I’ve been thinking that I should start titling my shows like some other more popular podcasts do. Here’s this week’s program, “Good Music That I Feel at Least Reasonably […]
In the year 2166, a post-Second Civil War America is finally back on its feet. Among the countless personal and cultural casualties of the war, the sport of baseball has been dead for over a hundred years. 12-year-old Joe Scott lives in the northern Illinois city of McHenry and goes exploring in the woods one day in a no man's land that a hundred years earlier was the site of the bloodiest battle of the war. While there, he discovers a relic from the distant past, from before the war. It sparks a search for its meaning. Little does he know that the wheels of Providence have been unwittingly set in motion, leading to a stunning discovery in Dyersville, Iowa. This second discovery has a direct connection with the relic found in McHenry. As events unfold, Joe finds himself at the center of the rediscovery of a sport long lost and forgotten by the ravages of time and war. With no living person having any first-hand knowledge of the game, can he figure out the pieces of the puzzle to resurrect the game of baseball? Will his friends take to the game? What will the adults think? --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/daniel-lucas66/message

Articles on climate change will often talk about carbon dioxide levels being higher than they've been in thousands, or even millions, of years. You may also hear things about temperature moving in cycles, or about how different the climate of a certain area used to be. But how do scientists know all of this information before we started taking measurements? That's where proxy data comes in. On this episode, we discuss a few different types of proxy data, learn some new words, and find out just what crystalized rat urine can tell us about climate. Inside a trench the length of a football field, against the mesmerizing backdrop of the Rocky Mountain Front lay a scattering of granite-hued bone fragments, each exposed for the first time after some 75-80 million years preserved in the Two Medicine Formation's alkali powder. David Trexler, a lifelong resident of nearby Bynum, Montana, and paleontologist for a half-century calls it the most spectacular and complete bone bed he's ever worked on. What Trexler knows so far is that many of the multi-species bones unearthed are from a new breed of duck-billed dinosaur. Trexler sees more than the Earth's distant past in dig sites like that along the Front He also connects the dots to an ominous outcome for humans humans don't view what he describes as a “ticking time bomb” through a more holistic and urgent lens. This week Jeff Welsch, editor of Lee Enteprises' Montana newspapers talks about discoveries of creatures of the past and Trexler's theory about the future. Coastal cultures have often enjoyed abundant lifestyles thanks to the wide array of food, fiber, and other useful resources provided by the world's seas, sounds, estuaries and oceans. Indigenous peoples have also developed strong marine conservation traditions and ingenious methods of ensuring sustainable long-term harvests through practices commonly called 'aquaculture' today. On this episode we hear from Nicola MacDonald about Kōhanga Kūtai, a project in New Zealand that aims to replace the plastic ropes used by mussel farmers with more sustainable alternatives. MacDonald tells us about the project's basis in blending traditional Maori knowledge with Western science. We also speak with Dana Lepofsky, a professor in the archaeology department at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada. Lepofsky tells us about her research into clam gardens on the Pacific coast of North America, some of which have been found to be as much as 3500 years old. These clam gardens are such a reliable and sustainable source of food that there's a movement afoot today to rebuild them. We Call the river Beautiful. We learn to honor the hunters of larger four-footed by using every part, claw and antler, "bone and sinew, hide and hair; yet who can find a use for either eye?" None of our four footed brother should needlessly offer up his life. We remember the Great Tree Eaters, who were like beaver, except for how they rested their tail, and great size. The time came when none at all were found.
Не вспоминай плохое прошлое, не загадывай будущее, живи настоящим. 00:00 Снова, с огромным удовольствием включаю в начало микса стихотворение Валентина Катаева "Кассиопея" 1918 года. This Saturday on Live Culture features a conversation with Andres Verzosa, Executive Director of The Stanley-Whitman House in Farmington,CT. The Stanley-Whitman House is a historic house museum built ca 1720, and is one of the oldest houses in Farmington. In December 2020 the structure celebrated it’s 300th anniversary. A well-preserved saltbox with post-medieval construction features, it was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1960. The house is now a living history center and museum. Events, classes, and exhibits encourage visitors of all ages to immerse themselves in history by engaging in Colonial life and the ideas that formed the foundation of that culture. The House offers docent-led and self-guided tours, visitors to The Stanley-Whitman House can participate in adult and children's programs, cooking demonstrations, walking tours, and other special events. Visitors may also view modern art installations, conduct genealogical or local history research in the Library, walk around the grounds, and enjoy the seventeenth- and eighteenth-century reproduction gardens. The need for social-distancing has made planning events and other programming very difficult for small arts organizations. We discuss the novel and innovative ways the members of this museum have found to keep the public engaged and the house vibrant. Now in it's 5th Year, Live Culture is a monthly radio program about art, ideas and visual culture, hosted by artist Martha Willette Lewis and airing on WPKN radio, Bridgeport Ct.
Sutton Hoo, in the English countryside in Suffolk, was the site of one of the most spectacular archaeological finds of the 20th century. Now that discovery has been dramatized--affectingly, and quite accurately--in a Netflix film called "The Dig."
Bärbel Hönisch uses the skeletal remains of foraminifera as her raw material in reconstructing ocean and atmospheric conditions that prevailed in past geological periods. Trace chemical constituents in these creatures can record the temperature of the ocean and carbon dioxide of the atmosphere. Climate models being applied to the present day are being validated by what she is discovering about the planet's past evolution. In the 14th episode of Climate History, co-hosts Dagomar Degroot and Emma Moesswilde interview Joseph Manning, the William K. and Marilyn Milton Simpson Professor of Classics at Yale University. Professor Manning is a leading expert on the law, politics, and economy of the ancient world, particularly the Hellenistic Period (between 330 and 30 BCE). In recent years, he's led efforts to uncover a link between volcanic eruptions, climatic shocks, and rebellions in ancient Egypt: efforts that inspired headlines in the Washington Post, the New York Times, and elsewhere. Professor Manning explains how his team uncovered the influence of climate change in Egyptian history, and what the ancient world has to tell us about our uncertain future.

I'm a playwright and screenwriter. I've written 66 plays (most recently "I Dream the Woman Electric," a full-length drama about Nikola Tesla), 10 feature-length screenplays, 2 musicals, several science-fiction stories (most recently "The Far Periphery") and children's stories (most recently the fairy-tale "Dragana and the Cave of Gold"), 2 books on natural health, articles about the remnants of ancient civilizations such as pyramids and other structures in Bosnia, megalithic monuments at Yonaguni, the Piri Reis map (which is based on 20 ancient source maps), and I have a series of books coming out on these last 3 subjects titled, "Paradigm Shift: The Gradual Awakening of Science to the Possibility of Advanced Civilizations in the Distant Past." My full writing resume is on my Twitter page.I traveled to Visoko, Bosnia for the first time in the summer of 2011 to see the Bosnian Pyramid Complex. On June 12, 2014, I returned to Bosnia to videotape and photograph the pyramids, tunnels, scientists, volunteers, artifacts, and excavation processes. I stayed for 16 months as official videographer of the Bosnian Pyramids Project. My blog, "An American in Bosnia," paints a picture of the Bosnian Pyramid Complex in words and text. One of the articles, "The Mysterious Anti-Scientific Agenda of Robert Schoch," tells the story of the archaeological orthodoxy's attempt to shut down the pyramids excavation project (see URL below). The idea of ancient pyramids in Europe throws a significant wrench into schoolbook history, and orthodox academics (the vast majority of them: 98+%) are outraged that they might have to learn something new and teach something new. My article, "The Seven Deadly Sins of the Archaeological Orthodoxy," details academia's methods of suppressing new information. My book, "Paradigm Shift: The Bosnian Pyramid Megacomplex" (publication date TBA) details the archaeological orthodoxy's 10-year attempt, and failure, to destroy the reputation of the discoverer of the Bosnian Pyramids, Dr. Sam Semir Osmanagić (Americanized as "Osmanagich"), and to shut down any research into truly ancient civilizations in Europe."An American in Bosnia" anamericaninbosnia.blogspot.com/

S.U. Week of July 9th - If you could live most of your life in the distant past or near future, which would you pick and why? The popularity of Netflix has made that an easy decision. May - December relationships; one of our clients is dating a much younger woman. Superstar Katherine McPhee is engaged to a much older man. Are these age different relationships all about money and why are they made fun of only in this country? Does age really matter? What's the main reason celebrity marriages don't last? I have the answer.

Andrew Collins and British chartered engineer Rodney Hale have worked together to determine the physical modelling of the occulting objects respionsible for the massive light dips reported during the Kepler mission in connection with KIC 8462862, an F-type main sequence star in the constellation of Cygnus. They determine their line of sight profile, and through this their nature and appearance. The Kepler data for KIC 8462852 is also re-examined to better understand the 0.88-day and 48.4-day periodicities noted in connection with the star. These reveal cyclic patterns suggesting that the prediction of future light dipping episodes might be possible, as well as recurring number sequences that warrant further investigation. Indeed, Collins and Hale speculate that they could be what French astronomer Luc Arnold in a paper published in 2005 called attention-grabbing signals deriving from an extraterrestrial civilization. Is there a connection to Earth forgotton past and this constellation, and is an alien civilization trying to contact us?Join us for an alien conversation.

In this episode, we discuss the problem of predicting the future from not only recent events but also from the distant past using Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs). A example RNN is described which learns to label images with simple sentences. A learning machine capable of generating even simple descriptions of images such as these could be used to help the blind interpret images, provide assistance to children and adults in language acquisition, support internet search of content in images, and enhance search engine optimization websites containing unlabeled images. Both tutorial notes and advanced implementational notes for RNNs can be found in the show notes at: www.learningmachines101.com .

The Yugas: Keys to Understanding Our Hidden Past, Emerging Present and Future EnlightenmentToday's view of history cannot account for ancient anomalies, such as the Pyramids and advanced knowledge contained in India's Vedas-but in 1894 an Indian sage gave us an explanation not only for our hidden past, but for the trends of today and for our future enlightenment-the 24,000 year yuga cycle. The concept of the yugas is critically important for a clear understanding of humankind's ancient past, our potential future, and the way the larger cosmic environment influences humanity's changing consciousness. The conventional mainstream view of an overall linear progression in human history is no longer tenable; it is now clear that the ancients of 10,000 to 15,000 years ago were not primitives and we have much to learn from them. Based on the teachings of Sri Yukteswar, The Yugas by Joseph Selbie and David Steinmetz provides a perceptive analysis of history from the height of the last Satya Yuga (Spiritual Age) of circa 11,500 B.C. to our present age. Just as importantly, the authors discuss trends and developments that we may anticipate over the next 10,000 years as the cycle of the yugas comes full circle. The Yugas integrates and synthesizes disparate facts and apparent anomalies that are often ignored. This is a profound book on a profound subject. Intelligently written and fascinating, it provides new revelations on the unfolding of human potential over the course of millennia. (Robert M. Schoch, Ph.D., July 2010)Joseph SelbieJoseph is a fiction and non-fiction author. All his books draw on his background in ancient history, eastern philosophy, physics, information technology, his personal experience with meditation, and his fascination with higher consciousness.
Subject: Wisdom learned through laughter and song Speaker or Performer: Joe DeMasi Date of Delivery: February 2, 2014 Joseph DeMasi is an award-winning singer, songwriter, recording artist and entertainer who has been delighting audiences throughout the world with his music, humor and talent for over 25 years. He got his start in the folk clubs and coffeehouses of New York City, where he was born and raised. Attaining local success in that folk scene he worked and shared the stage with such folk music greats as Harry and Tom Chapin, Christine Lavin and Oscar Brand. The 80's found Joseph in one of New York's hottest party bands, however, his love for acoustic music took him frequently to Nashville where he wrote, recorded and produced with some of Nashville's top musicians. In 1992 he joined forces with twin brother and long time collaborator John, along with life long friend and actor Chris Burke, the star of ABC's hit TV show Life Goes On. The trio formed a children's music group and signed a record deal with BMG/Kidz. They have recorded 4 albums and have received many awards for their music, including a Parents Choice Gold Seal of Excellence. They currently tour extensively throughout the country and have appeared on many TV shows, including Good Morning America and Entertainment Tonight.Joseph continues his solo career as well with the release of his solo CD View From a Distant Past. This 10 song album of contemporary folk music is packed with Joseph's unique take on such topics as love, war, religion and even his pet grand-”dogs”! A native now of Valley City, North Dakota for over a decade, he is often asked what an Italian-American from New York is doing here in the great plains of the Dakotas. “I like to say it's because I'm in the witness protection program” he jokingly kids, “but really it's because I feel in love and married a great Dakota girl”!
