Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso from the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse.Wild Saturday night at the Benz, one of the strangest matches I've ever called, as Atlanta United came back to defeat NYCFC 4-3. Mistakes were one of the highlights in this one, but perhaps Atlanta getting the win after one of their worst performances gives them a spark going forward. After mistakes put them behind and maybe the pressure of a poor result unfolding again at home led to them looking tranquilized in a way, the substitutions of Xande Silva and Matt Edwards breathed new life into the team. Hard work over the last half hour of the match brought Atlanta from 3-1 down to 4-3 up. Alexey Miranchuk got a goal earlier and was outstanding wherever he played, Silva/Edwards created the tying goal for Almirón, and Latte Lath's relentless running on a night where he didn't have his best first touch was enough to force Matt Freese and Thiago Martins into a screaming blaming fit as the go-ahead goal sailed in. Lots of conversation this week on SDH AM (every morning starting at 9:05 on YouTube & Twitch) and on Atlanta Soccer Tonight on 92.9 The Game (back to Tuesday nights this week).Miami took control of the East with a 2-1 win over Philadelphia, Sporting Kansas City remains winless in 2025 after a loss to Dallas, and San Diego's win over LAFC highlighted the weekend around MLS. LAFC could be playing Club América in a winner-take-all match for a spot in the FIFA Club World Cup and a $9.55 million check. It would be the most lucrative potential match for a MLS team ever, this is pending an appeal by León on FIFA taking them out of the tournament due to multi-ownership rules and regulations.Marco Rose was sacked at RB Leipzig, Dorival Junior was sacked in Brazil as the national team manager. Plenty more nuggets in the podcast! Thanks for reading, watching, and listening to our content from the SDH Network, plenty more to come this week across all fronts.More Espresso coming tomorrow on the SDH Network, presented by Oglethorpe University.

Herc had a candid conversation with Miguel Almiron, a Paraguayan superstar who was Atlanta's MLS Champion in 2018, made a name for himself in the Premier League, and has returned to Atlanta United this season. 'Miggy' shared his experiences while away from the team and insights into how Major League Soccer is perceived internationally. He also discussed Atlanta United's new project ahead of the MLS kickoff this weekend, outlining their aspirations, hopes, and realistic possibilities for the upcoming season.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso from the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse. Good preseason win for Atlanta United on Saturday afternoon in Bradenton against New England. Miguel Almirón started and played into the second half for the Five Stripes. Ronny Deila spoke afterwards about Almirón's positioning and wants him to have the freedom on the offensive side but discipline defensively. I think we saw that, overall the defensive side of the team looked good in the win and the offensive chemistry will come with time. Latte Lath could join training this week, Brooks Lennon is back in training already and might ahead of schedule, and Stian Gregersen should be available to play in Wednesday's Bradenton finale against Cincinnati. Cupsets in Britain as Liverpool's race to the quadruple was dashed by Plymouth Argyle, who are on the bottom of the Championship. Their manager went home to celebrate with nachos and Fanta... yes that's what he said. Queen's Park in Scotland went one better, upsetting Rangers after saving a 95th minute penalty and earning a win over the Scottish giant for the first time since 1882. Atleti were given a dubious penalty in their 1-1 draw with Real Madrid on Saturday. While you might be able to justify the call, it's the kind of call that we shouldn't want to see in games. Barcelona won on the weekend, so La Liga has 3 teams separated by 2 points at the top. Christian Pulisic is tied for the Serie A lead in assists after 2 in Milan's 2-0 win over Empoli. River Plate ended Independiente's unbeaten start to the season in Argentina, while the Uruguayan Clásico finished 1-1 between Peñarol and Nacional. Clubs are still adding players in MLS with the window open into April. On the silly season front, it looks like Eduard Atuesta's move to Orlando is back on. Benjamin Rollheiser is reportedly headed to Botafogo in Brazil as opposed to MLS, but a Botafogo striker could be headed to the LA Galaxy on loan. More Espresso on Monday on the SDH Network, presented by Oglethorpe University.
A record setting week for Atlanta United in the transfer market as Miguel Almirón and Latte Lath are introduced as the latest to join the Five Stripes. Jason Longshore discusses it and what to expect in 2025 from ATLUTD from AST on Feb. 4.
