Hi Parents! If your teen struggles with anxiety, school refusal, or avoidance, you're not alone. Many parents unknowingly reinforce anxious behaviours by offering constant reassurance or making accommodations to reduce distress - but what if these well-intentioned actions are actually keeping your teen stuck? In today's episode, I sit down with Dr. Regine Galanti, a clinical psychologist who works with children, teens, and families navigating anxiety. We discuss why avoidance strengthens anxiety, how CBT strategies empower teens to face fears, and the role of parents in reducing accommodations while still providing support. Dr. Galanti offers practical steps to help your teen build resilience and confidence - without feeling overwhelmed. More About Dr. Galanti: She is a leading expert in anxiety, OCD, and behaviour challenges. She is the founder of Long Island Behavioral Psychology and has been featured in The New York Times and The Washington Post for her work in child and adolescent mental health. She is the author of:

Stāsta režisors Jānis Cimmermanis. Par leļļu filmu studiju šo to zināju diezgan sen. Dažas filmas arī bija redzētas. Pirmā tikšanās ar meistaru bija laikā, kad Leļļu teātris svinēja izrādes “Velniņi” jubileju: Atveras durvis, ienāk Arnolds Burovs, Arvīds Noriņš, Valentīns Jēkabsons un Gedimīns Kotello. Galanti kungi apsveic māksliniekus, jūtas kā sen gaidīti viesi. Vakara gaitā meistars Burovs uzaicina visus paviesoties leļļu studijā. Tā pirmo reizi skatījos leļļu kino uz lielā ekrāna. Bija daudz nesaprotama, neizskaidrojama, nezināma – kā to var dabūt gatavu? Kādu dienu mājās atskanēja telefona zvans no kinostudijas. Viņš piedāvāja man pamēģināt strādāt pie viņa. Viss bija jāsāk no nulles. Atkal no sākuma. Mūzika bija viena no viņa mīlestībām, – studijās konservatorijā viņš bija mācījies čella spēli. Protams, bija draudzība un tikšanās ar sabiedrībā populāriem cilvēkiem – Aleksandru Lembergu, Jāni Žīguru, Niklāvu Strunki, Albertu Terpilovski. Tas bija domubiedru klubiņš, kas tolaik radīja aizdomas un zināmu interesi dažādās valsts iestādēs. Par meistaru Burovu varētu uzrakstīt lielu, biezu grāmatu, grāmatu par unikālu cilvēku, mākslinieku, radošu personību, kurā būtu stāsti par viņa uzņemtajām ap 40 leļļu filmām: pašu pirmo “Ki-ke-ri-gū”,arī "Kozeti", "Bimini", Čārlijam Čaplinam veltīto triloģiju "Sapnis", "Princese un puma", "Pēdējā lapa", arī "Si-si-dra", "Tīģeris Ņau-ņau", "Papiņš" un vēl daudzām citām...

Questions: 1. What is a “Pickmeisha” and what are some common misconceptions about the term? Are PICKME'CHICKS Anxiously attached? Who are the ‘pick-me' girls? The term is used to describe a girl who does everything for external, mostly male validation. “(She) puts her friends down in the process in a way that doesn't seem like putting down her friends,” said clinical psychologist Regine Galanti, founder of the practice Long Island Behavioral Psychology in Long Island, New York, and the author of the young adult nonfiction book “Anxiety Relief for Teens.“ “It's hard to identify people who identify as a pick-me girl because it's seen as a bit of an insult,” Galanti said. “Nobody comes in to see me and says, ‘Hey I'm a pick-me girl.' They're like, ‘Someone called me one, and this is why it's not true.'”

FRIIIIDAAAYYY CLOSE! As we wrap up the first half of 2023 we're looking back as we talk about the next round of EV standard moves. We also talk about the retail level reception of Costco's latest crackdown on sharing memberships. As the mass adoption of Tesla's NACS charging standard has been dominating the news, the transition isn't quite as simple as you may think. Yesterday EV maker Polestar and EV motorcycle maker Verge Motorcycles announce a shift to the Tesla standardElectrify America, the largest competitor to Tesla's Supercharger network, which is majority owned by VW announced they will be adding Tesla's NACS standard to all of their almost 3,500 fast chargers by 2025 in addition to continuing to offer the current CCS standardChallenges include: Onboard software development, hardware design, incompatibility with current charging systems, charge port position, differences in charging speed, use of adapters, manufacturing modificationsTesla chargers don't have a screen and have a seamless handshakeAll Tesla charge ports are on the left rearPins in the harnesses serve different purposesTesla said in a statement: "It's always been our ambition to open the Supercharger network to non-Tesla EVs, and by doing so, encourage more drivers to go electric. More customers using the Supercharger network enables faster expansion. Our goal is to learn and iterate quickly, while continuing to aggressively expand the network, so we can eventually welcome both Tesla and non-Tesla drivers at every Supercharger worldwide."Costco has intensified the enforcement of its membership policy, with employees frequently asking to see shoppers' membership IDs with their photo at the self-checkout lanes drawing both cheers and jeersThe company noticed an increase in card sharing when they introduced self checkout lanes last yearCostco makes the majority of it's profits from membership feesChief financial officer Richard Galanti said during Costco's May 25 earnings call that at “some point we will” raise rates and cited inflation as a reason for waiting. “Our view right now is that we've got enough levers out there to drive business and we feel that it's incumbent upon us to be that beacon of light to our members in terms of holding them for right now,” Galanti said."I pay extra to shop somewhere to get the good prices," said Lisa Ladonski, another Illinois shopper. "It's not fair for multiple people to use one membership because let's say they all want to buy the same thing I do, they get to it and buy it and now I can't get what I need because they're taking advantage of the system."Get the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email ASOTU Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/automotivestateoftheunion

Today's episode investigates two largely forgotten figures from Hemingway's past: Lewis Galantière and Guy Hickok. Galantière was a critic who befriended Hemingway in the early Paris years, and they maintained a friendship and correspondence for many years. Hickok was Hemingway's journalist buddy who accompanied him through Italy for the notorious March 1927 trip that spawned “Che Ti Dice La Patria?”  To discuss these men and their respective relationships to Hemingway, we welcome their descendants and chroniclers: Mark I. Lurie, author of Galantière: The Lost Generation's Forgotten Man, and Rufus Hickok, author of The Paris Bureau: How a Brooklyn Journalist Survived Jazz Age Paris with Help from Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound and his Family.Join us for our two conversations as we learn more about these friends of Hemingway and the relationships they fostered through the formative years of the 1920s.
