For me, I was stuck in a cell 24 hours a day with absolutely nothing. At first it was just a lot of thinking, a lot of generating awareness around myself and my life. Most people lack awareness and they have this internal dialogue and these habitual ways of living that they're not even really in control of. They're almost like drones going through life. That was me Before prison. I was just going through the motions, doing what I did every day, not really seeing the bigger picture. This week on The Build Show Podcast, Matt and Michael Crane go deep and nerdy into vapor transference and wall forgiveness. Michael Crane is a business development manager with Rockwool, and he and Matt talk about the importance of water and insect control when building. They also discuss how Rockwool products are environmentally friendly, repel insects, and can be used above and below grade. They touch on vapor open and vapor closed systems and detail out a perfect wall, walking through what that could look like. Interested in the white papers that Matt and Michael mentioned? English-speaking churches in cities like Dubai or Bangkok don't appear to be the most missiologically strategic—at least on paper. But as with any local church, there's more to international churches than meets the eye. Dr. Michael Crane returns to the show to share the beauties, challenges, and unique blessings of expat fellowships abroad and multiethnic churches at home. Michael and his wife moved to Southeast Asia working in a variety of roles with development agencies. During this time, Michael completed a Ph.D. in urban missiology. Michael Crane (M.Div., Th.M., Ph.D.) loves cities and loves the church. Michael has lived in a number of global cities (Taipei, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, and San Francisco). He serves as faculty of two different seminaries and is a co-director of Radius Global Cities Network, an urban research think-tank that assists the church in seeking the welfare of the city. In addition, he is involved in training and equipping church planters through City to City. Michael has contributed to a number of books and articles on topics related to the city. How to become a millionaire: This episode of the one-to-a-million podcast is very different to what has gone before. For a change Michael Crane, the podcast host, finds himself in the guest seat, being interviewed about his own business experience, and the reasons behind the show.
Who wants to be a millionaire? This episode of the one-to-a-million podcast is very different to what has gone before. For a change Michael Crane, the podcast host, finds himself in the guest seat, being interviewed about his own business experience, and the reasons behind the show. What's the first step to becoming a millionaire? This question reflects the origins of the show, and Michael shares his insights on making money. While having a successful business is a major step in the process, there are some savvy ways to make your money work harder, grow faster, and give you an enviable lifestyle quicker. Michael talks from his own experience—early mistakes, lessons learnt, and his current successful approach. He shares it all, providing useful insight to anyone who has their eyes fixed on that goal. Is it possible to become a millionaire from your bedroom? When asked about the right and wrong way to start a business, Michael's answer was simple. The only wrong way is to not get started. His own experience was to start from his bedroom. Short of space and short of money to invest in a rented office, he had no choice. He talks about some of the lessons he learnt, and how young entrepreneurs can benefit, not just from his example, but also from his experience of how to do things differently. He knows that if he started the same business from scratch now, he'd be more successful in a lot less time. Do you need a six-figure income to be a millionaire? Michael has a strong belief that anyone has the potential to be a millionaire, if they have the right attitude and the right tools. While he can't do anything about your attitude, he is here to help you with the tools. He talks about money management, about how to make your money work for you, and not the other way around. He talks about the power of money to make money, and how to get started down that track, even if you think you're not yet in a position to do so. Listen in to find out more about his methods and how you can apply them yourself. One To a Million Project - The Young Entrepreneurs The one to a million project was conceived to help young, aspiring millionaires to get started in business, and equip themselves with the knowledge and tools to make their first million. The idea was to take them from zero, not even a business, and help them from the ground up. From coming up with business ideas, through all the stages of creating and building a business, to compounding their income and reaching that magical six zeros. As Michael explains, the project has evolved since the initial launch, and is currently in a revision phase. This means there is a fantastic opportunity for more people to get involved. If you might be interested, listen to the show to find out more about who the project is for and how to be a part of it. Is it possible to become a millionaire without going to college? Michael talks a lot in show about gaining knowledge, about needing a business education. For people wo dislike formal education, it is tempting to think that leaving school at the earliest possible opportunity and setting up a business, such as running a market stall, is their best option. There are certainly some high-profile life stories to support such a decision. However, those people are not necessarily typical. Michael refers to research which shows that there is a consistent correlation between income level and educational level. So while starting a business at a young age, and learning everything possible about how to run it effectively is something he recommends, it shouldn't be at the expense of other educational opportunities. In this episode, Troy has a conversation with Sean Michael Crane. After losing his parents to addiction, it didn't take long for Sean to start using drugs himself, beginning with alcohol and marijuana at 14 years old. Shortly after, Sean got involved with the wrong crowd and started using heavier drugs. Cut to nearly a decade later, it only took one moment for it to all come crashing down. Sean found himself at the wrong place at the wrong time. Facing a life sentence in Prison for a crime he didn't commit, Sean made the decision there and then to change his life and free his mind. Today, Sean is a Best Selling Author, Keynote Speaker, and Life Coach. Sean's story will inspire you to change your bad habits and replace them with positive, reinforcing habits that will IMPROVE YOUR LIFE. Enjoy the show! The Young Entrepreneurs - This is where the conversations really start to happen... Building a Team - The Power of SIX Does an Employee know more than the boss? Greed & Fear Rule your life Becoming more Skillful Recap Building a Team - The Power of SIX The Young Entrepreneurs - Hear on today's show what Mattia & Finn think about building a team from scratch. Right now, there are two of them, they want to build a team of SIX. Why, we feel that teams of six work the best in any business organisation and more importantly, different people bring different qualities, also needed in the most successful enterprises. The key to their development is to have a financial target of a £1,000, 000 business. Although along the way, they will be building on their skill set by becoming: A better Communicator Develop their skills in leadership Develop a better understanding of Sales & negotiations Finance Team Well Being and trust Marketing Does an Employee know more than the boss? The conversation moves swiftly on to the subject of, does the employee know more than the boss? Both boys suggest that an employee should know more than the boss and Michael completely agrees with this statement. On the basis, that when two or more people come together great things can happen. Therefore, we are building a team of six in the team, which will bring collaboration between members and will encourage communication and leadership as they build their business. If you have a 14 to 15-year-old young adult and are interested in business, please get in touch by emailing Michael@michaelcrane.live for a short application process to be accepted into the team and project. Please note: the founding members of the one to a million project will be the people choosing who will be joining the team. Greed & Fear Rule your life The Young Entrepreneurs are developing their interests and keen to explore areas of their business acumen right from the start. Although they are finding recording the podcast surreal, the topics and conversations at this early stage are encouraging to hear and see. In life, we all fear the unknown, similar to anyone stepping out in business on the first day of the journey. The young entrepreneurs are still studying at school, the one to a million protect is already seeing development in several key areas of their development. The fear of failure is always at the forefront of one's mind. It doesn't have to be this way if you have a plan of what you are doing, where you are going and what needs to happen in order for you to achieve your end results. The main thing we are focussing on right now is building routines each week, which over time become consistent. You have probably heard on previous podcast interviews Michael Crane had with his walking buddy Simon Teague. We recently walked The South Downs Way, which stretches from Winchester - UK to Eastbourne UK, Overall, it wasn't that far, only 120 miles from end to end. If you like what you hear on the podcast today, please don't forget to follow the show. If you have a young Entrepreneur that you think would like to join the team, please email michael@michaelcrane.live for an informal chat about being part of the one to a million project.
How has your business Suffered during the pandemic? Michael Crane shares his story by stating that the pandemic hit his business seven years prior. He employed 45 staff across two sites, one in South East London and the other site in Sandwich, Kent. He was operating a 24-hour operation with vans circling London and the home counties daily. At that time, he made many changes in the day to day operation and streamlined his operations. He outsourced his warehousing and logistics operations and adopted an e-commerce portal that does heavy back-office functions. Fortunately for him, he preserved cash, ready for all emergency situations. He advises on today's show about the importance of reducing overheads and preserving cash. Sean Michael Crane is a family man, best selling author, motivational speaker and life coach with an incredible story of perseverance and determination. He has used his hardships and life experience to reach others and inspire them to conquer their fears and pursue the life they have always dreamed of living just as he has. What was the biggest turning point in your life?: At 23, Sean Crane was sentenced to 7 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. With nothing positive to show for his life up to that point and a massive challenge ahead he had a decision to make. Would he give up and let the rest of his life pass him by like the first 23 did or could he face his fears, fight through the pain and pursue the life he always wanted.. From a small cement box Sean was able to take control of his life. He completely transformed his mentality, his routines, and the results he got in his life. “ In that cell I started to create the life of my dreams that I am able to live today.” “ If I did this from a prison cell, I promise you can take control of your life too! When is enough, enough? One dark Monday morning, Michael Crane sat in his office, with his head in his hands and said, "when is enough, enough?" He realized he needed to change and the time had come to pivot and take his business in a new direction, some people would say he was mad, he would say, when do you know you've had enough? In life there are many peaks and valleys, peaks are only short-lived and one should be grateful. But what happens when you do not have a plan when you arrive in a valley. We kick the podcast off with a Question and Answer session at the recent Kings Summit where Michael shares his journey to a packed virtual room of budding entrepreneurs, who are in business or are starting the dream of becoming a successful entrepreneur. His global travelling buddy and fellow entrepreneur Simon Teague is the Co-Host of the event.

From ESPN to CBS to the NCAA tournament to the French Open to the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece where he helped NBC win an Emmy for the coverage – Michael had just about done it all. Cut to the 2007 Masters in Augusta, Georgia. Michael was in town to work the biggest golf event of his life – and on the Monday morning of Masters week before reporting for duty, Michael decided to rob a bank. Yep, you read that right. And that’s where his redemption story takes off. Grab a club sandwich and some chips and listen to a comeback story where God is driving a life back above par. Ashlie: (00:18) Welcome back to another episode of Tactical Living by LEO Warriors. I'm your host, Ashlie Walton. Clint: And I'm your co-host Clint Walton. Ashlie: In today's episode, we're going to talk about a name that I literally want to put in my mouth, chew up, spit out, stomp on a million times, walk away from and never hear again. And that's Christopher Dorner. So just sit back, relax and enjoy today's content. Ashlie: (00:51) If you as a listener remember anything about this, I'm going to take you through the journey of everything that I remember for anybody that might be listening who doesn't. Speaker 2: (01:02) Back in February of 2013 it was all over the news. There was a suspect that murdered the daughter of an ex La police department captain and her fiancé. And in the beginning nobody knew who it was. And then something crazy started to happen because another murder took place. There was a Riverside police officer named Michael Crane that was ambushed by another suspect and quickly officers and detectives were able to link the two murders together. And as though that wasn't enough, there was this pattern. It was almost like an arsonist starting fires all over the place. Ashlie: (01:59) Because three additional police officers and personnel were shot and wounded. And in the midst of everything, Detective Jeremiah McCain was also shot. He exchanged gunfire. When they finally realized who this person was, this person was a former LAPD police officer. He was dismissed back in 2008 for making full statements. So that means from 2008 until February of 2013 some things started to manifest and I say manifest because if you were to read this psychos manifesto, you would see that he was very set in planning out what it was that he was going to do this day. I want you to take the listener through a bit about what you remember when all of this first started because this started as a murder and it turned into this nine day manhunt for this psycho. Clint: (03:13) I remember, you know, first hearing about the murders that happened in Orange County and I was like, well that sucks. Yeah. You know, it's just an unfortunate incident. Didn't think anything of it. Then when we found out it was this Guy Christopher Dorner, and we started hearing more and more come up with him and his manifesto and and everything else that was related around him. It started set off red flags. You know, after hearing about his manifesto, our agency, you know, we were tasked with writing two man units and focusing patrols just because the heightened awareness and this guy started targeting actual officers for no apparent reason. I remember the night that Michael Crane was shot, he, he was just getting off the freeway. I think they were getting ready, him and his trainee, we're going to go grab some coffee and this guy just pulled up next to him and just shot him. Clint: (04:24) Him and his partner both. And unfortunately Michael died in that incident later finding out that he was just going on a rampage pretty much anywhere and everywhere he could and creating havoc. But he knew that law enforcement was hot on his tail and that in turn turned to this outcry of people making reports and seeing his vehicle, seeing anything in everything, matching that description. And that kind of turned into a whole different problem in itself. In any incident instance like this, it creates a whole different problem because then we had the public helping us. But a lot of the times it's false reports, but we don't know if it's a false report or not. We have to approach every situation as we're given. And I recall a newspaper delivery man was shot in a city in La somewhere because he was driving the same vehicle and was driving fast towards officers and they believed he was possibly related or that was the shooter. And it's unfortunate that that men had to get injured off of it. But luckily who survived a few days later, they actually got a tip. And, and that's where the public's help helps us tremendously that he was seeing up in big bear area. And numerous agencies responded to that location. I know, I remember they were flying helicopters from La Police Department, the San Bernardino County sheriff's department, the San Bernardino Police Department went out there. And those were the main players involved in this instance. So after, uh, a brief pursuit following Christopher Dorner, they cornered them pretty much in a cabin. Clint: (06:32) There was almost a peace of mind now that, okay, well he's not in about out and about creating havoc. They positively identified him as that, but the real task had just begun, but we don't have to be on edge anymore. So when the swat teams started making their approach and everything that they do in could, he started shooting an officer's and that's when detective Jeremiah McKay got shot and another officer from the sheriff's department. And unfortunately that happened. But that's what most of us sign up for. It's most of us want to go out there and protect communities from madmen just like him. Ashlie: (07:24) And you talk about this sense of awareness, this, this heightened and intense knowing that there's danger. Ashlie: (07:36) Even more so than what you normally face. And I remember as the wife of a police officer also feeling that sense of awareness amplified. Ashlie: (07:49) I don't typically worry about you on a day to day. I'm very confident in your abilities. Ashlie: (07:58) But this was different. This was different because we knew there was an enemy really just looking for any officer that he could. And I would imagine any one that he did come across, he was targeting them directly and he would have shot without any sense of reserve. That's what, what the makeup was in his manifesto. That's what he was going for. And I know also the amount of overtime that you had to work was incredible. And that left me with a little bit more time with my own thoughts, I guess. And I just couldn't believe that this was happening. I couldn't believe that there was a literal trail from one incident to another for somebody nobody could find. Ashlie: (09:00) And I think that by having so much insight like he did from being a former police officer, he knew a lot of the tactics. He thought he was one step ahead of you guys the entire time until he no longer was. Ashlie: (09:19) And as cynical as this might sound... I also remember the upset from a lot of officers that this lunatic got to take his own life after what he took away from the life of so many other officers and their families. And it's just crazy to me. It's crazy because I wonder where it all started. You can read the manifesto, you can make up your own thoughts in your head, but something happened from 2008 to 2013 that I believe was really boiling for so many years and really being planned for so many years that there was no way to prepare. It's almost like going back to nine 11 back in 2001 and thinking about how methodical that was and how out of sight something like that was, especially for that time, nobody would've ever thought that a former police officer would go on a manhunt for other police officers the way that this guy did. Speaker 2: (10:35) And Clint, can you talk a little bit about the way that the agencies were able to come together, at least in your mind, the way that they did to finally find this guy and then make sure that problem was solved? Clint: (10:51) Tactically speaking, looking at every instance involved with it. It was great. You know, La, this was majorly LAPD [inaudible] investigation. Um, Riverside PD got involved when their officers were shot and killed and then the outlying agencies surrounding Riverside such as San Bernardino police department, Rialto Police Department, the San Bernardino Sheriff's department, they were afforded the opportunities to assist in any way that they could to assist those other agencies. And that goes into respect of when they located them in big bear, the sheriff's department, pretty much they got the tip and they located him. They chased him to where he later killed himself. But at that point you didn't have Ellie police department saying, no, we're taking over tactical control. You didn't have any of the other agency saying we're better than you, that we have more manpower to contain this right now. They allowed the agency jurisdiction that was there to really dictate what occurred at that incident. And that's what was great is the response was from so many agencies and so many officers just responded in, completely handled the situation to the best of their capabilities at that time. And there's, from my mindset, there was nothing, nothing negative that could be spun from it. Some people will say, well, the smoke grenades that they sent in to the house at the House on fire subsequently burned him. But he committed suicide before that even happened. Clint: (12:50) And you can't necessarily control those instances. In my mind, it's for me personally, I think it would've been okay if he burned alive. Ashlie: (13:02) I can't argue with that. Ashlie: (13:04) And there was no way that he was going to allow himself, at least from what I've learned and read about him to be shot by police officers. So I mean, he, he knew what he was doing. He knew that he wasn't going to hide in that cabin in big bear for long. Clint: (13:23) And he knew he wasn't going to be taken alive. And that's the scariest thing that we ever face as police officers. Ashlie: (13:35) I don't really know how to wrap today's episode up apart from really just wanting to give the, do justice to the four people who lost their lives and the three other that were wounded during this instance. Ashlie: (13:51) It's easy for people who aren't directly involved to allow time to go on, but in this episode, I just want to take a moment and just remember those that lost their lives. And as better, uh, situations like this are, there's also a gift to be found. And the gift is the empowerment and the learning that takes place on the backend of this. And when you're able to find those pieces of light, even in the darkest times, then you're really able to enjoy your Tactical Living. Balance. Optimize. Tactics. Dr. Michael Crane treats the selfless 911 responders who came to New York City from all over America to help the victims of the horrific attack on the World Trade Center that cost 2996 people their lives. Dr. Crane, who directs the World Trade Center Health Program at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, says the religious and moral lessons he learned growing up was behind his desire to counsel and help those first responders. It was what he thought about when he first saw the towers fall from a nearby Consolidated Edison office building where he was a medical director at that time. “I prayed at that moment that I would be able to help anyone who was hurt,” he said. “It was a prayer I grew up knowing the God of love, the Irish Catholic God from the Catholic Church.” Dr. Crane’s medical and psychological treatment of the 911 First Responders has won him their admiration and affection. “One thing I had forgotten was that I was always taught that God collects his chits,” said with
Mark Cain owns Dripping Springs Garden with his partner, Michael Crane. Located in northwestern Arkansas, Dripping Springs has about four acres in production, with half of that in cut flowers. Most of the flowers are sold at the Fayetteville Farmers Market, while the vegetables are sold primarily to local retailers and through a small CSA program. Mark shares the story of how Dripping Springs built the market for local, organic flowers, and how they continue to maintain a strong market presence in the face of increasing competition. We dig into the wedding market, practical farmers market strategies, pricing, and how to produce a high quality cut flower. We also hear about Mark’s journey to starting Dripping Springs in 1984, including his encounters with some of the giant thinkers of sustainable agriculture in the early 1980s. And we dig into how Dripping Springs manages to farm on steep hillsides with a minimum of erosion and a maximum of water harvesting, as well as the well-respected internship program at the farm. Mark also tells us about the work structures that they’ve put in place to maintain a vibrant quality of life more than thirty years into the farm. Dolby Atmos Enabled Speakers and Receivers When we first read the press release about Dolby Atmos enabled speakers, we'll admit, it sounded a bit puzzling and we found ourselves scratching our heads. Atmos enabled receivers? Sure, that makes sense, but what does it take to make an Atmos enabled speaker? We've never heard of a Dolby TrueHD enabled speaker, or a DTS-HD Master Audio enabled speaker. So what is the difference with Atmos that it needs, or can even provide, a special speaker? Background Dolby Atmos is a killer system for delivering multi-dimensional sound that can place and move specific sounds anywhere in the room, including overhead. It can even do this without the need for new speakers mounted overhead. The result is a captivating experience that can bring movies and TV shows alive all around you, in a movie theater and very soon, in your own home theater. Pioneer announcement Pioneer Electronics has announced a dedicated line of Dolby Atmos enabled Elite speakers and Elite SC series home theater receivers that will be Dolby Atmos upgradable via a firmware update available by the end of the year. The new for 2014 flagship Elite SC receivers will provide the multi-channel processing and necessary power required to transform your home theater into a Dolby Atmos theater. If you haven't been to an Atmos equipped movie theater, you owe it to yourself to check it out. The experience is impressive. You get so much more out of the movie when it is brought to life with an even more encompassing, multi-dimensional audio experience. Dolby Atmos brings the soundtrack to life, with sound coming at you from all directions, including overhead. It takes the notion of 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound to the next level. Getting this technology in the home will be awesome. But does it really require special speakers? It doesn't sound like it. The press release states that they are a new line of specially designed speakers that “will produce exceptional sound quality that brings the technology to life.” Does that mean other speakers won't also be able to bring the technology to life? Of course not. But will they be good speakers that work really well for the kinds of surround effects and experiences you want from Dolby Atmos? We'd venture to guess that they will be. Chris Walker, the director of AV product planning and marketing for the Home Electronics Division of Pioneer Electronics provided a little more detail in the press release. He said, “To ensure the best Dolby Atmos experience possible, Pioneer not only produced a series of ultra-high end receivers dedicated for the task, but also appointed Andrew Jones, our top speaker engineer, to design a speaker system worthy of the Elite brand and that can reproduce the sound quality that only Dolby Atmos can deliver.” So bottom line, they designed, built and tested them together to make sure they provided the best possible Atmos experience out of the box. Probably a marketing ploy, but an understandable one. Pioneer's claim is that their years of experience and expertise in home theater gave them the opportunity to develop a complete Dolby Atmos system with both receivers and speaker products. They believe that the availability of a single Pioneer branded system will provide better control of the Dolby Atmos experience and the advantage in delivering the technology. Excitement for Retailers as well “Dolby Atmos is the next step in home entertainment and it's really something you have to experience for yourself to understand how truly amazing it is,” said Michael Crane, Senior Director of Merchandising for Magnolia Home Theater and Design Centers. “We're looking forward to demonstrating the technology in our Magnolia locations through Pioneer's complete Dolby Atmos-enabled system.” Bottom line The truth, at least what we hope will be the truth, is that Dolby Atmos will probably be pretty cool in your home. Will you need the special Atmos enabled speakers? No. Will they somehow enhance the experience? Our honest gut reaction is that they won't, unless you're upgrading from inferior speakers at the same time. We'll have to wait and listen to them for ourselves, but on paper, we just aren't seeing it. Get the receiver, listen to the speakers for yourself. Not just Pioneer And of course, the Atmos technology isn't unique to Pioneer. Onkyo has also announced a line of Atmos-enabled receivers. The THX Select2 Plus-certified 9.2-channel TX-NR1030 Network A/V Receiver will have an MSRP of $1,699, the 11.2-channel TX-NR3030 Network A/V Receiver will sell for $2,399, and the THX Ultra2 Plus-certified PR-SC5530 Network A/V Controller will go for $2,499. All three are expected to be available in August and will all support HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.2, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, DTS Neo:X and ISF Video Calibration support. Onkyo press release: “With Dolby Atmos, sound comes alive from all directions, including overhead, to fill the home theater with astonishing clarity, power, detail, and depth. Dolby Atmos multi-dimensional sound places and moves sounds around the room, like a bird chirping or rainfall from above, to make every sonic element come alive. All three Onkyo components feature Dual 32-bit DSP engines to decode, scale and calibrate Dolby Atmos to suit individual home theater configurations. With up to 11 channels of high-current amplification, users can unlock the full experience with in-ceiling height channels or Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers to augment a standard 5.1, 7.1, or 9.1 home theater setup.” Sounds like Onkyo will be selling special Atmos-enabled speakers as well...
