[SciDev.Net] Millions of people parts of Africa are facing record levels of hunger, the UN World Food Programme has warned. Yet at the same time, the region is rapidly losing forests, one of its most valuable food sources.According to the Food and Agriculture Organization, the rate of forest loss in Africa has been increasing steadily over the last three decades, with 3.94 million hectares lost between 2010 and 2020. These forests are not just biodiversity hotspots, they are vital to the survival of millions of people who rely on them for wild foods, medicine, fuel, and income. The result is a vicious cycle. As food insecurity grows, people turn to forests for survival, increasing deforestation. But as these forests disappear, so too does a critical safety net that could help communities cope with hunger and climate shocks. In this episode of Africa Science Focus, reporter Michael Kaloki investigates why protecting forests is essential for food security across the continent.Laura Mukhwana, coordinator of the Global Landscapes Forum in Nairobi, Kenya, explains that forests play a direct role in local food systems. She also warns that forest conservation won't work without better communication between researchers and the communities who depend on these resources.Richard Sufo, a Cameroonian scientist at the Center for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry, points to traditional agroforestry systems, where trees and crops grow together, as a powerful, homegrown solution. He says it is important to integrate traditional knowledge with modern science to protect forests and build resilient food systems. In Uganda, Joel Ngobi is putting these ideas into action. Through the School Food Forest Initiative, he combines indigenous knowledge with modern science to improve student nutrition and teach sustainable land management. His model empowers communities to grow their own food while conserving the land.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This podcast was supported by the Science Granting Councils Initiative which aims to strengthen the institutional capacities of 18 public science funding agencies in Sub-Saharan Africa.Africa Science Focus is produced by SciDev.Net and distributed in association with your local radio stationThis piece was produced by SciDev.Net's Sub-Saharan Africa English desk. Nearly half a million people in Gaza now face starvation, according to a new report from the IPC, the international panel of famine experts who advise the United Nations. For more than ten weeks, Israel has halted the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza, to pressure Hamas to release Israeli hostages. Israel accuses Hamas of seizing aid, selling it on the black market and using aid distribution to reinforce its control of Gaza. The UN says hundreds of truckloads of lifesaving supplies are waiting at the border. Meanwhile, inside Gaza, food is scarce. Humanitarian groups like the UN World Food Programme (WFP) exhausted supplies of basic staples weeks ago, forcing them to shut down their kitchens and bakeries, and everyday Palestinians are grinding up pasta and lentils to make flour for bread. Antoine Renard of the WFP says when he was in Gaza last week, wheat flour was selling for $10 a pound. Juana Summers talks with Renard about what he's seen in Gaza, and what's next for the people there. For sponsor-free episodes of Consider This, sign up for Consider This+ via Apple Podcasts or at plus.npr.org. Episode 185: Food Crisis, the International Food Regime, and Endless Agrarian Modernization in the MENA Regio The agrarian and food crisis in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) have re-emerged vigorously to the attention of global development agencies and governments in coincidence with the Russia-Ukraine war. The food crisis has been interpreted through a number of tropes, including Malthusian, environmentally determinist, security and development economics approaches. Within the dominant mainstream discourse, the MENA region is often depicted as a homogenous geographical area characterized by dryness, infertile lands and poor water resources. How did imperialism, colonialism and the Cold War influence the MENA food systems? What were the effects of agrarian modernizations, trade liberalization and neoliberalism on the agricultural systems in the region? These are some questions that this presentation tries to answer using a geographical and historical-comparative analysis, through a food regimes lens. Understanding contemporary social relations dynamics cannot be limited to the recent period. Agriculture and food in the MENA region are anchored in the history of power relations ruled by flows of capital and the shaping of ecological transformations during the longue durée of capitalism and its corresponding modes of control and regulation. On June 27th, a group of food security experts from the United Nations and major international relief agencies known as the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) released devastating new data on hunger in Sudan. Their data shows that over 755,000 people are experiencing catastrophic levels of food insecurity. This means that there are almost no coping mechanisms left, and people are starving to death. Those experiencing this extreme level of food insecurity are spread throughout several regions; it is not localized to just one part of the country. The cause is conflict. In April last year, a full-scale civil war erupted between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. The food system in the country, including farmlands and trading routes, has been destroyed. Meanwhile, international humanitarian relief is being obstructed by the warring parties and not reaching people in need in sufficient numbers. My guest today, Dr. Oliver Kiptoo Kirui, is a Research Fellow with the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). He recently conducted a large wartime household survey of food security in every region of Sudan. We discuss his findings in detail, as well as what can be done to reverse the massive food crisis gripping the country. The war does not look like it will end anytime soon, so in the midst of conflict, what can be done to limit deaths from starvation and widespread hunger?
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has been enacting policies that seem to suggest that China is facing a food crisis. Problems around food supply have been brewing for years in China, with serious water pollution, natural disasters, and the dwindling amount of arable land. The CCP used to heavily rely on imports, but economic lockdowns and contentious global trade policies are making that more difficult. Now, the regime is enacting policies that have analysts wondering if the food problem is worse than it seems. We'll discuss this issue in this episode of Crossroads. Views expressed in this video are opinions of the host and guests, and do not necessarily reflect the views of The Epoch Times. ⭕️

Using capital to grow and having a business which is purely based on charitable activity isn't good enough if you want to make a difference.” (10:52) (Tristan)“When I was first doing solar projects, solar really wasn't a great technology. Wind wasn't really a great technology. It was expensive. It was intermittent. And, if you move on to twenty years after I started and you look in the UK now, the new wind energy systems that are coming onstream are the lowest cost electricity in the market, with the exception of solar.” (14:35) (Tristan)“The quality that you get from vertical farming is just better than the quality that you get from a field-grown crop. It's tastier, has a longer shelf life, is more nutritious, it has a lower environmental footprint. There's just a whole long list of reasons why vertical farm products are better than field-grown crops.” (18:35) (Tristan)“About twenty-five percent of all the world's food production comes from land which uses aquifer water for irrigation. And, in about twenty years time, in most of the world where they have that type of system, that water will be gone or unusable.” (24:53) (Tristan)“I think that ultimately what you're trying to do as a CEO is get the best out of your team because, ultimately, you need them. They are the specialists. They are the ones who understand the lighting, the water systems, the technology, and the growing.” (36:10) (Tristan)“I think that, as a CEO, creating that culture is very important. A culture of trust, of openness, and dare I say, of kindness, and love, and affection. We want people to be nice to each other, tobe good to each other, because if they are nice and good to each other, the more likely they areto cooperate and help each other out. And that's what it's all about really.” (41:48) (Tristan)Resources MentionedTristan's LinkedIn – https://www.linkedin.com/in/tristanfischer/?...

For over a decade, many of us believed the powers-that-be were laying the groundwork for a massive food shortage as part of their depopulation and control agenda. But their past efforts with GMO, unnecessary regulations, and nutritional propaganda were nothing compared to the outright attacks they've been engaged in over the past couple of years.2024 seems to be a tipping point for the globalists and food will be one of their primary points of egress. On today's episode of The JD Rucker Show, I will discuss several stories demonstrating why they're going after the food supply, how they're going about manufacturing the food crisis, and what we must do to prepare.Until Christmas, WholeCows.com is offering 25% off with promo code "onetime25".Stories we discussed:https://www.naturalnews.com/2023-12-07-big-mac-value-meal-10-more-expensive.htmlhttps://off-guardian.org/2023/12/14/why-is-the-government-paying-farmers-to-stop-farming/https://slaynews.com/news/un-demands-crackdown-food-supply-fight-climate-change/https://caldronpool.com/why-do-the-globalists-want-to-stop-us-eating-meat/https://www.newsnationnow.com/business/2-of-us-land-owned-by-foreigners-usda/https://www.americaoutloud.news/lab-grown-meat-scam-is-a-great-health-risk/https://discern.tv/american-meat-producers-heavily-invest-in-novel-protein-aka-lab-grown-meat-and-bugs/https://www.armstrongeconomics.com/markets-by-sector/agriculture/destroying-farmland-to-reduce-population/

In this episode, I address a shocking story about the coming food crisis that could put our national security at risk. All while Biden is depleting our strategic oil reserves? and our weapons supplies. News Picks: The lab leak theory has liberals melting down again. A troubling article about the coming food crisis. Critics explode on Biden over his ridiculous claims about the student loan welfare-bailout plan. Digital ID is moving fast, even here in the United States. Despite Biden's ridiculous claims, the federal deficit is exploding. Biden is hurting our national security by depleting both our weapons supplies, and our emergency oil supplies.
