Our hosts return to the podcave and sit down to review the episode that features the first appearance of Ra's and Talia Al Ghul, OFF BALANCE. Alex and Will give their thoughts on the villain Count Vertigo, from his cheap gimmicks to his 1930's German soldier look (if you know what I mean). They also discuss Batman's attempts at flirting, the giant vibrator made by Wayne Tech, and why the Society of Shadows is nothing more than a bunch of frat boys. Our hosts also cast Count Vertigo, Ra's & Talia Al Ghul in their live action fan-casted universe, plus Will shares updates on Outbreaks Issue 3 Kickstarter fulfilment! I Am The Knight Batman falls into the depths of depression after Commissioner Gordon is shot by the Jazzman during a botched raid. Batman was meant to be present but was delayed by thugs while paying his annual visit to the site of his parents' murder. With Gordon hospitalized and near death, the Dark Knight becomes consumed by self-doubt. Only when the Jazzman escapes custody and attempts to murder Gordon does Batman snap out of his funk. His spirit is further renewed when he encounters a young man, he'd previously given up hope on, now on the road to reform and grateful for Batman's intervention. Off Balance While following Count Vertigo's trail, Batman encounters comes across a mysterious woman called Talia, who was sent by her father to prevent the capture of a sonic drill that the Count stole from Wayne Enterprises. On their quest to stop Vertigo, Talia learns Batman's identity and they are forced to work together in order to fight Vertigo's effects, but the more they collaborate, the more doubts Batman has about Talia's loyalties. The Man Who Killed Batman While a third-rate mob stumble-bum Sidney Debris was acting as look-out for drug runners, Batman surprised him on a warehouse roof. The two struggled, and Sid's bumbling caused Batman to pitch off the roof and into a shed of explosive gas. After the ensuing fire, the only thing found was Batman's cape and cowl. It seemed Sidney had done the impossible and become the man who killed Batman. Mudslide Clayface is falling apart – literally. His clay like body is virtually disintegrating. Fortunately, Stella Bates, a woman scientist he knew from his movie star days, tries to stabilise Matt's decaying form by using a rare isotope stolen form Wayne Enterprises – the irony being that Bruce Wayne would gladly help if given the chance. But Clayface is too hateful to yield, and winds up falling into the sea, where he dissolves into nothingness. Episode 82: Batman The Animate Series - Off Balance, The Man Who Killed Batman and Mudslide Welcome to The Uncaped Crusaders Review! This is a podcast where Mark and Ian discuss (and rant) about all things Batman! So much to get to this week! After catching up with some news and what we've been watching we are recapping three more episodes of Batman The Animated Series. First it's Count Vertigo and the first meeting between Talia Al Ghul and Batman. We will also see some Hitchcock references and the first appearance of Ra's Al Ghul. Next we have one of the all-time great episodes. Batman has been accidentally killed by a pathetic nobody and we see how Gotham takes it. The gangs are thrilled, the cops crushed and The Joker...well when the Joker gives Batman's eulogy, it's the greatest Joker scene of all time. Mark does his best to recreate it. Last we are in a strange Clayface episode where he is falling apart. There are more movie references in this episode than any we've ever seen in the show. Follow us on Twitter @UncapedReview to keep up with what we are up to! Follow Mark @MARKYMARKBRAND and Ian @ianbarkbark as well! Check out our YouTube channel The Uncaped Crusaders. While the costume may look nearly identical to the one worn by Shipp during his first go-round as The Flash in 1990 and 1991, Guggenheim credited The Flash costume designer Kate Main with "pulling off this miracle," developing a costume that looked like the original but presumably did not leave Shipp as miserable as that one did. https://comicbook.com/dc/2018/10/23/new-john-wesley-shipp-as-the-flash-photo-revealed-for-arrowverse/ Arrowverse "Elseworlds" Crossover: First Look at the Monitor Revealed (Date: 23 Oct 2018) The Monitor is coming to the Arrowverse and a new batch of set photos has revealed a first glimpse at the character in live action. No. Gives Diggle a Green Arrow suit Rene - thought thug at first; judged you too much; you're a good man Quentin - trust me; I feel bad about Laurel 1, so I will protect Laurel 2; reminisce about arrest, lie detector Dinah - Please keep Black Siren safe; you've done a great thing putting vengeance aside With info, FBI can take city back Hospital: tells Quentin he learned how to be a good father because of him Arrested. To camera, “I am the Green Arrow.” Gives speech about how he needs to take responsibility, but the city is strong and needs to keep fighting; Star City still needs saving If escapes, will arrest everyone Says good-bye to William; has Lyla put Felicity and William in protective custody until Diaz caught Felicity Smoak / Overwatch So much easier using FBI computers when you have access Can track a pacemaker To Oliver - what's going on? Has escape plan John Diggle / Spartan There should only be one Green Arrow At ARGUS Curtis Holt / Mr. Terrific Did stuff Dinah Drake / Black Canary I respect you so much, Oliver. You put together a team of heroes Rene Ramirez / Wild Dog While in tripwired room, calls Zoe What you just said means a lot to me, Oliver Quentin Lance Diaz threatens Laurel; Diaz wants him to kick FBI out of city Tells Oliver about pacemaker Goes to Diaz, proof of life, doesn't follow Watson's orders Not in immunity agreement Takes a bullet for Laurel “Don't call me ‘Hoss' at my funeral” Figures out Oliver gave himself to FBI Agent Watson In charge of FBI; insists on taking control of Star City Black Siren is a criminal; not a hostage Arrests everyone on Diaz's list Laurel Lance / Black Siren Locked up by Diaz and has collar Called Sara; tells Sara she is not like her Laurel Ricardo Diaz / Richard Dragon Called in the Longbow Hunters - 3 guys - League afraid of them 'Arrow': Who Are the Longbow Hunters? (17 May 2018) [http://comicbook.com/dc/2018/05/17/arrow-season-6-finale-longbow-hunters/] A team of supervillains who debuted Green Arrow (Vol. 5) #31 from July 2014 in the storyline "The Outsiders War, Book 6: Spoils of War". The volume was part of DC's New 52 era. Created by Jeff Lemire, the Longbow Hunters was assembled by Richard Dragon -- that would be Ricardo Diaz's comic book counterpart -- and was comprised of Count Vertigo, Brick, Red Dart, and Killer Moth. Black Siren sends him into the river Alive Anatoly Gets caught being Oliver's ally Surrenders; tells Oliver about Diaz meeting Longbow Hunters What we got right - Quentin dying by saving Black Siren Oliver lost (Diaz didn't win, which is what Michelle thought would happen) Oliver out as GA, prison (Chris) Team Arrow kisses and makes up to fight Diaz Didn't like? Episode and/or whole season Michelle: Sara in episode for less than 3 minutes; what was the point? How come the FBI didn't help Star City until now? Is the US government awful in the Arrowverse? Lame “Captain America: Civil War” ripoff storyline. How did Diaz do all of this? SP - “Hoss” I mean really. I hate that term and how much it's used. Also. All if forgiven between Rene and Oliver? Longbow hunters. Really? Out of nowhere? And we didn't get to see them much I don't see how this could have been a series finale Little to no Flashbacks. We knew this going in but it really hurt the series No funeral for Quentin...and it's not really even possible. Memorial, yes. Funeral. No. So who is the Star City Mayor? Agent Watson? Seems self-serving No shirtless scenes So Oliver spends the entire season in prison or even part of it and gets out….then what? He is outed as The Green Arrow. “You have failed this city” missing a bit What happened with the startup? Fractured Team Dinah Ruined Wedding in the Cross-over (reception in cross-over) Chris - Black Siren arc was dumb all season long. Redemption arc i never bought into. Wasted guest appearance by Sara. How does she miss getting to see her Dad, she has a timeship? Nobody cares about secret identities anymore. Forgetting that Ollie is a competent fighter. He doesn't need a team. no mention of Talia all season no deaths of consequence when Lian Yu blew up. Rene got ruined in dumb civil war Did like? Episode and/or whole season Michelle - The last two episodes had a lot of action; Anatoly's alive; Thea had a good exit; Diggle and Lyla SP E2 Laurel Lantz/Black Siren - Katie Cassidy Ricardo Diaz/Dragon - Kirk Acevedo James Caden - Michael Emerson Sister Wives/Nyssa al Ghul - Katrina Law Cross Over (because of LoT and Supergirl) Tommy Merlyn/Christopher Chance - Colin Donnell/Wil Traval Chris - Crossover was fantastic Slade and Nyssa return Setup for Supermax story. It could be great. S7 predictions? Michelle - Roy comes back, first words are “Thea sent me.” Diaz gets captured quickly; otherwise, Felicity will be gone too long, and the show can't be without Felicity and Oliver most of the season. Diggle head of ARGUS, Roy, and NTA not enough to carry show; has to be resolved by crossover or the crossover deals with this mess. There has to be a better villain or maybe not one big bad all season. SP - Oliver gets roughed up in Prison Oliver gets out of prison and puts on the hood again Oliver beats up bad guys and defeats Diaz / Unknown enemy CW cancels Arrow….and maybe some other shows. Chris - Diggle is Green Arrow and Roy comes back to support him when he hears Ollie is in jail. Ollie is out of jail in 2-3 episodes. If they have balls it will be at least ⅓ the season even ½. presidential pardon for the crossover NEXT EPISODE Link to Promo: (Date: 31 Oct 2017) https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/legends_of_tomorrow/legends-of-tomorrow-its-vampire-hunting-season-in-new-promo-for-season-3-episode-5-return-of-the-mack-a154935 Episode: “Return of the Mack” [Season 3 Episode 5] Air Date: Tuesday, November 7. 2017 Summary: The Legends run into Rip in 1897 London where they attempt to hunt down a time-traveling vampire. Supergirl “Truth, Justice and the American Way” S.01 Ep.14 that same week brought 7.25, down from 7.96 the prior week (the prior week was “for the girl who has everything, which was the adaptation of a classic Superman storyline, which may account for the huge numbers) Episode # Episode Title Episode Air Date Rating 1 Pilot, Part 1 21-Jan-16 3.21 2 Pilot, Part 2 28-Jan-16 2.89 3 Blood Ties 4-Feb-16 2.32 4 White Knights 7-Feb-16 2.39 5 Fail-Safe 18-Feb-16 2.25 6 Star City 2046 25-Feb-16 2.47 7 Marooned 3-Mar-16 2.28 8 Night of the Hawk 10-Mar-16 2.01 9 Left Behind 31-Mar-16 1.97 10 Progeny 7-Apr-16 1.88 11 The Magnificent Eight 12-Apr-16 1.98 12 Last Refuge 21-Apr-16 1.78 13 Leviathan 28-Apr-16 1.86 14 River of Time 5-May-16 1.63 15 Destiny 12-May-16 1.89 16 Legendary 19-May-16 1.85 What was the overall theme for this episode / What was the link to the ep. name “Fail-safe” (Chris start us off) Link to Sara as a contingency plan, or “fail-safe” in case things went sideways Name of a cold-war nuclear thriller (see easter eggs) I was trying to find some way to link Fail Safe into the fact that Brandon Routh, Dominic Purcell and Arthur Darvill all went shirtless, breaking a new Berlantiverse record :P Fight scenes & Stunts: Share your thoughts (Michelle first then Neil) Sara takes out 6 guys; Rip and Snart can't take out 1 Team fight in prison yard Time Travel: Share your thoughts (Neil then Chris) Still in 1986 USSR And what the 80's mean is that the Russians are allowed to be the badguys At end - crash in 2046 Star City Key component is watching the timeline: The probability of the United States losing the Cold War has risen to 99%. Star City, the seat of the resistance, is predicted to fall in 2003. Sara's knowledge of the Bratva via Ollie allows her to know who to contact in the current time. Intro scene - for a second I thought it was either timetravel or a flashback, but only for a split second… then I was like “Hey… waaiiiiit a second” Rip Hunter Captaining skills this episode, scale of 1-10 Still learning how to be a captain Needs Kendra and Jackson to convince him to join fight Ray Palmer Mr. Nice Guy in prison - doesn't work Takes a beating for Mick Good time to make a reference to the “your mom” joke, and make draw a parallel to the recurring “Stephen's Mom” jokes in the GonnaGeek Official podcast - lol Sara Lance Doesn't take the shot -- humanity returning? Ninja throwing stars - sweet Kicks ass with the bratva Hawkgirl - Kendra Saunders Reminds Jackson of two-way communication w/Stein Comes up with plan to help team Did she mention being a barista in this episode? Captain Cold - Leonard Snart Priorities - his crew first, then the plan Thinks it's cold for Rip and Sara to possibly kill Stein - the whole “look him in the eye” speech. Heatwave - Mick Rory Risks Snart's plan b/c Ray took beating for him Mick's actions in this episode really define the relationship later on, even after the Chronos reveal Willing to die for the perfect score Professor Martin Stein With the probabilities of the timeline shifting, would he have caved? Smart enough to detect the “fake” reality at the start with the “Almost Cisco” Jefferson Jackson Cuts himself to communicate with Stein Runs on w/hurt knee Without his ability to appeal to Stein, who was inherently stronger than evil Russian Dr., the Russian Firestorm would have become a reality. Waverunner/Gideon Crashes in 2046 - but can still cloak Dr. Valentina Vostock Inspired by Stein's speech about collapse of USSR Doesn't listen to Stein about becoming Firestorm...goes boom! Did she really just go outside and start killing prisoners for no good reason? Guess we're not getting the Negative Woman (Doom Patrol) or White Queen (head of Checkmate) from the DC cannon EPISODE DC EASTER EGGS: Season 1 Episode 5 “Fail-Safe” (Date: 18 Feb 2016) Article:http://comicbook.com/2016/02/19/legends-of-tomorrow-easter-eggs-and-dc-comics-references-in-fail/ Fail-Safe: Movie about a cold War-era conflict and a President of the United States trying to recall a bomber Cisco Ramon: Guest appearance by Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon Beautiful Mind: Savage makes a reference about not hurting Stein's “beautiful Mind”. Maybe a reference to the Russell Crowe movie. Wentworth Miller: “This isn't my First Prison Break”: Bratva Reference: Has been mentioned in Arrow with Ollie's Russian connections and tattoo Killing martin Stein - really a stretch - reference to a time travel trope. Yuri The Bear - Bratva agent isn't a DC character, but is a children's character. Shirtless hanging torture - this is a CW trope, including Arrow… Barry Allen Who? - Shout out to flash Vandal Savage “Vibes” - His sensing of Hawkgirl looks like how Cisco vibes Jax' Drinking Age revisited - Kinda a reversal on the first episode Star City as the seat of the resistance in the future modeled with the Russian Firestorm - recurring thread in DC Partners? - Jax & Stein saying “partners” feels like Ollie & Barry Connor Hawke - Sneak peek at Star City 2046 hints at Connor from the comics. We're back with our 39th episode, and this week, along with all the usual news and air date info, we have an interview with UNTIL DAWN composer Jason Graves, who talks about the challenges of composing music for a very unique game. Until Dawn is an interactive drama survival horror adventure game, which (for our older listener) is somewhat akin to the old 'choose your own adventure' books. When eight friends are trapped on a remote mountain retreat and things quickly turn sinister, they start to suspect they aren’t alone. Gripped by fear and with tensions in the group running high, you’ll be forced to make snap decisions that could mean life, or death, for everyone involved. Every choice you make in your terrifying search for answers – even the seemingly trivial ones – will carve out your own unique story. The game stars Hayden Panettiere (Heroes, Nashville), Rami Malek (Mr Robot), Brett Dalton (AoS), Peter Stormare (Arrow older Count Vertigo, Berlin in the Black List). Jason Graves is...
