We've come to the end of our epic 20-episode series featuring Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, but we have time for one final ride on a runaway train as we hop aboard the best version of this attraction in Disneyland Paris. As promised, Kirk packs us some miner's lunches before we talk about a mistake Tony Baxter fixed, some lost Audio Animatronic miners, a piece of mining equipment that surprises us by being in all four versions, and a possum's anatomically impossible actions. We also hear a bizarre poem about beans, speculate on the meaning of some mining tools, and explain some foreshadowing elements that many overlook. We end this series looking back on some of our favorite moments and takeaways and feel a little sad to watch the train pull into the station after such a wild ride in the wilderness. There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the guide map describes the ride saying, “Fly with Peter Pan aboard a magical ship.” The thrill level describes Peter Pan's Flight as a slow ride with small drops. Before we visit Never Land, here are five fast facts about Peter Pan's Flight at Magic Kingdom. 1. Peter Pan's Flight opened at Magic Kingdom on October 3, 1971, two days after the park opened. 2. When Peter Pan's Flight opened at Magic Kingdom it followed a similar design as Peter Pan's Flight at Disneyland in California, even reusing some of the same sounds from that attraction. The Magic Kingdom version featured added scenes and used Audio-Animatronic figures. (As a note: we rode and reviewed Peter Pan's Flight at Disneyland in episode 85 of Attraction Checklist. 3. Captain Hook's pirate ship in this attraction is a whopping 48 feet long. 4. In 2014, the ride's queue area was upgraded to make is seem you are walking through the Darling's Nursery. The queue now features interactive elements and appearances by Tinker Bell. 5. As you fly through the Nursery at the beginning of the ride, keep an eye out for a pile of children's block that spell out: Disney. Let's ride Peter Pan's Flight! People associate The Enchanted Tiki Room with Dole Pineapples because they are the shows current sponsors and because of the Dole Whip soft serve sold near the entrance. Dole only became the sponsor in 1976. The shows original sponsor was United Airlines. 3. The Tiki Room features over 225 Audio Animatronic performers including birds, flowers and wooden tikis. 4. In order to keep the computers that run the show cool, The Enchanted Tiki Room building was Disneyland's first fully air-conditioned building. 5. “One Nation Under God”. That was the original idea for what would become Walt Disney World's Hall of Presidents. The original concept would have been an addition to Disneyland's Main Street USA. Library Street would have featured Edison Square and The Hall of Presidents, as seen on 1958 Disneyland park maps. The original concept was wax figures of all the US Presidents, which lead to the idea of animating the models. Those thoughts and beliefs lead to the first Audio-Animatronic figure in human form: Abraham Lincoln. That figure was the most advanced ever produced and featured in the Illinois Pavilion at the 1964 world's fair. The attraction relocated to Disneyland as Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, and guests can still experience an updated version of that original. With Walt Disney World's construction in 1971, technology had advanced enough to complete Walt's Original vision of the “Hall of Presidents.” The plans from Disneylands Liberty Street and Edison Square were revised and reworked to become The Magic Kingdoms Liberty Square. The original Hall of presidents featured all US Presidents through Richard Nixon, the sitting President when Walt Disney World Opened in 1971. A brief history of Walt Disney's Hall of Presidents The show remained unchanged, focused on the early history of the United States for 22 years. In 1993 the show was completely updated and focused on more current issues. In addition, Bill Clinton, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, and George Bush were addicted to the Presidential lineup, bringing us up to date. Since then, the Hall of Presidents has been updated for each new administration. In 2001 George W Bush was added, and in 2009 Barack Obama lent his voice to the attraction recording a short speech and reciting the Oath of office of the Presiden to the United States. The 2009 version also included an extensive update to the lighting and projection systems, the original Abraham Lincoln speech was restored, and George Washington became the third speaking President. In 2017 Donald Trump was added, reciting the Oath of Office and a short speech. This edition of SamsDisneyDiary features the 2017-2021 version of the attraction. Presented for Historical reference, if history serves correctly, the Hall of presidents should see a scheduled refurbishment sometime in late January 2021 and reopen in time for the 4th of July 2021 with a new President. But, the Covid-19 Pandemic has us living in uncertain times; either way, look for The Hall of Presidents to be on the refurbishment list at Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom soon. In honor of President’s Day, take an adventure into the Hall of Presidents! The Hall of Presidents is an attraction located in Liberty Square at the Magic Kingdom in the Walt Disney World Resort. The attraction is a multi-media presentation and stage show featuring Audio-Animatronic figures of all 43 individual U.S. Presidents. It opened on October 1, 1971, along with the rest of the Magic Kingdom and Walt Disney World. It is housed in a building that resembles Philadelphia's Independence Hall. Walt Disney had originally wanted an attraction similar to the "Hall of Presidents" called One Nation Under God at Disneyland Park at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, USA. After Disneyland had become a huge success, Disney proposed an extension of Main Street, U.S.A. called Liberty Street at Edison Square. Disney originally wanted wax figures of all the U.S. Presidents, and later decided to try to make them animated figures, but the technology that he wanted for this attraction did not exist or fully meet his desire. Disney decided to collaborate with his fellow Imagineers of WED Enterprises to try to make the first Audio-Animatronic figure in a human form. It would be one of Disney's heroes: Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States. The show begins with a film presentation of the history of the United States of America. It shows that the American way was forged through conflict and many long years of struggle. The main idea of the film is that the United States is not free from improvements. It is certain changes that prove necessary over the years. The film also celebrates the liberties of the American people, the United States Constitution, and the progress of America in its early years. With the help of paintings from the era, the Philadelphia Convention is reenacted.The film then segues to the time of Abraham Lincoln, when secession was a real threat. These paintings and vocal performances are similar, if not identical, to the same segment in the "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln" presentation. The American Civil War portion of the presentation is based on the "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln" presentation, including a nearly identical script, although, to fit the much bigger screen of the theater, rather than the much smaller one at Disneyland, new paintings were required to fill the screen. The Constitution survived the conflict, making America a truly unified nation.A huge era of progress occurred after the war. All the while, the Constitution remained the tent pole of the country. The film then turns toward the future, saying that the leaders of tomorrow have to be committed to the Constitution and its principles, if the country is to survive. A Saturn V rocket takes off, and the screens then lift up, and the U.S. Presidents take center stage. After the curtain lifts, all (then) 36 presidents are called, in chronological order. (At the time the attraction opened in 1971, the roll call ended with Richard M. Nixon. Over time, each newly elected President would have an Audio-Animatronic version of himself added to the show in their likeness.)Each one responds to their name with a nod, wave, or other sign of acknowledgment. During the presentation, the Presidents fidget, talk to each other, and look around; all the while making the illusion seem quite real. Abraham Lincoln then stands and takes center stage. His speech is remarkably similar to the speech he gave in "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln". After his speech, the show concludes with a rendition of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," (the same rendition used in "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln"). However, in 2009, the Battle Hymn of the Republic was replaced with America the Beautiful, but it reverted to "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" in 2011.

This attraction opened on June 23, 1963 and was the first to feature Audio-Animatronics. The attraction's first commercial sponsor was United Airlines but sponsorship soon passed over to Hawaii's Dole Food Company who remains the sponsor to the present day. Dole also provides the unique Dole Whip soft-serve frozen dessert sold at a snack bar near the entrance.The presentation features a "cast" of over 150 talking, singing and dancing birds, flowers, the aforementioned magic fountain, tiki drummers and tiki totem poles that perform the attraction's signature tunes, The Tiki Tiki Tiki Room by the Sherman Brothers and Let's All Sing Like the Birdies Sing. The finale has every Audio-Animatronic figure performing a rousing version of Hawaiian War Chant. The choice of exit music is somewhat unusual, namely an arrangement of Heigh Ho from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs with lyrics thanking guests for watching the show and which hurry them along on their way to the exit.
