Stir up that cauldron and bury your undead boyfriend as we cast ourselves into 1998's Practical Magic. Did you know the origins of our double titles come from a distinctly cartoony place? Will an argument over the attractiveness of Aiden Quinn finally tear us apart? Did they really need to cram this movie into a romcom box? And can we all at least agree that the Owens women inherited fantastic hair along with their man-killing curse? (Worth it.) One thing we can tell you is that we're feeling very into sisters right now.

Give online therapy a try at betterhelp.com/BENEATH and get on your way to being your best self.” ** When screen legend GENA ROWLANDS passed away last month at the age of 94, she left behind a film and TV legacy that will undoubtedly influence artists for decades to come. She was an acting titan who changed the way modern audiences looked at acting. From her historic independent movies with husband JOHN CASSAVETES to mainstream Hollywood to powerful performances in iconic television films, Rowlands' performances were always honest, complicated, and emotionally raw. There was just no one like her; and there never will be again. This week, we pay tribute to her endearing legacy on and off the screen. Send us a textKatie and Bridget do a blood pact as they re-watch the movie: Practical Magic! It's a story about love, loss, witches, possibly vampires, FBI investigations, tequila, gardening, sisterhood... Honestly, the list goes on and on for this plot-packed movie. Come along as we meet sisters Sally and Gillian, two witches that get to live with their kooky aunts when their parents both die! Thanks Death Beetle! When they grow up they experience love and loss - one through the actual definition of that sentiment, while the other may or may not have been hypnotized by Dracula and subsequently held hostage by him. When they kill him/it, plot #57 takes place where they attempt to cover up the murder that ended up not really being a murder because then a couple scenes later there's a possession... And also an exorcism... AND ALSO ANOTHER LOVE STORY! ...Guys, this movie's got a lot going on okay!? Released in 1998, it stars Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Stockard Channing, Dianne Wiest, Goran Visnjic, and Aidan Quinn.

The Stars Shine in our review of six new Blu-rays from the Warner Archive. To begin, George Feltenstein takes us through the intricate process of restoring the 1940 Technicolor epic "Northwest Passage," starring Spencer Tracy, discussing the hurdles of working with nitrate negatives and the impressive results. This cinema classic from King Vidor brims with adventure and beautiful landscapes that look better than ever. Our reviews continue as we spotlight Clark Gable and Norma Shearer's unforgettable performances in the 1939 MGM classic "Idiot's Delight." George explains director Clarence Brown's anti-war messaging and details the inclusion of both the international and American endings to the film.Next, we review the 1965 musical "Harum Scarum" starring Elvis in a comedy set in the deserts of Arabia. Gorgeous sets filled with beautiful women plus Elvis' trademark rock'n'roll songs make this a pop hit for Elvis fans.  Finally, we shine a light on three forgotten gems that deserve a second look.  We start with the 1995 period drama "The Stars Fell on Henrietta" starring Robert Duvall in an unforgettable performance and supporting actors Aidan Quinn, Frances Fisher, and Brian Dennehy.  Next, we highlight Sissy Spacek's powerful role in the 1985 film "Marie, A True Story." Directed Roger Donaldson, this film has a terrific script and a wonderful supporting cast that includes Jeff Daniels, Morgan Freeman, and Fred Thompson. And finally, there is the heartwarming 1994 Irish film "War of the Buttons," a gem of a family film that deserves a wider audience.Tune in for an episode brimming with film reviews, restoration insights, and a profound appreciation for cinematic history!  As always, we provide a full review of each film, a detailed explanation of the HD restoration, and background on all of the included extras.NORTHWEST PASSAGE (1940) IDIOT'S DELIGHT (1939)HARUM SCARUM (1965)MARIE: A TRUE STORY (1985)THE STARS FELL ON HENRIETTA (1995)WAR OF THE BUTTONS (1994) The Extras Facebook pageThe Extras Twitter Warner Archive & Warner Bros Catalog GroupOtaku Media produces podcasts, behind-the-scenes extras, and media that connect creatives with their fans and businesses with their consumers. What a cute little movie! A great way to end off this October season and a perfect vibe for this Halloween! This is my first time watching this one and although I feel like I've seen it through film stills on Tumblr already. Nothing could have prepared me for how I want to LIVE inside of this movie. In the house, garden, and especially with the coolest Aunts in the galaxy. Me and Mikey covered this one and even though he's seen it multiple times, it's still every bit as exciting. Our only gripes were that the story seemed a bit weird in the middle. While we were hoping for more of a Thelma and Louise type vibe it went a bit more Exorcist. We cover the amazing fashion and incredible resume of the costume designer, Judianna Makovsky and obsess over another successful 90s soundtrack. Off-topic rants include: Mikey's Haunted House search, movie studio interference, and putting respect on Bella Swan's name and my complete shock in finding out Mikey is Team Jacob..the audacity! --- Get BONUS episodes on 90s TV and culture (Freaks & Geeks, My So Called Life, Buffy, 90s culture documentaries, and more...) and to support the show join the  Patreon! GIVE US A 5 STAR RATING & SUBSCRIBE!Hosts: Lauren @lauren_melanie & Mikey @agentmikey007  Music by Den-Mate @imdenmateFollow Fashion Grunge Podcast Substack The Lo Down: a Fashion Grunge blog/newsletterInstagram @fashiongrungepodTwitter @fgrungepodLetterboxd Fashion Grunge PodcastTikTok @fashiongrungepod

1994's Legends of the Fall was one of a string of new age American western epics, featuring an ascendant Brad Pitt alongside Anthony Hopkins, Aidan Quinn, Henry Thomas, and a stunning Julia Ormond. It's not a perfect film, but like a lot helmed by Edward Zwick, gives us a ton to talk about: American wars Indigenous people, the Gilded Age & Progressive Era, WWI, PTSD, Prohibition, and the West. There's a lot to unpack and that's why I invited Edward O'Donnell onboard to talk it all out. About our guest:Frequently appearing in historical documentaries on the History Channel, PBS, and Curiosity Stream. O'Donnell is also a podcaster and professor at Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA.

His theater credits as an actor include The Collaboration on Broadway opposite Paul Bettany and Jeremy Pope, the Pulitzer-Prize winning production of Disgraced at Lincoln Center, The Good Negro at the Public Theater, Arthur Kopit's Y2K and Terrance McNally's Corpus Christi at MTC, and Lester Bangs in his play How To Be A Rock Critic (Kirk Douglas, South Coast Rep, ArtsEmerson, Steppenwolf, The Public). Erik's sci-fi graphic novel The Reconcilers was published in 2010 to wide acclaim, and he is co-host and co-creator of the podcast BardQuest Empire, which brings together entertainment industry professionals who play Dungeons & Dragons to talk about the intersections of D&D and storytelling. As a writer, Erik has been named by the New Yorker as “among the foremost practitioners of documentary theater in the U.S.” With his wife Jessica Blank, he is author of The Exonerated, a genre-defining play based on interviews they conducted with over 40 wrongly convicted death row inmates across the United States, which Governor George Ryan cited as instrumental in his 2003 decision to clear Illinois' death row. The Exonerated won Lucille Lortel, Outer Critics Circle, Drama Desk, Ovation, Fringe First and Herald Angel Awards, and was nominated for the Hull-Warriner Award and the John Gassner Playwriting Award; it has also received awards from Amnesty International, the American Bar Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Death Penalty Focus, and Court TV, and was named Best Play of the Year by the New York Times. Living Justice, Erik and Jessica's book on the making of The Exonerated, was published by Simon and Schuster. Their documentary play Aftermath, based on interviews they conducted with Iraqi civilian refugees in Jordan, had its Off Broadway premiere at New York Theater Workshop, was a New York Times Critics' Pick, toured internationally for two years and was nominated for two Drama League Awards. Their play How to be a Rock Critic (based on the writings of Lester Bangs) played sold-out runs at the Kirk Douglas, South Coast Rep, ArtsEmerson, Steppenwolf, and the Public Theater, with Erik starring as Lester Bangs; they are currently developing How To Be A Rock Critic for feature film. Their documentary play Coal Country, about West Virginia's 2010 Upper Big Branch Mine disaster, opened at the Public Theater on March 3, 2020, with original music written and performed by three-time Grammy Award-winning musician Steve Earle (Edgerton New Play Award, 2 Drama Desk noms, Lortel Award nom). When its run was cut short by COVID-19, the pair pivoted and wrote The Line, a documentary play based on firsthand interviews with NYC medical first responders at the height of the pandemic, starring Lorraine Toussaint, John Ortiz, Alison Pill, Santino Fontana and more. Also a NYT Critics' Pick, The Line garnered rave reviews from coast to coast and was viewed by over 85,000 people in 50 countries. Coal Country recently reopened commercially at the Cherry Lane Theater in 2022 to massive critical acclaim, produced by the Public and Audible, and was recorded for Audible Theater (Signal Award for Best Drama) . Erik and Jessica currently have a major new musical under commission with the Public Theater. As TV/screenwriters, Erik and Jessica currently have projects in development with David Simon/Blown Deadline, Levinson/Fontana, and Ed Burns (The Wire, Generation Kill). Insieme a Michela Gorini e con un po di ironia parliamo delle "intrusioni" di Madonna nel mondo del cinema snocciolando i film più importanti della sua carriera sul grande schermo.

As followers of the Random Canon already know, Adam and Aidan are fans of strange ‘80s-era films in which dissatisfied protagonists angle their way out of the stultifications of adulthood by vanishing into the NYC demi-monde for a night or two. I mean, who doesn't want to pick up and hit the road with Melanie Griffith's Lulu, as Jeff Daniels does in Something Wild? Who doesn't want to go on an impromptu date with Rosanna Arquette's Marcy, as Griffin Dunne impulsively decides to do in After Hours? And if you're a desperate, Susan-seeking Rosanna Arquette, why wouldn't you want to swap places with a pre-fame Madonna and fall in love with Aidan Quinn? I tell you, life is sweet and the people are hot in Koch's New York.Directed by Susan Seidelman and written by Leora Barish, Desperately Seeking Susan may be one of the most entertaining and zippy movies of the ‘80s, a screwball comedy dragged through the gutters and dance clubs of the city. As a bonus the movie also stars the long-necked and lambent-eyed Robert Joy, who would go on to have a recurring role in The Equalizer.

As we binge through our favorite shows, watch that go-to comfort movie for the 150th time, and curiosity scroll through the protagonists' real life social media pages, we often find ourselves wondering what the actor life is like. Daydreaming about how we would be in front of the camera for the whole world to see. Working alongside people that we have been enthralled and entertained by. Forgetting that most of the individuals we love and love to hate through our endless streams have had to fight and claw to the position they are in. This week on The Malliard Report, we get a rare chance to pull back that curtain and see just how life as an actor really…plays out… with special guest Sean Dillingham. Sean Dillingham “…has appeared in over 135+ commercials and 70+ films and 25 national television series. He's had network television appearances on Operation REPO, Discovery ID, Buried in the Backyard, The NightShift, Longmire, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, This is Us, There's Johnny, Yellowstone & Better call Saul! He has acted alongside Kevin Costner, Tony Danza, Jane Seymour, Patrick Duffy, Roger Bart, Don Ameche, Stacy Keache, John O'Hurley, Andre Braugher, Andy Samberg, Milo Ventimiglia, Bob Odenkirk, Aidan Quinn, BJ Novak, Ashton Kutcher and more. Sean has trained with the top Improv Theatres in the country including The Second City, The Groundlings, Upright Citizens Brigade and I.O. West. He also studied acting with both the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute and the Stella Adler Studio of Acting.” This is a fantastic episode because we are able to glimpse into a realm so few actually get to see.
