In today's Mashup episode, we hear again from Greg Rice and Joana Makris their perspectives when it comes to leadership. Tune in for this engaging conversation about communication and connections in achieving success! In today's episode:Exploring the art of communication: learning to connect across cultures and transform livesAbraham Lincoln: a leader of compassion, humor, and perseveranceA new approach to leadership: looking inside to unify the person behind the leaderMain takeaways:The importance of connections and communicationLeadership involves motivating and helping people solve problemsFocusing on the person behind the leader, looking inside for solutionsQuotes:"You can have a better mousetrap, but you need the connections too." - Greg Rice"Leadership is about the same human being, and this is where the focus goes. The solution is to look inside." - Joanna MakrisConnect with Denis: Email: denis@leadingchangepartners.comWebsite: http://www.leadingchangepartners.com/Leadership Is Changing Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/LeadershipIsChanging/Leadership is Changing LinkedIn Page: https://www.linkedin.com/company/leadership-is-changing-podcast/
"If you solve the problem on the whiteboard, you're only 10% of the way there." - Greg Rice Sometimes I'm lucky to listen to a leader who walks the talk. Someone who exemplifies leadership in all they do, and genuinely cares about treating people right. The type of leader you'd want to work with, and work for. That person is today's guest, Co-President of Klick Health, Greg Rice. He shares valuable insights from his career journey, from his early days as a new pharmacist to being part of the leadership team at the world's largest independent health marketing agency. And we also chat about the famous Klick culture! In this episode, you'll learn: - How leaders can create clarity and calm amidst the chaos - Why aligning your values to your work is critical to long-term success - The importance of amplifying the voice of junior staffers - What makes Klick's culture so special vs. other companies..and much more! Don't miss it! Hiring the best talents When we go and pitch a large piece of business, sure the spec work that we showed them on that day is important, but we all know that spec work will never see the light of day. What they are buying into is the capability. And at that moment, we are also trying to build instant trust with them, and that comes down to the talent in the room. So if it's about talent, then from a leadership standpoint, we better try to find the best in the business and that's what we really strive to do. Delivering clarity as a leader A leader's job is to create calmness and clarity. And that level of clarity takes time and effort. And if you get stingy on that, it can bite you. It can result to this unsettled, exhausting atmosphere that lack of clarity creates within an organization. So make sure you pause and communicate. And for any change that happens, get a feedback and continue to refine that overtime and you'll be highly rewarded for that high amount of clarity that you delivered as a leader. Training your replacement Find and coach your replacement. What that means is scaling your capability to a point where you can have someone step in and you can focus your energies elsewhere, maybe into some new initiatives, new areas of interest or opportunities for you. That inherently means you coaching and guiding someone else into your role. That kind of scale mindset may not be applicable to all leaders in different roles, but certainly it has been for me in scaling and growing a successful business. “Your network is your net worth.” We have heard this advice for quite some time now, but many of you probably still wonder how to network the right way. If you’re one of those people, this episode will bring a ton of value to you. In this solo episode from the *Art of Communication Podcast with Greg Rice* ( https://gregjrice.com/podcast/ ) , he shared 3 actionable steps you can take now to build and grow your network in 2021 at a time when we still cannot meet personally due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The first step is learning the fundamentals of networking, which includes understanding your current network better. The second step is networking in the COVID-19 pandemic. This is an adjustment that we need to make because we are only allowed to meet virtually. How can we leverage these virtual meetups? The last step is about growing your network because networking doesn’t stop with merely talking to the other person. Let’s listen to this episode and build your network in 2021! Greg shares some amazing hacks for assessing personality through facial features. Why You're Able to Learn So Much From Facial Features: Your genetics feed into your facial structure and your personality. The perception of someones facial features feeds into their personality. Habitual patterns of expressions on the face. Basic Facial Reading Concepts: If they have bigger than average ears, they are more likely to be auditory. If their ears are lower than average, they're more likely to perceive information faster. If they are higher, they likely perceive information slower. If their eyebrows are curved, they're most likely a people person. If their eyebrows are straight, they're more likely analytical. If their eyebrows are pointy, they're more likely to desire control over a conversation. If their eyebrows are higher on their head, they are going to be slower to make decisions. If their eyebrows are lower, they're more likely to be quick to make decisions and let people in. The closer their eyes are together, the more attention to little details they likely have. If their eyes are further apart, they may have more of a big picture view. Greg Rice is the VP of Business Development for Double Fine, and was the producer of the Double Fine Adventure and Broken Age. Greg Rice also has a minor in dance. I was first exposed to Greg through the Double Fine Adventure, the excellent documentary by 2 Player Productions about the development of Broken Age. Games are such huge collaborative projects that it's rare to get such an insight into the people behind the scenes and the many hands that go into making a game. Greg seemed the perfect example of somebody who contributes so much to the development of a game, but whose hand may go unseen in the final product. I was delighted to talk to him. We talk about learning to read with Zelda, playing GTA as a tourist, why the Dreamcast is the greatest console, his experience playing VR Rez in the vibration suit and his unlikely journey to Double Fine via Opera Singing, Musical Theatre & training to be a doctor (!?) Is this heaven? No, it's Iowa. Games discussed: Super Mario Bros. Goldeneye, Rez, Guitar Hero, Proteus, Psychonauts, Destiny, 140 and The Lion King.

Our "real" guest got busted by the Man this week and gave him a baaaaad case of the Mondays. So John welcomes show moderator Greg Rice as the next candidate for best friendship. That's me, by the way, and frankly I didn't put my heart in it. But it's a lively conversation about broken glass and alcohol in auto travel mugs. Music by Louden Swain, as always. Thanks Robbie. P.S. Top 1-10 movies of the decade coming soon. It's timely!
John Ducey, television actor and fake father of the Jonas Brothers, lost his best friend when his childhood buddy Chris moved from LA. So with the help of moderator Greg Rice, John has conversations with not-best-friends in an attempt to find a New Best Friend. We start strong. In the opener, we welcome good-but-not-best-friend Robbie Benedict (aka Chuck Shurley from the CW's "Supernatural"). Robbie's band also supplies the intro-outro music for the show. Thanks to Louden Swain for the song "Better" from their new album, A Brand New Hurt. To hear the song with words, and lots of other great music, to www.loudenswain.com or search for Louden Swain on iTunes.
