For some of us, financial and career success does NOT necessarily equal happiness. And for Lisa Thee, achieving the level of director at a multinational tech company was proving that true. Simply put, as a working mother and technology company executive, she was on the fast track to burnout. But in 2018, Lisa did something most others wouldn't...she changed her career focus from one of "success" to significance. And she never looked back. For starters, Lisa founded a safety focused software start-up - one which helped scale a leading Cybersecurity AI company to a $40M valuation. And now, less than 2 years later, she's leading Launch Consulting's Data for Good practice, helping the world's most innovative healthcare, technology, and gaming companies to accomplish some very ambitious goals such as improving digital safety, anti-toxicity, upskilling programs for diverse populations, and applying AI/machine learning for innovation in healthcare. But it doesn't stop there. Because as a successful female tech startup founder... ...Lisa is an actively sought after Board of Directors Member (she is a member for 3 Strands Global Foundation and the Sacramento Entrepreneurship Academy)... ...Keynote Speaker, and Consultant… ...and she was named to the Top 100 Human Trafficking and Slavery Disruptors List, and has a TEDx talk coming in 2021 on the topic of "Using AI to disrupt Human Trafficking in the Digital Age". Last, but certainly not least, Lisa currently serves as an advisory board member for Engineered Medical Solutions, Spectrum Labs, Marketplace Risk, and Humaxa. On this 11th episode of the Pursuit of Health podcast, Dr. Fethke is honored and excited to invite a dear friend and colleague, Steven Tannenbaum, Esq., to debunk the notion that doctors and lawyers are necessarily always adversaries. Our guest is a seasoned attorney with over 40 years of experience and a senior partner in Tannenbaum, Bellantone & Silver PC, a civil litigation law firm based in Lake Success, New York. He has been recognized as one of the Top Attorneys in North America, an honor bestowed to only a few American attorneys recognized for their degree of professional success and leadership. He additionally serves as a mediator and an arbitrator for National Arbitration and Mediation. He currently serves as National Vice-chair of Parent Heart Watch, the sole national voice dedicated to protecting youth from sudden cardiac arrest and preventable sudden cardiac death. He also serves as a Board of Directors Member of the Louis J. Acompora Memorial Foundation and the Dominic A. Murray 21 Memorial Foundation. He is a past board chair of the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association. He is the 2010 recipient of the American Heart Association's Louis J. Acompora Memorial Heart Saver Award, the 2011 recipient of the American Heart Association Special Recognition Community Outreach Award, the 2012 recipient of the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association's Chairman's Award, the 2013 recipient of the Dominic A. Murray 21 Memorial Foundation's Save a Child Award, the 2015 American Heart Association Heart Saver Award and the 2016 Parent Heart Watch Founder's Award. Mr. Tannenbaum is the rare teacher who can clearly explain such often misunderstood legal processes as Trial by Jury, Tort Law, Good Samaritan Law and the Medical Standard of Care. He shares his views on the proper use of these and other legalities involving healthcare, never losing sight of his role to serve others and uphold the legacy and fundamental nobility of the fields of Medicine and Law. He shares his very personal story as a grateful survivor of a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) which occurred May 6, 2009. This experience led him to become an American Heart Association certified CPR/AED instructor, training more than 10,000 people to date. As an attorney, he remains passionate about the need to inform and empower everyone to prevent and treat SCA. He is a nationally recognized speaker and educator, appearing on television and radio to share his knowledge about CPR/AED usage. He explains how he has fought in several states to establish legal protections from liability through state and national Good Samaritan Laws. He explains the purpose of his work to assist in the drafting of legislation in several states to help save lives. Most notably, Mr. Tannenbaum finishes this wonderful session by advocating for equal and equitable justice for all under the law. He believes that our work is not done until both lawyers and physicians can ensure that all of the wonderful technologies and treatments of modern medicine are available to each and every one of us. In his eyes to do any less is paramount to committing a crime. Next time, on POH Ep 12, we welcome Dr. Richard Hahn, a Cornell and Columbia trained Pediatric Psychiatrist focusing on School-based Psychiatry for a timely discussion about The Psychological Impact on Children of the Covid-19 Pandemic. You can follow Dr. Eric Fethke on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Tik Tok @drfethkemd(This episode will also be available in video format on Youtube @drfethkemd).

“Getting to a place of power and authority, it was important to me to not only focus on the problems that have already been looked at, but to shift the attention and change the conversation to the bigger issues that I really cared about.” - Lisa TheeAs we progress in our careers, it’s natural for our goals to get pushed forward in accordance with our accomplishments. First, it’s getting the big job with the fancy title, then the goal becomes working with a top tier company in your field, until one day it’s all about getting a seat on the Board of Directors. But once you’ve earned those achievements, you might start to feel like there’s more to the ladder than the steps leading up to its summit. For some of us, there comes a time when we’re ready to start building our own ladder. Following a disturbing scene on a business trip abroad early in her career, my guest today made a promise to herself. She vowed that someday when she had accumulated the experience and influence necessary to create change, she was going to dedicate her life to making an impact. So, she worked her way up the corporate ladder and gained the non-profit and volunteer experience she needed during her free time. Eventually, she decided to pivot, recognizing that the time had come to make her move from success to significance. My guest today is Lisa Thee, the CEO and Founder of Launch Consulting Group’s Data for Good Practice. The safety-focused software startup helps innovative healthcare, technology, and gaming companies accomplish their goals relating to digital safety, anti-toxicity, upskilling programs for diverse populations, and applying AI and machine learning for innovation in healthcare. Lisa was on the road to burnout as a busy working mother and technology company executive for a multinational company. So in 2018, she took the reins of her career and became an entrepreneur. Today this female founder has become a Board of Directors Member, Keynote Speaker, and sought-after Consultant. She was named to the top 100 Human Trafficking and Slavery Disruptors list, and has a TEDx talk coming in 2021 on “Using AI to Disrupt Human Trafficking in the Digital Age”. She is an advisory board member for Engineered Medical Solutions, Marketplace Risk, and Humaxa. She is a Board of Directors member for 3 Strands Global Foundation and the Sacramento Entrepreneurship Academy.Today, we’ll hear how Lisa made her transition into entrepreneurship. We’ll also discuss why that leap towards a career with purpose was so transformative both personally and professionally. If you’re considering a pivot from your successful career towards something with a greater social impact and personal significance, Lisa’s story is one that will motivate and inspire you to take action in your own life and career, sparking the alignment of your strengths and passions. How do you define success? For my guest, Monica Mo, it required letting go of her ego, focusing on community, and leading from within. The moment when you realize that letting go of your ego and focusing on solving your communities' problems is the true key to success, you will never look back. So often, we fixate on ourselves. We worry, "Am I saying the right thing? Do I look the part? Should I get more credentials? Is my content up to par with others in my arena?" All of these are valid, understandable questions, but the answers to these questions will not necessarily help solve your communities’ problems. Our Podcast guest, Monica Mo, shares how she achieved success and fulfillment when she embraced the raw, vulnerable, humanness of people, and let go of trying to seem qualified enough, saying exactly the right thing, and shed her ego. I cannot lie, I have a major girl crush on Monica, and this episode highlights exactly why. I’m amazed by her life experiences and how she effectively uses them to enhance her business and life. I value how she leads with her heart and inner wisdom to aid and build her community. And, I respect her generosity and advice. Reiko Donato, TSC Mom, Brand Ambassador at Coeur Sports, Chair of the TS Alliance of Atlanta and past TS Alliance Board of Directors Member, walks me thru the timeline from diagnosis of her daughter thru the current day. She details the process of transition (transition planning is a formal process for helping kids with IEPs figure out what they want to do after high school and how to get there)and elaborates on a new program in her home state of Georgia called Transition Academy. Transition Academy is a career and work center for students with cognitive disabilities, ages 18-22, helping them make a smooth transition into the community upon their exit from the school system. We also delve into her entry into competitive running as a coping mechanism to deal with the stressors of TSC care. A longtime runner, Reiko decided to try a short triathlon. She was hooked, and in no time, was finishing her 5th Ironman in Chattanooga, TN, winning her age group on her birthday!!, Later this year, she will compete in her 6th Ironman in Hawaii. We discuss training, racing, fundraising, and much more. Reiko draws motivation from the unpredictable and often intense nature of TSC care, "While I've certainly felt overwhelmed at times, things never look as bad after a run, and I come home feeling virtually stress-free". Originally from Setagaya Tokyo, residing in Roswell, GA with her husband and daughter. "Reiko's perseverance, determination, risk-taking, traits have been central to Reiko's role as an advocate, heightening awareness of TSC and promoting research to lessen its impact" (https://cdmrp.army.mil/cwg/stories/2013/donato_profile) (music credit: https://www.purple-planet.com/)
