Grande signed with Republic Records in 2011 after label executives viewed YouTube videos of her covering songs. Her 1950s doo-wop-influenced pop and R&B debut album, Yours Truly (2013), topped the US Billboard 200, while its lead single, "The Way", reached the top ten of the US Billboard Hot 100. Grande's voice and whistle register on the album drew immediate comparisons to Mariah Carey. She continued to explore pop and R&B in her second and third studio albums, My Everything (2014) and Dangerous Woman (2016). My Everything experimented with EDM and achieved global success with its singles "Problem", "Break Free" and "Bang Bang"; Dangerous Woman became her first of four consecutive number-one albums in the UK. It's not every-day that a musician creates a hit single so popular that it racks up over a billion views – and it's even rarer when that artist then drops off of the face of the planet – but somehow, that's exactly what happened to the man behind “Somebody That I Used To Know”, the enigmatic singer/songwriter known as Gotye. That single was a pop-culture staple of the early 2010's and took home a whole slew of awards including three Grammys for Record of the Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, and Best Alternative Music Album. And yet – soon after returning home from a World Tour, Gotye decided to move on from his world-famous persona to concentrate on a side-project, his alt-rock band The Basics. He's also worked hard to ensure that a pioneer of the electronic music genre will never be forgotten by preserving the musical legacy of his friend and mentor, Jean-Jacques Perrey. So, no, Gotye isn't passed away -- though you can bet that rumor sure made the rounds – instead, after achieving the very heights of success, he's decided to pursue his true passions even if that means shrinking away from the mainstream spotlight.

It looks like NBC is saying — in the nicest possible way — “Thank U, Next” to coach Nick Jonas. Ariana Grande has been named the next coach for Season 21 of “The Voice.” NBC announced the news on Tuesday, noting that Grande will have a seat next to returning coaches Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Blake Shelton. Carson Daly is also set to continue hosting the music competition series. The 27-year-old Grammy winner said in a statement Tuesday that she's “so honored and excited” to join the “Voice” family. “I have been a huge fan of the show for such a long time. I can't wait to go head-to-head with the incredible coaches, get to know these new artists and help to take their craft to the next level,” the “Positions” singer said. The network is just as elated to welcome Grande a seat. “As an undeniable force in pop music, Ariana's inimitable success in the music industry is extraordinary,” said Jenny Groom, executive vice president of unscripted content for NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “We were thrilled to learn that she is a true fan of ‘The Voice' and know that this enthusiasm will add to her impact as a dynamic coach. Ariana is a visionary with over a decade of experience in the music industry. Her unmatched vocal skills, creativity and unique expertise on all facets of the industry will make her an invaluable coach to the next generation of artists.” Legend also gave Grande a big welcome, writing on Twitter, “So excited to welcome Ariana to our Voice family!!” Although the announcement did not touch on Jonas' exit, his name was not included on the roster for the upcoming season. Season 20 marks the 10-year anniversary of the competition show. The current season's battle rounds will continue to air next Monday, April 5. From Publisher: Fox News Oh, hey and did you hear, Ariana Grande Just Bought a $9 Million Home In Hollywood Hills. Gee. I wonder if it comes with a pool. With the real estate background of the pop singer's fiancé, Dalton Gomez, it is safe to assume that this .74-acre plot of land was a good investment—we'll be staying tuned to see if she renovates it into her dream home. If she wants it. Well, I'm just saying she can charm her way to seven diamond rings. Those who were excited about Ariana Grande's first big red carpet fashion moment of 2021 will have to wait a little longer. The singer opted not to attend the 2021 Grammys in Los Angeles despite winning her category. Grande was only up for one award: Best Pop Duo/Group Performance with Lady Gaga for “Rain on Me.” She and Lady Gaga were announced as the winners of that category (beating out BTS in an upset) ahead of the ceremony. Grande tweeted to Lady Gaga to celebrate their victory: “eternally, deeply grateful for u, for this experience, to have been a part of this song and this celebration of healing and recovery, to be able to dance in the rain with u, to call u my dear friend & to now share this. beyond thankful. congratulations queen, ti voglio bene !” Grande was not slated to perform at the ceremony this year, and her album positions , which came out in October 2020, wasn't eligible to be nominated. The Grammys nomination period ran from September 1, 2019, to August 31, 2020. Positions will be eligible for awards at the 2022 ceremony. UPDATE : Grande posted the tracklist for her forthcoming album, which is indeed called “Positions,” over the weekend. The only major change from the original post below is that her duet with The Weeknd is now called “Off the Table.”

It's been a few days since the 63rd annual Grammy Awards and we (along with every other ARMY) were utterly disappointed when BTS did not win the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, which was then followed by the Grammys using BTS to shamelessly milk views from ARMYs by putting BTS as the second to last performance, making both us and BTS wait for hours just to see them on TV. Along with other aggravating issues, we thought it would be best to use this episode to rant about all the things that went wrong starting from their nomination back in November leading all the way up to their performance on March 14th. This episode was mainly just for our satisfaction, but we hope you can empathize with our feelings as the fandom regroups and figures out where to go from here.

This week on "State of Wonder," we remember the life and legacy of the ground-breaking writer Ursula K. Le Guin, and then we talk with Oregon's three Grammy nominees: Portugal. The Man, The Decemberists' side project Offa Rex, and Randy Porter and Nancy King.Remembering Ursula K Le GuinPortland lost a living legend this week. Ursula K. Le Guin passed away on Monday at the age of 88 in her Northwest home. Her writing not only spanned genres, it tore down the barriers that separated them, helping to elevate science fiction and fantasy into "literature" — to say nothing of opening up fiction to women writers and women protagonists. The worlds Le Guin created were places of refuge for those who felt like outsiders and places that challenged readers to think differently and expand their imaginations. In this segment, we listen to: 2:04 - A remembrance from April Baer 5:50 - A conversation with Le Guin at Wordstock in 2015, shortly after the release of a new version of her guide to writing, “Steering the Craft,” in which she spoke about her writing process and what it means to “push back” as a woman writer. 13:57 - A conversation with Le Guin's eldest child, Elisabeth Le Guin, a professor of musicology at UCLA, about the inspiration that is her mother, and what it was like to sit around the dinner table with such a fierce woman. You can listen to the full interview here. 22:38 - A conversation with Molly Gloss, the author of numerous books including "The Hearts of Horses" and "Wild Life," who met Le Guin in 1981 and has been a close friend and writing peer since. You can find the full conversation on Think Out Loud.Portugal. The Man's "Feel It Still" Is Up for Best Pop Group Performance - 29:17“Feel It Still,” the first single from Portugal. The Man’s newest album, “Woodstock,” set new records at the top of multiple charts, becoming the biggest crossover hit since Gotye’s “Somebody that I Used to Know.” Now the song has snagged Portugal. The Man a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Last summer, the band played an exclusive live set at the OPB studio and sat down to talk about the album. You can watch videos of their opbmusic session here. The Decemberists' Collaboration with Olivia Chaney Gets Nominated for Best Folk Album - 35:57The Decemberists may have finally met their match. The band teamed up with British singer Olivia Chaney under the name Offa Rex — a reference to an Anglo-Saxon king. The album, produced by local whiz Tucker Martine, is called “The Queen of Hearts,” and it's up for the Grammy for Best Folk Album. We invited Decemberists frontman Colin Meloy into the studio, and got Chaney on the line from England, to talk about how this dream team came to be. Randy Porter and Nancy King Contend for Best Jazz Vocal Album with "Porter Plays Porter" - 44:32Last but not least in the trio of Oregon Grammy contenders is the jazz pianist Randy Porter. Porter was first exposed to the music of his namesake, Cole Porter, at age 20, when he worked on a revue of the great American composer’s work. Randy Porter has since become a successful pianist known for his impeccable technique, and now his trio has teamed up with one of the region’s jazz treasures, vocalist Nancy King, on the record “Porter Plays Porter with Nancy King.” It’s up for the Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album.
