POPULARITY
Foul mouthed fiend Harry Nelson gives Rise Of The Pink Ladies his first ever Round of Approval™, but just believe me when I tell you that, don't listen to what he actually says about it.
Paramount+ wants you forget it ever happened. But you can't forget it because you never knew it happened in the first place. Grease is one of Paramount's crown jewels and this prequel series has been all but erased from its incredibly brief existence. It's exactly the sort of thing we're always looking for. Grease is the word, indeed.

On this week's Talkhouse Podcast, we've got a pair of multi-hyphenates who have recently joined music-world forces: Justin Tranter and Jake Wesley Rogers. Tranter first found music-biz fame with the band Semi-Precious Weapons, which had a decade-long run starting in 2004, and whose biggest claim to fame—besides their music itself—was opening for Lady Gaga's Monster Ball tour. But Tranter pivoted after Semi-Precious Weapons split up, and started writing songs for and with other artists—but not just any artists. Tranter has written for and/or with Justin Bieber, Imagine Dragons, Selena Gomez, Gwen Stefani, and many, many more—chances are good you've heard a Justin Tranter composition on the radio, even if you didn't know it. Tranter has also written a bunch of songs for the upcoming Grease prequel series, Rise of the Pink Ladies, and seven songs on the brand-new album by the massive Italian band Måneskin. Tranter has also been an incredible activist in the LGBTQ+ community and beyond, and their next move is becoming, as you'll hear in this chat, a mogul. That's where the other half of today's Talkhouse Podcast comes into the picture: Jake Wesley Rogers recently signed on with Tranter's new record label, Facet, and the two have plans to conquer the world together—I wouldn't bet against them. Rogers is from a younger generation, having grown up with the instant gratification of social media. He even appeared on America's Got Talent at 15, and started writing songs even earlier than that. But Rogers really finds his voice with a couple of recent EPs, Pluto and Love. Tranter and Rogers also recently co-wrote a song called “Hindsight,” which plays over the end credits of Bros, the first gay rom-com ever released by a major studio—they talk about that here a bit as well. Check out that song below. In this conversation, Tranter and Rogers talk about their daily processes, including The Artists' Way, they talk about great pop songs, great middle school teachers, destroying the patriarchy, and the dangers and joys of social media. Enjoy. Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to Justin Tranter and Jake Wesley Rogers for chatting. If you like what you heard, please check out all the goodness on Talkhouse.com and subscribe to our weekly e-mail newsletter. This episode was produced by Myron Kaplan, and the Talkhouse theme is composed and performed by the Range. See you next time!

“Over the Rainbow”, “Get Happy”, “Come Rain or Come Shine”. These are the songs you have been singing your whole life, and now is your chance to learn about who wrote them! In this week's episode, travel somewhere over the rainbow into the singular mind of renowned composer Harold Arlen, a key contributor to the American Songbook whose hundreds of pop tunes became runaway hits during the 1930s, ‘40s, and ‘50s. Arlen collaborated with the greatest of the Tin Pan Alley lyricists, including E.Y. "Yip" Harburg, Johnny Mercer, Ted Koehler, Ira Gershwin, Dorothy Fields, and Truman Capote. While any number of Arlen's compositions assured his prominent place in musical history, the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) deemed “Over the Rainbow” to be the 20th century's greatest song. “I Got Rhythm”, “Summertime”, “The Man I Love”. These are the songs you have been singing your whole life, and now is your chance to learn about who wrote them! In this week's episode, the men you love are at the forefront: George and Ira Gershwin, brothers who sometimes seemed to write their hits with four hands and one brain. George's gift for melody and Ira's ability to seamlessly blend lyrical sophistication with the American vernacular made for a plethora of immortal songs that both reflected and shaped the dynamic forces of American modernism during the Jazz Age. Hear directly from Michael Feinstein, Norm Lewis, and more, as they guide you through the astounding lives of these two geniuses, cut from the same cloth.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In this week's episode, you'll fall freely in love with Cole Porter, the master of melody and lyrics who changed the soundscape and language of American music - and America itself. Writing songs for over 30 stage and film musicals, his best work set standards of sophistication and wit seldom matched in the popular musical theater. “Wouldn't It Be Loverly”, “Get Me to the Church on Time”, “If Ever I Would Leave You”. These are the songs you have been singing your whole life, and now is your chance to learn about who wrote them! This week's episode is guaranteed to be “loverly”, as we dive headfirst into the life and times of Alan Jay Lerner & Frederick Loewe, one of the greatest songwriting teams in history responsible for the most stylish, sophisticated theater music of the 20th century. The Lerner-Loewe formula was to combine Loewe's lush, melodic music, redolent of Viennese waltz, with Lerner's witty, literate lyrics; this they did in some of the most popular and best-remembered musicals of the mid-20th Century, including My Fair Lady, Brigadoon, and Camelot. As told by scholars such as Laurence Maslon as well as Liza Lerner, Alan Lerner's daughter, the origin story of Lerner & Loewe illuminates how their disparate paths converged to form a dynamic duo that would define the future of American musical theater. Vogue Magazine named today's guest, Jake Wesley Rogers, Gen Z's Elton John, but truth is, he is a wildly-talented, 25-year-old singer, songwriter and performer not only dazzles audiences but also stands powerfully in an identity that belongs to no one other than himself. How a queer kid from Springfield, Missouri, went from growing up in the deep South, then studying songwriting in Nashville, TN, to eventually gracing the stages of music festivals like Lollapalooza, headlining for artists like Panic At The Disco! and Ben Platt isn't all that of a mystery once you hear his music—and his story. Jake has this unique way of creating bold, emotional music that tells the stories of his life, yet feels universal at the same time. He invites us all to feel and sing and move and, in no small way, reclaim the parts and stories in our own lives that we've left behind. Elton John, himself, sang Jake's praises while he was a guest on the 300th episode of Elton's Apple Music radio show Rocket Hour, saying Rogers reminded him of himself when he started out. And, all the while, what you'll experience in this conversation, is how deeply grounded, loving, and intentional he is with everything he does.In today's conversation, we dive into Jake's journey in music and life and explore some of the lyrics of his recently released six-song EP Pluto, which has been long-awaited since his signing to hit songwriter Justin Tranter's imprint of Warner Records, Facet Records, in 2020. We unpack the art of songwriting and storytelling and its ability to help us process difficult experiences and explore some interesting asides on identity, finding inspiration, his connection and love for his family, and how important it is for Rogers to keep himself centered and present as the rocket ship that has become his career as an artist takes off. His EP “Pluto” is filled with passionate ballads and poetic lyrics that tell the stories of his most formative years and dealings with love of all forms—from romantic to familial to self-love. And though Jake is early in the years, he's deeply wise, we can all learn something from his outlook not just on storytelling but on gratitude, joy, and taking life in stride. Have you ever asked yourself: “Who am I? What do I stand for?” Many of us do ask these questions and when we do, it can be a catalyst that sets us on an alternative path - even though we know it might disappoint those around us. Yet, all too often, even when our inner knowing is forcing us to pay attention, life can pull us in the direction of expectations versus desire. We hesitate to follow our curiosity for fear we might let down our family and loved ones. As a result, we stay on course towards what “we're supposed to do”. But it doesn't always have to be this way. Sometimes choosing the new path is just what we need to honor our voice, culture and family. This is why I'm excited to share this conversation with Connie Lim, whose artist name is MILCK for this Best Of Conversation. MILCK rose to widespread attention after a video of an a capella performance of her song "Quiet" on the street at the 2017 Women's March exploded into the public's consciousness going viral and becoming embraced as an anthem for the movement. That moment and the impact and reach of the song led to a major record deal and collaborations as a songwriter that launched the career she's been working to build for years. But that career almost never happened. MILCK grew up in an enclave of LA, the child of immigrants from China, and was drawn to music from her earliest days. She wrote her first song at 7 years old and studied classical piano and opera. Yet the pressure of intense perfectionism and the expectation she'd eventually leave music behind to follow the family tradition into medicine led her into years of profound emotional struggle. Eventually, she hit a point in college where she decided it was time to choose herself over the expectations of others, as well as the burden of perfectionism that had caused so many years of suffering and harm. MILCK left college and went all-in on music, performing as an independent artist for years, slowly building her name, before that fateful day in 2017 that changed everything. She's now deep into writing, producing and performing her own work, while also writing with and for other artists and focusing on not just sharing her own creative voice, but also gathering community and shining the light on truth and inequity along the way.You can find MILCK at: Website | InstagramIf you LOVED this episode you'll also love the conversations we had with Justin Tranter about their journey through challenging times as a kid growing up and then stepping into the world of music - first as a musician, and then as a powerhouse songwriter and collaborator.Check out our offerings & partners: My New Book Sparked | My New Podcast SPARKEDVisit Our Sponsor Page For a Complete List of Vanity URLs & Discount Codes.Little Stories Everywhere See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

How do you create a radical change in direction in your life? My guest today, Rosie Acosta, found herself asking that question in her mid-teens, after being arrested, and the answer came in a way she never saw coming. Born and raised in East LA at a time when gang violence was the norm, Rosie pushed up against authority from a young age. But, after being arrested, a simple sentence led her to commit to a radical reimagining of her own life. She didn't know what form or shape it would take, until one day, ditching school, she found herself in the Self Realization Fellowship in LA, listening to the words of a woman who would change her life, and lead her down a path of spirituality she never saw coming. Especially since she'd rejected religion, or anything smacking of faith, in the years before. Now, a sought-after advisor, coach, yoga and meditation teacher, she travels the world leading workshops, retreats, and trainings, boasts a private clientele that includes Olympic athletes, NFL champions, NBA All-Stars and veterans of war, and hosts the Radically Loved podcast. A first-gen Mexican-American, Rosie's mission is to help others overcome adversity and experience radical love, and she shares her philosophy on radical love in her new book, You Are Radically Loved: A Healing Journey to Self-Love.You can find Rosie at: Website | InstagramIf you LOVED this episode:You'll also love the conversations we had with Justin Tranter about defying convention and expectation and carving your own path in the world. My new book Sparked.Check out our offerings & partners: Novo: Novo is a powerfully simple business banking platform with no hidden fees built for small business owners. It was Shea's a cappella performance of “I Am Her”, which we heard the version of to open this broadcast, at a Black Trans Lives Matter event that caught the attention of Justin Tranter, a songwriter who has worked with artists such as Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber, and Gwen Stefani. With Tranter as her producer, Diamond is focused on lending her voice to those who have none.

Music is the way to the soul and for many it is the balm needed to make it through rough times. For Katie Vinten, music helped her through the rough times and elevated the wonderful times. She has always been drawn to music and has since taken the music industry by storm. Katie always knew she needed a creative outlet which drove her to seek out NYU's Tisch as her school of choice for college. Through his belief in her, and following her own gut, she managed to find and sign several amazing artists. It was then that she formed Black Diamond Artist Management and then co-founded Facet House with singer and mega hit songwriter, Justin Tranter. Under her watch, they've achieved literally billions of streams!
