Their oldest daughter Leah was born in between Austin's first and second years of law school and they were later blessed with a son, Connor, and their youngest daughter, Reagan. After law school, Austin and Christie moved their family back to the farm and ranch where they knew they could instill in their children strong Montana values. Austin worked at a law firm in Plentywood before opening his own practice in Culbertson. In 2010, Austin was elected to serve as the Representative for House District 34, defeating a two-term incumbent Democrat in what was one of the most expensive State House races in Montana history. As you probably already know, it is Women's History Month, and here at SunCast we have very intentional programming for the month of March. 3 years ago Miss Tara Doyle, a good friend of our show insisted that we do more for not just the gender diversity, but the equity across the board. We’re doing our best to keep that habit and intention here in March, promoting female voices and increasingly more equity generally, throughout our show. We want to nod here to all of the fantastic leadership that is coming into the solar industry that just continues to blow our minds away. It’s well documented that companies with female leadership excel across many different metrics, not the least of which is profitability. And leadership skill is something that I personally learned more from my female bosses than my male bosses. Today, we have someone that I'm really honored and proud to have on the show, Miss Anne Choate, and she’s been such an instrumental figure for so many organizations, public and private, across government lines across (country and state level) at ICF. Ira Pastor, ideaXme exponential health ambassador, interviews Dr. Roey Tzezana,Futures Studies Researcher, Tel Aviv University, Research Fellow, Brown University, and Lead Researcher, XPRIZE Foundation. Ira Pastor Comments: An inducement prize contest (IPC) is a competition that awards a cash prize for the accomplishment of a feat, usually of engineering, and are typically designed to push the frontiers and extend the limits of human ability and can be extremely effective in pushing the advancement of technology. Some of the most famous IPCs include the 1714–1765 longitude rewards, which were the system of inducement prizes offered by the British government for a simple method for the determination of a ship's longitude at sea, and the Orteig Prize (1919–1927), funded by New York hotel owner Raymond Orteig, to the first allied aviator(s) to fly non-stop from New York City to Paris IPCs are distinct from recognition prizes, such as the Nobel Prize, in that IPCs have prospectively defined criteria for what feat is to be achieved for winning the prize, while recognition prizes may be based on the beneficial effects of the feat. The XPRIZE Foundation The XPRIZE Foundation is a non-profit organization that designs and manages public competitions intended to encourage technological development that could benefit humanity. The XPRIZE Foundation mission is to bring about "radical breakthroughs for the benefit of humanity" through incentivized competition. It fosters high-profile competitions to motivate individuals, companies, and organizations, across all disciplines, to develop innovative ideas and technologies that help solve the grand challenges that restrict humanity's progress. As of January 2018, there are seven completed XPRIIZE contests and eight active contests. The Ansari XPRIZE for Suborbital Spaceflight was the first in 1996, which helped establish the model. Since then, new challenges have expanded into a range of other fields including Exploration (Space and Oceans), Energy & Environment, Education and Global Development, and the Life Sciences. Recently, XPRIZE Foundation released the Future of Longevity Impact Roadmap, a digital report and interactive website that reveals 12 breakthroughs that can promote increased health and life expectancy for all. Dr. Roey Tzezana Today we are joined by Dr. Roey Tzezana, a Futures Studies researcher at Tel Aviv University and a Research Fellow at Brown University. With a PhD in Nanotechnology from Technion Israel Institute of Technology, he’s acting as lead researcher at the XPRIZE Foundation where he leads the research focused on human longevity, which should eventually, hopefully, lead to the development of treatments to stop and reverse aging. Dr. Tzezana also is acting as a scientific consultant to several firms and international organizations, and is the author of several best-selling books about the future of technology and society including “Guide to the Future,” “The Future Guide: The Technological Revolutions That Will Change Our Lives,” and “Governing the Future: Equity, Technology, Hope.” Dr. Tzezana has also co-founded the SimPolitixproject for political forecasting, and TeleBuddy, a firm that operates tele-presence robots around the globe, allowing him to teach, lecture and live in three different continents at the same time, using robotic avatars as his bodies. His research has led him to journey worldwide, from Kazakhstan to Latin America and even Antarctica, trying to understanding how technology will impact humanity and reshape our society and institutions. On this show we will hear from Dr. Tzezana: About his background, how he became interested in biology, in nanotechnology, and in futurism. His general views on emerging technologies and the future. Why such competition models are so crucial in "un-met" areas like healthy longevity research. About the history and design of the XPRIZE longevity model. The challenges and areas of longevity research he is most excited about. Credits: Ira Pastor interview video, text, and audio. Oklahoma is an important state for the US oil and gas industry. Excluding federal offshore areas, Oklahoma was the nation's fifth largest crude oil producing state in 2016. It is one of the top natural gas producing states in the nation, accounting for 7.6% of U.S. gross production and 8.7% of marketed production in 2016. Over the last ten years crude oil production has more than doubled to 533,000 barrels per day. However, the ramp up in oil and gas production has also brought environmental concerns. In 2017, Oklahoma became the second largest producer of wind energy in the U.S., generating around 30% of its net electricity.   On a new episode of Columbia Energy Exchange, host Jason Bordoff sits down with Mike Teague, Oklahoma’s Secretary of Energy, and Environment. Mike Teague, who was appointedto this role in 2013, is responsible for coordinating over 30 state agencies, boards, compacts, and commissions in advancing policies that encourage energy production and environmental stewardship throughout Oklahoma. Prior to his appointment, Mike served in the US Army for 30 years.   Mike and Jason caught up recently to talk about the outlook for the oil & gas industry in Oklahoma and the important role that renewables could play in meeting energy demand in the state in the coming years. Mike also touches on his career transition from being a Colonel in the Army to leading Oklahoma’s Office of Energy & Environment. Other topics include environmental issues associated with shale production in Oklahoma, notably seismic activity.

Many issues have been bringing the future of energy in general to the forefront, and they will not be going away. How do we get our energy. What is the cost of it, in financial, social and environmental terms. Are our current practices sustainable. What will happen in those seperate but intertwined realms if we don't change before it's past a point of no return. Will Canada get left behind as the world continues to develop the next energy revolution. Do we have the necessary tools to lead this transition. How do we build the momentum to be a global leader in the new energy world. Iron & Earth is an oilsands-worker led movement committed to catalyzing the renewable energy sector in Canada. They believe energy development must insure the health and equity of workers, their families and communities, as well as our shared economy and environment. Given the obvious economic realities of global oil markets, we must start investing now in the workforce and manufacturing capacity Canada needs to meet our climate targets and ensure stable, long-term employment for Canadians into the future. The goals of Iron & Earth are straightforward and achievable. To build public, workforce and industry support for renewable energy development and manufacturing in CanadaTo build the workforce and manufacturing capacity required to meet climate commitments and a global renewable energy export marketTo build a community of like-minded co-workers, volunteers, supporters, stakeholders and advisors around their mission, vision and values Lliam Hildebrand of Iron & Earth joins us to discuss this project that has the potential to become a large part of Canada's future, for today and tomorrow's economy, society and environment. Shrinking reserves of oil and gas, shifts in the geopolitical landscape, and mounting environmental concerns all test our ability to meet the growing demand for energy. At the same time, there are huge opportunities to develop new, cleaner and more efficient ways to tap large conventional and alternative energy sources in Canada. Dr. Layzell will begin his presentation by talking about the nature of the energy and environmental challenges in Canada today, and summarize the scope of the initiatives that he is working to develop. His presentation will end with a Canadian perspective on “The Future of Biofuels”, a critique of recent biofuel policies and an analysis of the optimal role for biofuels if they are to address the challenges of climate change and energy security. Speaker: Dr. David Layzell, Ph.D., FRSC David Layzell joined the University of Calgary in July 2008 as the Executive Director of the Institute for Sustainable Energy, Environment and Economy. He has also served as Founding President and CEO of BIOCAP Canada, a national university research foundation that worked with researchers in 38 universities across Canada to develop biology-based solutions to climate change and energy security. From 1981 to 2008 he was a professor of Plant Science at Queen's University, a role that was recognized by a University Research Fellowship, an NSERC Steacie Fellowship and election as a Fellow in the Royal Society of Canada.
