Welcome to Sacred Restorations, a limited series on the SSPX Podcast highlighting the beautiful work being done across the U.S. District. In this episode, we travel to Denver, Colorado, where a new novitiate of the Consoling Sisters is taking root. Fr. Paul Robinson is joined by Mother Maria Rita and Sister Mary Veronica to tell the remarkable story of their congregation, founded in Italy in 1961 by Fr. Basilio Rosati, a Passionist priest devoted to the Passion of Our Lord and the consolation of the Sacred Heart. The Sisters recount their early years of poverty, apostolic work, their perseverance through the crisis in the Church, and the providential path that eventually brought them into contact with Fr. Emmanuel du Chalard and the Society of Saint Pius X. It is a story of fidelity, hidden sacrifice, and the quiet restoration of religious life. The SSPX Podcast is produced by Angelus Press, which has as its mission the fortification of traditional Catholics so that they can defend the Faith, and reaching out to those who have not yet found Tradition. – – – – – – What is the SSPX? The main goal of the Society of Saint Pius X is to preserve the Catholic Faith in its fullness and purity, to teach its truths, and to diffuse its virtues, especially through the Roman Catholic priesthood. Authentic spiritual life, the sacraments, and the traditional liturgy are its primary means of bringing this life of grace to souls. Although the traditional Latin Mass is the most visible and public expression of the work of the Society, we are committed to defending Catholic Tradition in its entirety: all of Catholic doctrine and morals as the Church has always defended them. After their entire Gigaton tour was postponed in 2020, 2022 was finally time where the band felt like it was safe to travel with precautions as we slowly found our way out of the Covid global pandemic. In taking this chance proved risks with a major downside - key players in the band and crew could be exposed to the illness. Unfortunately, that's what happened on the west coast as Matt Cameron had to miss three shows, and once Jeff Ament went down, the band had to pull the plug on two shows in Sacramento and Las Vegas. Then on the European tour, nearby wildfires in France effected Ed's ability to sing which meant three of those shows were also canceled. But the final leg in September thankfully went to plan, and this show in Denver was the final night of a tumultuous, yet rewarding year. In this episode, we'll discuss some of the on the fly changes that the band dealt with at the time regarding setlist structure, staying within a bubble and utilizing more breaks for Ed to take time to rest. This show has a lot of great key elements that you love from tour closers, big singalongs, strong explosive performances from the best songs in your catalog, and a little bit of reflection on what this year has meant to the band. This one is especially more celebrated because of the trials and tribulations that took them through the bumpy ride of the year. But a chapter was closed in the best way possible - giving the fans a show to never forget. Also, we'll chat about social distancing concerts in 2020, a killer Interstellar Overdrive intro and an impressive 20-song main set in the rocky mountain altitude. On a Friday edition of Hot Takes, Eric Goodman and Bruce Haertl discuss if the Nuggets have been operating like a team who is determined to stay below the second apron. If the Nuggets do enter the second apron, how much will that encourage Jokic to sign his extension? Is Denver delusional if they think they can win a championship “running it back” with this same roster? Plus, with Cale Makar's contract extension on the horizon, will he try and max out his dollars or pull a Tom Brady move and take a little less money? Eric and Bruce get into it all on a Friday episode of Hot Takes! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. It's officially summer in the Mile High City, and for many Denverites that means it's time to high-tail it to the nearest shady spot on the bank of a mountain creek. But what if instead of escaping our day-to-day lives, we Denverites were escaping a horde of bloodthirsty zombies? Would that shady spot offer good defenses? Provisions? And what about the long-term chances for survival? Denver Business Journal reporter Catie Cheshire joined producers Paul Karolyi and Olivia Jewell Love last year to swap notes and talk through our survival strategies for a zombie apocalypse in Denver. This episode first aired on Aug. 6, 2025. We discuss Catie's report on Coors Field for Westword as the inspiration for this episode, and Paul mentioned Catie's excellent recent report on the business leaders asking whether now is the time to demolish office buildings downtown. Olivia talked about Ark Tactical in Lakewood. Paul discussed nuclear missile silos. Who brought the best survival plan — Catie, Olivia or Paul? Also, we want to know who you'd team up with. Or are you going it alone somewhere else entirely? We want to hear from you! We are finally at peak daylight and the Summer Solstice–which officially takes place June 21st this year. Summer speaks of garden parties and holidays at the beach, or lake, by rivers, or in the mountains. Summer speaks directly to our connection to the wild places we love and perhaps long for– and which, through our gardens, can be right here at home. SummerHome Garden in Denver, CO, is a playful and powerful twist on the idea that our gardens can be our summer homes. Lisa Negri of SummerHome Garden joins us this week to share more. Listen in! Cultivating Place now has a donate button! We thank you for listening over the years, and we hope you'll continue to support Cultivating Place. In hour 4 of The Memorial Day edition of The Drive, John Davis and Chad Andrus continue to dive into the Nuggets and Avalanche playoff disappointments this year. Are the Nuggets in a position to overhaul their roster to compete in the modern NBA? Is Denver still a destination for players around the NBA with Jokic as the fulcrum? Has Joe Sakic's playstyle from his NHL days led this Avalanche team to being too fast and skilled and not putting enough of an emphasis on toughness and defense? Is there any hope the Avalanche can mount a comeback from down 3-0 in the Western Conference Final? What do we need to see in Game 4 from the Avs to start believing? Are the Avalanche the "better" team in the series or just the more talented team? We wrap up the show comparing this Avs team to other teams in sports history with a high-flying offense that couldn't get it done in the playoffs.
Mayor Johnston promised to solve unsheltered homelessness in his first term – nearly three years into it, there are still questions about the success of this costly and ambitious plan. Denverite reporter Kyle Harris recently published two stories highlighting the complexities of the Mile High City's homeless issue, and he joins host Bree Davies to discuss the conundrum of a woman living in her car in the Washington Park neighborhood and the fate of a weekly free meal and meet-up serving unhoused people in front of the City and County Building. The two consider how these stories connect to the bigger conversation about homelessness in Denver in 2026. The 2026 Colorado legislative session is in its final week, so we're looking into the hot-button issue of AI, which continues to divide Democrats. Westword editor-in-chief Patty Calhoun joins host Bree Davies and producer Paul Karolyi to talk about how Colorado's' “first in the nation” regulations, passed in 2024, ended up with a “near-total rewrite” this year, according to the Denver Post. Plus, the Trump administration is coming after Denver again – this time with a lawsuit aimed at overturning the city's ban on assault weapons – so we're talking about where this attack ranks among all the other times Trump has turned his attention toward the Mile High City. And finally, a listener calls in to talk about their first impressions of Veo scooters. For even more news from around the city, subscribe to our morning newsletter at denver.citycast.fm. Little Man Ice Cream just announced plans to start shipping its beloved sweet treats nationwide, inviting the country to get in on Denver-favorite flavors like Salty O, Space Junkie, and more. But this also had us thinking about Colorado's greatest contributions to the national culinary landscape – what are our claims to food fame anyway? Dan Pashman, host of the James Beard Award-Winning podcast The Sporkful, joined host Bree Davies and producer Paul Karolyi last November to discuss the memorable (and regrettable) dishes the Mile High City put on the map. We mention the Sporkful episode Paul produced last year about Beau Jo's and “Colorado-Style Pizza.” For even more news from around the city, subscribe to our morning newsletter at denver.citycast.fm. Washington and the COP conferences get all the headlines, but some of the most creative and effective climate action in the world is emerging from city halls — and Denver's Office of Climate Action is one of the best examples of what's possible. This week, Molly zooms in on the Mile High City as she talks with Chelsea Warren, Marketing and Communications Manager for Denver's Office of Climate Action, Sustainability and Resiliency. Chelsea has spent years building one of the country's most effective city-level climate communications programs, making the case that local government is where climate action gets real.We talk about:Why local government is the frontline of climate action, and why local action matters more than everHow Denver used the rollback of federal climate policies to motivate voters to fund local climate initiatives like solar, e-bike rebates, heat pump programs, and moreUsing the science of behavioral change to effectively promote climate actionGoodwill pop-ups, ice cream collaborations, and other non-traditional ways Denver activated around a climate campaign, and delivered 128 million impressions in the processWhy financial incentives and positive social comparison beat education every time when it comes to motivating climate actionThe perception gap: most people wildly underestimate how many of their neighbors care about climate actionHow effective, human-centered storytelling can combat pessimism and inactionThe co-benefits frame: reaching people through health, savings, and quality of life, not just the environmentLinks:Denver's Office of Climate Action, Sustainability, and Resiliency: https://www.denvergov.org/Government/Agencies-Departments-Offices/Agencies-Departments-Offices-Directory/Climate-Action-Sustainability-and-ResiliencyThe Denver Climate Project: https://www.denvergov.org/Community/Denver-Climate-ProjectAll episodes: https://www.everybodyinthepool.com/Join our Discord! https://discord.gg/2EsDhwQC2zSubscribe to the Everybody in the Pool newsletter: https://www.mollywood.co/Become a member for the ad-free version of the show: https://everybodyinthepool.supercast.com/ Hosted on Acast. Ever since its opening in 1995, the Denver Airport has intrigued travelers with its unique features—from its horse statue known as “Blucifer” to its cryptic dedication plaque, its apocalyptic murals, and its giant tunnels. Over the years they have fueled dozens of conspiracy theories, saying the airport is actually a cover for secret societies, hidden bunkers… and secret military bases.
