In this episode of the Psychedelic Medicine Podcast, Star Rose Bond, LCSW joins to discuss the topic of using psychedelic-assisted therapy to address intergenerational trauma. As seen in Huffpost, Vice and Psychology Today, Star Rose is a Renegade Psychotherapist, Social Activist, Clinical Supervisor for PEARL Institute and Co-Founder of Life Camp. With a Bachelor's degree from NYU and a master's from Columbia, Star brings 15 years of clinical trauma therapeutic services and experience serving marginalized, under-resourced and at risk populations specializing in harm reduction and PTSD recovery. In this conversation, Star introduces the topic of intergenerational trauma and explores how psychedelic experiences may be leveraged to address this pernicious condition. She begins by explaining what intergenerational trauma means, how it gets passed down, and how it manifests. Star talks about the importance of psychedelic therapists and facilitators having awareness of trauma-informed modalities in order to better serve these populations. She also discusses the complexities of addressing generational trauma, and how it can often be difficult to process sensitive topics within the family unit. However, in conclusion, Star emphasizes that the capacity to heal is an intrinsic aspect of human existence, and that even in particularly dark moments, it is possible to get in touch with this possibility. In this episode you'll hear: How the conditions of Capitalism produce and exacerbate chronic stress The profound impact of neglect and abuse in early childhood The unique experience of intergenerational trauma for BIPOC peoples and the recent rekindling of a spirit of connection in these communities due to psychedelic medicines How processing intergenerational trauma can transform familial relationships Ethical and practical considerations for facilitators and therapists guiding clients through psychedelic experiences aimed at resolving deep-seated trauma What to look for in a psychedelic-assisted therapist or facilitator Quotes: “Just because you have several students or several clients who've experienced the same trauma, don't make the assumption that they're all experiencing it the same way. Or maybe you'll meet a client who has had trauma similar to yours—don't assume that they have undergone the same emotional impact or psychological impact as you. The truth of the matter is we are complex beings. We have so many different moving variables that go into our psychology and that essentially indicate or play a role in how we respond to things.” [8:43] “We can't always express or understand why things happen the way they do. But, we can start to make meaning through a spiritual understanding which in turn lends itself to a sense of ease and comfort.” [22:20] “When you are going into these experiences as a facilitator—whatever your background is—it is of the utmost importance that you are hyper cognizant and hyper aware of the harms that can be caused by not being aware of the ways in which you can navigate someone else's trauma as it shows up.” [25:02] Links: Star's website Star on Instagram Previous episode: Can Your Genes Predict Response to MDMA Therapy? with Dr. Dave Rabin MD, PhD Previous episode: Warning Signs When Selecting a Psychedelic Facilitator with Juliana Mulligan Previous episode: How to Choose a Psychedelic Facilitator or Retreat Center with Joël Brierre My Grandmother's Hands: Racialized Trauma and the Pathway to Mending Our Hearts and Bodies by Resmaa Menakem SHINE Support website Psychedelic Medicine Association Porangui

It's safe to say that nearly twenty years ago when Mark and Jane Neumann founded the Hunt4Life Foundation, they had little idea of the impact their Wisconsin based ministry would have. Now working with Operation Heal Our Patriots and seeing marriages resurrected and people making life altering decisions about their faith, Mark and Jane truly are doing the Lord's work. Coupled with serving young boys who have lost their fathers in the line of duty or to suicide, LifeCamp USA has grown astronomically in less than three years and will no doubt see its benefits felt for generations to come. I can't say enough good things about this ministry and it's one that we will continue to support as long as we are around. This was a great conversation and I look forward to hearing many more of the success stories from the Neumanns for years to come as they continue to transform the Military, First Responder and Law Enforcement Community. To learn more, visit hunt4lifefoundation.org and follow Hunt4Life and LifeCamp USA on Facebook and Instagram. For more information about HHAUSA and how you can support our mission, visit www.hhausa.orgTo purchases HHAUSA hats, shirts, challenge coins and tumblers, visit www.hhasports.com

The name of his ministry Rip'd for Life. Here is the link. https://www.facebook.com/RIPD4LIFERip'd for Life's guiding principles are as follows:RIP'd 4 Life guiding principlesRelationships come first. Relationships are the ultimate reality of the universe and the relationality of God is the basis for understanding all human issues because we were made in the image of our creator who is a relational being. RIP'd 4 Life will make all of its decisions based on the relational well-being of its participants. If it's not good for the relationship, then we don't do it.Giving as a way of life. Human beings are prone to excess. As a dominant cultural force, consumerism and materialism threaten the human soul and ultimately lead to the destruction of the earth and personal dissatisfaction. At RIP'd 4 Life we exist to give. We are endeavor to give and not take. We exist for the sake of others. We aim to serve in the manner of Christ. All of our participants are challenged to think, act and live outside of oneself. We believe the secret to living is giving.Life in community. Communitas is a Latin word that denotes an intense community spirit where feelings of equality, solidarity and togetherness are present. RIP'd 4 Life Camp experiences aspire to create a true spirit of community. Campers and counselors sleep in the same quarters, eat the same food, and participate in all activities together. There are no persons of privilege and no second class citizens. We are a community that practices embraces a common purpose in Jesus Christ.Experiential Learning. Experience is life's best teacher. Young men are taught many things in theory, but rarely implement those lessons in the context of real life. Experiential learning occurs when human beings are placed in real life situations that demand a response. In order to promote experiential learning, RIP'd 4 Life will create age appropriate activities where experiential learning can occur. There is no set curriculum or content, participants discover what needs to be discovered and those learning experiences are not soon forgotten.Holistic Holiness. Holiness is about having right relationships and pursuing “wholeness.” The “inner man” seeking a right relationship with God is the basis for right relations with others. Once a right relationship is established with God, right relationships can be developed with others, the world we live in and our own bodies. RIP'd 4 Life is interested in the “whole” person (Mind, body and soul) and our activities will reflect the whole being of a person.Jesus not masculinity. Definitions of manhood are wide and varied. Instead of using gender stereotypes and cultural values to inform young men about what they should become, we default to Jesus. We have no indication from scripture that Jesus came to earth for the purpose of modeling manhood. As such, we do not say he is the perfect male, we say he is the perfect human being and his perfect life saves us from ourselves making it possible to be transformed into the image of God. Therefore, we resist narrow definitions of what a man is (e.g., the stronger sex, dominant, etc.). We do not say things like “Man-up,” “Grow-up,” “Be a man,” etc. As a community, we endeavor to be transformed into the likeness of Christ and this requires the embodiment of virtues such as humility, courage, justice, mercy and forgiveness. Our main objective is to seek godliness and the masculine thing will take care of itself. That is not to say traditionally masculine things do not happen at our camps & retreats (sporting competitions, brotherhood, etc.), it is to say our perspective on those things is different and what we do is filtered through the lens of Christ-likeness
We have had a couple of recent episodes, which you should check out if you haven't already, on the LCO Good Life Camp. This camp, while an amazing experience on its own, is part of a larger grant we are working on with the LCO Tribal Child Support program. The grant is focused on responsible parenting and economic mobility. The underlying theme of the grant is the idea that by teaching young people about their own culture, we can improve these outcomes for them as they become adults. There is obviously a lot more to it than that… and that's where our guest comes in. Today we welcome Dr. Nell Weber. Nell is a consultant and researcher with experience in parenting, parental beliefs, early childhood education, literacy, language acquisition, global citizenship, and international education. She earned her Doctorate in Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and now makes her home in Charlottesville, Virginia. We talk about her research on parenting both in the US and internationally, and how that background led her to our project. We discuss the impact of culture in parenting, and why this is such a key component of our project.
Part 2 of our series on the Good Life Camp features Andy Bachmann. One of our partners in this endeavor was Camp Highlands in Sayner Wisconsin. Andy is the third generation in his family to serve as the Camp Director at Camp Highlands, and he has been at camp as a camper, counselor and Director every summer for most of his life. When not in Sayner, Andy serves as Minister for Education, Outreach and Justice at the United Church of Gainesville, in Gainsville, Florida. In this episode we get Andy's thoughts on how the mission of the camp worked so well with the mission of the Good Life project, and reflects on the impact this had on him and his staff, and what he sees for the future of this program. Don't forget to check out the previous episode and watch for more on the Good Life Camp, and the Good Life project coming soon.
This is the first in our multi episode series about the Good Life Grant, and the Culture Camp. This summer Lac Courte Oreilles Child Support Services (LCO CSS) launched its first ever cultural camp for youth. The camp is part of The Good Life Vision project, which brings LCO CSS together with community partners to preserve, strengthen, and renew Ojibwe values in the LCO youth by providing opportunities to learn about the culture's history, values, and practices to support Good Life parenting and reduce the negative effects of generations of cultural trauma. The LCO Cultural Camp is one of the many programs in the works this year to develop culturally relevant and long-sustainable curricula and other tools for middle school, high school, and college students and young parents. On this episode of the News from Peak's podcast, Melinda McKevitt-Isham, who was the lead from the LCO CSS office, shares her perspectives on the goals of the camp with us, how it turned out, discuss with us lessons learned, and the impact she has already seen on the youth and the community at large, and hopes to build on in the future.

In June of 2021 Christianity Today released a podcast called The Rise and Fall of Mars Hill. The show details the story of Mars Hill, a now defunct mega church in Seattle. The show talked about a group of leaders at the church that took a stand despite enormous cost. This group is often referred to as "The Noble Nine." One of those nine was Ryan Welsh.Ryan is currently the pastor of Restoration Church in Southlake, Texas. He has a PhD in Ethics and Philosophy and a Doctorate of Ministry in Preaching. He's an author, professor, and lecturer. In Ryan's senior year of high school though, none of that would have seemed possible. He suffered with depression, anxiety, and a sense that nothing mattered. This is the story of how God used depression, the prayers of a mom, and a Young Life camp to show Ryan that Jesus is what makes life matter. It is also the story of how that realization turned him into a noble servant of God.Ryan on TwitterRyan's Sermons Chad Harms on InstagramTestimonyPodcast.comDonate to the Show

On the CBS News Weekend Roundup with host Allison Keyes, new CDC data finds that the Delta variant is much more contagious than experts previously thought, and could spread as quickly as chicken pox. The report has prompted the agency to urge vaccinated people to wear masks indoors where coronavirus rates are high. Allison is joined by infectious disease expert Dr. Virginia Banks with the Northeast Ohio Infectious Disease Associates. CBS's Nancy Cordes has the latest on President Biden's new rules for federal workers, and the eviction moratorium. Stunning news out of Tokyo as gold medal winning Olympian Simon Biles dropped out of both the team and individual all-around competitions, to protect her mental health. Dominique Dawes, the first Black gymnast to win Olympic gold, tells "CBS This Morning," she knows what Biles is going through. As CBS's Steve Futterman explains to Allison from Tokyo, Biles' decision has sparked a new understanding about pressure. CBS's Jim Krasula reports on about a former colleague who went viral over the Olympics. Gun violence has been growing amid the Covid-19 pandemic. In April, the Biden Administration announced it will pledge $ 5 (B) billion dollars for violence prevention programs, like LIFE Camp. CBS's Dr. Tara Narula looks at the non-profit, co-founded by Erica Ford. In this week's Kaleidoscope, we discuss the future of space tourism. Billionaires Jeff Bezos and Richard Branson launched missions to the edge of space. Passengers along for the ride paid out of this world prices ranging from tens of millions to a quarter of a million dollars. Will the price ever go down? Allison speaks with astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson at the American Museum of Natural History about this and other burning topics, including UFO's. In the American West, wild horses have roamed for centuries. CBS's Chip Reid introduces us to a woman on a mission to protect them. The world is saying goodbye to a legend. Dominican merengue musician Johnny Ventura died suddenly Wednesday after a heart attack. CBS' Deborah Rodriguez has a remembrance. The CDC is advising universal masking for schools regardless of the vaccination status of staff, teachers and students. Washington, DC mom Kyra Szanto tells Allison that's great for her 9-year-old daughter who has been having a tough time. Finally, mental health is on the minds of many this week, and CBS's Jeff Pegues had an Instagram Live conversation with CBS's Jericka Duncan about a very personal issue after they were on a panel together.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

How NYC's first Black mayor tried to balance concerns about public safety with demands for a more accountable police force -- and the violent resistance he faced from the police union. Under the Dinkins administration, the crime rate declined, but his complex relationship with the New York Police Department - which grew in size under his tenure - often overshadows his legacy. As voting is underway for the 2021 mayoral race, our senior editor Christopher Werth tells the story of Dinkins's attempt to balance crime fighting and racial justice, and of a police union reaction that looked a lot like the January 6th attack on the U.S. capital. Also, activist Erica Ford, who is the CEO and Founder of LIFE Camp, Inc., joins to talk about community-based solutions to public safety and expectations of our elected officials. What will it take for New Yorkers to feel safe? Companion listening for this episode: How NYPD ‘Kettled' the Spirit of Reform (5/24/2021) New Yorkers reacted to George Floyd's murder with mass protests demanding police accountability. NYPD met them with targeted violence and abuse. Why Cops Don't Change (4/19/2021) A retired NYPD detective says the force's stubborn, insular culture was built to last. And Elie Mystal explains a 1989 Supreme Court ruling that made killing “reasonable.” “The United States of Anxiety” airs live on Sunday evenings at 6pm ET. Scott talks to yoga teacher and educator Eddie Stern about his early life as a seeker of yoga and how the deeply spiritual aspects of his life evolved through his impact with India and hindu temples. Scott has known Eddie since 2014 and has co-hosted him in the UK twice. Both times Eddie performed Puja’s at the workshops and these were deeply moving rituals. Scott talks to Eddie about the evolution of this side of his teaching and practice. Also in the conversation Eddie and Scott talk about: teaching online; non-physical aspects of yoga; samskaras and how they shape our actions; the relationship between science and ritual; how understanding the tools of yoga can let us use them more effectively; his decision to change how he teaches; and, the pain caused by the sexual abuse comitted by Pattabhi Jois. We’d like to invite you to join our growing Stillpoint Online Ashtanga Yoga and Mindfulness community. We live stream beginner classes, Ashtanga Yoga assisted self practice and guided classes with evening mindfulness sessions over 6 days with Scott Johnson and the Stillpoint teaching faculty. Join us as Pastor Jeremy shares the message given to our youth while at the Word of Life Camp in Florida.
In one of the most moving and soul-stirring conversations we've had, Earl and Anna sat down with Edwin Raymond, a lieutenant for the New York Police Department and Jafarri Williams-Fox, a hospital responder with LIFE Camp. Edwin Raymond is known for his HULU Documentary Crime and Punishment, regarding the NYPD12 taking on the NYPD's illegal quota system. What does it mean to be Black and Blue? What does it mean to advocate for Black lives as a law enforcement officer? Jafarri is a member of LIFE Camp, an organization dedicated to developing youth and community leaders to work with the private and public sectors to create safe and healthy neighborhoods. They reduce teen gun violence, develop healthy communities, and strong leaders. It's no understatement to say that we sat down with two real-life superheroes. Two Black men putting their lives and bodies on the line each day for the sake of Black lives. It's because, at every step of the way, Our People Are Worth It.
In our final episode of season 2, we discuss spiritual wellness with Chris and Amanda Hughes. Chris & Amanda are parents, the directors at Springs of Life Camp, and most importantly, followers of Christ.
Adam and his camp leaders discuss and share stories from camp!

Black and brown communities have borne the brunt of gun violence for decades. But when it comes to the national debate about gun safety or gun violence prevention, their efforts have largely been overlooked. Now that new constituencies have come to the table, how do we make sure POC don’t just have a seat, but a real voice? Guests: Kayla Hicks, Director of African-American & Community Outreach for the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV); Reverend Jeffrey Brown, Baptist minister and President of Rebuilding Every Community Around Peace (RECAP); Anthony Smith, Executive Director of Cities United; and AU Hogan, Associate Director and Chief of Streets for Life Camp.
Skip, Daniel and I talk about how they got into podcasting, the great advice they provide on their show, camp stories and more Facebook Twitter Instagram The Outdoor Biz Podcast Please give us a rating and review HERE Show Notes First Exposure to the Outdoors Skip- My first experience with the outdoors was in the backyard with my dad. It was a really nice spring or summer evening, a very clear sky, lots of stars in the sky. And we just laid there, not on sleeping bags, but we had blankets and our pillows and we just laid there. And it was a great father-son experience. We just enjoyed the outdoors. We talked, we fell asleep and I think I was about 12 years old at that time. But that was my very first exposure to the outdoors and ever since that day, I've loved every minute of it. Daniel- I like to say that I was camping before I was born. My parents used to take this big old tent down to this state park in Georgia called FDR state park. And they would set up their tent and camp. There are a few pictures of my mom when she was pregnant with me. But once I came around you'll see pictures of me and my little crib and stuff over by the Lake. And we w we would go there every spring, I think I learned to ride my bike there. I would always be running off into the back trails into the woods. I would just like going into the woods. I always felt like, Oh, I could go down this path and maybe there's something, I don't know, like, a pot of gold. Y'all, we did it. We managed to travel thousands of miles to another country to usher 24 kids into one of the greatest weeks of their lives. And I truly cannot imagine doing it with a more perfect group of people. We laughed, cried, prayed, danced, jumped into the ocean, listened, got pied in the face, ate dessert at every meal, and witnessed 24 kids catch a vision of Who He sees in them. In this episode we talk about how we got to Malibu, both as leaders and travel logistics, the structure of camp, our PHENOMENAL camp speaker, favorite parts, hardest parts, and why we're hanging out with our kids every day for a week after. I love these people deeply, and am reverently thankful He didn't design us to do this work alone.

Today's Guest: Joe Murray, animation creator, "Rocko's Modern Life," "Camp Lazlo" Mr. Media is recorded live before a studio audience of two-dimensional, banana-mouthed warthogs in the new new media capital of the world and home of the best team in baseball… St. Petersburg, Florida! Order from Amazon.com by clicking the book cover above Joe Murray has a natural flair for animation and characters that are bursting with... character. But between you and me—and I gotta be honest here—he is also responsible for creating some of the ugliest cartoon characters in history. Have you ever really looked at Rocko, the star of his original Nickelodeon hit, Rocko’s Modern Life? What is that? And Lazlo—OMG! But his cartoons look great, despite the somewhat hideous characters, and kids love them. I know this first hand; my almost 14-year-old daughter to this day insists she is Camp Lazlo’s #1 fan. Order 'Rocko's Modern Life: The Complete Series' by Joe Murray, available from Amazon.com by clicking on the DVD boxed set above! JOE MURRAY audio excerpt: "I have never been introduced before by talking about the hideousness of my characters! Rocko and Lazlo are my children! But the characters are all about imperfections." Murray, the creator of all this madness, just published a fascinating book called Creating Animated Cartoons with Character: A Guide to Developing and Producing Your Own Series for TV, the Web, and Short Film. Even if you’re not a wannabe animated but just a fan of the art, you’ll find plenty to read about here. The book is packed with practical information, behind-the-scenes anecdotes, rare production sketches and Q&As with an array of familiar animators, from Craig McCracken, creator of The Powerpuff Girls and Dexter’s Laboratory to the creator and voice of SpongeBob Squarepants, respectively, Steve Hillenberg and Tom Kenny. Speaking of Kenny, we'll give a listen to Murray and Kenny at work on a new series they’re developing for KaBoingTV.com, Frog in a Suit. We’ll also have an actual sneak preview from Frog in a Suit in the second half of today’s show.
