify Your Core Values. Understanding what truly matters to you is the first step. This might be social impact and community support or it could be creativity and personal growth. Episode 019 - the Power of a Smile

Play Episode Listen Later May 4, 2024 10:30

Send us a Text Message. In today's episode, I want to talk about my first favorite mom tip. When I was about 10 years old, my mom bought me a printed poem in the south of France. The poem was called “the gift of a smile”.As it was hanging in my bathroom, I remember seeing it several times a day, getting ready for school in the morning, brushing my teeth at night. And I can still remember most of it to this day because of that repetition. The first 2 lines read as follows:“Il ne coûte rien et produit beaucoup.”“It doesn't cost a thing and produces a lot.”Then it goes on to show all the benefits for the one smiling and for the one(s) receiving it demonstrating it's clearly a win-win! (Link to the full poem (in French) if you're curious)So today I'm grateful, even though I didn't always say or felt so, to my mom to have anchored this message in my head. Why Smiling Matters and How to Smile More It goes deeper than a smile. I think it matters how you show up in the world. Even with our personal likes and dislikes when it comes to style , we can all agree that our choices are a chance to be on our side.I try and remember the power of a smile and challenge myself to smile more, especially when I feel too stressed, driving the kids to and from school, running not to be late to a meeting, or just because some days I don't want to do what I have planned so carefully. You can think of a Mona Lisa smile, or the Budha's if it helps. (I like those because they feel calm and full of serenity)Just like coaching, smiling intentionally, even when you don't feel like it, will help you shift your perspective and reconsider what's happening, what's in your control and what you would like the outcome to be.By the way, Sunday's international laughter day and that should be celebrated too! https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/world-laughter-day/Because May is mental health awareness month, I thought you may like to hear all the benefits of laughter:It can help with:Your overall stress and cortisol levels because it helps relieve the pressure Your abs because of your belly muscles contracting when you're laughingIt can make you feel more connected to the people around you that you're sharing this hilarious moment withIt can help you feel more relaxed because of the endorphins that it is producingIt can also boost your immunity by producing some t-cellsIt also helps your heart because, believe it or not, laughing is some kind of cardio exercise. Some ideas to celebrate this WE:Ask google or Alexa or Siri to tell you a jokeCreate a notebook / jar filled with jokes on little papers notes inside to read at dinner tableWatch your favorite comedyGo to a comedy clubDid you know there are even laughter clubs? Thanks for listening today! It can reveal underlying beliefs and attitudes towards your financial confidence and freedom. It matters that you are intentional and aware of your borrowing habits and financial goals. It is also important to evaluate the cost and return of borrowing money. In conclusion, I invite you to assess your current debt situation,  comfort level with it, and plans for managing or reducing it. The more intentional and conscious about financial decisions,  the faster you can achieve financial freedom.Next month, I'll share some life and career's advice from all the mothers in my life, not just mine, but maybe yours too? Thanks for listening today! Welcome to another episode of "Without Judgment"! In honor of Financial Literacy Month, here is another episode on our money mindset. Have you ever stopped to consider what beliefs shape your relationship with money—both in acquiring it and having it? Today, we're lifting the veil on those (possibly limiting) beliefs and exploring how they impact your financial well-being.When it comes to making money, our thoughts can range from contentment to perpetual dissatisfaction, regardless of our income level. But here's the kicker: it's not about the numbers; it's about our perception. Do you believe you're fully accountable for your earnings? How has your income evolved over the years, and what sacrifices have you made to achieve it?Next up, let's talk about having money. Do you associate wealth with negativity? Your upbringing and personal experiences heavily influence your answer. Whether you're content with a modest lifestyle or yearn for more, your mindset dictates your financial trajectory. Are you open to abundance, or are you gripped by scarcity? To help navigate these reflections, I am inviting you to use this coaching tip: journal about the questions that resonate most with you. Start small, focusing on one to three inquiries to avoid overwhelm. And before we part ways, ponder this: how much money do you truly believe you're capable of making in a year? In this episode, I'm sharing some tips and ideas around setting an evaluating your goals. Reflecting on the First Quarter of 2024First, I want to invite you to reflect on your accomplishments over the past three months.Think about:your top 3 accomplishments: What are you proud of achieving?the projects you've completed: Have you finished any major projects or tasks?your new habits: Have they successfully adopted any new habits?unfinished business: Identify 3 things that were planned but not completed. What possible reasons could be behind any delays or shifts in priorities? Setting Goals for the Next QuarterStart by identifying ONE main priority or top goal. Think about how you want to create a plan of action:How to track progress effectively.Understanding the variables involved.Allocating time realistically.Address potential obstacles:make a list of all the things you can imagine get in your wayget creative and plan ahead of time for strategies to overcome these challengesremember the reason why you chose this goal Evaluation is key Without taking inventory of time, effort, and energy levels, you won't be able to assess or tweak what's working and what's not.Evaluate accomplishments and challenges.Decide what to keep, revisit, or discard. Those coaching tips can help you achieve any goal by starting with your thoughts. How you plan and think about what you want, why you want it and all that is in your control when obstacles show up. Just like a professional athlete preparing for a race, see yourself at the finish line. Imagine what it'll look like.and have fun with it!Without judgmentVirginieThanks for listening today! Episode 013 - Should you stay or should you go? Part 3 - Evaluating Your Values When Considering a Career Change

Play Episode Play 19 sec Highlight Listen Later Mar 16, 2024 11:44

Hello, hello! In today's episode, I want to  discuss how to use your values to create a career that aligns with who you are.I want to show you that leveraging your core values can lead you to being happier at work.We may not think about what our values are when thinking of our professional life but they can help us gain clarity and confidence.Let's start by understanding what values are and why they matter. Our values are the deeply held beliefs and principles that guide our actions. They reflect what's most important to us and shape our perceptions of success, fulfillment, and purpose. When our career aligns with our values, we experience a sense of meaning and satisfaction that transcends mere job satisfaction. So, how do our values influence our career choices? When you are not aware of your values, one of two things usually happens:a- you're  perfectly aligned and embody your values because they are second nature to you.b- you don't realize there's a disconnect bc you're not used to listening to your red flag signals. For example, let's say you work in communication and value creativity, autonomy, and social impact. However, in your current role , you have little opportunity for creative expression, limited autonomy, and lack a clear sense of purpose. As a result, you might feel disengaged and unfulfilled. To help my clients gain clarity around what they want I like to do a values assessment. (You can grab a list of values on the web or go to this episode and download mine here)Once you've identified your core values, you'll have a clearer guide to what you seek in your professional endeavors, when looking at responsibilities and job descriptions for example. With this, you can also start evaluating your current career situation and start identifying areas of misalignment. From then, you can explore a variety of career paths that better reflect your values and aspirations. Think of exploring new job opportunities, pursuing additional education or training, or even starting a business.Remember that it all starts with the thoughts you're having. Whether you like them or not, pay attention to what's going on in your brain.Do you keep repeating yourself you're stuck or unsatisfied? Evaluate why you're thinking that? And be curious to figure out other ways to think about how someone else might look at your situation. Finally, I invite your to do a little evaluation of your day (or week) and see how your values are reflected (or not) in the actions you've taken. If not, what others might you see you're following without paying attention. And decide what values you want to be yours.Wishing you a beautiful weekend!Without judgment,VirginieThanks for listening today! In this episode, I'm going to bring you some ideas about how to nurture your professional relationships and I'm going to tell you why it can help you be more fulfilled at work. This is especially relevant for those of you listening who are thinking about a career change.1: Understanding the Importance of Professional RelationshipsA lot of coaches and neuroscientists have researched this topic around people's mood, success and even depression levels. The way we think about any situation will impact our results. Why do you think networking is such an important step for people looking for a job? Because, interacting with others will leave an impression that is much more impactful than words on paper. And then it continues when you are working.  We work with people and for people, whether you think about your clients, your team, your colleagues   or your manager. The better you are at having good relationships, the better you're going to feel.If you imagine having a good relationship, it usually means that:There is clear expectationsThere is good and effective communicationAl parties are respectful of each otheretc.Positive relationships can lead to more job satisfaction, productivity, and career growth. When you think of someone you've loved to work with, compared to someone you've hated working with, what's the difference?Mostly their attitude, and yours. So I want to invite you to jot down your thoughts about what defines the way YOU want to show up, because you'll never be in control of how the person in front of you will act. --> Focus on you.2: Building Strong Professional RelationshipsNow I'd like to share some practical tips for developing and nurturing professional relationships:  Networking strategies (on and offline)Attend events to meet professionals in your field or interestJoin organizations or online communitiesUse social media platforms like LinkedIn to connect with others and engage in meaningful conversationsOffer to help others in your network by sharing resources, providing advice, or making introductions  - Effective communication skillsPractice clear and concise communication.Use active listening techniques to understand others' perspectives.Ask open-ended questions to encourage conversation.Be mindful of your body language and tone of voice.Use positive language and avoid negative or confrontational language.Be an active listener  - Find common groundLook for shared interests, experiences, or goals.Share personal stories or experiences that relate to the topic of conversation.Find common challenges or opportunities in your respective fields.Collaborate on projects or initiatives that align with your shared interests.also reflect on how to overcome Challenges like:  - Conflicts and disagreements  - Miscommunication  - Lack of trustHow do you want to show up in these situations? Thanks for listening today!
