Another fun week of James and Amy! Following Halloween, James and Amy shared their mission of Halloween costumes and handing out Halloween candy. Kicking off this week's episode, DATTOCON missed out an opportunity for press and hype.  From lack of a major announcement, there is a PR opportunity missed.  --- 1.) MSP Question of the week:  How can you hold your team accountable? Business coaches are being hired all across the country due to a lack of accountability. Instead, James and Amy share some insightful areas to strengthen your accountability with your team: Set goals with your team on a set cadence either daily or weekly Create expectations in writing with your team. Utilizing meetings, such as a daily huddle, can be a great opportunity to do a checkin with the team and leadership. Enhanced communication is effective accountability. Accountability is not conflict, instead, accountability is effective communication. Train your employees. Without proper training, it is difficult to hold employees accountable. --- 2.) The findings of a recent report highlight the challenges faced by C-suite executives regarding aging IT systems amidst a surge in AI adoption. While 90% of executives believe their technology is top-notch, nearly two-thirds acknowledge that outdated infrastructure poses significant issues, with many critical IT systems nearing the end of their life cycle. The report also reveals that although 75% of organizations are investing in AI and machine learning, less than half report a positive return on investment, raising concerns about cyber attack preparedness among executives. The episode also delves into a growing trend of cloud repatriation, as organizations grapple with unexpected costs and performance issues in cloud environments. A recent IDC report indicates that 50% of companies spent more on cloud services than anticipated, prompting some to transition specific workloads back in-house. The case of SaaS company 37Signals, which plans to save $10 million over five years by moving away from cloud services, exemplifies this trend. Sobel emphasizes the importance of differentiating between various levels of AI adoption, noting that many organizations may only be conducting small-scale experiments rather than full-scale implementations.Host Dave Sobel highlights the rising threat of voice-based AI scams, referencing a study from the University of Illinois that demonstrates how OpenAI's ChatGPT-4 can be exploited for financial scams with success rates between 20% to 60%. Additionally, he discusses a new threat campaign where hackers impersonate IT support on Microsoft Teams, urging organizations to implement training programs to raise awareness of evolving social engineering threats. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has also issued warnings about a large-scale spear-phishing campaign targeting federal executives, emphasizing the need for protective measures. Finally, the episode covers significant developments in automation and AI within the managed services sector, particularly at DattoCon, where Kaseya projected that up to 70% of repetitive tasks performed by managed service providers will be automated by 2026. Sobel also discusses Runway's innovative AI tool that customizes outreach to potential clients, reflecting a broader trend of leveraging AI to optimize sales processes. The episode concludes with a discussion on the general availability of Windows Server 2025, which introduces significant advancements and is positioned as a robust solution for on-premises and hybrid cloud deployments. Four things to know today00:00 Kyndryl Report Reveals Struggle with Aging IT as AI Adoption Soars but ROI Falls Short, Fueling Demand for Service Support04:18 Voice-Based AI Scams Rise as Study Shows ChatGPT Vulnerability; New Tactics on Microsoft Teams and Spear Phishing Surge06:20 At DattoCon, Kaseya Emphasizes Automation as Core to MSP Efficiency, Parallel to Runway's AI-Enhanced Sales Tactics08:50 Microsoft Launches Windows Server 2025 with Hybrid Enhancements as KnowBe4 Unveils New Security Training Post-Breach  Supported by:  https://www.huntress.com/mspradio/https://mspradio.com/engage/    All our Sponsors: https://businessof.tech/sponsors/ Do you want the show on your podcast app or the written versions of the stories?

The company offers a two-factor authentication and password management solution specifically designed for MSPs, MSSPs and VARs.  Chris worked in multiple MSP businesses as a service manager, a technical director, and a Director of Product Strategy. He also founded the Totally MSP website and worked as the former Business Development Director at Datto.  He's also a long-time member of CompTIA, the UK channel community, and currently serves on the Executive Council. In 2020, he was the CompTIA UK Spotlight award winner.  They talk about how MYKI works, why they don't store any passwords anywhere, even in the cloud and which platforms it works on. Chris also explains the consequences of bad password management.  Chris also talks through deploying the tool to multiple client sites, reconfiguring MYKI to protect your data, the MFA and Guard features, and why all managed service providers should use a password manager themselves.  Mentioned in This Episode https://www.dattocon.com/ (DattoCon) https://www.lastpass.com/ (Last Pass) https://keepass.info/ (KeePass) https://www.n-able.com/ (N-able RMM) Google Authenticator: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.authenticator2&hl=en_GB&gl=US (Android) and https://apps.apple.com/us/app/google-authenticator/id388497605 (iOS) https://authy.com/ (Authy) https://support.myki.com/en/ (MYKI resources) https://myki.com/free-tools/password-generator (MYKI Password Generator) https://myki.com/free-tools/was-i-hacked (MYKI Hack Checker) https://www.tubblog.co.uk/techtribe/ (The Tech Tribe)

Abstract: CIS Control 3 is Data Protection and data is pretty much what's at stake for a high percentage of cyber attacks.  Data is more valuable than oil and it fuels many organizations.   Many of the baseline security recommendations from all of the security frameworks out there now recommend, or REQUIRE if you're in a regulated industry such as healthcare, that certain things like full disk encryption are simply put into place no matter your risk profile.  Much of what's in the Data Protection Control represents the modern reality of cybersecurity.Note: we split up Data Protection into two shorter podcasts (about 20 minutes each) and therefore, you will see a "part 1 & part 2". Part 2 focuses in depth into CIS Control 3 and the Safeguards 3 - 7 (formerly called sub controls).Co-hosts in part 2 are: Ryan Weeks, CISO of Datto and Wes Spencer, CISO of Perch Security.Ryan Weeks: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ryanweeks/Wes Spencer: https://www.linkedin.com/in/wesspencer/Sponsor: Datto - https://www.datto.com/Rob Rae, SVP of Business Development: https://www.linkedin.com/in/robtrae/DattoCon: https://seattle.dattocon.com/

It's always great to catch up with my old friend Vince Tinnirello. Vince Tinnirello Vince is the Managing Director of Anchor Network Solutions, a Denver-based managed IT service provider, founded in 2002. He is the immediate past Chair of the CompTIA Managed Services Community, and very passionate about the IT Services industry and the service Anchor delivers to its clients. Vince lives in the foothills of Denver, and when not working enjoys skiing, climbing, mountain biking and golf. He recently completed his goal to summit all of Colorado’s 55 mountains above 14,000 feet and to ski in Japan. After spending many years with Marriott, Vince moved to the IT industry and realized that lots of technicians aren't very good with the personal side of business. So he went to work training and guiding his employees to support his brand. Vince tells a great story about climbing all the major mountain peaks in Colorado (some more than once). Of course that leads to a discussion of relaxing your brain and recharging your batteries. Vince is also a big advocate (and member) of Peer Groups. Even with a three million dollar business, Vince finds value in meeting with other business owners to talk about their challenges and victories. Here he talks about the peer session tracks that he manages for DattoCon. In general, we have a fun conversation about client engagement, employee management, and peer level relationships.
