In this episode, we break down why long-term team members resist change, how that resistance impacts your practice growth, and what you can do as a leader to move your team forward without constant conflict or burnout. Resistance isn't laziness or incompetence — it's human nature. When you understand what's really driving it and learn how to lead through it, you can create a culture where growth is expected, supported, and sustainable. What You'll Learn in This Episode • Why long-term team members often resist new systems and workflows • How inheriting a practice amplifies resistance to change • The hidden fears behind team pushback (and why it's not personal) • How resistance slows growth and contributes to owner burnout • Why leadership — not enforcement — is the real solution • How to set expectations around growth and evolution • Why doubling down on training (not stopping) is key • The importance of accountability when implementing change • Practical strategies to get team buy-in and ownership • When it's necessary to recognize that a team member may not be the right fit Practical Steps Discussed 1. Communicate Your Vision Clearly Help your team understand why change is happening. 2. Involve the Team When people help build systems, they're more likely to follow them. 3. Celebrate Small Wins Recognize progress and reinforce positive behavior. 4. Create Standards and Structure Systems must be non-negotiable to stick. 5. Lead by Example Your willingness to evolve sets the tone for the entire practice. 6. Know When It's Not a Fit Not everyone will grow with your vision — and that's okay. Final Thought Building a culture that embraces change doesn't happen overnight — but it's the difference between a practice that survives and one that truly thrives. Resistance is part of the process. The more you accept that, the easier it becomes to lead through it. Work With Me If you're ready to build a team that supports growth and gives you true freedom in your practice, book a consult for SMDP.
How to Know When It's Time to Pivot: Lessons From Our Crisis and Studio's RelaunchA framework for teachers and studio owners to reassess, realign, and rebuild with clarity.Every movement professional reaches a moment when something feels “off.”Sometimes it's a quiet resistance. Sometimes it's a deep fatigue. A crisis. And sometimes, it arrives all at once.In this relaunch episode of The Pilates Exchange, Hannah shares why she and Christian paused, reassessed, and began reshaping their work and lives after years of building a studio, a team, and an online platform — while slowly losing themselves in the process. This episode isn't about dramatic reinvention. It's about noticing earlier, listening more closely, and making thoughtful changes before burnout decides for you.We explore why regular check-ins matter, how misalignment often hides in plain sight, and what it looks like to take responsibility for the systems we create — personally, professionally, and as leaders in the movement industry. This conversation sets the tone for the next chapter of The Pilates Exchange: one rooted in sustainability, clarity, and honest reflection. In the next episode, Christian and Hannah share the full story of the pivot that reshaped everything.Resources Mentioned

In this episode of the Tactical Living Podcast, hosts Coach Ashlie Walton and Sergeant Clint Walton explore the fine line between coping and concealment when it comes to dark humor in first responder culture (Amazon Affiliate). It's no secret that police, fire, EMS, and military professionals often use humor to process tragedy. The jokes, sarcasm, and morbid one-liners can bond a team through chaos — but they can also become emotional armor that hides deeper pain. We break down why dark humor develops, how it can help or harm, and what happens when laughter becomes the only way to survive the job.

At some point, you are going to have a fork in the road and choices to make that may leave you wondering what is right for you. I have a lot on my plate at the moment, and it's bringing up a lot of questions about where my business is going, the kind of products I want to sell, how I want to show up online, and what I want my life to look like. Obviously, I could just keep going as I have been, but I have had this inkling inside of me that something is supposed to change. Connect with Abagail Instagram All the Links! While I don't necessarily know what, I know that things are moving in a new direction. During my discovery process of trying to figure these things out, a question came up for me: Am I choosing this change because it's the right next step, or am I trying to escape something? Is this for growth, or am I running away? Running away from something because it scares you often is the wrong decision, so I spoke to my therapist, who gave me some great advice about this topic, and I wanted to share it with you today. If you can feel in your bones it's time for a change but you are still questioning it, this episode is for you. Can you make that change? We all go through pivots in every aspect of our lives and the best way to navigate those changes is by connecting to your intuition for guidance. How to Know When It's Time For A Change Usually when it's time to shake things up your intuition will be giving you nudges or signs. We may find it hard to trust those messages for ourselves. Especially if what you're being led to do goes totally against the direction your logical mind would take. Intuitive Messages That You Need To Change These messages are going to come in through your primary intuitive language so it may be unique to each person. Listen as Whitney gives you some examples of how she has seen these messages present for each of the intuitive languages. Symptoms to Look For When It's Time For A Pivot Symptoms are most likely going to align with your primary intuitive languages. For example if you're a channeler you may experience physical changes that are pushing you to a certain outcome. Let's go through some of the examples of how that might show up for you. When your attitude towards something changes noticeably it may be time for a change or pivot and we'll go through how this could materialize in your experience. How Do You Know When To Give Up and When To Stay “In It” If some of the symptoms you experience are having a negative impact externally it may be time to not just pivot but change completely. If your health is being affected (mental or physical) it is mostly time to take a real hard look at exactly how you feel and let your intuition help you re-evaluate the best path forward. How Not To Hit The Spiritual Brick Wall When you have multiple symptoms showing up and you're seeing repeating patterns resulting from the decision you're making it is imperative to listen and evaluate at that point. The easiest way to hit the spiritual brick wall, where it's no longer a choice to change but an unavoidable necessity. Questions You Should Ask to Evaluate Why Something Isn't Working Whitney recaps the question each symptom should bring up to help you decide if and/or what might need to change or pivot in your life, relationship, or business. Needing to change or pivot isn't a negative sign something is wrong. It may simply be the next right action on your unique journey. Here's to staying Spiritual and Ambitious. This is episode two in our series of retirement planning headlines and what they may or may not mean for your upcoming retirement. Our little round roundup of things we've read over the last couple of weeks that are out there in the media. Watch on YouTube HERE Charlie Munger Our lead story is an interview with Mr. Charlie Munger, who sadly passed away just a few days ago on November 28. He was 99. Charlie Munger is best known as Warren Buffett's right-hand man at Berkshire Hathaway. He was considered a brilliant investor in his own right and just a real down-to-earth, cool guy. There are many books of his wit and witticism out there. He gave a very interesting interview before he passed away published in the Wall Street Journal, which has made our list here. An interesting fact about Charlie Munger is that he has a dorm named after him which has no windows. He designed it so that people or students would go out and mingle with each other because they liked sunlight. One of his responses from the interview a few weeks ago when asked about picking stock prices, he said, "Why should I try to pick my own stocks if I'm an individual investor? I don't design my own electric motors or my own egg beaters." It is also interesting that Munger and Warran Buffett, two of the wealthiest men in the world, both lived in the same houses for decades. They drove modest cars and neither had private jets. There was also a quote in this article where Munger says one of the reasons he was economically successful in life is because he read so much his whole life starting when he was about six. He also talks a lot about how it's not necessarily about being the smartest, it's about the person who continues to learn and continues to get better and improve. He and Buffett were both that way in terms of echoing the old cliche "Not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers." Wall Street Journal: How to Know When It's Time to Retire. Interesting statistic: The average retirement age was 62 this year 2023, which is up from the age of 57 in 1991. So, in about 22 years, the retirement age has increased by about five years. We are curious if that tracks with like how much life expectancy has increased in that time. If you wait too long you might regret the extra years you gave to work. However, if you leave too early, you could feel lost in your new life, which is a real thing as far as people retiring early and not quite sure what to do or where to go from there. We do see that quite often. There's a lot more to decide about retiring than just whether are you financially able to. The people who retire successfully are the ones who are retiring to something, not from something. If you're leaving the workforce and not ready to replace that, you might be floundering a little bit. We have a worksheet we use as a part of our process regarding our ideal day, week, and year. You fill it out as if you didn't have to worry about anything this would be your ideal way to spend a day, a week, and a year. Then you compare that to your current and it helps a lot of people think through the changes they need to make right now to help them get to that ideal scenario in retirement. 3 big reasons exchange-traded funds went 'mainstream' with investors On the investment side of things, it's a little more technical but it applies to a lot of individual investors out there. In a nutshell, exchange-traded funds are portfolios of stocks or bonds that trade on an exchange like stocks rather than the way mutual funds traditionally trade. They are generally more tax efficient, track an index, and are lower cost than actively managed mutual funds. A lot of individual investors see exchange-traded funds as being tax-efficient with passive investing. And then another junior hire adds in graphics and you don't even know where they came from. Suddenly, you have this brand that is cobbled together, and no one on the team is feeling compelled. Today, returning guest Adam Chaloeicheep and I are picking up where we left off in episode 259: Has your Business Brand Become a Liability, diving into Together Agency's four personas of clients who are ready to do brand work, the three types of clients that are deal-breakers for Adam, and the perils of navigating the brand strategy process with a CEO who is in the midst of a spiritual awakening. Be sure to check out our previous conversations, 045: Behind the Free Time Brand with Adam Chaloeicheep and 247: Has your Business Brand Become a Liability? How to Know When It's Time for a Tune-up. More About Adam: Adam Chaloeicheep is co-founder of Together agency with his wife, Marisol Dahl, who I had the great pleasure of working with for five years in the early days of JBE. Adam is a creative business leader with over a decade of experience in a variety of startup areas including product and service concepting, building teams, operations, and brand-focused design and digital solutions. He is one of my closest friends (12 years and counting!), and a creative business leader with over a decade of experience in product and service concepting, building teams, and brand strategy. Together Agency is behind every big brand I have launched into the world including Pivot and Free Time.

A fun change of pace this week on the show. Earlier this year, I co-produced a tribute album to Americana icon Jim Lauderdale, featuring an eclectic group of incredible Australian artists reinterpreting Jim's incredible songbook. Today, Michael Carpenter, who co-produced the record and played the bulk of the music you hear on the album, as well as mixing and mastering the project, joins me to break it down track by track. We get into how each song and artist were chosen, the arrangement process and how each track evolved over the months of production. How to Know When It's Time to Divorce In this episode, we are discussing the difficult topic of divorce. Although I am pro-marriage through and through, there are times, sadly, when divorce may need to occur: abuse, adultery, abandonment, and addiction. While divorce is never easy, sometimes it is the only option left for individuals to protect themselves and their families. We explore each of these situations and provide information on how to recognize when it may be time to consider divorce. When to Divorce: Abuse Abuse can come in many forms, including physical, emotional, and verbal. It is important to recognize the signs of abuse and know when it is time to seek help. I do not believe a marriage can be saved when there is physical abuse present. I always advise individuals to seek help and safety if they are being physically abused. The National Domestic Violence Hotline can be reached 24 hours a day at 800-799-7233. We also address the common misconceptions surrounding abuse and why leaving an abusive relationship is often the best course of action. Emotional abuse is different. I believe couples need to seek therapeutic help to determine if mental illness is a factor or if a spouse is simply being mean or a jerk. This is tricky, because all abuse is harmful, but not all cases of emotional verbal abuse warrant divorce. Should We Divorce Because of Adultery Adultery can be devastating to a marriage and can leave individuals feeling hurt, rejected, and betrayed. No matter why the infidelity happened, the betrayed spouse needs to know it was not his/her fault. My marriage story includes our journey from adultery, and in no way was it easy. However, just because a marriage has gone through adultery doesn't mean it is irretrievably broken. Your marriage can heal after adultery. In the Bible, the prophet Malachi issues a strong warning to the men to not treat their wives “treacherously” because God hates divorce (Malachi 2:14-16). Too many have focused on the “God hates divorce” part without considering these verses in their proper context. Divorce, in that time, was “cruelty” to women (verse 16). Women in those days had no way to provide or protect themselves. And since God loves his daughters, he hates divorce. Plus, it violates covenant, and God is serious about covenant. Is Abandonment a Reason to Divorce When a spouse walks out on the marriage, it can be devastating. Abandonment isn't only a painful experience for the spouse who stayed but also any children that might be present. This leads to feelings of loneliness, rejection, and betrayal for those left behind. One of the best Scriptures that pertain to this is I Corinthians 7:15: “But if the husband or wife who isn't a believer insists on leaving, let them go. In such cases the believing husband or wife is no longer bound to the other, for God has called you to live in peace.” If a spouse walks out on you, you are not required to go chase down behind them or wait for years for him/her to return. Addiction Ruins Families and May Be a Cause to Divorce Addiction can have a profound impact on a marriage and can cause significant stress and strain on a relationship. Most people agree that addiction is a disease and usually required professional help to overcome. Addiction is messy, and often non-addicted spouses feel guilty for filing for divorce. While I do not counsel couples to divorce, I do advise them to see carefully weigh the positives and negatives in their decision to stay with an addicted partner. There must be firm boundaries set in cases where addiction is wrecking a marriage. ALSO READ: How to Live with An Addicted Spouse Divorce is never an easy decision, but sometimes it is necessary to protect oneself and one's family. In this episode, we explored four common situations that can lead to divorce: abuse, adultery, abandonment, and addiction. It is important to remember that seeking help and support is essential during this difficult time. I believe there needs to be a lot of support and wise counsel before one makes the difficult decision to divorce.
