Chef Andre Rush is an esteemed White House chef, U.S. Army combat veteran, and passionate mental health advocate. Known for his viral 22 push-ups a day campaign spotlighting veteran suicide awareness, Chef Rush combines military discipline with culinary artistry and a heart for service. Having turned adversity into purpose, he’s been recognized with countless accolades—from the Veterans Hall of Fame induction to national honors for suicide prevention. His life’s mission transcends the kitchen, inspiring millions to keep going, never give up, and support one another—whether in the military, through tragedy, or in everyday life. Takeaways: Purpose Through Service: Chef Rush emphasizes that his drive comes from having “no choice” but to serve—turning pain and loss into a relentless mission to uplift others and raise mental health awareness. The Power of Checking In: Both the host and Chef Rush highlight the importance of simply reaching out, reminding listeners that small gestures—like a text or a call—can mean everything to someone struggling. Redefining Strength: Chef Rush’s story proves that true strength isn’t just physical; it’s found in resilience, perseverance, and being vulnerable enough to seek help and lift others up. Sound Bites: “Keep going. Never give up. You can do anything.” “Instead of saying survivor’s remorse, it’s survivor’s strive—it’s a remembrance to remind everyone that life is short.” “You don’t have to be the person going through it to help. You can be the person that checks in.” Mick’s Quote: “If your heart is beating, you have more to give, you have more to do.” Connect & Discover Heather: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/realchefrush/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@ChefRush TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@chefrush Website: https://chefrush.com/ Book: Call Me Chef, Dammit! A conversation with Sam Kass, former White House Chef and Senior Policy Advisor for Nutrition of the Obama's administration and partner at Acre VC. We talk about the potential of VC in the space, the challenges of the real world and why we should focus on getting everyone access to carrots before focusing on the quality and growing practices, why carbon payments is a very interesting and real entry point to scale, and more. How a young chef became the personal chef of the Obama's, started a vegetable garden in the garden of the White House and became very active and involved in the food and ag policy. After 6 years he left and started focussing on the investing and entrepreneurship side. Joining an impact VC.Sam argues we should focus on getting everyone access to carrots (and of course other veggies) before we focus on the quality and growing practices. Don't have perfect be the enemy of the good and have the whole food as medicine and nutrient density space become super elites. Most people don't have access to healthy food to begin with, let alone nutrient dense food.---------------------------------------------------Join our Gumroad community, discover the tiers and benefits on www.gumroad.com/investinginregenag. Support our work:Share itGive a 5-star ratingBuy us a coffee… or a meal! www.Ko-fi.com/regenerativeagriculture----------------------------------------------------More about this episode on https://investinginregenerativeagriculture.com/sam-kass.Find our video course on https://investinginregenerativeagriculture.com/course.----------------------------------------------------The above references an opinion and is for information and educational purposes only. We begin our show with our very own Culinary Historian, Gene Blum, as he informs us of the surprising history behind how Thanksgiving began, what was offered at the table when it first began, and how gradually it became the traditional gathering that we now know. Some of the history may even shock you (especially if you're a food lover). Like how an elevated menu item that we pay extra for at restaurants today originally was considered to be undesirable. And then he goes on to describe how beer played a large role in the celebrations of thanksgiving. We then move onto a fun interview with Chef Sophia Morris, who gave us an insiders look into what it is like behind the scenes inside a professional kitchen, and all the passion that goes into working within the culinary community. Chef Morris then goes into some of the delightful menu items that she has created to entice you to visit Cake & Joe in Philadelphia, including some of her own favorites off the menu. Lastly, we'll hear from our new Food, Farms, & Chefs friend, Chef Frank Benowitz as he and Amaris sat down to talk frankly about the food community, his own passion within the culinary world, and a little bit about what he is looking forward to throughout these coming holiday celebrations, as well as touching base on what he created during the Taste of Lancaster on and off stage.

The book chronicles Chef Rush's fight against poverty, racism, gender norms, and PTSD to become a master sergeant, celebrity chef, and a leading advocate for mental health awareness and suicide prevention among active US military members and veteran's organizations.Chef Rush became an overnight sensation in 2018 after a photograph of his now-famous 24-four-inch biceps--the by-product of 2,222 daily push-ups--went viral. From his childhood working on a farm, to developing into a gifted athlete and artist, to his joining the Army, Chef Rush has dedicated his life to serving others. During his 24-year military career, his reputation as an award-winning cook eventually led him to the White House, where he served under four United States presidents¬--Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama and most recently, Donald Trump. On September 11, 2001, Chef Rush was working at the Pentagon when American Airlines Flight 77 hit the building during the 9/11 terrorists' attacks. This event led to his suffering from PTSD and compelled him to become an outspoken advocate for the military and especially for wounded warriors."This book will take you on an almost unbelievable sequence of events - each chapter leading to something different and more mind blowing than the last," says Rush. "I wrote this memoir to tell a story that was never meant to be told, and in doing so, I realized that I had to tell this to inspire, empower, teach, and educate on a worldwide platform across all races, genders, religions, beliefs, as we are all the same."Every step of the way, Chef Rush has overcome tremendous obstacles, including battling stereotypes and racism. In this memoir, he shares not only his wounds and what he experienced along the road to recovery but also the optimism, hope, and hard-earned wisdom that have encouraged countless others."My challenge to the reader is to take a moment and stop, look at where you are in life, and then keep moving forward," explains Chef Rush. "Once you get to the top of life's mountains, turn around and help someone else."Rush adds: "Entitlement is huge in today's world, and my hope is that through self-reflection, gratitude, and humbleness, we can put down our entitlements and understand how blessed we are and realize how much we can help others who are struggling. We cannot forget that people are the most important thing in a culture where media, politics and personal agendas often outweigh decency."ABOUT CHEF ANDRE RUSHChef Andre Rush is a retired decorated combat Veteran known worldwide as the White House chef with the 24-inch biceps and for his advocacy for military service, as well as suicide prevention, which is why he does 2,222 push-ups a day: to bring awareness to the ongoing epidemic of mental health and suicidal ideation.Chef Rush uses food as medicine and therapy to helping military overcome depression, anxiety, PTSD, with a method called "Cooking to Cope." https://www.linkedin.com/in/martincjmongiellomba/ (Chef Marti Mongiello) is a story weaver intoxicating his audiences by stage and television across the world. A mesmerizing speaker, he’s published nine books, 200+ papers, and given over 100 speeches and keynotes in Europe, Asia, and America. Featured on CBS, PBS, ABC, NBC, CNN, and FOX to almost three billion viewers is only eclipsed by articles in 160+ newspapers and magazines like the Washington Post, LA Times, Australian, The New Yorker, FOOD TV Network Magazine, The Times of London, and many more. His latest television series is Inside the Presidents’ Cabinet. Marti is a former White House Chef, Private Investigator, Security Expert, Executive Chef, and a GM of the Camp David Resort and Conference Center working with the past five Presidents for 25 years, from H.W. Bush through Trump.   “Get a super-strong prenuptial agreement that covers everything. You will sleep well at night knowing that every eventuality is covered.” Marti Mongiello   Worst investment everMarti lived in Japan when he was contacted for a business partnership by a food service-oriented company that wanted to bring foodservice training online. They thought it would be great for their business to have a former White House chef as their brand’s face. Marti thought this would be a good idea given that he is a great presenter, business plan writer, and an excellent writer and storyteller. Knocking the plan out of the parkMarti flew to Arizona, where the company founders floated numerous stock certificates and bylaws to him. Marti was still in the military at the time and a bit naive as to how these things work. And so he missed critical statements in the founder’s document and in the bylaws, which were registered with the Secretary of State. Nonetheless, Marti sat with them for several days and honed the entire pitch. He went through several training sessions to perfect the pitch. They then flew to New York and presented their professional pitch to a hedge fund interested in their idea. They did a splendid job and got funded. The drama startsSoon after the funding came, Marti, got a phone call saying that the founders wanted to dilute everyone’s shares. Marti’s shares in the company would reduce from 33% to 4%. He was not thrilled about that, especially because it was not discussed with him before it was made. Per the bylaws, the founders formed a quorum, had a special meeting, and went ahead and slashed everyone’s shares. Then they sent him a check for 40 bucks for the shares that they took from him. Losing everything due to ignoranceMarti was not familiar with liquidation clauses or the various other clauses in the bylaws, such as unanimous voting. And because of his lack of knowledge, Marti lost everything he had worked hard for in this partnership. Lessons learnedAlways have partnership agreements that stipulate bylaws clearlyAlways have partnership agreements prepared before getting into a partnership. Squatters and liquidation clauses must be addressed in a partnership agreement, and so must the bylaws. Whether you are investing in the project or being part of a group that is launching a new product or service, these are just necessary provisions that have to be dealt with initially. Understand the liquidation clauseBefore getting into a partnership, discuss the liquidation clause. How is the company allowed to be liquidated? If you disagree about this as partners, it could get messy down the road. It is ok to retire old shareholders who are no longer contributing to the companyIf you have old shareholders who are no longer contributing to your company’s progress, it is good to remove them from the process. They can still own shares, but they should not be allowed to participate in the decision-making process. Just because someone funds your business does not mean they should run itBe careful when dealing with funders. Be sure to have it in writing, the extent to which...
