Talking with author, Jasun Horsley, on navigating the first and second Matrix, mirror neurons and telepathic messages, goats and autonomy, spiritual seeking and self-invention, the pitfalls of psychedelics, Castaneda and the shamanic path, the challenges of building groups, conspiratainment and discernment, the search for authentic connection, the art of writing as a tool for connecting to the soul, the tensions of identity and integration, autism as lens for deeper substrata, Dostoevsky and embodying the psyche, the limits of knowledge and the beauty of not knowing, the bi-directionality of communication, making the ethereal tangible, sending beacons of lightness in the dark ocean of human experience, the Manuopticon, Children of Job, clearing the bush on the pathless path and more.Excerpts “Changing the world is, to me, is a red herring and a really bad idea, the desire to change it. I don't see any evidence that the world changes. I think it just proceeds along certain tracks” “The thing about discernment is, as I've said a number of times recently, You don't need to believe anything in order to know what to do…Like we can guided by something other than belief. And that would then include knowledge. Because knowledge is, a lot of knowledge is belief. There's some knowledge that's not.” “If I find the right words, I will actually kind of midwife that insight into conscious awareness….I'm trying to make something unconscious conscious using language to do it.”“ If we want to know ourselves, it's not enough just to study ourselves, you know, self examination, said Socrates, but that's not, that's not sufficient for knowing oneself. Right? We need to actually be seen by others and then see what others are seeing in us by the dialogues.“Having a dialogue with one's soul isn't just about writing or talking to oneself. It's about talking to others and connecting to others at a deep level so that they will mirror back to us the state of our soul or the phase that our souls are in or whatever our souls are trying to let into our awareness or bring into our awareness. That's all, that all depends on some sort of group dynamic.““ I'm trying to send out beacons…fire beacons into the sky and hope that somebody who's out there floating on the dark ocean… shipwrecked, will see it and swim in this direction.”Interview Time Stamps:* 00:26 IntroductionIntroducing Jasun Horsley and the themes of spiritual seeking, writing, and navigating deeper realities.* 05:21 Preserving the Future and ProjectsJasun discusses his “Land Made Man” project in Galicia and the importance of creating spaces for refuge and connection.* 11:43 Spiritual Path and Writing JourneyFrom shamanism to work in the “real world”, Jasun traces his spiritual and creative evolution.* 22:41 The Second Matrix and Spiritual SeekingExamining the traps of spiritual seeking and the illusion of escaping societal conditioning.* 26:15 Early Wake-Up Calls and Castaneda's InfluenceJasun recounts his first transformative experiences and their connection to Castaneda's teachings.* 37:30 Discernment and Belief SystemsJasun discusses the importance of skepticism and the dangers of misplaced beliefs.* 45:43 Conspiratainment and DistractionsExploring the allure and pitfalls of conspiracy theories and their role in modern culture.* 01:14:53 Autism and PerceptionThe link between autism and deeper, more open engagement with reality.* 01:30:03 Sending Beacons - Challenges of Social ConnectionThe struggle to find authentic connections and the hope of finding kindred souls.* 01:46:44 The Role of MentorshipDiscussing the complexities of mentoring and the evolving dynamic between mentor and mentee.* 01:50:11 Filmmaking, Groups, Future ProjectsJasun reflects on his film The Light of Dead Stars, the joy of teamwork, and aspirations for creative collaborations.Links:* Children of Job by Jasun Horsley* Books by Jasun HorsleyOpening Song: "Freight Train" by Elizabeth Cotten / Cover by Aaron Sheppard Get full access to Leafbox at leafbox.substack.com/subscribe

Even agencies featuring on the list, including Thinkerbell, appear to be asking themselves whether it's a good idea to be there.Thinkerbell was among the agencies highly placed. CEO Margie Reid, who is also a director of Support The Girls Australia, took to LinkedIn over the weekend to distance her agency from the ranking, writing: “Thinkerbell has not paid, created or had any part to play in the list that appeared in the latest edition of the Campaign Brief magazine or the BestAds ranking list. Nor were we contacted when the list was published.”Creative Jet Swain put it more succinctly yesterday: “Shame on you Campaign Brief. Nothing has changed in the three decades I've witnessed this blatant misogyny. Your NZ lists had no women, and Australia only has Tara Ford.”Also in today's podcast: AI can bring dead actors back to life; but should it?; Coles and Woolworths have seen tangible brand damage from the ACCC prosecution new data from Roy Morgan Research shows; and Southern Cross Austereo is accused of ‘mocking' its local TV news obligations.Further reading* LinkedIn: Thinkerbell's Margie Reid on the Campaign Brief sexism row* LinkedIn: Darren Woolley of Trinity P3 on the Campaign Brief sexism row* LinkedIn: Jet Swain accuses Campaign Brief of misogyny* Australian Financial Review: Think you know that voice? In this episode, we'll examine the Burmese Women of the Khit Kala, the women of the times, the “It girls” of colonial Burma. Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we add another bonus to our series on Metroid Prime with an interview with Jack Mathews, a technical lead on the title. We cover a lot of ground in this one, folks, which is appropriate for a Metroid game. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. Podcast breakdown: 1:10 Interview 1:03:17 Break 1:03:53 Outro Issues covered: scanning for IP addresses, supporting QuakeWorld, bored by anything but coding, the Wild West, the Dallas studio, feeling like a Nintendo series, similarities between the glide renderer and the GameCube hardware, a central technology group, arriving to a bit of a mess, a lot of lost undirected work, taking veteran console first person success and turning MetaForce into it, cancelling titles, unhappy marriages, starting on day one, building data streaming, hardware meant for streaming, pattern AI, dynamically modifying for performance, working on a world editor, "you know, a duck," building practical things, there being a lot of fans, bucking against doing first-person, limitations of the controller, working towards accessibility on the controller, having to be 60 and having to stay there, optimizing for the worst case to avoid a hitchy mess, avoiding performance traps in specular and bump mapping, being unable to choke the memory pipelines, throwing up flashing if you went under 60 ever, taking something away to justify anything else, software is a gas that will expand, limiting the content rather than expecting technical wizardry, testing Nintendo's demos, faking specular, being consistent and polished, having a sytem rather than scriptosaurus rex, planners and not designers, limitations, being a bad engineer or a bad artist, knowing where you fit, seeing the constraints in the game, Tim's crisis of faith, Love and Lemons plug!, targeting games where we know people, giving people constraints, relying on designers too much to accomplish goals, embracing constraints. Having touched upon it briefly in the Book of Boba Fett Episode 7 breakdown, I gotta say, I don't think Cad Bane is dead. In the book of Boba Fett finale, cad bane was killed super fast by Boba Fett, in a spin of events he threw him on his feet with his Gaffi stick and thrusted the tail end of it into Cad's chest. I just don't think Dave Filoni would bring back this huge animated character only to give him the most lame death in two seconds. We were left with Boba walking away and Cad Bane's vest beeping like a bomb were about to go off. This, I believe, is his transponder to his droid to come and pick him up. Bane has survived his shot to the head from Boba in the unreleased clone wars episode, which is also how Boba got the dent in his helmet. This is why Cad had that metal plate on his head in the show, and for us animated Star Wars fans, we've seen that plate. I highly recommend watching the clone wars, rebels, and the bad batch to really understand all these characters. So what I think will happen, is Cad Bane gets picked up by his droid, Todo 360, who puts him in his ship and then either throws him in a Bacta tank or flies him to someone who can heal him. His tubes also allow him to breathe via the pipe going into his throat, so it's possible that while his lungs might be punctured from Boba, he's able to breathe from the mechanics of his tubes. Now if you didn't know, Bane has these so that he can prevent being force choked by Jedi. The tube in his throat doesn't allow his trachea to close when being force choked, which makes him impervious to that kind of devastating attack. So his life could also be sustained by those tubes. I believe we will see him again, I don't think this is the end for him. The push in shot we got of his beeping vest really alludes to his return and that he's not really dead. I think for season 2 we could see Cad Bane return with a more powerful enemy, maybe a crime syndicate which was something that George Lucas was planning to incorporate into his sequel trilogy with the Hutts and Crimson Dawn and beyond. If you want to learn more about that, check my video out with all the proof and evidence from George's mouth himself, of his sequel trilogy. I believe we may be getting more to Boba in the next season, which I assume we'll get based on Ming Na Wen's post regarding season 1, which makes me think we're getting a book of Boba Fett season 2. We're continuing our deep dive into the Manila Carnival, a two-week festival held during the early American colonial period which culminated in the crowning of the queen and her court at an elaborate formal ball. In the next few episodes, we're taking a deep dive into the Manila Carnival, a two-week festival held during the early American colonial period which culminated in the crowning of the queen and her court at an elaborate formal ball. For 31 years, young women from across the country vied for the title, navigating racial prejudice and standards of beauty, and becoming an integral part of the nation-building process. This is Part One: The Queen of the Orient, 1908, which talks about the origins of the festival and the first queen, Pura Villanueva Kalaw. We are firmly in the era of artificial intelligence, which means we have technology to digitally resurrect dead artists for new projects – but does that mean we should?
Brent Spiner (Star Trek, Independence Day) joins us this week to drop some bombs about a certain someone's return from the dead in Picard Season 3. Vulpecula, the fox, doesn't have a lot of impressive stars. But it sure has a lot of impressive dead ones. That's where astronomers discovered the first neutron star — which also happened to be the first pulsar. And a few years ago, it's where they discovered the first fast radio burst in our home galaxy — an object that's also a neutron star. A neutron star is the corpse of a massive star that exploded as a supernova. The star's core collapsed to just a few miles across, but it's more massive than the Sun. The first neutron star was discovered in Vulpecula in 1967. It was emitting regular “pulses” of radio waves as it spun on its axis. So it was called a pulsar. Some pulsars steal gas from normal companion stars, which makes them spin up to hundreds of times per second. The first of those was discovered in Vulpecula as well. And in 2020, another neutron star there suddenly produced short bursts of radio waves that didn't sync up with how fast it spins — the first sighting of such an event in the Milky Way. A recent study says it was a result of an outburst of charged particles. The star generates an extremely powerful magnetic field. A disruption in the field likely generated the “volcano” of particles. That slowed the star's rotation by a tiny bit, producing the radio bursts — and another interesting “dead” star in Vulpecula. In this episode, we're going to talk about the many lives of Emiria Sunassa, a pioneer of Indonesian modern art, who was also a nurse, singer, pianist, and traveler, who claimed to be a princess of the Tidore sultanate. Emiria was one of only three female artists in Persatuan Ahli Gambar Indonesia (PERSAGI). The other two were Saptarita Latif and Tridjoto Abdullah. However, in contrast to the two other women artists, Emiria started painting individually. She was not linked to any nationalist movements before she became involved with art. PERSAGI's nationalistic vigour came from an unmistakably masculine perspective; most of the paintings represented common subject matter: self-portraitures, still-lifes and, most importantly, the portrayal of the Indonesian people during and after the revolutionary period - and yet they were limited to the island of Java. Emiria's choice of subject matter offered a different perspective of the new nation. - Dr Wulan Dirgantoro in Feminisms and Contemporary Art in Indonesia If you want to join the Patreon, you can give as little as $1 to get a copy of the show notes with all the references, a shout out at the end of the next episode, and access to bonus episodes. Join Fazale “Fuz” Rana and Jeff Zweerink as they discuss new discoveries taking place at the frontiers of science that have theological and philosophical implications, including the reality of God's existence. Neanderthal Brains, Redux Are human beings exceptional? Recent work by a large collaborative team from the Max Planck Institute in Leipzig, Germany, explores this question by examining the behavior of the TKLT-1 protein in archaic and modern humans. This discovery points to differences in brain development in modern humans and Neanderthals, suggesting cognitive differences between the two. However, a suite of experiments over the past five decades demonstrates that both properties can't be true in the world of quantum mechanics. We'll describe the experiments that establish this remarkable conclusion as well as the implications for the science/faith discussion. Reference: Nobel Prize: Quantum Entanglement Unveiled
