Drs. Chelsea Johnson, LaToya Council, and Carolyn Choi of CLC Collective share LOVE WITHOUT BOUNDS, a story honoring the diversity of family life and what family can mean based on our intersecting identities and experiences.   BOOK DESCRIPTION: Love Without Bounds: An Intersectionallies Book about Families by Drs. Chelsea Johnson, LaToya Council, and Carolyn Choi Page Length: 48 pages Ages 6 to 12 This follow-up to the critically acclaimed IntersectionAllies: We Make Room For All honors the diversity of family life and what family can mean based on our intersecting identities and experiences. Written by three celebrated women of color sociologists, Love without Bounds: An IntersectionAllies Book about Families is a joyful, heartwarming celebration of family in all its forms: multicultural families; LGBTQ+ families; adoptive and foster care families; single-parent and blended families; transnational families; families impacted by incarceration, detention, and deportation; chosen families; military families; and more. By focusing on the choices families make to persistently love and care for one another in the face of inequality and inequity, Love without Bounds is a necessary resource to make sure all kids feel seen and loved for who they are in community with each another. Features gorgeous illustrations throughout by Ashley Seil Smith and a colorful, informative discussion guide that explains the concepts shown in the book.   NOTABLE QUOTES: (13:05) “Family can be really complicated.”  (13:22)  “Throughout the course of our lives, we may lose family, we may find family, we may rediscover family, we create our own families.” (14:09)  “There is no type of family that is normal or best.” (16:01) “We need to advocate for all families to be able to live and love and, you know, exist alongside one another.” (19:26) “The readers we have in mind are youth that are going through ups and downs of family life and transformation, as well as the adults who continue to process the impact of childhood families and our current experiences as adults, creating families of our own.”  (18:06) “All of [your] hopes, feelings, and struggles matter. Even in the moments and times that [you] don't feel family, [don't] worry because [you] will discover family again and again throughout life. Starting with this library room. “   ADDITIONAL LINKS: Website - CLC Collective Purchase the Book - Love Without Bounds: An Intersectionallies Book about Families Purchase the Book - IntersectionAllies: We Make Room For All Dottir Press - https://www.dottirpress.com/love-without-bounds   TALK ABOUT THE EPISODE: Who is in your family? Who do you consider part of your family? What different types of relationships do you have with the people in your family? What is a “nuclear” family? Do you live in a nuclear family? If not, what word might you use to describe the kind of family in which you live? Dr. Chelsea mentioned that illustrator Ashley Seil Smith hid an animal on each page of Love Without Bounds as well as IntersectionAllies. Can you remember what kind of animal appears on each page? Why do you think it's important to learn about families that look different from yours? How does your family look similar to the family in which your grownup grew up? How is it different?   CREDITS: This podcast episode of The Children's Book Podcast was written, edited, and produced by Matthew Winner. We talk about the values behind her business, why inclusivity is so fundamental and how she works to ensure her salon is a safe space for people of all gender and sexuality. We talk about how Chelsea maintains balance in her life by having a supportive network around her and making sure she books time out as prevention for stress rather than a cure. Having worked incredibly hard to build her business up from the ground, Chelsea is now in a position to start thinking about her personal goals and we talk a little about abundance, fighting the feeling of being greedy and placing a vote of confidence on yourself. We also talk about the practical side of business, finding the right employees that align with her values and why having trusted advisers around is so essential. After that realization, Chelsea became a dog groomer and felt called to also share light all things manifestation/ spiritual and to work with the Divine. She just wanted to shine so much light and positivity and inspire souls! Because of her obsession with dogs (especially her own, the adorable Clayton) she then had a nudge to create her page to share all of this through the thoughts of her dog.You can connect with Chelsea and learn more about her and Clayton on Instagram @pawsoattractionThis episode is brought to you by Four Sigmatic. Skylight Books Author Reading Series

In poetic stanzas, IntersectionAllies introduces the stories of nine kids from diverse backgrounds. Authors Carolyn Choi, LaToya Council, and Chelsea Johnson use each character’s story to explain how children’s safety concerns are shaped by their intersecting identities, such as class, sexuality, dis/ability, race, religion, and citizenship—what is known in academic and activist circles as “intersectionality."   IntersectionAllies features introductions by law professor Dr. Kimberlé Crenshaw, who coined the term intersectionality, and Dr. Ange-Marie Hancock Alfaro, author of Intersectionality: An Intellectual History, and artwork by illustrator Ashley Seil Smith. The stories in IntersectionAllies also suggest ways in which friends can support one another, or be an “ally,” despite different positions in life. The authors believe that forward-looking feminism must start with children, and IntersectionAllies shows that children’s literaturecan be the gateway to educating entire households.

In Genesis 2:7, we find that humans are a "living soul." People don't have a nephesh, we are a nephesh. In the Hebraic thought we are composed of multiple parts. The body is the flesh and bones, the vessel. Your spirit (the breath) enables and animates your personal presence. The organs are viewed as the seats of thought (the heart), emotion (the kidneys), intuition (gut), etc. Unified YOU The soul is the whole of the person, the unity of the body, organs and breath. It is not some immaterial spiritual entity, it is you, all of you, your whole being or self. Season 2 Episode 1 - Wyoming Women’s Antelope Hunt On this episode of Talking Mule Deer, Jodi is in Wyoming at the Ranch at UCross talking about the Wyoming Women’s Antelope Hunt (WWAH). Her guests include the visionary behind the hunt retired state supreme court justice Marilyn Kite, Rebekah Smith Executive Director of the Wyoming Women’s Foundation which hosts the event, Abby Atol event marketer with SITKA Gear a sponsor of the event, and three of the women who participated in the hunt – Melissa McGarvin-O’Melia, Chelsea Johnson, and Rachael Esch. The Wyoming Women’s Foundation is working to help women in the state achieve economic self-sufficiency and provide opportunities for girls, and they recognized that teaching women to hunt can help provide that independence. The hunt is a fundraiser for the Foundation along with providing an opportunity to introduce women to hunting – about one-third of the women that participate in the WWAH have never hunted before. Event organizers work to pair inexperienced women hunters with experienced hunters to serve as mentors and the event also offers meat processing and game cooking instruction. Bekah and Marilyn describe the event in more detail and talk about how potential hunters or outdoor companies can get involved in next year’s hunt, and Abby Atol talks about the importance of events like this for the outdoor industry that is increasingly developing quality hunting gear for women. Jodi then talks to three of the women who received a scholarship to participate and either have never hunted at all or had limited experience. We talk about how on the first day of the event hunter education instructors and event organizers help participants make sure they are comfortable with their gun and how to handle it safely in the field. And we hear the hunt stories from these new hunters and about their plans to continue hunting in the future.

Making her second appearance on Cue To Cue is Singer/Music teacher/Entrepreneur Pamela Demetriou! Pam and I were discussing the nature of the entertainment industry and the stigma that can exist when a performer decides to leaves performing for whatever reason. Whether that be to start a family, have more stability in their life, pursue other creatives endeavours, or sometimes you just need a break! It is a reality that happens and I immediately Wanted Pam to come on and share her story of why she decided to stop pursuing performing and the process she went through mentally and emotionally while transitioning into a new life and how she has been able to still engage her creativity and build a life by design and highlighting another path that is open to creatives who might be considering different option or additions to their creative lifestyle. In this Episode:   How to listen to your intuition and to know when it’s time to leave the business How to design your life What you need to be aware of as a “workaholic” while raising a family How deciphering what kind of parent you want to be when starting a family can help you find your creative career path The importance of having creative vision and striving towards the next project. A little about Pam:   Pamela is the proud owner and director of PS Studio’s Music Together, and has been teaching the program since 2014.  Before entering the teaching/mentoring world, Pamela was a professional Musical Theatre Performer, working with Stage West (Vagina Monologues), Drayton Entertainment (Anne of Green Gables, My Fair Lady) , Theatre Orangeville (A Christmas Carol), Moonpath Productions (Totally Scrooged), TIFT (Emily), ACT Productions (I Love You You're Perfect Now Change, Tick Tick Boom), Oh Canada Eh? (Rocky Horror) and many others.  Pamela was a part of the CBC miniseries 'How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria' and finished in the top 40 finalists for the role of Maria VonTrapp in the Mirvish Production of The Sound of Music.  Pamela sang with Donny Osmond in 1997 in Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and performed for the Queen of England in 2002.  You can hear Pamela as the voice of Miss Harbor on the Children's TV series 'Paws and Tales' and see her on the front of the 'EZ Up Closet Organizer' at Canadian Tire.     After getting married and having two baby girls, Pamela decided to pursue the Music Together® program, which is geared to children from ages 0-5 and their parents.  Pamela opened her centre in 2014 and has since expanded to serve over 100 families in the Orangeville and surrounding area.  Pamela also enjoys mentoring and teaching aspiring professional performers and has the opportunity to do just that with the Theatre Orangeville Young Company. So far she has directed five productions with the Young Company including: Seussical, Into The Woods, The Sound of Music, Beauty and the Beast, and Mary Poppins.  Next summer Pamela will be directing their epic production of Les Miserables, and could NOT be more excited about it!   "I am passionate about connecting with people through music and I encourage my students to find and express themselves in their work.  At the end of the day, the best thing I can offer my students, both young and old, is the permission to communicate LOVE in every possible way.
