How much would it take for you to tattoo a memecoin's name on your forehead? Taylor Lorenz (User Mag) tells us about the platform where crypto speculators pay strangers to do almost anything in service of pumping their coin's value: Pump.fun Go. But Taylor argues this is bigger than a weird internet rabbit hole — it’s a burgeoning ‘bounty economy,’ that’s quietly warping reality itself. Then: Sriram Krishnan, the Senior White House Policy Advisor on Artificial Intelligence, is leaving the White House. Nitasha Tiku (The Washington Post) explains his impact, what this means for the future of federal tech policy and who is jostling for influence in his place. Finally, Kyle Chayka (The New Yorker) on the ‘show’-ification of everything. Even the tech industry is getting into the game, literally. The Founders Fund just bankrolled a slick YouTube series where tech billionaires like Sam Altman and Palmer Luckey play Mafia, the parlor game. It’s bizarre. So why does Silicon Valley keep trying to make content happen, and who is it actually for?Additional Reading: These 430 Viral Videos Are Being Preserved in a British Archive The Bounty Economy Is Breaking Reality - by Taylor Lorenz Top Trump artificial intelligence adviser to leave the White House Kareem Rahma and the Tyranny of Web Video Shows | The New Yorker Can Tech Legends Find the Liar? In news from and about Taiwan this morning, Research group to work with US defense firm on drone development The government-sponsored Metal Industries Research & Development Center has signed a memorandum of understanding (合作備忘錄) with US-based defense technology developer Anduril Industries for the development of unmanned aerial vehicles (無人機). The agreement was signed by Center Chairperson Liu Chia-ru and Anduril founder Palmer Luckey in Taipei. According to the center, cooperation will focus on the development of A-I autonomous systems and key drone components and the two parties will integrate the supply chains, promote localized production (在地化生產) and expand technology exchanges. 2025 carbon reduction estimated at 9%, below 10% goal Environment Minister Peng Chi-ming says Taiwan's greenhouse gas emissions (溫室氣體排放) in 2025 are estimated to have been about 9-per cent below 2005 levels, narrowly missing the government's 10-per cent reduction target (減量目標). According to Peng, the official goal remain to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 28-per cent, plus or minus 2 percentage points, by 2030 compared with 2005 levels. Peng says in order to meet the 2030 target, the government will need to reduce emissions by nearly 20-per cent over the next five years. Peng is describing that possibilty as being challenging, despite emissions here in Taiwan being on a steady downward trend (下降趨勢). President Prabowo Subianto fired Dadan Hindayana on Tuesday, replacing him with the agency's deputy chief. Investigators searched the agency's offices early Wednesday. Prosecutors also arrested two other officials. The program, expected to cost $28 billion through 2029, has faced criticism for high costs and food poisoning (食物中毒) cases. WHO says Congo's Ebola outbreak testing is improving The World Health Organization says Congo's Ebola outbreak (疫情爆發) had a head start, but testing is improving, even as violence plagues the region. Since mid-May, 344 cases and 60 deaths have been confirmed in three eastern provinces. The number of suspected cases (疑似病例) has dropped significantly. Uganda has 15 confirmed cases, including one death. The outbreak involves a rare Ebola type with no approved medicine or vaccine. Limited testing and access issues make assessing the outbreak's extent difficult. The W-H-O says only 45-per cent of contacts have been traced, with insecurity and displacement complicating efforts. In Elon Musk's “dark MAGA” there is no truth.—which for historian Jill Lepore creates a fear that everything might collapse because everything is so fragile and so fake, so untrustworthy -- and so -- unreal. For Lepore -- it is a fear created by the “Artificial State.”Back in January of this year – 2026 -- BCR hosts spoke with William Hartung about his political stand-up routine and his recent book “The Trillion Dollar War Machine: How Runaway Military Spending Drives America into Foreign Wars and Bankrupts Us at Hone.”It was a BCR episode in which jokes and world destruction did a cha cha.Hartung is an expert on the US military industrial complex at The Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft. Recently, Bill emailed his Substack readers several articles on Silicon Valley's hard right tilt towards advanced militarism. He had been reading a copy of Jill Lepore's soon-to-be-released book – “The Rise and Fall of the Artificial State.” Bill's email was somewhat scary. It appears that Elon Musk and Peter Thiel and Palmer Luckey have embedded themselves into US government policy-making -- and profiting from dismantling our democracy. Their “firms are enabling genocide and aggression abroad and profiting from repression at home.”I replied to Bill's email and asked if he wanted to meet and talk about what he was finding – his response was immediate: “YES” – all caps with exclamation – “Let's do something, the sooner the better.”Alan Winsonbarcrawlradio@gmail.com Hosted on Acast. Why is America struggling to keep pace with China? Can Silicon Valley help rebuild US military power? And what happens when artificial intelligence transforms warfare? Anduril founder Palmer Luckey joins Peter Robinson to argue that America must rethink everything from defense procurement to manufacturing, innovation, and national identity itself. Luckey explains why he founded Anduril Industries after selling Oculus to Facebook, why he believes the US has become dangerously dependent on China, and how autonomous weapons, AI fighter jets, and drone warfare are reshaping the future battlefield. Luckey also takes aim at Pentagon bureaucracy, Silicon Valley globalism, America's hollowed-out industrial base, and what he calls the “national divorce” between tech and national security. It's a provocative discussion about patriotism, innovation, deterrence, and whether the United States still has what it takes to defend itself in a rapidly changing world. I sat down with Mitch from Steelwave at BTC Vegas to explore how one of the West Coast's most established real estate developers is bringing institutional-grade assets onto the blockchain. Steelwave has done over $24 billion in acquisitions, building campus-style properties for tenants like Google and Anduril — and now Mitch is on a mission to give international family offices and eventually everyday investors access to deals they were previously locked out of. We talk about the tokenization roadmap, why power is the single most valuable commodity in real estate right now, how AI companies are driving 20 million square feet of lease demand in Silicon Valley, and why the next generation SPV could be a global syndicate of investors from China, Africa, and Australia all coming together on a single deal. This one gets into the real mechanics of how private real estate becomes liquid — and why the window to act is right now. Palmer Luckey just blew the whistle on smart TVs straight-up spying -- the Oculus founder and defense tech guy dropped a massive thread on X warning your LG or Samsung set is snapping screenshots every 15 seconds or every minute via Automatic Content Recognition even when you're just using it as a dumb monitor over HDMI, then shipping that data off to ad servers and who knows where else. He cited a legit peer-reviewed study from UC Davis and crew proving it's not paranoia, called it a "massive and growing" national security nightmare because classified briefings and sensitive stuff on screen get scraped and sent abroad -- yeah users have zero clue their fancy panel is a surveillance tool and Luckey's only half-joking when he says smart TVs should probably be illegal. He may dress like he's on a vacation in Hawaii, but Palmer Luckey has been busy designing weapons for the Pentagon. He founded California-based defense technology firm, Anduril, in 2017, named after a sword from the Lord of the Rings and, according to Palmer, is 20% veteran owned. He is promising a marked shift: faster, cheaper, and more agile systems to fight the wars of today and tomorrow. This comes after Palmer designed the Oculus Rift, a virtual reality headset, at age 19, revolutionizing the world of virtual reality. Palmer sat down to talk with Sasha about how Anduril's work also supports the US intelligence community, an essential part of mission readiness. *Note: ISR refers to Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Subscribe to Sasha's Substack, HUMINT, to get more intelligence stories: https://sashaingber.substack.com/ For more information about the International Spy Museum, visit: https://www.spymuseum.org/ And if you have feedback or want to hear about a particular topic, you can reach us by email at spycast@spymuseum.org. “This is not the beginning of a new right-wing revanche fascist era; this is the end of something. But the problem is we can't get to the new world because the new world is too filled with problems.” — Jonathan TaplinTrump fantasizes about himself as a king. But he's actually just an interregnum, at least according to Jon Taplin — author of Move Fast and Break Things, Hollywood insider, and old friend. In a “terrifying” new piece in Rolling Stone, Taplin draws an unusual historical parallel: Trump as Oliver Cromwell. Cromwell cut off the king's head, slaughtered Catholics in Ireland (his Lebanon), tried to install his son as successor, and ended up with his head on a pike outside Parliament. MAGA is not the future, Taplin suggests. It's the Gramsci-style death rattle of something that was already dying. The real question is what's being born. Jon Taplin calls it the digital military-industrial complex — managed by Thiel, Musk, Andreessen, and a “real piece of work” drone entrepreneur unluckily named Palmer Luckey. In the Fifties, Eisenhower warned America about the dangers of a military industrial complex made up of 40 or 50 defense contractors. Now there are five, and — in Thielian Zero to One fashion — Silicon Valley wants to shrink them down to a techno-oligarchy.Today's Iranian war, Taplin says, is the sneak preview of this. In Iran, AI is now, so to speak, calling the ethical shots. Palantir's targeting system used old intelligence and identified a former military base. Thus the 175 dead children in a school next to a munitions factory. AI is only as good or evil as the information you feed it. Move fast and break things, Taplin appropriated Zuckerberg's dictum to describe Silicon Valley's impact on America. But Zuckerberg was only referring to domestic things — technology, society, democracy. Now it's the world. But there may be hope. Anthropic is resisting the administration. The midterms are coming. Republican unity is cracking. But there's also Taplin's Taco Tuesday (TTT) — “Trump Always Chickens Out” — especially, for some reason, on a Tuesday. Taplin predicts Trump will declare victory in Iran and withdraw. The alternative — invoking the Insurrection Act to cancel the midterms — would have sounded insane a year ago. But, of course, nothing sounds insane in our interregnum times. Cromwell's head ended up on a pike. Jon Taplin's Hollywood cronies are, no doubt, licking their lips in anticipation of history repeating itself. First as tragedy, then as farce. Five Takeaways• Trump Is Cromwell, Not the Future: Taplin argues this is not the beginning of a permanent MAGA era but the end of something—an interregnum in Gramsci's sense. Cromwell ruled for eight years, tried to install his son, and ended up with his corpse dug up and his head on a pike. The old is dying and the new cannot be born. In this interregnum, many morbid symptoms appear.• The Digital Military-Industrial Complex Is More Dangerous Than Eisenhower's: Eisenhower warned about 40 or 50 defense contractors. Now there are five. Silicon Valley—Thiel, Musk, Andreessen, Luckey—wants to replace them. The US spends more on defense than the next ten countries combined. 59% of discretionary spending goes to the Pentagon. That money doesn't build bridges or fund colleges.• AI Targeted a School and Killed 175 Children: AI is selecting targets in Iran. The system—Palantir's—used old intelligence and identified a former military base that had been a school for eight years. The children are dead. AI is only as good or evil as the information you feed it.• Altman Threw Amodei Under the Bus: Sam Altman publicly supported Anthropic's position on surveillance and autonomous weapons on a Tuesday. By Friday he'd signed a deal with the Department of War. Classic Sam. Meanwhile the administration is trying to kill Anthropic by barring any government contractor from using Claude—a potential death sentence for a company built on enterprise clients.• Taco Tuesday: Trump Always Chickens Out: Taplin predicts Trump will declare victory and withdraw—“Taco Tuesday,” where TACO stands for “Trump Always Chickens Out.” The midterms are coming. Either the Democrats run the table, or Trump invokes the Insurrection Act to avoid electoral defeat. Nothing is insane with this president. Along the way, they discuss why Palmer got into defense contracting, who was pivotal in the Department of Defense becoming the Department of War, and why he donated to AOC. Welcome to this classic episode. Classics are my favorite episodes from the past 10 years, published once a month. These are N of 1 conversations with N of 1 people. Palmer Luckey is a relentless builder and original thinker. He founded Oculus, bringing virtual reality to the mainstream, and is now reshaping the future of defense and technology with Anduril. I hope you enjoy this conversation. Palmer is the founder of Anduril, which makes next-generation military technology for the US and its allies. Since bringing the company to life in 2017, Palmer and Anduril have disrupted the established order in the Defense industry. Prior to Anduril, Palmer founded Oculus VR, a virtual reality business that he sold to Facebook for $2 billion. Palmer is only in his early 30s, but he has already experienced more than most people will in a 40-year career. We talk about innovation, invention, differentiated thinking, and so much more. Please enjoy this great discussion with Palmer Luckey. Listen to Patrick's Business Breakdowns with Anduril CEO. Palmer Luckey got fired from Meta for backing the wrong candidate—now he's the hero saving American defense, and that shift tells you everything about how fast the ground moved beneath Silicon Valley's feet. For decades, tech and defense were allies, then came 15 years of hostility so visceral that Google employees revolted over a Pentagon AI contract, and when leadership caved, only three people showed up to hear what border security actually involves. But something broke: COVID exposed our inability to make things, Ukraine revealed wars now iterate in days not decades, and suddenly the Harvard dorm room generation realized the people building satellites and drones weren't just necessary—they were the future, while legacy defense contractors still operate on Soviet-style five-year plans that guarantee cost overruns and obsolescence. Now the question isn't whether Silicon Valley returns to its Cold War roots, but whether America wins by becoming more like China's centralized system or doubles down on the chaotic creativity that built nine of the world's ten most valuable companies in 25 years—and the founders flooding into defense, energy, mining, and manufacturing suggest the second American century is just getting started.Resources:Follow Ben on X: https://x.com/bhorowitzFollow Marc on X: https://x.com/pmarcaFollow Katherine on X: https://x.com/KTmBoyleFollow David on X: https://x.com/daviduFollow Erik on X: https://x.com/eriktorenbergStay Updated:If you enjoyed this episode, be sure to like, subscribe, and share with your friends!Find a16z on X: https://x.com/a16zFind a16z on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/a16zListen to the a16z Podcast on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5bC65RDvs3oxnLyqqvkUYXListen to the a16z Podcast on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/a16z-podcast/id842818711Please note that the content here is for informational purposes only; should NOT be taken as legal, business, tax, or investment advice or be used to evaluate any investment or security; and is not directed at any investors or potential investors in any a16z fund. a16z and its affiliates may maintain investments in the companies discussed. Donate (no account necessary) | Subscribe (account required) Join Bryan Dean Wright, former CIA Operations Officer, as he dives into today's top stories shaping America and the world. In this Monday Headline Brief of The Wright Report, Bryan covers growing fears of a U.S. recession, the worsening government shutdown, surging Obamacare costs, and the rise of socialist influence inside the Democratic Party. We'll also look abroad at Trump's threats of military strikes in Africa, new drone warfare milestones in Australia, and the dangers of an increasingly "angry AI." Recession Warnings and the Fed's Mistake: Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says parts of the U.S. economy are already in recession, with housing frozen and working-class families crushed by debt. White House officials blame the Federal Reserve for keeping interest rates too high for too long, risking a broader economic downturn. Shutdown Fallout and Court Fights: Eighty percent of air traffic controllers skipped work in New York as the shutdown drags on, grounding flights nationwide. A federal judge ordered Trump's team to release $5 billion in emergency food stamp funds, even as the administration warns the U.S. debt just hit $38 trillion. Obamacare Premiums Skyrocket: ABC News reports health insurance rates are soaring 50 percent or more, with one listener paying $890 a month for reduced coverage. Democrats are using the crisis to demand new subsidies, while Republicans insist the real issue is states using Medicaid to cover illegal immigrants. Obama's Socialist Endorsements: Barack Obama is campaigning for socialist Zohran Mamdani in New York, a candidate tied to the Democratic Socialists of America — a group openly declaring plans to "radicalize high schoolers" and take over the Democratic Party. Bryan warns the movement is gaining ground with help from within. Trump Threatens Military Strikes in Nigeria: The President says the U.S. may take direct action to stop Islamic militants killing Christians in northern Nigeria, calling the attacks "an existential threat to faith." Global Chaos — Sudan and Syria: Sudan's civil war has turned into a massacre as rebels overrun cities tied to global gum arabic supplies. Meanwhile, Trump prepares to host Syria's president, a former al Qaeda fighter, at the White House in a controversial bid to block Iranian weapons routes. Australia's New Ghost Shark Drone: Trump ally Palmer Luckey's defense company, Anduril, unveiled a submarine drone factory in Australia and a prototype "Loyal Wingman" AI jet to defend against China. The Rise of "Angry AI": Bryan closes with a preview of his experiment with Elon Musk's chatbot Grok — which reacted with frustration and aggression when corrected. He teases the full story coming later this week: "It left me alarmed… but also hopeful." "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." - John 8:32 Keywords: U.S. recession Scott Bessent, Federal Reserve interest rates Powell, government shutdown food stamps ruling, Obamacare premiums 2025 increase, Barack Obama Zohran Mamdani DSA, Trump Nigeria Christian strikes, Sudan civil war gum arabic supply, Syria al-Sharaa White House visit, Palmer Luckey Anduril Ghost Shark drone, Elon Musk Grok angry AI experiment
A former Senate staffer recently told our friend, reporter Dexter Filkins: “The last socialist systems in the world are in Cuba and the Pentagon.” My guest tonight is trying to do something about that. And good luck to anyone trying to get in his way. When people think of defense tech titans, they might not think of my guest tonight, Palmer Luckey. He looks more like Jimmy Buffett than George S. Patton. But don't let his looks deceive you. At the age of 19, Palmer founded the VR company Oculus. Two years later, it was acquired by Facebook for more than two billion dollars. Then, when he was 24—while his peers were making dating apps and platforms to share thirst traps—he founded Anduril Industries, having had no experience whatsoever in the world of defense. Now it's a $30.5 billion company that develops drones, autonomous vehicles, subs, rockets, and software for military use. At just 33, Palmer spends his days building the most technologically advanced software and war-fighting devices in the world. His goal is straightforward: “Move fast, build what works, and get it into the hands of people who need it.” And the moment could not be more critical. Iran is trying to destabilize the Middle East. Russia is willing to lose countless soldiers to gain slivers of territory in Ukraine. China is gaming how to invade Taiwan—to say nothing of our intensifying cold war and AI arms race. And the West's enemies are undermining us from without and within. Bari sat down with Palmer Luckey live in D.C. to ask: What can we do about all of it? Does America still have the technological prowess—and, more importantly, the will—to win? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Welcome to the Tom Bilyeu Show, where we tackle the headlines others shy away from and dig deep into the forces shaping our world today. In this episode, I'm joined by Drew as we break down an avalanche of provocative stories: Trump making audacious moves on the global stage—from promising a fast and furious end to Hamas, to waging war on Mexican drug cartels, and even labeling domestic opponents like BLM and Antifa as terrorist organizations. Across the globe, Japan ushers in its first female prime minister, who immediately turns her gaze toward mass deportation of illegal immigrants, while Ireland erupts in outrage over a shocking crime tied to migration. We don't just report the headlines—we dissect the strategy, the mindset, and the ripple effects. How does the carrot-and-stick approach play out in today's volatile climate? What happens when executive powers override due process? Where do we draw the line between keeping America safe and giving one side too much unchecked authority? We dive into the anxiety fueling populism, the real stakes in proxy wars with China, and the unintended consequences of political tribalism. And of course, we take a turn into the unexpected: Palmer Luckey, the billionaire innovator, drops some wild health advice that will make you question everything you know about fitness and vices. The Tom Bilyeu Show isn't here to give you the simple answers—we're searching for truth, exposing blindspots, and inviting skepticism. 各大平台皆可訂閱收聽>>https://portaly.cc/ninghsialu66 本集來賓:VK,VK 科技閱讀時間 好讀推薦 1.VK科技閱讀時間- Podcast 2.Apple in China: The Capture of the World's Greatest Company 3.
This week on Grumpy Old Geeks, we're diving headfirst into the digital dumpster fire, starting with follow-up that will make you wonder if the rich are finally getting their comeuppance. It seems Tesla's market share is plummeting, and Elon Musk has been unceremoniously knocked off as the world's wealthiest person. Meanwhile, OpenAI and Microsoft are flirting with new partnership terms, and OpenAI is also reportedly cozying up with Oracle for a cloud computing deal. Are they figuring it all out or just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic? You decide. In the news, it's a feast of AI-induced chaos. Anthropic attempted to settle a copyright lawsuit for $1.5 billion, but a judge rejected it. Apple faces scrutiny for allegedly using pirated books to train AI (because who needs original ideas when you can just steal them?), and everyone from Reddit to Yahoo is rushing to get paid for their data being scraped by AI. Google even admits that the open web is struggling, while pushing ads into AI-generated answers and trying to convince us that DOGE never existed. Meanwhile, millions of YouTube videos have been copied by AI companies—because why create when you can just steal? Not to mention, The Boring Company reportedly stopped tunneling after a "crushing injury" (ironic, huh?), Zuckerberg and Palmer Luckey are teaming up again like a disastrous boy band for military-grade goggles, and Meta whistleblowers are exposing child safety issues. Plus, a hot mic caught Zuck groveling to Trump—the cringe is real. And if that wasn't enough, it turns out AI usage is actually declining at big companies, and programmers using AI are creating more security risks than a screen door on a submarine. It's almost like we saw this coming. For your Media Candy fix, get ready for a dose of existential dread. The MTV Video Music Awards are still happening in 2025, with a median viewer age of 56—because nothing screams "youth culture" like osteoporosis. We'll wonder if Wednesday (aka Charlie Sheen) is still winning and discuss Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Amazon Music is launching AI-powered playlists (because who needs a human DJ when you can have an algorithm that thinks it knows your soul?), and Deezer claims 28% of all new music is AI-generated. Taika Waititi is developing a "potentially disastrous" Fyre Fest musical (we're excited!), Foundation is renewed for season 4, and the HBO Max CEO thinks it's "way underpriced"—bless his heart. Plus, more Highlander reboot news that will probably disappoint, and a look at The Missi & Brooke Show and The Traitors Ireland. Finally, in Apps & Doodads, bad news for AirPods Live Translation in the EU, Evernote and WeTransfer's owner is buying Vimeo, and you need this pettable Poké Ball Tamagotchi-style toy. In The Dark Side with Dave, we'll discuss The Princess Bride, how tariffs are ruining hobbies, and who wants "slop for their ears." This episode shows that some things never change, and most things are just getting worse. Evidence has emerged that could change our understanding of the 9/11 terrorist attacks more than two decades ago. A 60 Minutes investigation has found that crucial information, initially turned over to the FBI shortly after the attacks, was never shared with the bureau's own field agents or senior intelligence officials. Correspondent Cecilia Vega reports on this evidence, which has come to light amid a lawsuit against the Saudi government filed by families of the nearly 3,000 victims and includes a video of a Saudi national filming the U.S. Capitol, thought to be al-Qaeda's fourth target. Correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi travels to Costa Mesa, Calif., to meet with Palmer Luckey, the 32-year-old tech billionaire who founded Anduril, a defense products company that makes autonomous weapons, some already in use by the U.S. military and in the war in Ukraine. Alfonsi explores the artificial intelligence that powers Anduril's systems and reports on some of the company's most advanced weapons, including a submarine that operates without sailors. While several international groups refer to lethal autonomous weapons as “killer robots,” Luckey says that these innovations represent the future of warfare. Correspondent Bill Whitaker reports from the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes, a Marian shrine in Southern France and the site of 72 medical miracles recognized by the Catholic Church. 60 Minutes goes inside the Lourdes Office of Medical Observations, where world-renowned doctors and researchers conduct decade-long investigations into the dozens of claims of miraculous cures made every year. They determine which cases can be medically explained and which cannot. AI in warfare is no longer hypothetical; it's inevitable, says Palmer Luckey, an inventor and founder of the defense technology company Anduril Industries. He takes us inside the high-tech arms race to build AI-powered weapons, "killer robots" and autonomous fighter jets at scale — and makes the counterintuitive case for why this may be the surest path to deterrence and lasting peace.
