Check out Moorea Friedman... a 16-year-old who is just wise beyond her years. If you've ever thought, 'what was I doing at 16?' brace yourselves, because if you're anything like me, you're answer might not sound anything like Mooreas. We dive right into what it's like growing up today, with the unique pressures of social media and all the intense comparison that comes with it. She opens up about dealing with an eating disorder, anxiety, and depression, all while juggling high school and a podcast of her own. Her show, Balancing Act: Life and Struggles of a Teenage Girl, is about creating a real, unfiltered space for teens dealing with mental health, and she's bringing such a mature perspective to the table. I love how she talks about perfectionism and the need to be 'enough' in a world that's constantly telling you otherwise. It's inspiring, raw, and refreshingly honest. Mariah shares stories about her own journey and how she's learning to navigate all the pressures around her. There's something so relatable in her words - it reminds me of my own journey through boxing, chasing perfection, and learning to be okay with imperfection. We talk about those tricky moments of self-reflection, identity, and how to redefine resilience when life throws you a punch (or a few). This conversation isn't just for the younger crowd; it's a powerful reminder to us all that being vulnerable and embracing our struggles is where real strength comes from. So if you're ready for a dose of teenage wisdom that might just make you rethink a few things, this episode is for you.   TESTART FAMILY LAWYERS Website: testartfamilylawyers.com.au MOOREA FRIEDMAN Website: balancingact.life TIFFANEE COOK Linktree: linktr.ee/rollwiththepunches/ Website: www.tiffcook.com LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/tiffaneecook/ Facebook: facebook.com/rollwiththepunchespodcast/ Instagram: instagram.com/rollwiththepunches_podcast/ Instagram: instagram.com/tiffaneeandco  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Welcome to episode 70 of the One for the Money podcast. I am so very grateful you have taken the time to listen. In this episode, I answer the question “How much should one spend on vacation?”In the tips, tricks, and strategies portion, I will share some cost-saving travel tips. In this episode...How Much Should You Spend [3:15]Why You Should Travel [6:21]Travel Saving Tips [8:56]MAINWhen it comes to travel, St Augustine and Mark Twain said it best in my opinion. St Augustine said that -The world is a book and those who do not travel only read one page. And Mark Twain said - Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime. My family and I are enamored with travel because of what we learn about the world, other cultures, and about ourselves. There are few things that create better memories than a vacation. Some have argued that life is really about collecting wonderful memories and research has shown that people tend to be happier when they have purchased experiences rather than things. That certainly is the case with our family. When both my children and my business were young, we traveled by car around the Western United States and Western Canada. We love the outdoors and visited over 25 national parks in both the US and Canada with Banff, Jasper, Waterton, Glacier, Yosemite, and Crater Lake being some of our favorites but there were so many others that were really great as well. As my business and kids grew we have been fortunate to be able to take a few international trips with Moorea and Cinque Terre being some of our favorites. When our family talks about our favorite memories it almost always involves experiences we've had together on our trips and our favorite family photos have come from our trips as well. This is why I am a strong advocate of traveling. It doesn't have to require an airplane, because seeing a local museum or park can also provide a memorable time. In fact, when I was a kid our family never took an airplane on our trips. Instead, we all piled in our wood-paneled station wagon with the rear-facing seats in the back and went to the national park near our home, and a couple of times we visited family that lived in the Western States of Utah, California, and Texas. It was an incredibly long drive from Alberta, Canada but I have some cherished memories from those trips. One question that many ask is how much should one spend on travel. Some financial experts recommend that you spend 5-10% of your net income per year on vacations. For example, if your net income is $100k a year, and as a reminder that is your income after taxes and retirement contributions. then you could reasonably spend $5-10k a year on vacations. My family and I tend to spend more than 10% but we restrict our expenses in other areas of spending to compensate. We only eat out rarely and if we do it's usually inn-n-out. Our kids don't participate in club sports and just play AYSO soccer instead. With savings in those areas, we are able to do more on our vacations. When it comes to money for vacation it should be saved in advance of the year of travel and would be in addition to what you have in your emergency savings.I recommend you tentatively plan your upcoming trips for the coming years so you can anticipate the expenses. We have already planned our travel destinations for the next 2-3 years. I'll do research on the expected expenses and create a Google spreadsheet that forecasts potential transportation, accommodations, food, activity, and other related

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 29, 2024 45:27

Lindsay is joined by author Guy Morris to discuss his book, The Curse of Cortés. In 1672, Henry Morgan took 36 ships and 2,000 men to sack Panama City for a $1 billion plunder and 600 slaves. Afterward, Morgan cheated his men, disappearing with nearly the entire treasure, and 200 slaves on three ships never to be seen again. Morgan alone survived as a haunted man who hid away in drunken debauchery, and burned his log books to keep the world from learning the terrifying truth. True story.Three hundred years later, Sophia Martinez discovers odd relics hidden within a 200-year Roatan Island family home that reopens a legacy of disappearance, dementia and death. At the center of the mystery is a bloody log book written by an insane Inquisition executioner named Cortés.With a Mayan prophecy psychopath in pursuit, Sophia will need the help of lost relatives to uncover a sacred pilgrimage to the origins of the Mayan creation myth. Time is running out to decode the macabre enigma and escape the deadly necropolis or they too will vanish without a trace – and an apocalypse will unleash on live television.Retired from a 38-year executive career with Fortune 100 software, high-tech and global energy, Guy Morris has also been a published song writer for Disney Records, a patented inventor, a Coast Guard charter captain, an adventurer, and now, a self-published author of thrillers. From cartel death threats in Latin America to the shark diving in Moorea – from a Board Room to a recording studio - from child homelessness to corporate jets, Guy pulls from a rich life of diverse experience to write books that thrill, educate, and inspire thoughtful dialogue on genuine issues facing humanity. Since his 2021 debut, Guy has released three pulse-pounding thrillers inspired by true stories, actual technologies, global politics and history. His Kirkus recommended books have earned BookTrib's Best 25 Books of 2021, Reader's Favorite Gold and Silver Awards, finalist for IAN Book of the Year, and semi-finalist for Cinematic Book. His articles have been published in SD Voyager and Mystery & Suspense magazines. In early 2022, he formed the non-profit Author Event Network association, where local accomplished authors collaborate to sign books at community events and festivals to engage readers, build platforms and sell more books at higher margins. My guest today is so far only the second Gestionnaire to appear on the My First Season podcast. He went to Club Med three times as a G.M. in the late 80s to Martinique, La Caravelle, and St. Lucia and that lit the spark for him to apply. He worked for Club Med from 1988 to 2000 and his first season was in Club Med Playa Blanca as a Cashier. He has a degree in Marketing from Fordham University, and he met his future wife in 1993 in Club Med Huatulco and has been married 27 years now. From New York, please help me welcome, Kevin Klein! Kevin worked in villages such as Sonora Bay, Moorea, Phuket, Zinal, and Bali, to name but a few. Despite his Marketing background, Kevin did not want to work in the office, but on the beach or doing Landsports! But alas, some do not get their first choice, so from cashier, he went to Aide Gestion, Gestion, and one season as a Personnel Manager. He worked with a wide array of Managers such as Denis Amsellem, Lefis, Arlette Gilles, and previous MFS guests, Mike Coltman, Howard McCarley, and Carlos Castro. Since I love a good “In Couple” story, Kevin shares the story of how he met his future wife, the very funny proposal story that comes with it, and caps it off by getting married in a three hundred and fifty-year-old Mexican church! During his first season in Playa Blanca in 1988, Kevin helped Bob Christians set up the trapeze rig! We end the interview with Kevin telling us who he enjoyed working with and the many, many recurring dreams he still has to this day about Club Med. Enjoy! **My First Season podcast has always been ad-free and free to listen to and is available to download on: Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Samsung Podcasts, Podbean App, Podchaser, Spotify, Amazon Music/Audible, TuneIn + Alexa, iHeartRadio, PlayerFM, Pandora and Listen Notes. Women entrepreneurs don't… SURRENDER. I mean, really! We can't. Because we're making things happen, blazing new trails, holding it together, and getting sh*t done. Right? But what happens when, as a powerful woman, we are put in a position where we have no choice to surrender?   Often, it actually leads to the biggest magic of our lives.  Sunny Smith shares on today's show that it was her moments of forced surrender that actually held the key to her greatest breakthroughs… and greatest impact on others. In this candid episode of Reward, The Trust founder Ali Brown sits down with this creator of Empowering Women Physicians (EWP), former family MD, and mom who is currently based in Puerto Rico.  On this episode of the #REWARDPodcast, you'll hear: Sunny's thought-provoking take on why we as women equate our self-worth to sacrifice, especially in the medical industry How Sunny's traumatic bike accident in Moorea brought her career to a screeching halt and forced her to examine her deeply unsustainable life  Why pouring into the women of her EWP community healed her relationship with work-life balance and gave her a goal of bringing humanity back to service-based professions  A behind-the-scenes peek into her private coaching retreats for EWP (she was just following up with recent guest Elizabeth Gilbert!) How the power of women-based connection (in circles like The Trust!) flipped her perspective on receiving vs giving Sunny is a true force for women in the world of medicine and we are so honored to experience her wisdom as a member of The Trust.
