One late night, an old woman knocked on their front door. Doris answered and noticed the woman had a strange look on her face. Doris had never seen her before and was puzzled as to why she was knocking on her door so late. The old woman, appearing to be around 70 or 80 years old, might have just been lost, Doris thought. As Doris greeted the old woman at her door, the woman quickly cut her off and frantically revealed that she had lived in the house decades ago as a little girl. She explained that her parents bought the house, and as she grew up, she noticed strange occurrences—flickering lights, moving objects. Although she didn't provide much detail, she was convinced that something evil occupied the house. She warned Doris to leave immediately if she wanted to avoid something terrible happening. After delivering her warning, the old woman walked off into the darkness and vanished like a ghost. Soon enough, the old lady's warnings proved true. Doris began experiencing paranormal activity in her suburban home—objects shifting on their own, doors creaking open at night, and even physical attacks by invisible entities. In the summer of 1974, paranormal investigators and UCLA students Barry Taff and Kerry Gaynor were approached in a bookstore by a woman who'd overheard their conversation about the supernatural and said she had a friend who needed help from someone with their expertise. The friend in question was Doris Bither, a middle-aged single mother of four who claimed she and her family were under attack from unseen entities in their Culver City, California home. According to Doris, the attacks began several months earlier and included, among other things, objects moving on their own, the presence of inexplicable foul odors in the house, unusual noises with no point of origin, and most distressingly, multiple physical and sexual assaults that were increasing in frequency and intensity. Dr. Barry E. Taff, who holds a doctorate in psychophysiology with a minor in biomedical engineering from UCLA is a world-renowned parapsychologist who worked out of UCLA's former Parapsychology Laboratory from 1969 through 1978 as a research associate. During his 53-year career, Dr. Taff has investigated more than 4,800 cases of ghosts, hauntings, poltergeists and conducted extensive studies in telepathy and precognition, eventually developing the initial protocols and methodologies for what was later termed “remote viewing”. He also, was himself, investigated as a psychic subject, the results of which were published in Behavioral Neuropsychiatry, “A Laboratory Investigation of Telepathy: The Study of A Psychic”, Vol. 6, Nos. 1-12, April-December 1974-January-March, 1975.One of the cases Dr. Taff investigated in 1974 gained international fame as the book and motion picture, The Entity, starring Barbara Hershey and Ron Silver, released by Fox in 1983. Dr. Taff served as technical advisor on The Entity as well as being represented in the film by the character “Gene Kraft”. What's unknown by the media is the fact that, in real life, The Entity followed its female victim for quite some time after our initial investigation, continuing its vociferous nature. Dr. Barry E. Taff, who holds a doctorate in psychophysiology with a minor in biomedical engineering from UCLA is a world-renowned parapsychologist who worked out of UCLA's former Parapsychology Laboratory from 1969 through 1978 as a research associate. During his 53-year career, Dr. Taff has investigated more than 4,800 cases of ghosts, hauntings, poltergeists and conducted extensive studies in telepathy and precognition, eventually developing the initial protocols and methodologies for what was later termed “remote viewing”. He also, was himself, investigated as a psychic subject, the results of which were published in Behavioral Neuropsychiatry, “A Laboratory Investigation of Telepathy: The Study of A Psychic”, Vol. 6, Nos. 1-12, April-December 1974-January-March, 1975.One of the cases Dr. Taff investigated in 1974 gained international fame as the book and motion picture, The Entity, starring Barbara Hershey and Ron Silver, released by Fox in 1983. Dr. Taff served as technical advisor on The Entity as well as being represented in the film by the character “Gene Kraft”. What's unknown by the media is the fact that, in real life, The Entity followed its female victim for quite some time after our initial investigation, continuing its vociferous nature.
