Tune into an eye-opening episode of Transform Your Workplace as host Brandon Laws sits down with Scott Cawood, the CEO of WorldatWork. Their discussion revolves around the recent and profound shift from a production-based to a consumption-based economy. Scott sheds light on the implications of this transition and what this means for businesses, leaders, and employees. One thing's for sure — as the workplace undergoes this transformative evolution, it's clear that people are the linchpin to an organization's success. Listen in to learn how you can give your people a voice as valued stakeholders in your company. TAKEAWAYS The world of work has shifted from a production-based model to a consumption-based one, where the focus is on the consumption of information, skills, and products. Employees should no longer be viewed as mere workers but as full human beings, and their engagement and well-being play a vital role in any organization's success. Communication and transparency are essential for helping employees navigate complex processes such as promotions, compensation, and rewards. CEOs aren't the only ones who want to leave a legacy; most people want to make an impact with their work. To enhance an organization's overall success, leaders must evaluate the equity of the employee experience and elevate employees to a higher level as stakeholders. A QUICK GLIMPSE INTO OUR PODCAST
The billions gambled away by self-confessed Ponzi operator Craig Warriner were sourced through high-profile financial companies, whose endorsement provided the credibility the St Stithians old boy's criminal enterprise needed. In this fascinating interview, Pretoria attorney Werner Cawood the only victim present when Warriner appeared in a small Katlehong municipal court last week, explains what happened there - and how his firm was sucked into investing with the fraudster's front company, BHI Trust. Cawood is representing over 100 fellow victims and has applied for the sequestration of the BHI Trust to protect whatever remains of the operation run out of 4 Gremlin Road in Sandton - including data that will implicate the enabling companies. He told Alec Hogg of BizNews that this will help victims go after them

Chris and Emily are happy to welcome back author SHULY CAWOOD to talk about her new poetry collection, SOMETHING SO GOOD IT CAN NEVER BE ENOUGH. Shuly reads a poem and talks about her poetic process, and we ask her to discuss our favorite(s) in the collection. We enjoy Shuly's poetry in part because it is so accessible. Biblio Adventures are always fun and interesting, and we went on one that opened up a huge new-to-us genre, ROMANCE! We recap a conference we attended at Yale, Popular Romance Fiction: The Literature of Hope. Chris watched the Senate Judiciary Committee's Hearing on Book Bans. We also had a great day in NYC with Aunt Ellen visiting The New York Society Library, The Corner Bookstore, and Kitchen Arts and Letters. Oysters were also involved. Some of the books we've read since the last episode include (not surprisingly) two romance novels. Chris read CLEAT CUTE by Meryl Wilsner and Emily read the first in the Hell's Belles series by Sarah MacNeal, BOMBSHELL. Chris finished THE INFERNO by Dante. Emily goes out on a limb and declares that PROPERTIES OF THIRST by Marianne Wiggins might land on her top 10 list this year. She also finished THIN PLACES by Kerri Ní Dochartaigh and loved ZORRIE by Laird Hunt which was one of our BookTube buddy Russell of Ink and Paper Blog's favorites in 2021. So many books! And we are thrilled about it. And also happy that it is Autumn, one of our favorite seasons.
April is National Poetry Month. We began the month with poetry and we are ending it the same way.

Happy National Poetry Month! We kick off this episode with Emily reading Lucille Clifton's poem, “Climbing,” and end with an in-depth conversation with poet Shuly Cawood about her poem, “Starter Marriage.” [The full text of Shuly's poem is at the end of this description if you'd like to read it before or while listening to the episode.] Both of us have Writing and Creativity on our minds. Emily started Julia Cameron's THE ARTIST'S WAY, and Chris is listening to WRITING FOR IMPACT by Bill Birchard. And we have some reading/writing synchronicity going on with Natalie Goldberg. Emily is reading & listening to her classic, WRITING DOWN THE BONES, and when visiting McNally Jackson at Rockefeller Center in NYC Chris picked up WRITING DOWN THE BONES DECK. More recently read books include WHY AM I SO ANXIOUS by Tracey Marks, MY DEAREST DARLING by Lisa Franco, BOOKSELLING IN AMERICA AND THE WORLD, ed. by Charles B. Anderson. And thanks to listener Colleen's birthday book club tradition, we revisited a childhood favorite, Judy Blume's ARE YOU THERE GOD? IT'S ME, MARGARET. There's another #buddyread on our horizon: TRAVELS WITH CHARLEY IN SEARCH OF AMERICA. We're reading this for the Vintage Book Club which is sponsored by Book Club on the Go and will meet on Thursday, April 20, 1 pm at the Wood Memorial Library and Museum in South Windsor, CT. All are welcome. We had a fantastic biblioadventure together in Boston. After spending the day working in Simmons University's Beatley Library, we visited the amazing independent bookstore, Brookline Booksmith. Emily is going to be moderating two author sessions at the Newburyport Literary Festival, April 28-30: — The Other Family Doctor: A Veterinarian Explores What Animals Can Teach Us about Love, Life, and Mortality by Karen Fine, DVM —Three Roads Back: How Emerson, Thoreau, and William James Responded to the Greatest Losses of Their Lives by Robert D. Richardson with a foreword by Megan Marshall (Emily's conversation will be with Megan). Chris is bummed that she won't be able to attend the Newburyport Literary Festival or either of the two Willa Cather conferences this June. She is, however, planning to attend a series of four virtual events with author Benjamin Taylor that the National Willa Cather Center is offering beginning on April 27th. Taylor's new book, CHASING BRIGHT MEDUSAS: A LIFE OF WILLA CATHER, is to be published in November. Visit the episode show notes for more details and links to the books, places, and events listed above.https://www.bookcougars.com/blog-1/2023/episode179 Happy Reading! Chris & Emily ______ Starter Marriage by Shuly Cawood after Erin Adair-Hodges* First there was the word and the word was trying. Trying the apartment with white walls, popcorn ceilings, footsteps heavy above, thudding over our days. Trying the job I took filing papers into squeaking cabinets, the one you took answering phones for dentists. Trying the brown bag lunches with limp sandwiches and sliced cheese, the softening apple, the room-temperature soda. Consuming it all on church steps, hunched below the overhang as it rained. Trying the cold pool after work with dead insects needing to be netted. Unraveling towels, TJ Maxx suits, the walk back on the no-car driveway. All heat evaporated. Empty stomachs. No one wanted what the other craved. Trying the red Chevrolet with the bad battery, no parking without pay, the bus rides to and from work, your stop, my stop, the sun hitting hard, us squinting at the sky. Your last day, the blue electric toothbrush they gave you as goodbye. Buzzing in your mouth with all those trapped words. Trying the new queen mattress we could not afford but bought anyway. Trying the laundry we toted to the next building, plastic hampers in our arms full of every day's dirt. Coffee but no creamer, bread but no toaster, sugar hardened in the bag. Day-old everything bagels, buy-one, get-one veggie burritos, dollar theater on Sundays. New job but less pay, new boss but no promotion. Saving for tickets for never vacations. Trying the places we gave up for each other: city salted by an ocean, all those fish and ferry rides; town with three stoplights, two policemen, a forest to get lost in. Your dreams, my dreams, weeds by the parking lot. Trying your face a broken banister, my hands an unused map. *The first nine words are borrowed from “Portrait of Mother: 1985” by Erin Adair-Hodges ______

Hap Cawood was for many years the editor of the editorial pages for the Dayton Daily News. Hap is the author of the novel "The Miler." His daughter Shuly is a prolific writer. Shuly writes poetry, prose, fiction, non-fiction, essays, short stories, and memoir. Over the years that I have hosted the program I have interviewed fathers and daughters but never at the same time. For example, James Lee Burke has made many appearances on the show. His daughter Alafair Burke has too. I would love to interview them together. I doubt that will ever happen though. When I had the chance to have Hap and Shuly together in the studio I knew that it could be something special. I surprised them when I suggested that perhaps they might want to interview one another. I did not give them any advance warning about my plans. Even so, they still agreed to do it. So that's what we did!
A change of location from Cincinnati to the Galveston area has served as an organic songwriting catalyst for Cawood, who recently released an album which pays homage to her family's Appalachian roots.
This episode of Inside Health Care begins with a look at interoperability: the hopeful goal of getting health information systems - and providers - to share data efficiently and effectively. As patients journey from primary doctors to specialists, sometimes from one hospital system to another, all the caregivers have to keep track of what the other ones have already examined, diagnosed, prescribed, and ordered.Danny Cawood, a Product Manager who oversees the product development for MCG Health's interoperability solutions, joins us here to tell us exactly what's wrong with health care today…and maybe how to solve it. Before joining MCG, Danny was a Product Owner for R&D solutions with Optum Technology. That's where he focused on using advanced technologies to solve operational, clinical, and business problems, ranging from chronic care management to benefit administration and beyond. He holds a degree in Management Information Systems from the University of Minnesota. Then we get the inside scoop from NCQA's Director for State Affairs, Paige Cooke. With over 10 years here, including work in customer engagement and business development, Paige also holds degrees in Broadcast Journalism and Healthcare Communications. She joined us to tell us what the State Affairs team is up to – and what's on the horizon. After that, our Matt's Facts segment examines U.S. hospital capacity with help from the American Hospital Association.

Making a Scene Presents an Interview with Cheryl CawoodCheryl Cawood invites listeners on a journey to a bygone era, back to her homeplace. She tells the true tale of a mountain feud involving her great great grandfather on land that was indigenous to the Cherokee. The Cawood settlement of the 1700's was later inhabited by the hundreds of migrant coal workers in the camps that sprang up in Harlan County, Kentucky when the big fossil fuel industry boomed. Cawood's roots are as deep as a cast iron skillet is strong. Imagine Mama frying up a Sunday chicken supper while Pappy scratched out banjo tunes on the front porch. This rich and rustic history can be visualized, heard, and felt on her upcoming release "Bullet in the Cabin Wall".

In early January, the city council enacted a new 1- cent sales tax with 75% earmarked for the ER project and the other for other healthcare needs. The heat liberated during the formation of our planet created an ocean of magma. As it began to cool, the Earth differentiated into a dense metallic core surrounded by a less dense rocky mantle. At some point, we know that the surface of the Earth must have formed itself into the rigid blocks we call plates, and that these plates began to move and interact with each other as parts of the global process we call plate tectonics. But did the plates form and did plate tectonics start soon after the Earth differentiated into the metallic core and rocky mantle over four billion years ago, or was there a long interim period before the initiation of plate tectonics? There is an ongoing debate about this, with some finding evidence for plate tectonics as far back as the Hadean, i.e., over 4 billion years ago, and others suggesting that it was not until the Neoproterozoic, about 750 million years ago, that modern plate tectonics got going. Peter Cawood is a professor in the School of Earth, Atmosphere, and Environment at Monash University in Melbourne. His research aims to discover the origin of the Earth's continents by studying the ancient interiors of continents called cratons. It is these cratons that preserve the clues as to the conditions and processes that prevailed in the early Earth, which in turn can tell us when and how plate tectonics started.
