The dish is bound in a starch-thickened sauce. Typically, rice accompanies the flavorful dish, too.

Connecting veganism to other justice causes is critical to our success and our guest today recognized this at a very young age. Zane McNeill is a scholar-activist, chair of the National Lawyers Guild's Animal Liberation Committee, and was the co-manager of the collective Right for Animal Rights Activists. They have worked closely with the Institute of Critical Animal Studies (ICAS) and have published chapters in ICAS collections, including Vegans on Speciesism and Ableism: Ecoability Voices for Disability and Animal Justice and Expanding the Critical Animal Studies Imagination: Essays on Solidarity and Total Liberation. They have also edited Queer and Trans Voices: Achieving Liberation Through Consistent Anti-Oppression, Vegan Entanglements: Dismantling Racial and Carceral Capitalism, and Building Multispecies Resistance Against Exploitation: Stories from the Frontlines of Labor and Animal Rights (forthcoming, Peter Lang Publishing).Zane will help us to unpack new terms like “consistent anti-oppression” and “total liberation” as well as “carceral veganism” where animal activists align with agencies to criminalize and deport people in marginalized communities of color when we should be targeting the system of oppression itself. They discuss the parallels of body autonomy issues for humans and non-humans. Zane addresses everything from micro aggressions experienced by animal activists within the movement to larger, structural issues of oppression. In Mexico City, animal rights activists are protesting against the return of bullfighting, years after it was outlawed. The Mexican Supreme Court repealed its decision last month, citing a lack of sufficient reasoning to ban the events. Mexican correspondent Alisdair Baverstock says locals would rather leave the sport to Spain's colonial history, but some businesses do still rely on the cultural practice. Baverstock spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.

On this episode, NCBA CEO Colin Woodall joins to discuss the animal rights activist groups that are attacking the Beef Checkoff through the deceptively titled “Opportunities for Fairness in Farming” or OFF Act. Despite false claims from proponents of the OFF Act, the Beef Checkoff is strongly supported by cattle producers, is producer-led, and receives robust oversight from the Cattlemen's Beef Board and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Woodall also explains how the checkoff supports producers' livelihoods and strengthens the cattle industry as a whole.

I don't take photos of my food…often. Still, I'd like to consider myself a foodie, at least in the most basic sense. And over the course of this pandemic, I've even picked up cooking AND every meal I've made has been survivable! My wife and I have become more conscious of food choices over what I'll say is the past decade. But even then, I'm still learning about the effects of my diet – not only on my own health, but the health of our society and our planet. As the head of the national dairy check-off, Gallagher explains to Joel Hastings of DairyBusiness that the industry has not done a good job of sharing a vision for smaller farms... and it needs to. Tom Gallagher, the CEO of Dairy Management, Inc. says the diversity in size and geography in the U.S. dairy industry is one of its great strengths. In this edition of DairyVoice, Gallagher talks about plant-based beverages, which he does not see as a huge concern, and lab-created dairy proteins - a real cloud on the horizon for the dairy industry. But with his "2030 Plan", he wants to leap-frog dairy into the future with consumers and their food choices.Gallagher begins the segment explaining new tactics being undertaken by animal rights activist groups toward the dairy industry, which he sees as especially worrisome.
I see the age of fury shows no sign of abating. The latest casualty, Justin Bieber's cats.Justin Bieber finds himself in a cat fight with PETA over his newly purchased kittens. You may have seen these headlines. He’s bought two part - exotic kittens, which he named Sushi and Tuna. They’re Savannah breed cats, they cost a bomb, US$35,000 for the pair. But guess what? That’s his prerogative. If he wants to buy cats, that's his business, not ours.PETA, however, is furious. Furious because he’s purchased expensive cats, rather than adopted rescue ones.PETA say he’s contributing to an animal over population crisis and fuelling a demand for hybrid cats. It says he should be leading by example and encouraging people to adopt rescue pets from shelters only.Bieber responded by saying “PETA can suck it”. He told them to go focus on real problems like poaching and animal brutality and stop picking on celebrities and looking for attention that way.He defended his right to choose whatever kind of pet he wanted, he suggested PETA spend more time helping with all the plastic in the ocean rather than targeting his cats. And people agreed with him. In their droves, saying PETA is all talk and only worries about famous people instead of all the dogs and horses butchered in some countries. Some accused PETA of stirring controversy over two cats when a greater way to use their platform was positively instead of playing a blame game against one person. Some called them petty. And I agree. It's pathetic of PETA.There seems to be a movement going on at the moment of shaming people into action.Pointing the finger and going ooooh look at that, that’s bad and thinking that will somehow change people’s minds.Isn’t change best brought about positively and by focusing on large scale things that really matter? Not one person’s cat purchase. How is that productive? It reminds me of the protesting vegans.Shouting at people and making them feel bad about eating meat, or attempting to block them from eating meat won’t work. Has it ever worked? And yet it still seems all they’ve got.Blame and shame is a tired old mechanism which I believe doesn’t work.I wish the likes of PETA and the vegans blocking the meat section at the supermarkets, would just stop and think about what else it is they could be doing for animals, that would be more productive, than that.

California voters passed Proposition 12, requiring all eggs sold or grown in California to be from cage free hens by 2022. The law also dictates space requirements for veal and pork grown or sold in California. Humane Society of the United States was the major pusher of this legislation. Interestingly, HSUS's cohort and occasional rival in animal rights wackiness — PETA— disapproves of the measure, stating it doesn't go far enough! In this episode I tell you what this legislation means for the business of agriculture ("cage free" is the way of the future). Why we must stop using price as our argument against regulation (consumers don't care). And how Ag can fight better and take a lesson from Boy Scouts of America (there's no appeasing whackos, so stop trying!).
I have fallen down the rabbit hole into Pandora’s box on this one guys! This is a matter of convenience over conscious when it come to businesses who support organizations. So let’s talk it out.
