Wie wel eens bij een Nederlands Kampioenschap Skateboarden, Shop Riot, Pier Parade of menig ander vooraanstaand event is geweest. Kan vast wel beamen dat de muziek daar zo goed als altijd on point is met het skateboarden. Today we're joined by Kyle Roche, founder and CEO of Griptape to discuss patterns and middleware for LLM applications. We dive into the emerging patterns for developing LLM applications, such as off prompt data—which allows data retrieval without compromising the chain of thought within language models—and pipelines, which are sequential tasks that are given to LLMs that can involve different models for each task or step in the pipeline. We also explore Griptape, an open-source, Python-based middleware stack that aims to securely connect LLM applications to an organization's internal and external data systems. We discuss the abstractions it offers, including drivers, memory management, rule sets, DAG-based workflows, and a prompt stack. Additionally, we touch on common customer concerns such as privacy, retraining, and sovereignty issues, and several use cases that leverage role-based retrieval methods to optimize human augmentation tasks. Despite our claims of being the best, the American education system isn't as great as we'd like to think. From an overly US-centric focus and a whitewashing of history to concerns about students being taught to pass tests rather than to truly learn, there's a lot of room for improvement. Luckily, there are people fighting for change, including a young woman named Deborah Olatunji. Although she's only a freshman in college now, Deborah has written a book, Unleashing Your Innovative Genius: High School Redesigned, about how to empower her generation with a new education system that caters to their growth and development. She hosts the Voices of Disruption podcast, a platform dedicated to inspiring Gen Z-ers to step into their power. She's also one of nine board members of a nationwide, youth-driven, New York-based non-profit organization called GripTape; their mission is to provide youth with decision-making control over what and how they learn and the resources to do so. In our new podcast - and the first video podcast we've done! - Deborah shares her perspective on what's wrong with the American education system, ideas on how to improve it, and, ultimately, how to turn failure into fortitude. Starting our podcast, we ask Deborah how she's accomplished so much already, even though she's still in her teens. She shares some of the key moments that inspired her to make a difference and strive for educational improvements. We then dive into the problems present our educational system. But we don't stop there; Deborah also shares tangible steps we can take to achieve change. Deborah then talks about her mission to turn failure into fortitude. For her, that idea started with a failed biology test. Luckily, she turned that around into a plan to redesign our high schools. Deborah shares her perspective on Black history and how it's taught in American schools (spoiler: not very well). Deborah Olatunji is an accomplished writer, poet, activist, friend, and high school student. As the Founder and president of her own social venture, the Student Leadership Initiative Program, she and her peers help students in her school to navigate their interests and passions through a mentorship-fueled organization. Based in Delaware, SLIP has other branches in the state and the continental United States such as Georgia and more to come. She is intensely passionate about being a disrupter and catalytic force in the education system. Deborah is also one of nine board members nationwide for a youth-driven, New York-based non-profit organization called GripTape.  Their mission is to give youth decision-making control over what and how they learn with small grants to pursue a topic they’re passionate about and a Champion to encourage them along the way. She has been serving since June 2018. Deborah wrote this book because of her strong desire for students to realize and actualize their power. By power, she is referring to the beauty of autonomy and accessibility of resources to propel students’ futures forward *faster*. Her interest in reforming education kicked off in the spring of 2018 when she noticed that many of her classmates, herself included, had a misleading view of what it meant to genuinely enjoy learning and personally invest in our futures.
