Intuitive Messages That You Need To Change These messages are going to come in through your primary intuitive language so it may be unique to each person. Listen as Whitney gives you some examples of how she has seen these messages present for each of the intuitive languages. Symptoms to Look For When It's Time For A Pivot Symptoms are most likely going to align with your primary intuitive languages. For example if you're a channeler you may experience physical changes that are pushing you to a certain outcome. Let's go through some of the examples of how that might show up for you. When your attitude towards something changes noticeably it may be time for a change or pivot and we'll go through how this could materialize in your experience. How Do You Know When To Give Up and When To Stay “In It” If some of the symptoms you experience are having a negative impact externally it may be time to not just pivot but change completely. If your health is being affected (mental or physical) it is mostly time to take a real hard look at exactly how you feel and let your intuition help you re-evaluate the best path forward. How Not To Hit The Spiritual Brick Wall When you have multiple symptoms showing up and you're seeing repeating patterns resulting from the decision you're making it is imperative to listen and evaluate at that point. The easiest way to hit the spiritual brick wall, where it's no longer a choice to change but an unavoidable necessity. Questions You Should Ask to Evaluate Why Something Isn't Working Whitney recaps the question each symptom should bring up to help you decide if and/or what might need to change or pivot in your life, relationship, or business. Needing to change or pivot isn't a negative sign something is wrong. It may simply be the next right action on your unique journey. Here's to staying Spiritual and Ambitious. This is episode two in our series of retirement planning headlines and what they may or may not mean for your upcoming retirement. Our little round roundup of things we've read over the last couple of weeks that are out there in the media. Watch on YouTube HERE Charlie Munger Our lead story is an interview with Mr. Charlie Munger, who sadly passed away just a few days ago on November 28. He was 99. Charlie Munger is best known as Warren Buffett's right-hand man at Berkshire Hathaway. He was considered a brilliant investor in his own right and just a real down-to-earth, cool guy. There are many books of his wit and witticism out there. He gave a very interesting interview before he passed away published in the Wall Street Journal, which has made our list here. An interesting fact about Charlie Munger is that he has a dorm named after him which has no windows. He designed it so that people or students would go out and mingle with each other because they liked sunlight. One of his responses from the interview a few weeks ago when asked about picking stock prices, he said, "Why should I try to pick my own stocks if I'm an individual investor? I don't design my own electric motors or my own egg beaters." It is also interesting that Munger and Warran Buffett, two of the wealthiest men in the world, both lived in the same houses for decades. They drove modest cars and neither had private jets. There was also a quote in this article where Munger says one of the reasons he was economically successful in life is because he read so much his whole life starting when he was about six. He also talks a lot about how it's not necessarily about being the smartest, it's about the person who continues to learn and continues to get better and improve. He and Buffett were both that way in terms of echoing the old cliche "Not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers." Wall Street Journal: How to Know When It's Time to Retire. Interesting statistic: The average retirement age was 62 this year 2023, which is up from the age of 57 in 1991. So, in about 22 years, the retirement age has increased by about five years. We are curious if that tracks with like how much life expectancy has increased in that time. If you wait too long you might regret the extra years you gave to work. However, if you leave too early, you could feel lost in your new life, which is a real thing as far as people retiring early and not quite sure what to do or where to go from there. We do see that quite often. There's a lot more to decide about retiring than just whether are you financially able to. The people who retire successfully are the ones who are retiring to something, not from something. If you're leaving the workforce and not ready to replace that, you might be floundering a little bit. We have a worksheet we use as a part of our process regarding our ideal day, week, and year. You fill it out as if you didn't have to worry about anything this would be your ideal way to spend a day, a week, and a year. Then you compare that to your current and it helps a lot of people think through the changes they need to make right now to help them get to that ideal scenario in retirement. 3 big reasons exchange-traded funds went 'mainstream' with investors On the investment side of things, it's a little more technical but it applies to a lot of individual investors out there. In a nutshell, exchange-traded funds are portfolios of stocks or bonds that trade on an exchange like stocks rather than the way mutual funds traditionally trade. They are generally more tax efficient, track an index, and are lower cost than actively managed mutual funds. A lot of individual investors see exchange-traded funds as being tax-efficient with passive investing. We would add the fact that most major discount brokerages, Schwab, E-Trade, and Fidelity, will now let you trade most exchange-traded funds with no trading costs.
Are you running a Franken-Brand? A quick, inexpensive logo here. And then someone a few months later tries to write the brand strategy. And then another junior hire adds in graphics and you don't even know where they came from. Suddenly, you have this brand that is cobbled together, and no one on the team is feeling compelled. Today, returning guest Adam Chaloeicheep and I are picking up where we left off in episode 259: Has your Business Brand Become a Liability, diving into Together Agency's four personas of clients who are ready to do brand work, the three types of clients that are deal-breakers for Adam, and the perils of navigating the brand strategy process with a CEO who is in the midst of a spiritual awakening. Be sure to check out our previous conversations, 045: Behind the Free Time Brand with Adam Chaloeicheep and 247: Has your Business Brand Become a Liability? How to Know When It's Time for a Tune-up. More About Adam: Adam Chaloeicheep is co-founder of Together agency with his wife, Marisol Dahl, who I had the great pleasure of working with for five years in the early days of JBE. Adam is a creative business leader with over a decade of experience in a variety of startup areas including product and service concepting, building teams, operations, and brand-focused design and digital solutions. He is one of my closest friends (12 years and counting!), and a creative business leader with over a decade of experience in product and service concepting, building teams, and brand strategy. Together Agency is behind every big brand I have launched into the world including Pivot and Free Time.

How to Know When It's Time to Divorce In this episode, we are discussing the difficult topic of divorce. Although I am pro-marriage through and through, there are times, sadly, when divorce may need to occur: abuse, adultery, abandonment, and addiction. While divorce is never easy, sometimes it is the only option left for individuals to protect themselves and their families. We explore each of these situations and provide information on how to recognize when it may be time to consider divorce. When to Divorce: Abuse Abuse can come in many forms, including physical, emotional, and verbal. It is important to recognize the signs of abuse and know when it is time to seek help. I do not believe a marriage can be saved when there is physical abuse present. I always advise individuals to seek help and safety if they are being physically abused. The National Domestic Violence Hotline can be reached 24 hours a day at 800-799-7233. We also address the common misconceptions surrounding abuse and why leaving an abusive relationship is often the best course of action. Emotional abuse is different. I believe couples need to seek therapeutic help to determine if mental illness is a factor or if a spouse is simply being mean or a jerk. This is tricky, because all abuse is harmful, but not all cases of emotional verbal abuse warrant divorce. Should We Divorce Because of Adultery Adultery can be devastating to a marriage and can leave individuals feeling hurt, rejected, and betrayed. No matter why the infidelity happened, the betrayed spouse needs to know it was not his/her fault. My marriage story includes our journey from adultery, and in no way was it easy. However, just because a marriage has gone through adultery doesn't mean it is irretrievably broken. Your marriage can heal after adultery. In the Bible, the prophet Malachi issues a strong warning to the men to not treat their wives “treacherously” because God hates divorce (Malachi 2:14-16). Too many have focused on the “God hates divorce” part without considering these verses in their proper context. Divorce, in that time, was “cruelty” to women (verse 16). Women in those days had no way to provide or protect themselves. And since God loves his daughters, he hates divorce. Plus, it violates covenant, and God is serious about covenant. Is Abandonment a Reason to Divorce When a spouse walks out on the marriage, it can be devastating. Abandonment isn't only a painful experience for the spouse who stayed but also any children that might be present. This leads to feelings of loneliness, rejection, and betrayal for those left behind. One of the best Scriptures that pertain to this is I Corinthians 7:15: “But if the husband or wife who isn't a believer insists on leaving, let them go. In such cases the believing husband or wife is no longer bound to the other, for God has called you to live in peace.” If a spouse walks out on you, you are not required to go chase down behind them or wait for years for him/her to return. Addiction Ruins Families and May Be a Cause to Divorce Addiction can have a profound impact on a marriage and can cause significant stress and strain on a relationship. Most people agree that addiction is a disease and usually required professional help to overcome. Addiction is messy, and often non-addicted spouses feel guilty for filing for divorce. While I do not counsel couples to divorce, I do advise them to see carefully weigh the positives and negatives in their decision to stay with an addicted partner. There must be firm boundaries set in cases where addiction is wrecking a marriage. ALSO READ: How to Live with An Addicted Spouse Divorce is never an easy decision, but sometimes it is necessary to protect oneself and one's family. In this episode, we explored four common situations that can lead to divorce: abuse, adultery, abandonment, and addiction. It is important to remember that seeking help and support is essential during this difficult time. I believe there needs to be a lot of support and wise counsel before one makes the difficult decision to divorce. Arize and its founding engineer, Tsion Behailu, are leaders in the machine learning observability space. After spending a few years working as a computer scientist at Google, Tsion's curiosity drew her to the startup world where, since the beginning of the pandemic, she has been building breaking-edge technology. Rather than doing it all manually (as many companies still do to this day), Arize AI technology helps machine learning teams detect issues, understand why they happen, and improve overall model performance. During this episode, Tsion explains why this method is so advantageous, what she loves about working in the machine learning field, the issue of bias in machine learning models (and what Arize AI is doing to help mitigate that), and more! Key Points From This Episode:Tsions's career transition from computer science (CS) into the machine learning (ML) space. What motivated Tsion to move from Google to the startup world. The mission of Arize AI.Tsion explains what ML observability is.Examples of the Arize AI tools and the problems that they solve for customers. What the troubleshooting process looks like in the absence of Arize AI.The problem with in-house solutions.Exploring the issue of bias in ML models. How Arize AI's bias tracing tool works.Tsion's thoughts on what is most responsible for bias in ML models and how to combat these problems.Tweetables:“We focus on machine learning observability. We're helping ML teams detect issues, troubleshoot why they happen, and just improve overall model performance.” — Tsion Behailu [0:06:26]“Models can be biased, just because they're built on biased data. Even data scientists, ML engineers who build these models have no standardized ways to know if they're perpetuating bias. So more and more of our decisions get automated, and we let software make them. We really do allow software to perpetuate real world bias issues.” — Tsion Behailu [0:12:36]“The bias tracing tool that we have is to help data scientists and machine learning teams just monitor and take action on model fairness metrics.” — Tsion Behailu [0:13:55]Links Mentioned in Today's Episode:Tsion BehailuArize Bias Tracing ToolArize AIHow to Know When It's Time to Leave your Big Tech SWE Job -- Tsion BehauliHow AI HappensSama

“The greater lesson of this is that I've helped open the door—a lot of people have opened the door—to talk about what running on the other side looks like, or not running, what the other side of that looks like. You can still have a creative, active, badass life without pounding on your body, if that doesn't work for you anymore.” Dimity McDowell has been a runner for years. She's also the author of many books about running; a sports and fitness writer who's written for running publications; and the co-founder of the positive, thriving community Another Mother Runner. But the last time she ran a step was on Jan. 18, 2020. She wouldn't trade her relationship with running for anything; the miles made her who she is. In this week's episode, Dimity explains the challenges that convinced her it was time to move on—and how she made peace with her redefined identity. The journey wasn't easy, and at times it's still sad and frustrating. But by sharing her experiences, she hopes to offer others a guide to making tough decisions, grieving losses, and living a full, joy-filled life filled with new adventures. We're not able to count all the ways we can get stumbled and distracted by the thousands of shiny objects and “promises” that pull us away from God: from what society says we should look like, to why we should add “change the shape of our bodies” to the top of our priority list. And we can't forget the countless fitness programs that entice us to do more and partake so that we can feel important based on how fast we can run or whether or not we can lift heavy barbells over our heads. If you can add your hope to this list no wonder we keep getting sucked back into the black hole of secular promises. If you're tired of such (and I know you are) and want to find ways to get UNstumbled AND more focused on Jesus during your fitness and weight loss journey, grab your notebook and pen. How many times have you spoken or thought about yourself in a self-sabotaging way? You say you look fat, you need to lose weight, you wish you still fit the clothes stored at the back of your closet, if only you still looked like your younger years. Do I need to keep going? We all do it so know that you're not the only one. We have to remember that as ambassadors of Christ we get to look past the outward appearances. Of course, intellectually knowing these things is not enough, and can be lost in the endless proverbial sea of what the world keeps on throwing in our faces. So, that's why in this episode I talk about the 15 self-love ways that you can choose to appreciate your body, God's way. Self-love is a word that is not usually part of my vocabulary (I actually despise it). But you'll have to tune in to get where I'm coming from. Are you ready to shift your mind from hating to loving where your body is at? Then, this is the episode to help you with that! If you're still on the fence about going all-in to follow Jesus in your body free in journey, you don't want to miss this episode. From one female Christian to another I can describe what it's like to follow Jesus and what it's like when I don't follow Jesus. I can tell you that many times I'm tempted to do things the world's way for fitness by going hard and showing others my hard work with my physical progress. I am at times convinced that following methods that lead to quick results is better than slow and steady. You will learn 3 awesome things that I've come to realize is so much greater when it comes to rewards than earning recognition from the world when we choose to go all-in and follow Jesus on our body freedom journey. Ever wondered if your lack of weight loss results are a reflection of your faith? This is not a hot topic but it's something that needs to be addressed because it's too easy to deceive ourselves and put the blame on things we would rather not acknowledge. In this episode, I will give you the simple truth. Five to be exact. These are things that we ignore. It's not our faith (or lack of) that determines our weight loss results. As a Christian, looking for a weight loss (or fitness) program is a challenge especially if you don't know what to do (or where) to get started. With 819 million results to choose from you would think it would be easy to just choose one and go with it.. (Type “weight loss or fitness for women” into Google and you'll get at least that many results to choose from!) The reality is that finding a single program appropriate for us as Christians is tough. Majority of the programs out there have a common theme: vanity metrics (PLUS they encourage you to plan out and pursue self-centered goals). Lift your booty, tone your arms, flatten your tummy, run faster anyone? (Easy selling!) It's no secret that I wasn't following God's way regarding fitness and weight loss. I did what most of us would do (and still are… I get it). I followed what my flesh desired and did what I saw everyone else was doing. Outward appearances of the person leading a program MATTERED to me (a LOT). That's what led me to make a decision for which program to join. And as long as the exercises got my heart rate up really high the program was fulfilling part of their promise. My hope and encouragement were found in the fitness authority's body shape. But one year, finally, God opened my eyes and I saw that I was conforming to the world! I looked like everyone else. Not who Christ was calling me to be. My old desires were slowly starting to surface. I coveted other people's bodies because I hated mine. My mind was determined to get back the body I used to have. Does any of this sound similar to your own thoughts or actions when it comes to how we're approaching weight loss and fitness? If so, how does it make you feel as a Christian knowing this is the naked truth? What (or where) can you look for appropriate and helpful programs as you're starting out (or restarting) your weight loss or fitness journey? And how do you know if you're making the right program decision to join? Be encouraged as we go through questions like these inside this episode. If you want to know the 3 things you shouldn't ignore as you seek out a weight loss or fitness program as a Christian, then you don't want to miss this episode! Enjoy and get ready to take some notes down! Jesus Over Jeans, Jaclyn Obsessing about your weight and obsessing about what you see when you look in the mirror? Constantly jumping from diet to diet? Today Alex and Amber talk about making new hires and how to make sure that the new member on a team is as good a fit as possible. The Episode: The A-Team Delivers Hiring the right staff is one of the most important parts of scaling a business and many things need to be considered when it is time to engage in this process. With this in mind, we dedicated this episode to the subject of hiring new coaches and other team members. Joining us for this discussion is our very own Alex Cartmill who has a lot of experience in this area as he is the former head coach for OTA level 1 and is currently running our OTC program. We get into the whole process of making a new hire, covering how to know when you need somebody new, what skills to look for, the qualities they should inherently display, the application process, training, and more. In This Episode How to know when it is time to start looking for new team members [0:07:14] Different types of new hires and when to hire which [0:13:00] How to find the right person for a position you are hiring for [0:18:15] Qualities that are tough to teach new hires through training [0:21:09] The best way to set up an application process [0:24:32] Keeping a new coach in check versus giving them freedom [0:30:51] Final tips for hiring and managing coaching staff [0:30:51] “I will take someone with a good attitude and the right mindset and have to teach them the skills any day of the week before someone who happens to have all the skills.” — Amber Reynolds How to Know When It is Time to Hire A New Coach Even before you start looking for employees you should understand where your strengths and weaknesses lie. This way, when you look for new people, you know what to hire for. As far as knowing when to hire somebody new, the time will be right when one of two things happens: you either want help with scaling or with handling the business you already have. When it is time to make a new hire it is important to understand which roles you can afford to fill with new talent and which ones you need to keep doing yourself. By all means, hire people that allow you to focus on your zone of genius, but do not just outsource for roles you can't stand doing even though you should be the one doing them. What Qualities to Look For In New Candidates When it comes to hiring new coaches, you will find that candidates will fall into two main categories, complementary and supplementary. Supplementary coaches will have a similar approach as your own and can be hired to fill roles you used to occupy yourself. Complimentary coaches on the other hand think differently than you and these types of candidates can be used to help grow the business by expanding the range of services you offer. Knowing which of these two types is right for your business at any particular phase goes back to self-awareness. If you understand where your strengths and weaknesses lie it will make it easier to know which type you need. That being said, often the first hire people will make is a supplementary one. Regardless of which type of coach you need, we recommend looking for people who are empathetic, curious, and display naturally good interpersonal skills because it is hard to teach these qualities. How to Find the Right Person and How to Train Them Once you know who you are looking for the next step is finding them. Here at the OTS, we often don't need to look much further than our preexisting network. Once you have a team that you can trust the chances are they will know somebody right for the position and you can build a shortlist in this way. If you are still in the beginning phases, the question you need to ask is how can you make the application posting appealing enough to grab the attention of the talent you are looking for. Posting the salary you aim to offer is one good way to do it. On the topic of salary, you need to be willing to reimburse a person for the value they will be adding to your team. You can assess how much to pay based on how replaceable a new hire will be. Once you have made your hire and are in the process of training them there is a fine line that needs to be towed between giving them the freedom to be their authentic selves and keeping them in check with the branding of your company. Giving them freedom is important but it means they will make mistakes, and it is important to have systems in place to handle this. Already at $1,000/month online and want to scale? If you’re listening to this podcast, you likely are or aspire to be a great manager. But what if those around you don’t have the same appreciation for being a positive influence on the team? Sometimes, we find ourselves in the unlucky position of working with a toxic boss or employee. In these cases, it’s important to do what you can to manage the unhealthy dynamic, protect yourself, and know when it’s time to say goodbye. Today’s guest is Dr. Paul White. His company, Appreciation at Work, provides training resources for corporations, medical facilities, schools, non-profits, government agencies, over 700 colleges and universities, and in over 60 countries. Paul was also a guest on Episode 99: Show Authentic and Meaningful Appreciation. In this episode we talk about toxic behavior. We get into the three components of a toxic workplace, how to navigate toxic behavior from your boss or colleagues, what toxic behavior looks like in a remote work environment and more. Read the related blog article: The 3 Elements of A Toxic Workplace Key Takeaways: There are three major components of a toxic work environment: (1) toxic systems, (2) toxic leaders, and (3) dysfunctional colleagues. Poor communication habits is a hallmark toxic work environments, especially for larger organizations. Teams avoid directly addressing issues and instead use indirect methods of communication. Additionally, there is consistent lack clarity about what decisions were made and who is responsible. To reduce chances of confusion, have your team run through a list of questions after a meeting about what the decision was, who is responsible, when the next step will happen, and how you will know it’s happening. Toxic leaders are often extremely competent, talented, and charming. They look good because they sell well, but their actions fail to line up with their promises. To deal with a toxic leader, find a sounding board to process what’s happening at work. Don’t get side-tracked with fixing the toxic situation. Document the decisions and expectations from meetings. Include measures of effective collaboration as part of performance reviews to help identify toxic colleagues and provide grounds for termination If your emotional and physical health is deteriorating from work stress, this may be a sign you need to leave your job. Toxic or dysfunctional employees often have chronic functioning problems in. Dysfunctional people tend to blame others and make excuses rather than accept responsibility. To deal with toxic colleagues, set boundaries and document well. Let them know you can’t rescue or cover for them. Make clear what your work is and what you’ve accomplished to minimize being held accountable for their failures. Have an open conversation with your boss about concerns with your dysfunctional colleague. Present the data and let your boss come to her own conclusions. Ask your boss for advice on how to handle the situation rather than casting blame on your coworker. “Clarity is the answer to all decision-making questions. How and what you're creating is an expression of who you are.” -Julie Gallivan In this episode, we are having a magnified view of decision-making with Decision-Making Strategist and Clarity Coach Julie Gallivan. Julie describes decision-making as our silent partner. Most of the time, we make decisions without being mindful of it. Simple tasks such as deciding on what to eat, what to wear, where to buy certain things, and everything we do throughout the day requires decision-making. However, there are also compound problems where we need to use our mental faculties to the full. But, with the hustle, fear, and confusion that arise with these dilemmas, decision-making becomes the hardest thing in the world. We even intentionally distract ourselves only to get away with it. Until then, do we realize that we've never truly paid attention to how we've been making decisions all along. Of course, we can't keep putting-off these issues. As they pile up, we find ourselves more overwhelmed and more frustrated. Worst, we attempt to duplicate what others do, deceiving ourselves that we'll attain the same level of success they hold by doing so. We never want to find ourselves in that situation ever! So today, Julie reminds us of that one critical element that we often forget about decision-making: clarity. Julie talks about the role of our vision and identity in the choices we make. She also talks about how our resources, challenges, and patterns affect our judgments. Most importantly, Julie explains how we can structure our decision-making process, so we can take practical steps towards success. Having trouble finding the motivation you need to get things done? When you begin an exciting project, it's easy to find the motivation you need. Maintaining that level of motivation every day, however, can be a challenge. Just remember that you're not alone in your feelings. Instead of beating yourself up or giving up, take a few small steps that will boost your motivation and lead you to the success you deserve. Take Care of Yourself Are there any basic needs in your personal life that need to be addressed? Sometimes, your lack of motivation at work can result from a lack of sleep, proper nutrition, or conflict that drains your energy. Choose to take care of yourself, and your motivation will naturally increase in every area of your life. For instance, if you've become accustomed to staying up late and getting little sleep, you'll drag and lack energy at work. Everyone's sleep needs are different, but the average person requires 6 to 8 hours of sleep every night, so make sure you get an adequate amount of rest. Also, make sure that you maintain a healthy diet. The food and drinks you put in your body have a huge impact on the way you feel. If you eat poorly at work, you'll feel lethargic. Also, a diet that's too strict can make you feel tired, hungry, and irritable. Pay attention to your mental health. Sometimes you can't find motivation because your thoughts are preoccupied with something else. Get to the root of your challenges and seek the advice of friends or loved ones. Choose to nurse your body and your mind so that you're ready for the challenges of each workday. Stay Active and Motivated Once your basic personal needs are met, you can turn your attention to fighting the boredom. Ask yourself what you like about your job. Write down as many positive things about your job as you can think of. Life and death are in the power of what you say, so speak positively. Then write down the things you dislike about your job. Ask yourself, “What am I willing to do to make it the way I want it?” Focus on solutions instead of problems, and your motivation for success will quickly increase. If you're bored because your day has become monotonous, seek opportunities to make changes to your daily routine at work. Come up with a new way of doing things. Ask about training programs or other duties you can take on to increase your value and level of interest in your job. Another powerful approach to stamp out boredom is to seek a mentor. Learn to be the best from someone who performs your job at a high level. Anything is more fun when you're good at it. A mentor can answer specific questions about your job and help you to find the excitement in every day as well. Know When It's Time to Make a Change Sometimes, boredom is a signal that something's wrong. You may be in the wrong position to utilize your talents most effectively. Perhaps your employer may be able to direct you to other opportunities that are better suited to your talents, abilities, and interests. Often, taking part in other hobbies and interests that you're passionate about on the weekends can cure the boredom you experience on the weekdays. Having something you look forward to can be a powerful antidote. Pursue what makes you happy in your free time and you may find that motivation appears out of nowhere. Most of all, realize that you deserve success. Set yourself apart from those who settle for the tedious, daily grind. Today, decide to take care of yourself, pursue your passion and make the most of every day at your job. You'll be glad you did! Roy Clayton. Uberesult.com

Do you have a skill you know very well? Could you teach it? In this episode, we're talking about how to grow a successful business teaching what you know. Then we'll explore how to grow that business using social media in creative ways, especially Instagram. We will get to all of that in just a moment with my guest. But first, are you looking for a community of bloggers to join? Do you need help, encouragement, to just a safe place to ask questions? Or maybe you've been blogging for a while and you have some wisdom to share with others. If any of these apply to you, I would absolutely love to have you join my Facebook group. I'm in there all the time, participating, and answering and asking questions that are pertinent to your online business. I also go live in the group every week, sharing my takeaways from these podcast episodes. So, if you want more than just listening to the podcast, but you want to join the conversation, come join me and hear my takeaways and let's discuss yours! Now, let me introduce my guest. Kimberly Espinel is a food photographer, a prop stylist, a food stylist, a food photography teacher, an Instagram growth coach, a podcaster, and a food blogger. Yep, that's a lot! Growing a Passion for Food Photography Kimberly didn't plan to start an online business when she started her food blog. She had changed her own diet and merely wanted to blog about her recipes. She was also in school to be a nutritional therapist and figured that the recipes she was creating could be used with her clients when she finished her training. That was her thinking at the time; she had no goals to make money with the blog. It didn't take long for Kimberly to realize that her food photography wasn't up to par, and so she began to focus on practicing her photography skills. Before long, she became more passionate about food photography than she was about nutritional therapy. By the end of her third year of blogging, she was teaching food photography one-on-one, and working with brands on sponsored campaigns. How to Know When It's Time to Raise Your Rates When Kimberly began doing her one-on-one sessions, her rates for those sessions were fairly low. She wanted it to be affordable for the bloggers who wanted to work with her. But as time went by, and she did more and more sessions, they began to sell out so quickly that she realized she was underpricing them. So, every quarter hence, she began raising her prices. She also began working with a business coach who has helped her find new ways of meeting her financial goals. One of those was to begin doing group classes for photography. How to Set Up Online Courses No matter how many one-on-one or private smaller sessions Kimberly makes available, there are always people who can't make it in, as well as people who can't quite afford the private class. But Kimberly still wanted those people to be able to learn from her. She is gifted at teaching and she felt compelled to find a way to help everyone who wanted to get better at food photography. The solution, she discovered, was in offering group online classes. The main difference between the private class and the group class is that the group classes are pre-recorded, while the private classes are live. The pre-recorded classes also meet a need for those in time zones where attending a live session would be close to impossible. Creating the Content That Your Audience Wants If you only create content that you are interested in, you won't grow a dedicated audience. You have to meet the needs of your people, and you have to answer the questions they have. Kimberly has taken this understanding to a whole new level by creating Instagram challenges for her audience. So, even though she originally started her blog to share recipes, when she saw that her audience was more interested in her food photography, she made a turn in that direction. And when her posts on Instagram strategy brought readers in droves, she started the IG challenges. Kimberly has been able to stay with her true passion, which is food and teaching others. But her business doesn't look quite like she thought it would when she began. Branching into Food Photography as a Business Over the years, Kimberly built up relationships with many brands through the sponsored campaigns she did with them. The skills she developed in food photography eventually turned into brands approaching her to do food photography for them. This includes restaurant photography, packaged foods, and any items in the food and drink category. The bulk of Kimberly's income is now doing that type of paid food photography. Developing an Instagram Growth Strategy Before Instagram changed its algorithm, Kimberly was able to grow her followers to around 30K in just under a year. She did this without running ads or paying for followers. With that growth came a lot of people asking to pick her brain over coffee. So she created a series on her blog where she talked about trends, developments, tips, and tricks for using Instagram. She called it, appropriately enough, The Instagram Series. The posts in this series exploded in popularity, with the most popular being 3 Reasons You Are Losing Instagram Followers (and What to Do About It.) From that series, Kimberly developed more free content, (and eventually paid products) around Instagram growth. What Is Working on Instagram Today? I asked Kimberly to give us her top 3 tips for using Instagram today, keeping in mind that things that work for one niche might not work as well in another niche. So, fair warning: blogging and online business involves a ton of testing. You have to test, test, test to figure out what your audience responds to and what they will engage with. Top 3 Tips for Instagram: You have to produce consistent content. Yes, folks, you have to show up if you want to attract a loyal audience. Because of the new algorithms, posts don't stick around on IG the way they did in the glory days of the platform. Kimberly strongly suggests posting at least once a day, at the bare minimum. Most successful bloggers post multiple times per day. Create attention-grabbing photos and captions. Good isn't good enough anymore, now that the space is so crowded. Your photo quality must be stellar, and your captions should draw your audience in and make them want to engage with you. Your captions should directly address your audience's felt needs. Provide value to your audience. There are many ways to add value to your Instagram, whether through stories, in your feed, or in IG Lives. Share information that is helpful to your audience or solves a pain point for them. Be sure to follow Kimberly on Instagram and check out her podcast for more tips and tricks to help you grow your online business. Instagram is a powerful platform to allow you to build real authentic relationships with your followers. Be sure to use all of IG's features, like stories, IGTV, and Lives. And now, IG offers you the opportunity to send voice replies to your DM's. My followers get such a kick out of hearing my voice answer them through Direct Message on IG. They always say, “Oh my god, it's really you!” What a great way to help your followers feel like they know you. And remember, when your followers feel like they know you, they also like you and they will trust you. And once those 3 factors are in place, you are ready to build new income streams! Want to know more about building those income streams? Join my husband, David, and me in our blogger coaching group, where we teach you how to take your blog and create a real online business. Today on AME, I'm talking all about money...specifically how it applies to art teachers who run classes or workshops or have a product to sell. I'm revealing my strategies for determining how to set the right price for your product service. After 10 years of running an online business, I've learned a thing or two about what price to charge for products. And although I didn't always get it right, I did learn that business - any business - has 3 main components: 1. Business strategies are the easiest to implement as they are things you can learn: management systems, email list, software, websites, marketing, social media, etc. 2. Personality is what frames your offer. This is the what and who you are. This is the energy and style you bring to whatever you are selling. 3. Limiting beliefs are literally what holds you back. It's the stories you tell yourself that have a DEEP impact on any type of business you run: big or small. Identifying your limiting beliefs will help you answer your money questions.
