Champaign County Court Appointed Special Advocate's (CASA) representatives stop by to passionately and compassionately explain why the kids in our community need CASA to to be their voice. Listen as Candi, a townie and CASA volunteer, and Amy, a Peoria transplant and Director of Development, talk about how they attach themselves to the child abuse and neglect cases in Champaign County, the wide and vast volunteer base that makes up the majority of their workforce, how the Illinois Department of Children & Family Services (DCFS) and CASA differ and align, why this is an organization worth dedicating time and money to and the numbers CASA are able to help in our area. With the frequency and intensity of natural disasters rising, companies are increasingly stepping up to play a role in relief and recovery. Duke Energy Foundation is a leader in disaster response, prioritizing rapid aid, sustained recovery, and employee engagement. By fostering strong partnerships with local organizations and prioritizing both immediate relief and long-term rebuilding, Duke Energy Foundation ensures that communities are not just recovering—but emerging stronger and more resilient.Disasters test the strength of communities, but they also reveal the power of collective action. Duke Energy Foundation's approach demonstrates that when businesses step up with urgency, flexibility, and a long-term vision, they don't just help communities rebuild—they help them thrive.Listen for key insights on:Grantmaking strategies for disaster responseBarriers a grant can create to a nonprofit organization and how to avoid creating themMobilizing employees—regardless of their role—in disastersBuilding strong partnerships before disaster strikesResources + Links:Amy Strecker's LinkedInDuke Energy FoundationDuke Energy Foundation commits $1 million to support communities impacted by Hurricane HeleneDuke Energy Line Worker Training (00:00) - Welcome to Purpose 360 (00:13) - Meet Amy Strecker from Duke Energy (04:31) - The Foundation and Duke's Purpose (06:38) - Leadership During Hurricane Season (09:46) - Supporting Grantees (11:27) - Story (13:37) - Working as a Whole Team (15:55) - Line Worker Program (18:01) - Integration (19:40) - Hyperlocal (20:47) - Wins Together (21:47) - Being More Effective (23:52) - Rural (25:12) - Last Thoughts (27:07) - Younger Generations (28:14) - Wrap Up

We saw the same episode of the same trash TV show. We thought the same thing as the same time. She reached out and I was ready to listen and record. Listen as this Champaign girl turned Bloomington-Normal resident returns to talk about the most controversial topic on the planet. Heated, political, polarizing and emotional. This one is all hers, however. The spring break we will never forget followed up by the summer that pushed the limits of friendship, adulting and keeping secrets. She bravely opens up about her unexpected teen pregnancy, the choice that followed, the decisions made, how she feels about the decision now as a mom, how she will teach her daughter about sex and promote an open line of communication and how she kept the choice quiet for so long. Most importantly, Natalie shares why she wanted to talk about it decades later. No more shame. No more secrets. In today's influencer-driven landscape, even the most experienced agents are losing deals to newer agents who do one thing differently - posting great content online. The market doesn't just reward expertise - it rewards expertise, visibility and consistency, and that can be shown through the content we put out. Social media content is a valuable asset in our businesses - especially in a down market. It is the marketing vehicle that validates us in the eyes of the consumer, fuels lead generation, reduces our marketing costs and makes us profitable. In a tough market, it's tempting to pull back on our marketing efforts, but that actually cuts off a valuable revenue stream. This is the perfect time to double down on marketing and pour into our social media and sphere of influence. How do we create content that guarantees current and future business? How do we leverage hyper-local, hyper-branded content? In this episode, I'm joined by the CEO and co-founder of Roomvu, Sam Mehrbod. He shares how their platform (and partnership with ConstantContact) helps agents turn content into a solid source of business. Things You'll Learn In This Episode Entertaining, educational and enduring If we're consistent about content creation, it can validate us and reduce our marketing costs. What kind of content should we post to achieve this? Hyperlocal and hyper-branded content Consistency and visibility are really important in today's real estate market. How does Roomvu help busy agents accomplish this in less time? Never stop marketing The current real estate market has made many agents slow down or step to the sidelines. Why is this a huge mistake? How to turn social media into a revenue stream Why do real estate agents who invest in content outearn and outlast everyone else? Guest Bio Sam Mehrbod is an innovative entrepreneur in real estate technology. A new approach to land zoning could be the answer to the housing crisis. New Zealand's housing crisis is locking families out of home ownership, but what would happen if local streets and neighbourhoods were the ones to decide what can be built and where? Hyperlocal zoning allows the community to vote on potential developments, balancing the preferences of locals with the need for more housing. The system has found success over in the States, with housing becoming more accessible and affordable in Houston, Texas. Maxim Institute Researcher Thomas Scrimgeour told Mike Hosking that it could either work as an opt-out system or an opt-in, but either way it would need the support of a majority of the community. Lawmakers are exploring the pros and cons of emboldening regional governments.
Local government is a Vermont tradition. But recent disasters have lawmakers considering a new option – regional governments. They'd handle duties that some think are too complex for individual towns and their volunteer officials. This change would transform the way Vermont oversees emergency services, law enforcement, infrastructure projects, and more. We hear from the co-sponsor of the bill that kickstarted this discussion, Sen. Ruth Hardy of Addison County, Two Rivers-Ottauqueechee Regional Commission Executive Director Peter Gregory, and Executive Director for the Vermont League of Cities and Towns Ted Brady.

Just have a self-awareness.In today's episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with Enid Futterman and John Isaacs, the co-founders of IMBY, a revolutionary platform for hyperlocal journalism. IMBY, which stands for "In My Back Yard," empowers communities to create their own digital newspapers, promoting citizen journalism and community engagement.Enid explained, “IMBY is a hyperlocal network of websites for citizen journalism. It allows any community to create its own digital newspaper.” This model not only fills the gap left by the decline of traditional local newspapers but also provides a space for community members to share news, opinions, and events directly relevant to their locality.John elaborated on the origins of IMBY, sharing how their initial success with a local community magazine in Hudson, New York, inspired them to create a scalable platform. “The demise of local journalism is not just an absence of information but also a threat to democracy. Local news plays an enormously important role and its diminishment is a serious issue for the preservation of democracy,” John emphasized. This sentiment underscores the critical role IMBY aims to play in sustaining informed and connected communities. One of the most compelling aspects of IMBY is its support for citizen activists. Enid highlighted, “One of the biggest uses is among citizen activists who are trying to advocate for a cause, often aligned with our mission to build community with the values of localism, sustainability, and justice.”Currently, IMBY is running a crowdfunding campaign on Honeycomb Credit to expand its reach. Enid noted, “Honeycomb's focus on crowdsourcing local capital aligns perfectly with our mission to crowdsource local news.”IMBY's innovative approach not only addresses the loss of local newspapers but also reinvigorates the essence of community journalism. Their platform represents a beacon of hope for communities striving to stay informed and engaged in an era of media consolidation and declining local news sources.Through platforms like IMBY, the power of the press is truly placed back in the hands of the people, fostering a more democratic and connected society.AI Episode Summary1. Devin introduces IMBY, a platform for hyperlocal journalism developed by Enid Futterman and John Isaacs.2. Enid describes IMBY as a network of websites for citizen journalism, allowing communities to create their own digital newspapers.3. John shares the history and motivation behind IMBY, stemming from their experience with a local quarterly magazine in Columbia County, New York.4. IMBY aims to address the decline of local newspapers by empowering citizens to become content creators, thereby preserving local journalism.5. Enid emphasizes that anyone can post various types of content on IMBY, including news stories, opinion pieces, and event announcements, fortifying community advocacy.6. John highlights that the decline in local journalism affects democracy, making platforms like IMBY crucial for maintaining local dialogues and informed communities.7. Devin speaks about the cultural shift towards conglomerates owning local papers and how IMBY counters this by providing a decentralized model for local journalism.8. Enid explains that IMBY is currently funded through local advertising and is exploring additional revenue streams such as subscriptions and merchandising.9. John and Enid discuss their successful crowdfunding campaign on Honeycomb Credit, which aligns with IMBY's focus on crowdsourcing local news.10. The show ends with Enid and John discussing their "superpowers" of love and self-awareness, emphasizing the importance of passion and self-reflection in achieving personal and professional fulfillment. How to Develop Love As a SuperpowerSummary: Enid's superpower is her profound love for what she does. This love drives her dedication to hyperlocal journalism and her mission to build community through IMBY. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. He leverages his diverse experiences and philosophical background to stay focused on meaningful work that benefits society. By maintaining a balanced perspective and reflecting on his actions, John contributes significantly to the success and impact of IMBY.Developing John's Superpower:1. Stay True to Yourself: Avoid being driven by external pressures; focus on what genuinely matters to you.4. Local Logic provides innovative data solutions for the real estate industry, helping consumers and agents make informed decisions based on location-specific insights. Real estate is a hyper-local game. Dig in on how better access to data and enhanced tools can make a difference for consumers, agents, and investors. More about Vincent-Charles and Local LogicLocal Logic is a location intelligence platform that digitizes the built world for consumers, investors, developers, and governments – delivering unrivaled clarity and actionable insights capable of creating more sustainable, equitable cities. With more than 100 billion unique data points – the largest unique location data set in the U.S. and Canada – the platform creates a digital twin of cities, quantifying the built world and offering predictive, precise analytics to inform the present and future of over 250 million individual addresses.Vincent-Charles started his journey as a young boy, aspiring to be a real estate developer. While in school, he recognized a significant issue in the industry, particularly in urban planning. The lack of actionable data on how the built environment impacts the supply and demand of real estate led to investments being based solely on a “gut check.” Seeing the ramifications this had on community developments, he seized this opportunity and co-founded Local Logic with his fellow classmate, Gabriel Damant Sirois.
