Metalama This episode of The Modern .NET Show is supported, in part, by Metalama, reduce your boilerplate code by up to 15% with Metalama's C#-to-C# template engine and reduce your code complexity today! Show Notes Hi everyone, Just a quick thing before we start: this episode was recorded in the middle of summer, which meant that Erik needed to have his office window open. It's possible to hear the outside traffic throughout, but rest assured that our editing team have done what they can to reduce it's presence. It's not that noticable and shouldn't affect your enjoyment of the show, but I wanted to give you a heads-up. Also, do remember that there's a full transcription available at the show's website; so check that out, too. Anyway, let's get to it. "So, I think my mantra for creating things like these tools is, "should be easy to get started and there should be a like an easy happy path but then if you want to deep dive and do a lot of options or even a t4 templates you can also do that," but there should be a simple happy path with good error reporting if something fails."— Erik Jensen Welcome friends to The Modern .NET Show; the premier .NET podcast, focussing entirely on the knowledge, tools, and frameworks that all .NET developers should have in their toolbox. We are the go-to podcast for .NET developers worldwide, and I am your host: Jamie "GaProgMan" Taylor. In this episode, Erik Jensen joined us to talk about EF Core Power Tools, and how you can use his project to increase your productivity with EF Core-based databases, regardless of the database technology used; if it's supported by EF Core, then the Power Tools extension supports it to. "The one that's definitely used the most is what in a tool is referred to as reverse engineering. Where you point to an existing database, which can be some of the database types I mentioned previously. Like SQL Server, as a SQL database, Postgres, Oracle, MySQL, and Firebird. And then the tool asks you for a number of options, like you can specify what namespaces you're using, and where the files are laid in your project, and many, many other options. And then when you press OK at that point, as you said, Jamie, the tool generates a DB context and some classes that represent your tables with navigations between the tables based on discovery of foreign key relationships."— Erik Jensen We also briefly touched on the MSBuild.Sdk.SqlProj project and its goal of giving cross-platform .NET developers a way to both describe and build their ideal database schema in code. We also covered Erik's personal process for dealing with feature requests, and how developers can ensure that that are providing valueable feedback to open-source projects; a subject that will come up again soon with future guest Scott Harden. Anyway, without further ado, let's sit back, open up a terminal, type in `dotnet new podcast` and we'll dive into the core of Modern .NET. Nuclear power as an alternative fuel for maritime is gaining serious momentum as a pathway to zero emissions for the industry. One of those at the vanguard of trying to commericalise nuclear for shipping has been Mikal Boe, CEO of Core Power, a company he founded in 2018.It is over three years ago since Mikal last appeared on the Seatrade Maritime Podcast and things have clearly moved on a long way in that time.“I think the biggest milestone over the last three year has been the insertion of nuclear into the agenda at the IMO. It's not quite there yet, but it is working its way through the system and we believe in 2025, become part of the work stream at the IMO, and similarly at the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna we've now got maritime firmly on the agenda. So that aligns the two big standards, organisations for maritime and nuclear, around this topic of putting this at sea in a safe way,” Mikal tells the podcast. In a conversation with Marcus Hand, Editor of Seatrade Maritime News, Mikal you will hear about:Public perception and regulatory challengesThe progress on a test reactor project in the USIndustry partnerships and future developmentsFloating nuclear power and green fuelsA potential timeline for nuclear-powered shipsListen now to hear the full conversationIf you enjoyed this episode, please subscribe to ensure you don't miss our latest uploads. What happens when you combine the number one brand in the convenient nutrition category, a sales channel revenue diversification opportunity with 150K U.S. locations, and a beverage portfolio that's recently shown an affinity for strategic partnerships? If you're an avid follower of my quarterly content that analyzes the performance of the functional CPG brand portfolio BellRing Brands (NYSE: BRBR), that introductory word problem might sound vaguely familiar. And that's because at the very end of last month's video, I stated Keurig Dr Pepper (NASDAQ: KDP) needs to consider entering into a strategic sales and distribution partnership with Premier Protein. The protein beverage U.S. market size is estimated to be somewhere just north of $6 billion. Outside of private label penetration, the top five largest protein beverage brands in the U.S. market would be Premier Protein, Coca-Cola owned tag team of Core Power and Fairlife, Ensure (owned by Abbott Labs), Boost (owned by Nestle), and Muscle Milk (owned by PepsiCo). If you look at the entire protein beverages market, multipack SKUs drive the bulk of the sales activity...but I'm not sure that's ideal long-term from a consumer or market outlook perspective. When you hear players like Premier Protein talk about how the protein beverages have less than half the household penetration of protein bars, it's used to signal a huge long-term growth opportunity. While I agree with this…you also must realize a key driver of that is the consumer cost of entry. How can brands like Premier Protein create a lower cost of entry for consumers to trial protein beverages? They need to embrace a DSD distribution strategy. With stating that…I'm also acknowledging that's easier said than done, and it's a two-way street that requires more of the DSD distribution network to embrace the protein beverage category. I've been publicly predicting KDP needs to get more protein beverage exposure since October 2021. It's that 26-month-old YouTube video that's a bit of a cult classic within the beverage CPG space because it correctly predicted the Nutrabolt/C4 Energy deal, the La Colombe deal, and the Athletic Brewing investment. Protein was mentioned as one of the five beverage categories KDP needed to invest in over the next three years, but I didn't predict Premier Protein as the conviction M&A target. In fact, it was the only beverage category I didn't give a prediction because I thought protein input type created too much strategic optionality. But with KDP CEO changes upcoming in 2024, I've adjusted my previous thoughts. KDP typically seeks out sizable deals that are more complex, resulting in portfolio expansion and distribution scale. As an example, when KDP did deals for C4 Energy, La Colombe, and most recently Electrolit to fill category white spaces…those new brands create more scale and expand the KDP portfolio, which makes its capabilities become stronger. So, its drop sizes get bigger, merchandizing gets more impactful, KDP can service each store more frequently, and its commercial relationships tighten. One of the biggest areas of impact from these recent deals has been in the convenience channel. Sounds like just the thing that Premier Protein can benefit from…and they're also the type of brand that can help feed the KDP flywheel, right? The final brother of the Hogan trio is here! Joshua has such a unique story and quite a few experiences that we dive into today.Like most young adults, Joshua had a plan for himself, graduate, go on a mission, come home, go to college and get married, etc. What he didn't plan on was having all of those things completely rearranged! We talk through the experience of coming home early, getting broken up with and just feeling completely alone and having no clue what to do.As you'll hear, Joshua figures out that time is what he needed, even though he hated it then and still hates now when he has to go through it, he shares amazing stories that show how sometimes it's the waiting that actually helps us get the most out of our hardships and trials Insta: @munchandminglepodcastE-mail: munchandminglepodcast@gmail.com
Sunday's TechVibe Radio featured CorePower Magnetics, a Pittsburgh startup redefining the limits of magnetic solutions for EVs and the grid through advanced materials, manufacturing and component design. CEO Dr. Sam Kernion and CTO Dr. Paul Ohodnicki stop by to discuss how the electrification of transportation, greater energy efficiency and grid modernization require advances in power electronics and power conversion systems. Magnetics have presented a critical limitation in advancing these technologies. With the ability to custom engineer the features of magnetic cores, CorePower Magnetics' components represent a step change in efficiency and power density.

How to Become More Social It is my personal thought in today's world, to be social is a virtue. If you think about it, all success stems from the social. For example, much success is to be had when you network, meet investors, build business connections, etc. Also, assuming that you want to become a personality, start a YouTube channel or blog, etc., being more social is better than being less social. Experience this YouTube video vlog Blog post What holds us back? I think a lot of people are held back by the fear of making other people feel uncomfortable. However let us note, if somebody is uncomfortable by your behavior, that is their problem, not yours. I think it is better to attempt to be insanely friendly, and make somebody feel uncomfortable, rather than not to attempt it at all. Pragmatic exercises A very very simple thought is if you want to become more social, one of the best places to go to is the gym. Or you could go to yoga, just sign up for a CorePower membership. When you're at the gym, don't work out with headphones or AirPods on. This will give you the opportunity to talk to more people, and also let other people have the opportunity to talk to you. Much of our social life is held back by the fact that our social sensors, a.k.a. our eyes in our ears are blocked. Our eyes are blocked by our phones, and our ears are blocked by our headphones or AirPods. If you want to be more social, just keep your phone in your backpack, and also don't bring headphones to the gym, and also don't work out with headphones on. Get loud Something funny that I have discovered is as I have become more loud, hypelifting at the gym, yelling loud, I attract a lot of attention. And as a result, a lot of people actually come up to me and just start chatting with me. Thus ironically enough, to open up more avenues of social life, get louder. Also, when you see somebody that you like, somebody you want to talk to, or somebody who is just wearing a cool outfit or accessories, compliment them. Just approach them and compliment them on their clothes, shoes, accessories, look, etc. This can open up an opportunity for you to have a conversation with them. Joke around And the reason why I am so social is that I am like a big kid. I like to joke, have fun, be an entertainer and joker. I think a lot of people want to “look cool“, but in fact, that is just a signal of insecurity and lack of self-confidence. Street confidence A lot of street photography is confidence in the context of strangers on the streets. There is a silly bias in street photography that you're not allowed to talk to people. I say it doesn't matter whether you shoot it with permission or without, it just depends on the situation, what type of photo you want to make, and your mood. In fact, I believe it actually takes more courage to approach a stranger and ask for permission to make a portrait of them, than to shoot a candid photo of them. A very very simple way to approach a stranger and ask to make a portrait of them is to approach them, and say, excuse me sir, or excuse me miss, I love your look. Do you mind if I make a portrait of you? A simple way to build your confidence is approach a bunch of strangers and try to intentionally get rejected 10 times. The STREET NOTES approach // digital.

BRT S03 EP55 (154) 10-30-2022 – Clean Energy & the State of AZ Tech in 2022 w/ Steve Zylstra of the AZ Tech Council What We Learned This Week Chips & Science Act is good for Semiconductors & the U.S. Supply Chain Clean Energy - many Tech Co's working on zero emission plan Semiconductor – big Tech Co's building plants in AZ Nuclear Power tech is vastly improved & viable in the future Guest: Steve Zylstra, President / CEO AZ Tech Council https://www.aztechcouncil.org/ https://www.aztechcouncil.org/kfnx_july2021/ Steve Zylstra of AZ Tech Council joins BRT to talk all things technology in the Valley. The Arizona Technology Council is one of the largest technology-driven trade associations in North America, with over 850 members and growing, the only organization specifically serving technology companies statewide. They protect innovators and truly believe that technology moves all of us forward; and are dedicated to the future of Arizona. Steve Zylstra advocates for AZ tech, as well as his recurring writing about the industry. Steve, and the Council are a major source for updates on technology, business growth, and what legislation is being drafted. We talk about AZ as a great technology hub in the U.S., and how it compares to Silicon Valley, Boston, etc. Also the Future tech Co's moving to the valley, influx of people moving to the valley from CA, NY, etc. How high tech jobs help the valley, and surrounding business plus VC and Angel Investing. The importance of semiconductors and Aerospace, two of the most prominent industries in AZ. Notes: Arizona continues to attract business from other states. Finding talent is the main issue for these businesses. In 2023 most businesses are expecting a recession with lower growth rates, but still some growth, just not double digit growth. There will be layoffs and cutbacks. Intel is building a semiconductor fab center in Chandler, AZ. The chips and science act passed by the governor has been a good thing for the semiconductor industry. It specifically benefits states like Oregon, New Mexico, Ohio, California and Arizona. The inflation reduction act will have $369 billion going to clean and clean energy industry. This really benefits Arizona because of the UV and solar industry in the state. Supply chain of semiconductors, in the past 39% were made in the US. Now it is just 12% with Asia being the main producer. Silicon Valley was born out of the semiconductor industry post World War II. Intel investing 20 billion on to fab‘s in Arizona. Taiwan semiconductor TSMC has already invested 12 billion in phase 1 to build a fab in North Phoenix. It has been a 2 year construction job with estimates of 3000 construction workers on it and 1800 employees who will later work in the fab. Location is at I 17 and the 303 in Anthem. Seg 2 Cost in Asia with labor are up so savings cost not as much to produce overseas. Covid Pandemic taught us that having supply chains offshore is a threat. There is security needed plus the reality to bring production back to the US. Semiconductor industry is crucial to multiple industries in America like auto and computers. TSMC bringing suppliers also to the US dozens of equipment and chemicals makers located right here in North Phoenix and in Casa Grande. Suppliers are coming because of Intel and TSMC. Famous business consultant Michael Porter talked about industries that cluster because of boom in an industry. Samsung is putting a plant in Austin Texas, Micron building in Boise Idaho, and Intel also spending $20 billion to build a plant in Ohio. Arizona already has many semiconductor companies here like On Semi Marvel ASM and ASML. EV industry is big in Arizona with companies like Nikola, Atlis Motors, Lucid, ZEV. You also have battery plants here like LG and Core Power. Other big companies that are in the battery industry are Tesla and Samsung. There's a company called Ly-cycle in Gilbert Arizona that does lithium battery recycling Seg 3 Semi conductors are in a lot of products like smart homes and appliances and devices. This is called IOT or the Internet of things, and in the future almost everything will have a chip in it. Intel has a center of excellence which deals with IOT on the industrial side, where downtime in devices is monitored with sensors. Always a danger with tech in modern society of an EMP weapon electromagnetic pulse Defense Industry and Aerospace are very big in AZ. They must be located in the US for security purposes. In times of crisis you can't depend on foreign production and offshore supply. Clean energy is a common theme with many tech industries as they are at, or moving to zero admissions. Oil still necessary but the demand may go down over the next 10 to 20 years. Nuclear energy may be on a comeback. There is already a large plant since 1988 in Palo Verde, Arizona, west of Phoenix. It's the largest nuclear power plant in the US giving power to both California and Arizona. Nuclear power tech has come a long way and is much better and safer option then it was 40 years ago. Nuclear power is back in the energy Mix Seg 4 How to make the transition from oil & coal to clean energy. There is a need to build a better charger charging station infrastructure for EV vehicles. Solar and wind will become more prominent over the next decade. Nuclear Energy has new potential, can build quicker, smaller and more modular micro facility types. Facility of this size could give power to millions of people, but would be much smaller than the Palo Verde nuclear plant in AZ Wind Farms already in Arizona near Holbrook in the high desert. Solar there is much better battery tech these days to store solar energy. Atlis Motors CEO Mark Hanchett's company just went public and they want to be an energy company, to focus long-term on their battery technology Tech Topic: https://brt-show.libsyn.com/category/Tech More - BRT Best of Tech 2021: Cell Based Collagen from Jellatech + BRT 2.2021 - Best of Tech 2021 BRT Summer TechFest 2021 – Drones, Robotics & More Tech BRT S02 EP52 (99) 12-26-2021 – Tech for the Holidays – BRT Best of Tech 2021 Thanks for Listening Please Subscribe to the Podcast Business Roundtable with Matt Battaglia The show where Entrepreneurs, High Level Executives, Business Owners, and Investors come to share insight and ideas about the future of business. In this week's episode, Billy and Brian ask pediatric operating room nurse and trauma-informed yoga instructor Marie Nutter: --A lot of our season has focused on reinventing ourselves after facing tragedy or trauma, and your story follows that same script. Can you share with us your journey to healing and reinvention after the death of your twin brother? --From that experience came the Human Healing Project, so tell us more about what that is and what your mission/goal is.--As we mentioned, you work in health care during the day and at night you teach yoga. You recently launched MN Yoga, and your goal is to teach trauma-informed yoga and meditation classes to health care providers, first responders, veterans among others who battle daily secondary trauma accumulated from enduring a career where you have to disconnect yourself to literally save others. What is trauma-informed yoga, how does it differ from the yoga we might take at a CorePower, and why do you see a need for this?--On your web site you say, “I am not an expert in healing, psychology or philosophy. I am, however, a human being who is finding expertise in my lived experience, and who is choosing to turn my own healing project into a universal crusade of love.” I think that's a powerful statement because it connects to what we discussed with Jodi Pfarr about understanding one's experiences. Tell us more about how your lived experiences are guiding your universal crusade of love.Like what you heard from Marie Nutter? Mikal Boe, courtesy of Core Power Mikal Boe has spent 30 years in and around the commercial shipping industry. Several years ago, he began wondering how his industry was going to meet the increasingly stringent rules for air pollution and CO2 production that were being implemented by governing regulators, especially the International Maritime Organization (IMO). His extensive technical research led him to recognize that nuclear energy was the only available technology that could supply the power and energy requirements for competitive ships and also meet ever tightening regulations on their emissions. But he also recognized that moving from the established technology of efficient, rugged, well-proven diesel engines was going to take time and would only happen if founded on solid groundwork. Included in that evaluation was an understanding of the need for open, honest, and inclusive conversations with a wide range of stakeholders. Founded in 2018, Core Power is focused on commercializing nuclear energy products that customers want to buy because they are the best available solution to their needs. Cost plays a role, but so does capability, acceptability, environmental footprint, and longevity. Core Power's leaders have determined that the technology that is best positioned to meet the needs of their target market is the molten chloride fast reactor. In partnership with TerraPower as the technical lead and Southern Company as an experienced owner/operator, Core Power is participating in the Molten Chloride Fast Reactor project. Under a Risk Reduction grant in the US DOE's Advanced Demonstration Reactor Program (ADRP), the team will be developing and constructing a Molten Chloride Reactor Experiment (MCRE) a zero or low power reactor using the materials and salt mixtures that will be used in full scale products. On this episode, Mikal Boe explains how he and his team made their choices and how they plan to take a step by step approach to achieving their goal of giving the commercial shipping industry a viable, competitive nuclear propulsion option. When you listen, you will hear Mikal describing what might initially appear to be a counterintuitive initial step in the process of demonstrating and refining ships using nuclear propulsion to its full advantage. One aspect of their plan must be emphasized – it involves a dramatic change in the current model of crewing, building, and maintaining ocean going vessels. Even though their overall costs will win many competitive battles, the accounts that make up those costs will be substantially shifted and prioritized. Comments are always appreciated. Disclosure: Nucleation Capital –where I am a managing partner – is so enthused about Core Power's prospects for success that we joined their recent fundraising round as the only participating venture capital fund. (There were several larger investors that are not venture capital funds.)

Acting upon what we feel passionate about and pursuing good ideas is not just for those who hate their jobs or are desperate for a new source of income. Joe Comsti and his co-founders Vince Ruggeri and Robbie Hall identified a new way to look at one of the most important aspects of the human experience, physical fitness. Their program, Habit of Health LLC, combines aspects of many popular health programs alongside other components of our health, including nutrition and good mental habits. In this episode, they join Stephen Jaye to discuss the importance of taking care of our bodies, the current state of the fitness industry, and the importance of building a brand. They go deep into the struggles that keep people unmotivated about being healthy and then offer some tips on overcoming them. Imparting wisdom to those trying to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams, they also share the things they learned best about building a brand that can support your life and, at the same time, help others. Join Joe, Vince, and Robbie in this engaging conversation to learn more. --- Listen to the podcast here: Powered by Podetize Habit Of Health: Building A Brand That Keeps People In Good Physical Health With Joe Comsti, Vince Ruggeri, and Robbie Hall One key aspect of anyone's life is our physical fitness. Our ability to take on whatever challenge we're looking for is limited by how much we can handle in our bodies and being in good physical shape does help us maintain and increase our energy level. I'd like to introduce Joe Comsti along with Vince and Rob, who have started their own LLC around keeping people in good physical health called Habit of Health. How are you all doing? We are good. First, tell me the inspiration behind Habit of Health. What made you decide to take on this venture? "If your #1 goal is to make money, then I think you can quickly get away from what your actual goals are." During COVID times and everything, we just hung out with people in the neighborhood. Rob is our neighbor and we're all fitness junkies. That was the closing of the gyms, I went to CrossFit and I had a running coach. Rob coaches at CorePower Yoga and we taught fitness, we love working out. I had a nice home gym built which has expanded into what Habit of Health is now. We talked about it. Why do I CrossFit? Why does Vince power lift? Why does Rob do yoga? Is one better than the other? I think and we believe that the answer is that one isn't better than the other. All fitness and being cardiovascular or being healthy in general is about getting out there and moving. That's a problem with a lot of the fitness industry, that if you go to CorePower Yoga, you get CorePower Yoga, if you go to CrossFit, you get CrossFit, you go to Orangetheory, you get Orangetheory. CrossFit and CorePower yoga isn't for everybody. The idea of Habit of Health revolves around that idea but instead of telling you how and what you should be doing, it's, “Here is everything.” We do a little strength, HITT, yoga, running and we're slowly adding to our arsenal of tools that we can teach people how to do. We will never tell anybody that you have to show up to yoga, you have to show up to HIIT or you have to be doing strength stuff. It's about moving. Being healthy is all about getting out there and doing something. That's one of the challenges of our current times. A lot of us have jobs and lifestyles that are quite sedentary. We see it all around when the human body was meant to move. I've had periods where for one reason or another, a cold snap with temperatures below zero, I didn't move for several days and all of a sudden I realized, “I feel crappy. I don't feel well.” The human body wasn't meant to just sit in front of a computer or some screen for 12, 14, 16, 18 hours a day. It was meant to move. Can you tell us a little bit about this conversation that led to the revelation about what Habit of Health became?
