In the late 1960s European club football competitions were thriving However unexpected events in 1968 threatened its survival. I delve into the fascinating world of European football during the Cold War era with Craig McCracken, a self-described peddler and purveyor of quasi obscure retro football nostalgia via the 'Beyond The Last Man' blog. We explore the political tensions that influenced European football in the 1960s, and the dramatic events of 1968 when the Prague Spring was crushed by Soviet and Warsaw Pact forces. Discover how these geopolitical events impacted clubs like Celtic, the Milan clubs, and Real Madrid, and the unprecedented decisions UEFA had to make. This episode is a gripping tale of football, politics, and the power struggles that shaped the beautiful game. Well, maybe you should listen to this episode and find out! The live-action Powerpuff Girls CW series thankfully never came to pass. But now showrunner Diablo Cody is talking about WHY it never happened while promoting her new movie. I mean, I think it's pretty obvious to most people why this thing never got off the ground... ➡️ Tip Jar and Fan Support: http://ClownfishSupport.com ➡️ Official Merch Store: http://ShopClownfish.com ➡️ Official Website: http://ClownfishTV.com ➡️ Audio Edition: https://open.spotify.com/show/6qJc5C6OkQkaZnGCeuVOD1 ➡️ Gaming News: https://open.spotify.com/show/0A7VIqE3r5MQkFgL9nifNc Additional Context: The live-action "Powerpuff Girls" series, which was being developed by Diablo Cody for The CW, ultimately never materialized due to various complications. In an interview with TheWrap, Diablo Cody expressed her disappointment over the project's cancellation, noting that there were multiple issues that led to the decision. The series aimed to portray the Powerpuff Girls as disillusioned adults who felt exploited like child stars during their superhero days. The show intended to explore their struggles with Gen Z problems, but this direction proved challenging. Additionally, the original animated series creator, Craig McCracken, criticized the idea of aging the girls up. The CW's then-chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz mentioned that the pilot felt "a little too campy," and there were difficulties in satisfying fans of the original series. Despite these challenges, Cody believes that a live-action "Powerpuff Girls" could still be a possibility in the future, though she might not be involved in such a project. Aaron and Josh Sarnecky are here to talk about The Powerpuff Girls for its 25th anniversary. The Powerpuff Girls is a superhero cartoon created by Craig McCracken. Starting as McCracken's project at CalArts, The Powerpuff Girls later ran as two shorts on Cartoon Network. The official series debuted on the channel on November 18, 1998. The show ran for 78 episodes until March 25, 2005. The Powerpuff Girls are a trio of superpowered kindergarteners created by Professor Utonium (Tom Kane). The team is composed of Blossom (Cathy Cavadini), Bubbles (Tara Strong), and Buttercup (E.G. Daily). Together, they fight crime and defend the city of Townsville from supervillains like Mojo Jojo (Rojer L. Jackson). One of Cartoon Network's most popular shows, The Powerpuff Girls has spawned a theatrical film, an anime, and a 2016 reboot. The CW scrapped a live-action adaptation in 2023. Ace of the villainous Gangreen Gang temporarily served as bassist for the band Gorillaz. Aaron and Josh talk about the show's characters, humor, and action. They also discuss its legacy and the second reboot in the works. For more classic cartoons, you can listen to Josh and Aaron's podcasts on Dexter's Laboratory and Rugrats. Con música de Neal Acree, Motörhead (interpretando a David Bowie), Dr. Fang and the Gang, y The B-52's. Próximo programa: Fantastic Beasts 2 y 3.

Ali discusses her favorite episode of Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, "Frankie My Dear," written and storyboarded by Lauren Faust and directed by series creator, Craig McCracken.
Repeat guest and animation nerd Shehla Faizi gives us a crash course in the work of Craig McCracken to prep us for this episode’s review of his new Netflix series, Kid Cosmic. We talk superhero fatigue, serialization in animation, rehabilitating cats’ evil image, and loving things despite ourselves.
Netflix's Kid Cosmic -- from Craig McCracken, creator of the Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends -- follows the adventures of an imaginative and enthusiastic boy who lives with his free-spirited Grandpa in a sparsely populated desert town. The Kid’s dreams of being a hero seem to come true when he discovers 5 Cosmic Stones of Power in a wrecked spaceship. He forms a team of local heroes to stop an onslaught of alien attacks to steal back the stones. Though the Kid and his team are the good guys, they’re really bad at it,and the Kid learns that his fantasy of being a hero is very different from the reality of what it actually means to become one.A major part of the world of Kid Cosmic is the music. Composer Andy Bean not only did the score for the Netflix series, but also created a series of bands from whose dusty 45s we hear their music, such as the psychedelic garage of Dr. Fang and the Gang, Cepha Pond and the Muzzy Hill Boys' rockabilly, or the joyous R&B of the Soul Contributions.I love, love, love this show and the soundtrack, so it was a real treat to nerd out about all of this -- and even a little bit of Ducktales -- in this conversation with Andy Bean.

While President of Hanna-Barbera, Seibert oversaw the development of a string of hits from The Powerpuff Girls to Dexter’s Laboratory. He has also helped discover Craig McCracken, Genndy Tartakovsky, Pendelton Ward and Seth MacFarlane. In honor of the late Christopher Plummer, Paul and Arlo host a Geek Challenge with two films featuring one of Canada’s greatest. First, Paul has Arlo watch Mike Nichols’ 1994 horror (?) film Wolf, starring Jack Nicholson as a middle-aged book editor who finds the beast inside courtesy of a wolf bite (with a five-minute cameo from a scenery-chewing Plummer). Then, Arlo makes Paul watch Michael Mann’s 1999 ripped-from-the-headlines thriller The Insider, with Russell Crowe as a scientist taking on Big Tobacco, Al Pacino as the journalist trying to tell his story, and Plummer doing one hell of a job as Mike Wallace. Plus, Paul tries to get Arlo to watch Craig McCracken’s new animated series Kid Cosmic. NEXT: the boys sharpen their fangs on a Four-Color Flashback discussion of the first two volumes of Scott Snyder, Stephen King, and Rafael Albuquerque’s American Vampire. It's the two John's on and they're joined by a debutant in Killie fan Aldo. The podcast starts off with a bit of therapy for Aldo in the week that Greg Stewart returned to Aberdeen on loan instead of Kilmarnock. Aldo also vents his frustration with regards to the Jordan Jones situation. We spoke about cup shocks last week and the first game that was played saw one of the biggest shocks the cup has seen for a while. Talbot overcame the odds and made a lot of punters a lot of money. Craig McCracken was the hero as he has been previously in big games such as the Junior Cup final last season. It was some day in Auchinleck and the atmosphere carried long in to the night. History was made as they won against a Senior team in the Scottish Cup for the first time and will return to Tynecastle where they were robbed of a replay in 2012. There were a few other shocks as East Fife won and Partick Thistle actually won a game. There were routine wins for Celtic, St Johnstone and Hibs. The podcast ends with a brief chat about what's going on in League Two. Tweet us @sffpodcastFacebook - Scottish Football ForumsInstagram - sffpodcast

Today's Guest: Joe Murray, animation creator, "Rocko's Modern Life," "Camp Lazlo" Mr. Media is recorded live before a studio audience of two-dimensional, banana-mouthed warthogs in the new new media capital of the world and home of the best team in baseball… St. Petersburg, Florida! Order from Amazon.com by clicking the book cover above Joe Murray has a natural flair for animation and characters that are bursting with... character. But between you and me—and I gotta be honest here—he is also responsible for creating some of the ugliest cartoon characters in history. Have you ever really looked at Rocko, the star of his original Nickelodeon hit, Rocko’s Modern Life? What is that? And Lazlo—OMG! But his cartoons look great, despite the somewhat hideous characters, and kids love them. I know this first hand; my almost 14-year-old daughter to this day insists she is Camp Lazlo’s #1 fan. JOE MURRAY audio excerpt: "I have never been introduced before by talking about the hideousness of my characters! Rocko and Lazlo are my children! But the characters are all about imperfections." Murray, the creator of all this madness, just published a fascinating book called Creating Animated Cartoons with Character: A Guide to Developing and Producing Your Own Series for TV, the Web, and Short Film. Even if you’re not a wannabe animated but just a fan of the art, you’ll find plenty to read about here. The book is packed with practical information, behind-the-scenes anecdotes, rare production sketches and Q&As with an array of familiar animators, from Craig McCracken, creator of The Powerpuff Girls and Dexter’s Laboratory to the creator and voice of SpongeBob Squarepants, respectively, Steve Hillenberg and Tom Kenny. Speaking of Kenny, we'll give a listen to Murray and Kenny at work on a new series they’re developing for KaBoingTV.com, Frog in a Suit. We’ll also have an actual sneak preview from Frog in a Suit in the second half of today’s show. MY LIFE AS A TEENAGE ROBOT creator Rob Renzetti has worked with some of the most legendary names in animation: Genndy Tartakovsky, Craig McCracken, Samurai Jack, Harvey Birdman, the Powerpuff Girls, and some guy named Dexter who had a laboratory. Rob tells Hector that he's lucky to have come up during a new renaissance in TV animation, but with the resume of Rob Renzetti, it's clear that he's a massive talent of his own who never stopped working his cartoon butt off.
