February, 2022 will be Magic Keyholder Celebration Month. Disneyland announced the month long celebration of Key Holders happening in the parks, Downtown Disney, and at home! No specific details have been released on what will be offered in February, but we will keep you posted as news is released. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/12/16/disneyland-magic-key-holders-prepare-to-be-celebrated-for-a-whole-month-next-year/ An unhappy Magic Key Holder has filed a lawsuit against Disney for “deceiving it's most loyal fan base by artificially limiting theme park capacity and blocking passholders with ‘no blockout' annual passes from making reservations.” The lawsuit is a $5 million dollar suit filed on behalf of all Disneyland Magic Key holders claiming that Disney “relegated them to ‘second class' ticket holders by artificially limiting Magic Key reservations and the number of passholders that can visit on any given day.” Disneyland has said that they will “vigorously defend our position as the case proceeds.” – https://www.ocregister.com/2021/12/16/disneyland-passholder-lawsuit-alleges-magic-key-deceptively-advertises-no-blockout-dates/ and https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/12/20/disney-responds-to-5-million-magic-key-and-park-reservation-lawsuit/ and https://disneyland.disney.go.com/magic-key-terms-conditions/ When we were in the parks a couple of weeks ago, there were quite a few PhotoPass photographers who were trying to take amazing photos, and control the crowds at the same time. This week, it appears that they have received some help at Sleeping Beauty Castle with rops to direct guests around the optimal PhotoPass photo area. – https://www.micechat.com/310365-disneyland-update-magic-key-lawsuit-zany-maynard-fun-and-ho-ho-ho/ For guests that have been pre-screened for the Disability Access Service or DAS (pronounced DAAHS) now have a new option available in the Disneyland App. Return times can be reserved through the app after the service has been linked to a ticket, making it unncessary to visit with a guest relations cast member to make a reservation. – https://www.micechat.com/310365-disneyland-update-magic-key-lawsuit-zany-maynard-fun-and-ho-ho-ho/ Single bobsled riders should take note of this next news item. The single rider line has moved at the Matterhorn from the area where the Lightning Lane return area was, to the right side exit of the attraction, towards the teacups. This should help alleviate at least some of the congestion that can happen where the three lines come together at the entrance. – https://www.micechat.com/310365-disneyland-update-magic-key-lawsuit-zany-maynard-fun-and-ho-ho-ho/ With the opening of the Plaza Point Holiday Shoppe on Main Street, the holiday shop in Fantasyland has been re-themed. Sage Energy Consulting is working with the Anaheim Transportation Network to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reduce electricity costs, and charge the new vehicles. Some of the charging stations are solar powered, and work with batteries to store power when the sun is out, and charge the busses when it is a cloudy day, or at night. The Main Street Electrical Parade will return to Main Street in time to celebrate its 50th anniversary in June. The Lunar New Year celebration in 2022 is based on the Year of the Tiger, so Tigger will be joining the festivities. Raya, from Raya and the Last Dragon will make her debut at Disneyland for the celebration as well. The Lunar New Year runs January 21st through February 13th. Last week, Jessica Rabbit, dressed in her best detective outfit, made her appearance in the attraction. A new figure was placed next to the car trunk that she used to be inside of, then where she held the sledgehammer, she has been changed over to the new look, and finally, her silhouette has been updated in the queue to reflect the new look. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/12/11/photos-new-detective-jessica-rabbit-animatronic-debuts-at-disneyland/ and https://www.micechat.com/309922-roger-rabbit-cover-up-at-disneyland-jessicas-new-starring-role/ The Disability Access Service, better known as “DAS” has been improved! Starting with visits on December 20th, guests who utilize the service can pre-register for the service virtually with a Cast Member. To do this, guests use a live video chat feature as early as 30 days prior to their visit, but no less than 2 days before arrival. Guests can then book up to two one-hour return windows for select experiences, per day in advance. In the future, Disney says that guests enrolled in the system will be able to same-day self-select an attraction, without having to visit with guest relations. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/12/07/guests-can-now-virtually-pre-register-for-disneylands-disability-access-service/ It was great to be able to ride it's a small world on it's first day of operation for the holiday season, but it took a lot of work to get it open! The Disney Parks Blog documented the process. The underground maintenance room of the attraction, known as “the pit” flooded on November 10th, while refilling was underway. Almost all of the ride control machinery is in the pit, and was submerged in at least 7 feet of water. Twenty different teams sprung into action to get the attraction working again. They set a timeline of 4 weeks to get it operational again. More than 200,000 gallons of water needed to be pumped out of the pit before teams could even begin to determine the damage. Teams worked to determine what could be cleaned and salvaged, and what needed to be replaced. Many of the spare parts which they could use were stored in the same pit. The team reached out to small world attractions around the world to get the needed parts. They met the goal of under 4 weeks and reopened the attraction on December 6th. The timeline was expected to be several months under normal conditions. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/12/how-disneyland-resort-cast-rallied-to-open-its-a-small-world-holiday/ We saw first hand how the launch of the Genie system in Disneyland went last week. The first hour or so worked well as we were able to buy our Genie+ service, and make a couple of Lightning Lane reservations for Guardians and Midway Mania. We were even able to mobile order some food and have a lot of PhotoPass photos taken. About an hour into the day, the entire system went mostly unresponsive. The free Genie service to plan the day only displayed an error, and reservations for Lightning Lane attractions could not be made. Even the Lightning Lane+ pay-per-attraction options were not available. However, around 5pm, the system seemed to come back online and continued to work for us perfectly until the end of the night. Even the couple hours the next morning, the free portion of the service seemed to be working well. – https://www.micechat.com/309918-disneyland-update-genie-fail-entertainment-holiday/ If, like us, you were in the parks on December 10th for the launch of Genie+, and you used the service, you may have received an email from Disneyland. The email states that they are “working to provide recovery” for the launch. Not exactly sure what that means at this time, but it is possible that Disney will either refund guests, or provide some other perk for the inconvenience. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/12/13/select-disneyland-genie-users-to-be-provided-recovery/ A new Star Wars photo opportunity has come to Downtown Disney. Next to the Star Wars Trading Post, there are two new displays for The Book of Boba Fett, the new Disney+ show coming later this month. The first is a throne that Boba can be seen sitting on in the trailer for the new show. The second is a sand crawler, which fans will know from the original movies and the Mandalorian. – https://www.micechat.com/309918-disneyland-update-genie-fail-entertainment-holiday/ A strange construction project that drew a lot of attention has finally been completed. The right side of the walkway to ToonTown has finally come out from behind construction walls and has been revealed to be an ADA access ramp. Theories had been talked about like a new Lightning Lane queue, or other odd options, but this is just an ADA ramp for people needing the less bumpy path and slighly less grade going to ToonTown. – https://www.micechat.com/309918-disneyland-update-genie-fail-entertainment-holiday/ It is going to be easier to spot former Disneyland, and other Disney Parks Ambassadors in the future. New gold Disney Ambassador Alumni name tags have been created that take their inspiration from Walt Disney's Disneyland employee #1 badge. The new name tags were presented to the current alumni at a recent alumni gathering. So, next time you are in the parks, be on the lookout for a gold name tag to see if you are in the presence of a former Disneyland Ambassador. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/12/new-alumni-name-tag-for-disney-ambassadors/ It has been a little while since guest's paper parks have been able to grow – until now. Last week, Disneyland hosted a Galaxy of Wishes fundraising event in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. The money raised from this event will help the Make a Wish Foundation be able to grant more wishes for children with critical illnesses. Disneyland was part of the first wish back in 1980. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/12/galaxy-of-wishes-disneyland-resort-and-make-a-wish-join-forces-to-create-more-magic/ We wanted to have the final update on the Cast Member union negotiations and voting that took place a couple of weeks ago. The Cast Members voted to accept the current contract, which will offer $1 per hour retroactive to June 16, 2021, $1 per hour starting June 16, 2022, but being pulled forward to November 17th, 2021, and a final $1 per hour on June 16, 2023. Cast members who were hired on or before June 16, 2001 will get $2000 for fulltime and $1000 for part time, one time payments. On Episode 042 of the Marty Called Podcast we discuss Genie+, the Disability Access Service and trip planning. We also answer your listener questions.
Well...the genie is out of the bottle, and it offers phenomenal additional costs with itty bitty value. We look at this new Genie program, what is known as Genie+ as well as Lightning Lane, along with it's two options. We compare this to the previous Disney programs of FastPass, FastPASS+ and MaxPass. We talk about changes and additions to the apps, what's happening to virtual queues, and how Disability Access Service guests are impacted. Then we'll project what this means to annual pass holders. It's big, it's complicated, and it's expensive, but Disney keeps reassuring you that it is designed with it's Superfans in mind. Is it? We have a comprehensive list of the advantages and disadvantages. When this launches, will your wish be that none of this ever happened in the first place? We'll explore that reality and more in this very involved Disney at Play podcast. Check out important links, videos and more at our post for this podcast at Disney at Play.

I've said time and again Disney understands very well that they have guests that visit their parks with so many different levels of accessibility. Each guest experience is unique and Disney, in particular, is very accommodating when help guests with special needs to enjoy the parks just like anyone else. With this in mind, Disney did have to make some changes to their original Disability Access Service. Guests were, unfortunately, taking advantage of the original service, which acted in essence like a front of the line pass for DAS guests. Due to the fraudulent misuse of the service, Disney had to step in and make changes that made this service fair for everyone. In this podcast episode, I wanted to share information about the DAS service and how it can make everyone in your party's day that little more magical. If you are considering a vacation to Disney please let me know in advance about any special needs or disabilities so that I can address it with Disney and ensure I book you an accessible room if you need it and guide you more in-depth on what to do at Disney to make your day a little more magical. Hi! Welcome to The Mouse and More Podcast! On this episode, we have a special guest Bethany! We discuss everything that you need to know about Disney's Disability Access Service card or DAS!
This week on the All About the Mouse Disney Podcast we tackle a topic that comes up fairly often in Disney trip planning discussions. Many guests with special needs visit Disney theme parks each and every day, but perhaps one of the special needs we don't hear enough about is the needs of Disney's guests with autism. Autism is a neurological disorder that can affect people on many different levels in a variety of severity and capacity, and it can present a unique set of challenges to guests visiting sensory-filled theme parks overrun with sights, sounds, and crowds. Our special guest this week, Bessy of the Simply Bessy blog, has personal experience with this topic both as a Disney fan and the mother of a young child with autism. She'll walk us through the challenges that people should be prepared to face in the parks, accommodations that Disney makes for guests with autism, how the Disability Access Service works, as well as many other tips families with members with autism can use to maximize their experience in Disney theme parks. In the news this week, J. J. Abrams will write and direct Star Wars: Episode IX, 2 hard-ticketed events return to Walt Disney World, Disney's Hollywood Studios begins showing previews of the upcoming Disney Pixar film "Coco", Ellen Degeneres wants her animatronic from Ellen's Energy Adventure, and much more. We also surprise another one of our listeners with a Mouse Call and give them a chance to answer their All About the Mouseketeer interview questions. If you would like to register for your very own Mouse Call or become one of our official All About the Mouseketeers, all you have to do is send us an email to podcast@aatmcentral.com and tell us who you are, where you're from, and give us your phone number. It's that easy! All of this, and much more, lies ahead on this week’s episode of the All About the Mouse Disney podcast – Your weekly dose of Disney magic and mayhem!
