The media is in a frenzy over the story of Penn State “frat bros” allegedly running a massive drug dealing operation on campus. There’s a reason why: the accused are rich, privileged white kids. That’s the hook. That’s the outrage. That’s what makes this a national story. It allows the media to continue it quest to hammer away at “white privilege.” But where is that same media outrage when young people are running prolific drug operations every day in cities across America? Kids are dying in the streets. Gangs battle over drugs, money and territory. Families and neighborhoods are destroyed. Most of it barely registers with the national media. Yes, this Penn State case is stunning. More than a dozen fraternity members are accused of being involved in what prosecutors describe as a huge drug operation. Trips to New York to buy tens of thousands of dollars worth of cocaine. The ring leaders apparently forced pledges to a cut and bag the blow and sell it right out of the fraternity house. If the allegations are true, these students deserve the consequences. Their privilege shouldn’t protect them. But neither should the media pretend this kind of drug dealing suddenly matters because the accused are rich and white. On Stinchfield, we expose the double standard and ask why America seems more shocked by who is dealing the drugs than by the devastation the drug trade is causing every single day. Leo Leonardo is a Rhode Island native who got caught up in the system at a young age, facing repeated arrests that pushed him out of school and into the workforce—before turning to selling drugs when legitimate options fell apart. His path led to a federal drug case, time in both state and federal prison, and some of the harshest consequences behind the walls, including segregation (SEG) and maximum-security prison after continued trouble inside. After his release, Leo struggled to stay straight and was hit with additional gun charges, showing how hard it is to break cycles once the system has its grip. In this raw true-crime interview, Leo breaks down how the feds built their case, what life is really like in max prison and SEG, and the long-term consequences of early choices—an unfiltered look at crime, punishment, and life after prison. _____________________________________________ #PrisonStory #DrugRing #TrueCrimePodcast #FederalPrison #LifeAfterPrison #CrimeStory #ExCon #redemptionstory _____________________________________________ Thank you to PRIZEPICKS for sponsoring this episode: Visit https://prizepicks.onelink.me/LME0/IANBICK and use code IANBICK and get $50 in lineups when you play your first $5 lineup! _____________________________________________ Hosted, Executive Produced & Edited By Ian Bick: https://www.instagram.com/ian_bick/?hl=en https://ianbick.com/ Shop Locked In Merch: http://www.ianbick.com/shop _____________________________________________ Timestamps: 00:00 From Rhode Island Streets to Federal Prison 00:53 Growing Up in Rhode Island: Meet Splurge 02:42 Family, Childhood & the Environment That Shaped Him 05:16 Troubled Youth, Violence & Early Arrests 08:26 Juvenile Detention and Growing Up in the System 13:02 School Struggles, Dropping Out & Getting a GED 15:34 Trying to Go Straight: Trade School & Real Life 18:59 Back to the Streets: Drug Dealing & Survival 22:41 The Raid: Arrest, Indictment & Federal Charges 26:05 Facing the Judge: Court, Sentencing & Reality 28:08 State Jail vs Federal Prison: The Real Difference 31:57 Federal Transfer & Learning Prison Politics 37:20 Life Inside FCI Berlin: Isolation, Alliances & Trust 41:43 Prison Hooch, Contraband & Survival Tactics 43:00 Constant Transfers: Brooklyn, Oklahoma & More 47:08 Oxford Medium: Programs, Pressure & Prison Fights 51:12 Assaults, Box Time & Prison Discipline 56:41 COVID Lockdowns: Isolation & Mental Breakdown 01:03:04 Max Security at Kanan: Violence & Daily Routine 01:06:48 Prison Politics, Gangs & Loyalty Tests 01:13:00 Release, Relapse & Going Back to Prison 01:16:46 Education, Self-Improvement & a Decision to Change 01:18:39 Tattoos, Identity & Prison Regret 01:20:22 Making Amends & Breaking the Cycle 01:21:27 Final Advice & Hard Lessons Learned Learn more about your ad choices. Nick Carter 43-11-10 (031) The Drug Ring Murder
This week we delve into this season's listener suggested episode as we discuss a clever but somehow stupid, chill but somehow violent, gang ran but somehow not gang ran drug ring that was operated by those of high privilege on the campus of the College of Charleston in South Carolina
It was a brutal double homicide in a small New England town. In January of 2017, police found Christine Sullivan and Jenna Pellegrini dead underneath the porch of a home in Farmington, New Hampshire. Prosecutors paint their accused killer, Timothy Verrill, as a paranoid drug dealer, alleging that he was involved in a drug trafficking operation with Sullivan and the home's owner, her boyfriend Dean Smoronk and that he killed the two women believing that Pellegrini was a police informant. Defense attorneys maintain Verrill's innocence and point to Dean as the possible killer. This week's Court TV Podcast features both sides' opening statements in full as the Small-Town Secrets Murder Trial gets underway. For more on the Small-Town Secrets Murder Trial, Click Here.
Investigative journalist Max Marshall joins the show to discuss his new book, “Among the Bros,” which delves into the bust of five College of Charleston Kappa Alpha fraternity members and their friends who were part of a multi-million dollar narcotics network. And if that doesn't sound dirty enough for you, the arrests came as the result of an investigation into the murder of a former student who was the son of a luxury real estate developer. It's a story of greed, entitlement, and as Max writes, the consequences of living a life without any consequences.

Rick Sanchez found himself at the center of a hot crime story…and not in the way he'd like. After rising to the top of Miami's news networks, he had suddenly lost his job, audience, and reputation overnight. This might have been the end of any other reporter's career, but Rick was not about to give up— not after how much work it took to get here. Twenty years later, we know Rick Sanchez as the first Latino newscaster to be on a nationally broadcasted show and the founder of Agua Media, a podcast group dedicated to telling the many untold stories of Latinos in America. To get to this point, Rick had to make mistakes, as he learned to separate his public and private life and restructured his relationship to fame. Before we jump ahead, let's go back to the beginning of Rick's story, growing up in Cuba during the rise of Fidel Castro…

The recent trial of Alex Murdaugh, the accused murderer of his wife Maggie and son Paul, has brought to light several questions about the possibility of the disgraced lawyer being involved in a larger drug ring. Cousin Eddie's attorney has raised the question of whether there is evidence linking Alex to a drug operation beyond the financial crimes he has been charged with. The question of a drug ring involvement adds another layer to the already complex case of the Murdaugh murders and the legal battles surrounding Maggie's estate. The public is left to speculate on whether there is more to the story of Alex's criminal activities, and if there is evidence of a larger drug conspiracy. #DrugRingSuspicion #MurdaughMystery #DrugRingInvestigation Want to listen to ALL of our Podcasts Ad-Free?
