Matthew Modine "is one of the best, most adaptable film actors of his generation," says The New York Times. Modine's iconic portrayals in films such as Alan Parker's BIRDY, Louden Swain in VISION QUEST, Stanley Kubrick's FULL METAL JACKET, and Dr. Martin “Papa” Brenner in Netflix's global phenomenon STRANGER THINGS have cemented his legacy in the entertainment industry. Modine recently starred in the Netflix political thriller series "Zero Day," where he plays the Speaker of the House. If you watch this Cybercrime Magazine video interview with Modine, then you might also call him an expert on the good, the bad, and the ugly that artificial intelligence (AI) brings to society. Our host Sam White dives deep into AI, the Internet, cybercrime, privacy, surveillance, and a whole lot more with Modine. Modine draws parallels between George Orwell's “1984”, the famous dystopian novel and cautionary tale, and what we are living through now in the age of AI. Despite his concerns around AI, Modine touts the benefits of it, namely its potential for sharing medical information during epidemics, helping to feed starving people around the globe, and more. If AI could play a role in taking down the U.S. power grid, then Modine helps us imagine what that might be like. Modine gets personal with Cybercrime Magazine and shares his love for New York City, his experience working with Robert De Niro, and a deepfake song involving George Michael and Wham! This interview may be Modine like you've never seen him before. Visit the Official Matthew Modine Website at https://matthewmodine.com. Welcome back to another episode of The Video Store Podcast, where we dive into some classic films you might want to add to your watchlist. This week, I am focusing on two sports, one dance and a coming-of-age story with a side of sports from the late '70s and '80s. I've picked out four films that capture the character with determination, who try to succeed despite the against them.Breaking Away (1979)This charming film follows a group of friends in Bloomington, Indiana, who are trying to find their place in the world after high school. The story centers around Dave, a young man obsessed with Italian cycling. What makes "Breaking Away" stand out is its authentic portrayal of friendship and the tension between townies and college kids. It artfully crafted, and the film won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.Vision Quest (1985)"Vision Quest" is a story about a high school wrestler named Louden Swain, who is determined to drop two weight classes to take on the best wrestler in the state. This film is a great blend of sports action and personal growth. Look out for a young Madonna performing "Crazy for You" in one of her early film appearances. It's a testament to the lengths one will go to achieve their goals.Lucas (1986)This heartwarming film tells the story of Lucas, a small, nerdy kid with a big heart, navigating the complexities of high school life. Corey Haim delivers a memorable performance (my favorite of his), and the film features early roles for Winona Ryder and Charlie Sheen. "Lucas" tackles themes of acceptance, friendship, and the pain of unrequited love. It's a near-genuine portrayal of the highs and lows of adolescence. Listen to the commercial I play in the show, it's very misleading.Tap (1989)"Tap" showcases the incredible talent of Gregory Hines as Max, a former tap dancer turned burglar trying to reclaim his passion for dance. The film beautifully blends the art of tap dancing with a compelling storyline about redemption and the pursuit of one's true calling. The dance scenes are a highlight, featuring legendary tap dancers like Sammy Davis Jr. It's a must-watch for fans of dance. These four films offer a mix of people on different paths, but each one provides a unique perspective on the struggles and triumphs of determined people. I hope you enjoy these recommendations and find some new favorites to revisit. Over drinks, Berly and LA chat with musicians, Billy Moran and Zackary Darling. Conversation mainly revolves around their experiences producing acclaimed albums with Dick Jr. and the Volunteers ("The Dance and How to Do It" and "Fistfights and Hug-outs"), Louden Swain ("No Time Like the Present", "Saturday Night Special", and "Splitting the Seams"), and the Station Breaks self-titled debut, as well as Billy's solo album, "Surprise Party for the Introvert". Now, let's get tipsy! CW/TW for violent and lewd commentary; listeners beware!
Frank Jasper, known for his role as Brian Shute in the cult classic wrestling film "Vision Quest," joins us for episode 261 of Airey Bros Radio. During the episode, Frank takes us on a trip down memory lane and talks about his epic weight cut for his role, which was quite different from Matthew Modine's role as Louden Swain. Frank also shares how his time in Hollywood led him to become a Holistic Health Care practitioner, and how he returned to working with wrestlers, helping them with weight management, and properly fueling themselves through the daily grind of training and preparation for competitions such as the United States Olympic Trials.Stay ConnectedFrank's InstagramFacebookShute Shirts
Rob Benedict is an actor who has appeared in more than 100 episodes of television including Supernatural, Lucifer, Masters of Sex, Bosch and Felicity. Film credits include Waiting with Ryan Reynolds, Kicking & Screaming with Will Ferrell, Not Another Teen Movie and 30 Miles from Nowhere. Upcoming projects include season 4 of The Boys for Amazon Prime and the movie Connescence with Keven Bacon. He is also the lead singer of LA based rock band Louden Swain.
Jake is up this week and he has brought the serious heat! Not only with one of his favorite movies, but with a star driven 80's film that definitely flew under any type of radar around in this era! As per instruction; Danial & Matt watch the 1985 film "Vision Quest" for the first time. Sounded like a video game. Just didnt realize is a "wad contest". From getting his wad grabbed (if you wanna know the truth about it), to being a thirsty salmon swimmin up a furry river, dropping weight to be great in order to take on (soon to be Super Bowl Champ) Christian McCaffery; to doing the lord's work. Arrogantly sniffin the undies of a drifting homeless bird and yet navigating the veritable forest. Louden Swain fucks… eventually.

On this episode of the Adventures of Pipeman, Pipeman speaks to Louden Swain, who have released some awesome new music they have and are here to share with us.The guys start by talk about how they sound, and they describe themselves as lots of energy, a sense of humour and a well weathered rock, which Pipeman believes is the perfect explanation for their music. They go on to talk about the pandemic and how it helped them create some of the best music they've made, using the energy they had pent up after being locked down. The guys talk about writing their song, and how they share the responsibilities but also have their own personal touch. It's always been a collaborative effort for them team and always shoot back and forth when making the decisions. Rob talks about how cathartic and therapeutic it was to write the new album and how it helped him a lot given the tough couple of years he's had. He talks about how he sometimes uses his music as a journal entry. He also touches on how awesome it is when people say that their songs have helped them through moments of their own. You can find all the information you could possibly need over at their website through loudenswain.com for all the merch and information. You can also check the guys out on Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Facebook to get all of their content. When Louden Swain began working on the band's tenth studio album, Feelings and Such, the world looked much different than it had two years earlier. The band's frontman, Rob Benedict, had gone through a divorce. Bassist Michael Borja had recently lost his father. Everyone's lives had been altered by the pandemic that brought everyday life to a standstill for months on end. It was a time of uncertainty and change. What remained the same, though, were the creative bonds shared by Louden Swain's four members. "We're like brothers," says Benedict, who co-founded the long-running group in 1997. "It's been that way since the very beginning. We're all very committed — to each other, to the music, to the band — and that's what holds Louden Swain together."With its combination of rock & roll swagger and melodic jangle, Feelings and Such isn't just the finest record of Louden Swain's 25-year career. It's also a testament to the shared history and musical chemistry that continue to fuel the band's output. Co-produced by Louden Swain and longtime collaborator Zackary Darling, Feelings and Such is stocked with emotive, electrifying songs about pushing past challenges and turning one's struggles into salvation. It's an album rooted in trials and triumphs, whipped into shape by a band of rock & roll lifers who've had plenty of experience with both. Formed in Los Angeles and named after a character in 1980s film Vision Quest, Louden Swain made its official debut with 2001's Able-Legged Heroes. Albums like 2009's A Brand New Hurt, 2014's Sky Alive, and 2017's No Time Like the Present followed. With drummer Stephen Norton and guitarist Billy Moran rounding out the group's lineup, all four members shared songwriting duties, turning Louden Swain into a true collaboration. The guys embraced their independence, too, making music on their own terms while steadily becoming an internationally-beloved band. Along the way, Benedict earned acclaim not only as a singer, but also as a film and television actor. Both jobs showcased his work as a genuine storyteller, and Louden Swain's audience expanded as he made regular appearances on shows like Felicity and Supernatural. Louden Swain even became the house band at Supernatural conventions across the country. "I used to think that acting and singing in a band were two different things," Benedict admits, "but now I know they're not. They're part of the same melting pot. We'll play to 2,000 people at a Supernatural convention, and everyone will sing the lyrics back to us. Then we'll play a club show somewhere else, and those fans will travel from other countries to see us. Our fans are amazing, and we don't take any of this for granted."Gratitude and togetherness are major themes of Feelings and Such. Louden Swain's previous album, Foolish, had been recorded during the height of the pandemic, whose restrictions required the bandmates to individually record their instruments in isolation. "We wrote the songs while apart and recorded our parts separately," explains Benedict, who also released a solo album during that quarantined period. "Once we could actually play together again, there was so much joy and energy between us. You can hear that on the album. It feels very much alive."Feelings and Such was largely recorded during an inspired weekend that found the bandmates occupying the same space once again, locking eyes with one another and exploring their new songs together in real time. The electricity was palpable. "There's The Rub" and the anthemic "Crystal Ball" were rehearsed in a single day and recorded the following afternoon. The groove-driven "Every Little Thing" evolved out of a casual jam. "Guilty One" — a roadhouse rock & roll anthem with a monster guitar riff — shone a light on the band's humor, with lyrics partially inspired by the band's detainment in an immigration jail cell during a European tour. Perhaps most importantly, songs like "Bring It In" found Louden Swain distilling the challenges of the modern era into messages of hope and resilience. "'Bring It In' is about me coming to terms with my divorce and finding something positive about the situation," says Benedict, who doubles as the band's lyricist. "It takes a look at everything I experienced — isolation, guilt, feeling alone — and ultimately embraces those feelings. It's a song about being in the moment. We always try to find something hopeful in our music, especially the songs that are very vulnerable and open. We're always looking to make lemonade out of lemons."Now a quarter-century into a thriving career, Louden Swain's members continue to look on the bright side during moments of darkness and doubt. Feelings and Such is a tribute to that tenacious spirit. Created in the wake of a global upheaval and personal struggle, it's a collection of optimistic rock & roll songs that reflect upon the past, take stock of the present, and focus on the future. And for Louden Swain, the future looks bright. "It's a bit of a rebirth," Benedict adds. "In our lives, so many things ended at the same time. Supernatural ended. My marriage ended. We've been dealing with the loss of parents and partners, and that can be a scary transition, but there's excitement to be found in the new unknown. Life carries on and you find your next chapter. You never know what that next chapter might bring, and that's the scary part… but it's also the exciting part." Take some zany and serious journeys with The Pipeman aka Dean K. You never know what that next chapter might bring, and that's the scary part… but it's also the exciting part." February is Sports Movie Month at Catching Up On Cinema! This month we'll reviewing films that center around some of our favorite sports. First up, Kyle introduces Trevor to the sport of wrestling via Harold Becker's Vision Quest (1985)! Starring a young Matt Modine as standout varsity wrestler (from Spokane, WA!) Louden Swain, the film is a coming of age tale based on a novel by the same name. While the story is more precisely centered on the development and human drama of a young man during a pivotal moment in his life, the film is nevertheless a very effective sports drama, with much of the wrestling training and choreography having a grit and roughness to it that is rare in film, especially at the time of it's release.

Elmo from Vision Quest once said, it ain't the six minutes, it's what happens in that six minutes. So with that in mind, here comes the most cram-packed six minutes of wrestling news, although, I typically don't care about how long or short this show is, this is Short Time Shots, a look back at the day's wrestling scores and more. I'm your host, Jason Bryant and I was too young to be an extra in Vision Quest. So the Vision Quest theme has been a constant this week. On Day 302 and 303 of #WrestlingShirtADay, I rocked shirts from RedBubble.com with Thompson High and Hoover High wrestling teams. Louden Swain, as many of you know, represented Thompson, while Brian Shute was a Hoover guy. Of note, his name was Gary Shute in the book. I still recommend reading the book if you get a chance. It won't ruin it for you, but you wrestling people out there might actually relate to it more so than the Hollywood depiction where sometimes fictionalization is more engaging to a viewer. What isn't fiction is the bit of wrestling history that unfolded on Thursday night in the Southern Conference. Davidson has been one of Division I's doormats pretty much forever. It's rare the Wildcats even win a conference dual, and most of the time when they did, it was against VMI or Campbell. But with Campbell improving, that's likely a thing of the past. One thing the Wildcats program had NEVER done -- beat The Citadel -- that is, until Thursday night when Davidson ended a 54-match winless streak against the Bulldogs in a 25-15 win, the first SoCon win of the season for Andy Lausier's squad. Davidson's wrestling program started in 1920 and the earliest results we can find were from the 1962 season. I'm not saying this to kick The Citadel when they're down, it has been a rough year in Charleston, but Davidson doesn't win duals like this -- until now. Wins at 125 and 141 helped Davidson pull away late with Michael McClelland's first career victory, a tech fall at 125, and Dustin Runzo picking up the W at 141 to close things out. McClelland was 0-16 on the season coming into the dual. Also down tobacco road, Duke used technical falls in the last two matches of the dual to get past Appalachian State 25-17. Technical falls by Mitch Finesilver and 157 and Zach Finesilver at 165 gave the Blue Devils the win. Harvard beat Brown 21-12 in what was dubbed the downtown showdown in downtown Providence. The other half of that showdown saw Division III's fourth-ranked team, Johnson & Wales, beat in-state rival Roger Williams 28-12. Lonnie Morris and the crew with great promotion there. Keeping it in Division III for a bit, No. 18 Centenary beat Delaware Valley 33-14 and Centenary head coach John Garriques earned his 100th career victory as the Cyclones head coach. He's done a fine job there in Hackettstown, New Jersey. In a battle of two of our nation's smaller service academies, a win by Victor Raigoza at heavyweight was enough to give the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy a 19-16 upset victory over No. 22 Coast Guard on Thursday. The Mariners, YES, MARINERS, trailed 16-10 before Raigoza's winning decision was set up by Blake Bunce's fall at 197 pounds. Late heroics were also needed as No. 24 Central College survived a scare in the Iowa Conference from Simpson. The Dutch, yes, Dutch, trust me on this one, got the match-winner from top-ranked 125-pounder C.J. Pestano. The All-American earned a technical fall in the dual's final bout to close things out. Another notable from Division III was No. 12 North Central won the CCIW - that's the Collegiate Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin - championship on Thursday, outdistancing second-place Millikin 125.5-114.5. The Cardinals won two individual titles and had four runners-up. Heading back over to Division II, No. 1 St. Cloud State remained unbeaten, improving to 18-0 and winning the program's 27th straight dual. The Huskies wrap up their Northern Sun schedule on February 15 against Augustana -- the one in South Dakota. And file this under things that can only happen in college sports - Indiana Tech beat Lourdes University of Ohio 30-15 in the NAIA. This was a conference dual. Not super strange since the schools are two hours apart. The thing is, they're both affiliate members of the SOONER Athletic Conference. Like Oklahoma. To get from Lourdes to conference foe Wayland Baptist down in Plainview, Texas? Nearly 1,300 miles. I should be used to it with my alma mater in the same conference as UTEP, which is 2,000 miles away from Norfolk. You'll need a couple hundred episodes of Short Time Shots to make that drive. Rob Benedict is an accomplished actor with a long list of television and film credits. You may recognize him from his work on shows like Felicity, Supernatural and Alias. He has guest starred on The Mentalist, NCIS: Los Angeles, CSI, House and many more. His film credits include Waiting, A Little Help, State of Play and Not Another Teen Movie. At the 2013 Comic-Con in San Diego he debuted a short film that he wrote, produced and starred in called The Sidekick. The film has an amazing cast that includes Ron Livingston, Jordan Peele, Lizzy Caplan, Martin Starr and more. The story centers around the life of an out of work sidekick as he contemplates what to do next. Rob is also the frontman for the band Louden Swain, whose first few records I had the pleasure of working on. Their 5th full length album Sky Alive has just been released. Last year at a Supernatural convention in Toronto Rob had a stroke caused by a tear in his carotid artery and in this interview he talks candidly about what it was like to recover.

So Robbie and Ducey decide to have a sushi dinner on their own, to make this Best Friend thing a reality. But 30 minutes in they call in Rice so we can turn it into a podcast. Or was this an easy way to knock off a podcast while having some saki? Listen for the fate of the American Sitcom, how to live forever, and who was sercretly mean in the 2008 election. Music by Louden Swain and Matt Thompson, cause it is.
We are joined by Tigerfeet with Secret Agent Cat, JR with GuildFans, and Louden Swain to talk in depth, once and for all, about the guardian profession.

If you want stories about debauchery, including shock collars, Laurel Canyon nudity, and pancake syrup, then this is the episode for you. If anyone wants to fund a documentary of Survivor Nights, here is your pitch. Music by Louden Swain (hi Robbie!)
My guests are: actor Rob Benedict ("Supernatural") and his guitarist Billy Moran ("Louden Swain") plus sensitive Stacey Marsh ("Spiritually Speaking"). To hear this show: http://www.latalkradio.com/Sheena.php For more info: http://www.sheenametalexperience.com
Ducey may have lost his Best Man, but his Best Woman is still in LA, and ready to take on the mantle of John’s New Best Friend. Nicole Sullivan joins us to discuss Elective Cat-Scans, Malcolm Gladwell’s Connector Theory, and why we’re all f*cked. Nikki and Ducey have such a long, storied past, so like JP's this will be a multi-part episode. At least two parts, but dare it go for a record three-peat? And like every episode it seems, we had a new audio problem to deal with – this week Greg’s mic blew out around 15 minutes in. But honestly, you won’t even notice. I’m not what you would call a “paid” comedian, so I edited out most of my asides and demands for attention. (The mic issue is fixed in the follow-up Nikki episodes, I'm sorry to say.) Music, as always, is by Louden Swain.
Every 4 episodes, we bring back our own Tony Randall, Robbie "Supernatural" Benedict. Does bringing Robbie back so much mean he is going to be a finalist? Of course not. BUT music as always is by the great Louden Swain.
"So... when you made a fake lottery ticket..." Our tense conclusion with JP Manoux. WHEEEEEEEEE! Music by Louden Swain
JP Manoux joins us... JP and Ducey are long time friends, Disney channel co-workers, and... lets just say they have a past. A past with no shortage of issues that we had to work through. And after two hours of podcast, we may have barely scratched the surface. Since this was such an epic conversation, we are splitting it into two parts. Forgive the abrupt cliffhanger... but we will pick up the 2nd hour in a week. After the podcast, we all had a smoke on Ducey's porch, hugged it out, and began the initial planning of John Ducey Day. Music as always by the terrific Louden Swain...
Our Thrilling Conclusion. Which Christian Bale movie will make Devin's list? Which Vivica Fox movie will make mine? Music by Louden Swain.
Our "real" guest got busted by the Man this week and gave him a baaaaad case of the Mondays. So John welcomes show moderator Greg Rice as the next candidate for best friendship. That's me, by the way, and frankly I didn't put my heart in it. But it's a lively conversation about broken glass and alcohol in auto travel mugs. Music by Louden Swain, as always. Thanks Robbie. P.S. Top 1-10 movies of the decade coming soon. It's timely!
OK, it's been tough to schedule our next guest, mainly because the NFL playoffs are very important things to watch on television. So as a sort-of, kind-of treat, Greg and past guest Devin Barry decide to rank their top 20 movies of the past decade. If you are a movie nerd, you'll love this. Otherwise, well... Ducey and Greg are in Vegas this week (we did not win, thanks for asking). So to stretch this out, you get Part 1 now of the movie nerd fest (films 20-11), followed by Part 2 (the top 10) next week. After that, we will be back on our regular recording. Otherwise, feel free to argue with us at duceybestfriend@gmail.com Music, still by Louden Swain. Go Colts. 18 is coming.
My guests are: actor and musician Rob Benedict ("Supernatural") and his Louden Swain guitarist, Billy Moran, plus actor and producer La Monde Byrd ("Mad Men"). Technology ain't got nothing on the My New Best Friend podcast. After the dog ate our file, we regroup a day later with a 'live' (ne in-person) episode with graphic designer and award-winning color maven Molly Kloss. Can Ducey have a platonic female best friend? Only if she shares his love of sushi, playing cards, and scrap-booking. So, yes. Molly also used to date someone who is unimportant to this conversation. Music, as always, is by Robbie's band, Louden Swain. www.loudenswain.com
The Terror of “The Search for Santa Paws” is now over, and our beloved John Ducey is back home. Greeting him is young whipper-snapper Devin Barry (actor and co-host of the Flick Fights podcast, official podcast of Flickchart.com). Devin regales us on his internet based twitter web 2.0 relationships and other things that Ducey and Greg are too old to understand. We also finish the "What Would Ducey Pick" movie game from last week. Will Devin's predictions be perfect, or be undermined by Greg talking up the other films too much? Music is, as always, from Robbie Benedict's Louden Swain (he is always with us)! Look for Louden Swain on iTunes or loudenswain.com.
Matt Corboy joins us. Matt played Ray Carlson on "The Shield" (the best cop show of all time despite what Greg says...), but you may also know him as the color commentator to the world. Is Matt's encyclopedic knowledge of Ducey's filmography genuine, or driven by IMDB? Will we ever know? Greg also makes a Norm Crosby reference. Music, as always, is by Louden Swain. Look for their new album "A Brand New Hurt" on iTunes!
This week, we welcome hilarious comedy actor and mix-tape expert Ike Barinholtz (MAD-TV, Meet the Spartans). Can the man who can jump the line at Magic Mountain jump the line to John Ducey's heart? Ducey is calling from his Disney Channel movie set home for the next few weeks, so we are going to have a several Skype shows in a row before all parties are back in LA. If he is allowed back. Our music the song "Better" from Louden Swain. Find this track (with lyrics) and more from their new album, A Brand New Hurt, at www.loudenswain.com or at iTunes.
John Ducey, television actor and fake father of the Jonas Brothers, lost his best friend when his childhood buddy Chris moved from LA. So with the help of moderator Greg Rice, John has conversations with not-best-friends in an attempt to find a New Best Friend. We start strong. In the opener, we welcome good-but-not-best-friend Robbie Benedict (aka Chuck Shurley from the CW's "Supernatural"). Robbie's band also supplies the intro-outro music for the show. Thanks to Louden Swain for the song "Better" from their new album, A Brand New Hurt. To hear the song with words, and lots of other great music, to www.loudenswain.com or search for Louden Swain on iTunes.
