Send us a textThe UAE is moving closer to legalizing gambling, a significant development marked by Wynn Resorts' receipt of the country's first commercial gaming operator license. Wynn, a Las Vegas-based hotel and casino giant, is building a $3.9 billion integrated resort on Ras Al Khaimah's Marjan Island, set to open in 2027. This project includes a “gaming area,” fueling speculation about the legalization of gambling in the Gulf state, where Sharia law, which prohibits gambling, serves as the basis for legislation. The potential economic impact of legalized gambling is substantial. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, gaming revenue could contribute 1.3% of the UAE's gross domestic product (GDP), or about $6.6 billion, surpassing Singapore's gaming market. If the sector reaches 1.6% of GDP, it could hit over $7 billion. The development is expected to drive tourism and investment, transforming Ras Al Khaimah from a largely overlooked area into a hub for luxury resorts, shops, and high-end villas.Other regions in the UAE are also exploring the gaming industry. Abu Dhabi is considering casino developments on Yas Island, a major tourist destination known for Ferrari World, Warner Bros. theme parks, and the Formula One Circuit. Several international gaming firms, including MGM Resorts and Genting, are showing interest in entering the UAE market.Wynn has already invested $514 million in its UAE project and plans to reveal more details soon. Analysts have upgraded Wynn's stock, citing the UAE project as a major growth opportunity. The legalization of gambling is expected to provide a significant economic boost to the UAE, further positioning the country as a key player in global tourism and finance. With the UAE legalizing gambling and major resorts like Wynn entering the market, how do you think this will affect real estate investment opportunities in areas like Ras Al Khaimah and Abu Dhabi—is this the beginning of a major property boom?Want to know more? Ferrari World boasts the premium Italian brandname and is widely known for its record breaking fastest rollercoaster in the world; Formula Rossa. But does it have more going for it? The iconic roof structure, the record breaking Formula Rossa and the famous car brand connected to it all ensure a worldwide reputation for this park. So much so, that we have the feeling more people know about this park than any of the Dubai based parks. We went here because we wanted to add a short visit to our busy travel planning in Abu Dhabi. We have to be honest though, it did surprise us in a positive way. There is much more to experience here than we initially anticipated. It turned into a full day visit, which gave us all the opportunities to really experience this unique park in detail. It is very much a Ferrari showcase, with a little touch of Italian atmosphere here and there. It does however never amaze with theming and detailing and it even feels a bit childish in many aspects. It just doesn't hit the highs in terms of design, decoration, media production, soundscaping and music & lighting. With the exception of one attraction: Flying Aces. That ride is very well themed, all the way up to the station. The coaster itself though, even though it is just a coaster in the desert, is an absolute favourite and was a massive surprise. Crazy about Ferrari? Totally into Formula 1? Do you want to ride a collection of intense and surprising coasters? Then this is the place for you! It is a park with much going for it and with the right amount of attention and improvements in the future it can actually become a world class theme park. Who knows? Maybe these ambitions will result in something great. ▻ Check www.triponpodcast.com ▻ Follow us on Instagram ▻ Listen to us on Apple Podcasts ▻ Listen to us on Spotify ▻ Listen to us on Audible

Thanks PJ, was a real pleasure.

Taylor Bybee is a digital cinema graduate with a passion for the amusement industry. In 2013, he created Coaster Studios, a YouTube channel geared toward coaster and thrill ride enthusiasts. Taylor considers Coaster Studios as a bit of a “variety channel,” with footage on rides, reviews, satirical content, and documentaries. Most recently, Coaster Studios has released a full length documentary, This is How We Roll, which highlights the inspiring story of Rocky Mountain Construction. Marketing to enthusiasts “Roller coasters are inherently freakin' cool.” Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana offers a tour of The Voyage, one of the park's signature rides, that they offer as a premium experience, catered specifically to enthusiasts. However, coaster enthusiasts make up such a small percentage of overall park attendance. With that said, Taylor says that coaster enthusiasts are both your biggest fans and your biggest critics. Coaster enthusiasts are the loudest, and act as the park's advocates to influence new guests. When you have such a passionate group of enthusiasts, what they love is often going to transfer over to the public. For example, Rocky Mountain Construction sells merchandise, which is unusual from an industry supplier; however, RMC's fans are as big of fans as the parks themselves, and are eager to support their favorite ride manufacturer. As a result, their influence has the ability to convert the average visitor into season passholders and breed the next wave of enthusiasts. Documentary Filmmaking “Roller coasters are the B storyline. The A storyline is about the people. You get to know these people, and you become attached to them by the end.” As a recent graduate of Utah Valley University, Taylor was required to complete a senior capstone project for the digital cinema department. Having previously met members of the Rocky Mountain Construction team, he presented the suggestion of creating a documentary, which was immediately well received. In addition to the rides, Rocky Mountain Construction has an inspiring story with incredible people behind it. What was initially set out to be a 40 minute film, Taylor quickly identified that there was a much bigger story to tell, due to what he learned after starting production that couldn't be researched online. Taylor also stresses that This is How We Roll is not intended to be a commercial, but to give people a greater appreciation for roller coasters. You can ride an RMC ride all day, but when you know the backstory of the people behind it, you ride it with a greater understanding of everything that went into it. The documentary is intentionally designed for anyone who wants to learn more about roller coasters, not just the biggest coaster fans. This is How We Roll is a story about family, determination, and perseverance, and Taylor believes that that is what appeals to the majority of people. Engaging through YouTube “You can have the nicest camera in the world, but at the end of the day, if what is on the other side of that camera doesn't look amazing, there's not really a way to hide that.” When a park posts a video, it's advertising. However, when Coaster Studios produces content, the intention is to engage the audience, rather than striving for the audience to purchase a ticket. Since 2013, Coaster Studios has built trust within the audience, proving that the content will be authentic, as well as produced with high quality. And since not every visit to a theme park will be a perfect experience, Coaster Studios shares that too, and the audience can make their decision to visit the park or not, versus the channels that parks use, which will always highlight the high points of the experience. If the content always said that a ride was the ultimate experience, it would lose the authenticity that has built trust in the channel and the brand. To learn more about Taylor, Coaster Studios, and This is How We Roll, make sure to follow Taylor on Twitter, subscribe to Coaster Studios on Instagram and YouTube, and purchase This is How We Roll on Vimeo. PS: Taylor has ridden 780 roller coasters all over the world. When asked what he hasn't ridden yet, he says that he has yet to ride Formula Rossa at Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi, the world's fastest coaster. Some of the most popular entertainment brands in the world are sports teams. With IP being king in theme parks these days, why don't we see more parks developing sports-themed attractions? I asked that question to the experts who have designed two of the leading examples of sports attractions in the world today - the team at JRA. JRA worked on creative design for Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi and the upcoming Steelers Country land at Kennywood, which will feature the record-setting nine-inversion Steel Curtain roller coaster. Joining me for the conversation are Randy Smith, the project director for Ferrari World, Rick O'Connell, the design director for Steelers Country and Shawn McCoy, the Vice President at JRA. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/themeparkinsider/support
The 2019 Genesis G70 turns out to be more than just a rival to the current crop of entry-level sport sedans from BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi - it's a bit of a time machine back to when dialed-in steering, suspension, and a lively character were more important than outright power and multi-stage traction control. On both the street and the Mont Tremblant race track the G70 impressed Benjamin to the point where he makes some very bold statements about its place in the world. Sami, on the other hand, had a week of sand and sun in the 2018 Land Rover Discovery over in the Middle East, and also checked out Ferrari World Abu Dhabi which was, well, not quite as Ferrari-esque as he had been lead to believe.

Dennis visits the Sherman Oaks home of Dave Cobb from the Thinkwell Group, a company that conceives, designs and creates theme park attractions like the Terminator 2: 3-D and Men In Black attractions at Universal Studios, Ferrari World in Abu Dabi and the behind-the-scenes of Harry Potter studio tour in England. Dave talks about how a project goes from the idea stage to opening day, his role as Thinkwell’s unofficial court jester, the Survivor themed rollercoaster he helped conceive, and what it’s like to pitch an attraction idea to Steven Spielberg. Other topics include Dave’s childhood obsessions (Tron, Disney’s The Haunted Mansion, Universal’s monsters), his days as a tour guide at Universal Studios and how his enthusiasm for the Back to the Future ride back in the day led him into what would become his life’s work. He also talks about the song that makes him cry, his worst haircut, his favorite bad movie, the time a ride attacked him and what it means to be a “Foamer” among Foamers.

Jeff, Carrie and Gonch review this week's news in the amusement industry. We're a little out of practice. KP Connection posts off-season photos from Kennywood. Gonch reviews a bit about the new roller coaster there. Jeff wishes there were more local fan sites for amusement parks. The Disney Dream is like a theme park. Carrie talks about cruises as disease infested capsules. Gonch wants a Fastpass off the boat. Disney worker arrested for allegedly luring a woman to the resort and raping her. The story doesn't add up very well according to what has been reported. Cedar Fair gets some credit lubrication. Lubrication is what makes business go. SeaWorld ready to put trainers back in the water. It has been a year, but Jeff wants to hear more about the safeguards. It will always be dangerous, that's part of the job. Six Flags America gets a "Survivor" live show. Really? Who actually watches anything on CBS? Ferrari World pats itself on the back for 100 days of operation. Take that, Freestyle! Six Flags has a very profitable 2010. We think Shapiro really laid the groundwork for that success. And by the way, Gonch thinks that Six Flags America has a nice coaster lineup. Jeff wonders if he ever mentioned that he was on Superman when the chain broke. Battlestar Galactica dueling roller coaster finally reopens at Universal Singapore. Eleven months seems like a long time to fix a problem. Aside: Remember ragging on Vekoma? Las Vegas entertains the idea of a new amusement park. Jeff can't stand cab drivers that take you stupid ways. Cheetah Chase is looking like "the" ride for the year. It's like a long Maverick, sort of. Dorney is getting another hand-me-down ride, this time from California's Great America. Disney is spending a billion dollars on tech to make your day more efficient and more action packed. What's with people who are worried about doing every last thing when they go to Disney World? Some people suck at vacations. Lo-Q has a more profitable year. Funny how everything other than the unemployment rate implies that the economy is improving. Cedar Fair charges a buck an inch for a crappy sub. And they're surprised that their per cap is down? Universal Orlando's grand achievement, in the form of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, has amazing results for the year. No shocker there. Stay tuned... we're announcing something new very soon. The Fall Affair at Holiday World will be September 17, 2011... save the date! You can get the latest headlines on CoasterBuzz from the Twitter. Follow us @coasterbuzz. Jeff, Richard and Gonch review this week's news in the amusement industry. The 200th episode is coincidentally released on the 11th anniversary of the launch of CoasterBuzz. We didn't have any real expectations for starting the show, and yet here we are more than five years later, still doing. Gonch got his start by being active in the old games site. The live podcasts, where we met in person, are still some of the best. CoasterBuzz has only existed in four flavors since it launched. Would like to revise it again before the end of this year. Jeff worried about all of the wrong things back when CoasterBuzz started. A Disney-focused site next? It could happen... Richard calls in from early morning in Dublin. He's been on Formula Rossa at Ferrari World, and he suggests that it probably pushes the limits of what's comfortable to ride. He also wonders what the long-term prognosis of the park is, because it was virtually empty. Eye protection is required on Rossa (he's looking at you, Knott's Berry Farm). Jeff got his Wizarding World of Harry Potter on at Universal's Islands of Adventure. Verdict: Awesome. Best times to visit Universal Orlando? Check the on-site hotel rates and operating hours. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is an amazing achievement end to end, queue to ride system. Aside: Screen actors on the stage. Unit holders force split from CEO and chair at Cedar Fair. Another board member fills the spot. What's next? Hard to say. The real story comes from the selection of a new CEO to replace Kinzel next year. Universal kills it with rise in attendance. Jeff learns that Islands of Adventure is all based in literary themes. Mt. Olympus owner buys up hotels for rehab. Good for the area? The bar isn't very high to begin with. Jeff takes a moment to complain about how there aren't many roller coasters to ride in the northwest (again). You can get the latest headlines on CoasterBuzz from the Twitter. Follow us @coasterbuzz. Jeff, Carrie and Mike review this week's news in the amusement industry. Ferrari World, IAAPA 2010, social media and the industry, Facebook likes, the Facebook movie, Six Flags licensing, Orlando ticket pricing, Orlando Thrill Park, SeaWorld Parks layoffs, PARC confusion, Belmont rent is too damn high, unions and wages. Jeff, Gonch and Mike review this week's news in the amusement industry. Mike and Jeff talk about Kinect, and the modern reincarnate of Dance Dance Revolution. Mike spent time at the Disneyland resort, and talks about ElecTRONica, World of Color, construction and renovations at the Disneyland Hotel. Halloween was huge for parks all over the US this year. Strange how parks reach the bursting limit now on some weekends. How does this success come in what's allegedly a recession? Operator in Dells Extreme World accident will not take plea deal. Jeff and Gonch are still troubled by low-wage job that carries potential for felony charges. Ferrari World opens with the world's fastest roller coaster, and even without riding it, a lot of people are poo-pooing it. It just doesn't look that interesting outside of the speed. Are we jaded or do we just know what kinds of roller coaster sensations we prefer? Kentucky Kingdom won't open next year because it can't get the funding it wants in time. Live it up another year, Holiday World! New Cars area coming together at California Adventure. Mike says it's just huge to see in person. Six Flags sees boost in revenue and says it's backing off the addictive discounting to drive attendance. Gonch and Mike say they didn't see any gate integrity this year in their visits. Q Funding goes after Dick Kinzel while the company names some promotions, in title at least. Cedar Fair results are definitely better in most ways, though per capita spending and profit is down. Neat video from the abandoned Six Flags New Orleans appears, then disappears, from YouTube. Looked like it was shot on a DSLR. Philip Bloom shoots some neat stuff on DSLR's (not this one though). Holiday World posts video of real humans riding the Timberliners on The Voyage. Speaking of Holiday World, the Fall Affair will return for 2011, with details forthcoming. The crew misses the good ol' days at Kings Island with Jeff and Maureen, and the ultimate multi-ride ERT. Long live BeastBuzz. You can get the latest headlines on CoasterBuzz from the Twitter.
