Recorded on November 7th, 2012 with Brian Fife, James Fingal and Thomas Westberg. Incremental improvements in game hardware (faster processing speed, more colors/pixels, etc.) are inevitable each generation, but generally don’t enable new game concepts. Tom covers a history of transformative hardware/platform features, including advanced sound, mass optical storage and network connectivity. Motion games played their best hand yet in 2011 with The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and The Gunstringer. Justin and Aaron relive the best and the worst of both games in order to determine where the genre goes from here. The Cursed Checkpoint is a topical video game podcast focused on discussions and interviews about a single video game, genre, news headline, or industry story. It features a rotating cast of up to 3 members of the Horrible Night writing staff and/or video game industry professionals. Never thought I'd be happy to see you again. Episode Background Justin and Aaron both recently played through two of the more prominent motion game releases of 2011 in Skyward Sword and The Gunstringer. These two games are arguably the best implementation of motion gaming that have tried to appeal to both serious gamers and casual gamers alike. For all of their advances, both games left Justin and Aaron with more than a few questions about the future of motion games. This episode is recommended for anyone with an interest in the evolution of motion games and ideas about where the games may be headed. The discussion of both games is spoiler free, and while it may help if you have played one or both of the games, it certainly isn’t required to be able to follow along with the conversation. It's back log time and Sean is playing Dance Central 2, The Gunstringer, some crappy Kinect Fun Labs games, getting angry at Fruit Ninja Kinect and the recent 3DSWare hit: Pushmo. Jon is also playing some Pushmo as well as getting progressively angrier at Mario Kart 7 and Nathan deletes Tiny Tower during the recording! As for news, there are some Q1 release dates from Nintendo announced, DeadMau5 pretends to lose a Vita and the GBA Ambassador games are launched!

Please note, contents of the celebration issue will be remarkably similar to the contents found inside any other PB & Jason, brief retrospection notwithstanding. After some fun reminiscing of all the rants I've gone on in the past year, this week's PB & Jason kicks into gear with the announcement of all the Nintendo Ambassador NES 3DS Virtual Console Titles! I mention my thoughts on each game, then enter speculation mode, as I rumormonger the reasoning behind the inclusions of Yoshi and Ice Climber on the list! Following this, I discuss a few different news items from the past week or two, including the exclusion of OnLive coupons in GameStop's boxes of the PC version of Deus Ex, the XBLA release of the Gunstringer demo, Little King's Story on the Vita, hacking the 360, and then, even a bit of Xenoblade Chronicles comes up. Wrapping up the true gaming-related discussions, I present an optimistic future for the game Disney Epic Mickey 2. Rumors are, it's on the way, and I believe it could maybe just be possible for Junction Point to right the wrongs present in the first title! However, this week's PB & Jason doesn't just end at the games. I delve into an interesting article from Destructoid that may expose more than what appears on the surface. Remember, you can always send in listener mail to jasonrATpixlbitDOTcom or simply use this form to send mail my way. Bon Anniversaire!
