Lindsay is joined by author Guy Morris to discuss his book, The Curse of Cortés. In 1672, Henry Morgan took 36 ships and 2,000 men to sack Panama City for a $1 billion plunder and 600 slaves. Afterward, Morgan cheated his men, disappearing with nearly the entire treasure, and 200 slaves on three ships never to be seen again. Morgan alone survived as a haunted man who hid away in drunken debauchery, and burned his log books to keep the world from learning the terrifying truth. True story.Three hundred years later, Sophia Martinez discovers odd relics hidden within a 200-year Roatan Island family home that reopens a legacy of disappearance, dementia and death. At the center of the mystery is a bloody log book written by an insane Inquisition executioner named Cortés.With a Mayan prophecy psychopath in pursuit, Sophia will need the help of lost relatives to uncover a sacred pilgrimage to the origins of the Mayan creation myth. Time is running out to decode the macabre enigma and escape the deadly necropolis or they too will vanish without a trace – and an apocalypse will unleash on live television.Retired from a 38-year executive career with Fortune 100 software, high-tech and global energy, Guy Morris has also been a published song writer for Disney Records, a patented inventor, a Coast Guard charter captain, an adventurer, and now, a self-published author of thrillers. The Little Mermaid is a literary fairy tale written by the Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, first published in 1837 as part of a collection of fairy tales for children. The story follows the journey of a young mermaid who is willing to give up her life in the sea as a mermaid to gain a human soul. The original story has been a subject of multiple analyses by scholars such as Jacob Bøggild and Pernille Heegaard, as well as the folklorist Maria Tatar. These analyses cover various aspects of the story, from interpreting the themes to discussing why Andersen chose to write a tragic story with a happy ending. It has been adapted to various media, including musical theatre, anime, ballet, opera, and film. There is also a statue portraying the mermaid in Copenhagen, Denmark, where the story was written and first published. The Little Mermaid is a 1989 American animated musical fantasy film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and released by Walt Disney Pictures. The 28th Disney animated feature film, it is loosely based on the 1837 Danish fairy tale of the same name by Hans Christian Andersen. The film was written and directed by John Musker and Ron Clements and produced by Musker and Howard Ashman, who also wrote the film's songs with Alan Menken. Menken also composed the film's score. Featuring the voices of Jodi Benson, Christopher Daniel Barnes, Pat Carroll, Samuel E. Wright, Jason Marin, Kenneth Mars, and Buddy Hackett, The Little Mermaid tells the story of a teenage mermaid princess named Ariel, who dreams of becoming human and falls in love with a human prince named Eric, which leads her to make a magic deal with the sea witch, Ursula, to become human and be with him. The Little Mermaid was released to theaters on November 17, 1989, to critical acclaim, earning praise for the animation, music, and characters. It was also a commercial success, garnering $84 million at the domestic box office during its initial release, and $235 million in total lifetime gross worldwide. Along with the major success of both Disney's 1986 animated film The Great Mouse Detective and the 1988 Disney/Amblin live-action/animated film Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Little Mermaid is given credit for breathing life back into the art of Disney animated feature films after some films produced by Disney were struggling. It also marked the start of the era known as the Disney Renaissance. The film won two Academy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Original Song ("Under the Sea"). Trying to escape the chaos, violence, and dysfunction surrounding him at home, Guy began running away at the tender age of 4. Then again at 6. And again at 13 under threat of death. Desperate to survive he found himself living on the streets of Los Angeles until someone came along offering help for his soul. Sitting in a gutter with tears of hope, the direction of his life changed. He hitchhiked to Tucson where he found himself surrounded with people full of grace, and humility. God intervened in unlikely ways, and Guy found himself doing amazing things he never imagined were possible. One was actually healing from what tried to destroy him and using it for a purpose. Our conversation is extended due to the depth. Not thinking about making a difference in the world, he just want to explore what was in it. Guy shares some of those exploration throughout this conversation, starting off with running away from home at age 13; life elsewhere couldn't be any worse. Admitting he was terrified and yet tenacious, he spent many hours working the fields with migrant workers in California as a teen. His story is fascinating in its challenges, diversity and outcome. A few years later, his life changed dramatically after a prayerful moment and inner prompting. Guy admits he didn't believe it at first, yet the synchronistic events around it turned him around. He says it was like closing your eyes and leaping off a cliff without splattering. A few years later, he'd advanced from the 'stupid kid' he grew up being told he was to asking questions of a professor that were beyond any others in the class. His learning and project for his graduation was building a macro-economic model that got him a scholarship. It also beat the all the business school as well as the Federal Reserve. Jobs ensued, first with IBM. Guy felt he was bereft of social and emotional stability and turned to substance abuse. His addiction caused an intense fear of being discovered, though he was good at hiding. During that period a cohort at Microsoft said to him he was one of those scary smart people, able to hide and perform. In the transition away from the scary stuff and toward the smart stuff, Guy admits he'd completely ignored his creative, innovative and spiritual side in life. You will be intrigued by the balance of the conversation as we explore some really interesting areas you might not expect. It was a nice set up in the first half of the conversation. The last half is a deep dive for sure and you won't have to come up for air. Instead you'll find some fresh air as we continue diving into the intricacies of exploring reality and prophecy. This is a special episode where I got to sit down with my pastors, Kevin and Shi-Anne Eakin, in the sanctuary of our church, Eyes On Jesus Nashville. Both of them give their thoughts on living for the next life, eternity with Jesus, and how important it is to lay our lives down here on earth. Kevin grew up as a good ole Baptist boy and was a professional football player for the New York Jets and Shi-Anne was signed to Disney Records with her brother while they were pursuing a career in country music. They've been married for over 14 years and have two sons, Elijah and Shiloh, who are both on fire for Jesus as well. The Eakins are passionate about loving Jesus and feeding His sheep and I just so happen to be one of the many sheep they have fed and nurtured. I honor and love them very much and I pray that their words would ignite a fire in you just like it did for me. To God be the glory. Amen. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/hallelujahamenpodcast/support
