On this very busy day, Jonathan and Ryan record the show while also playing Castle Crashers. Jonathan shares some of his early life experiences growing up with videogames as a retreat from his real life and Ryan says that real life is better than Minecraft. A few different videogame genres are discussed before landing on the small number of genres that all games can be classified as. The SD card also ran out of space early so this episode is unfortunately cut a little bit short.0:00:00 - Very Busy Guys0:01:32 - Playing Castle Crashers As We Speak0:03:37 - The "Normal Kind of Videogame"0:05:47 - The Fatal Flaw of Castle Crashers0:07:24 - The Super Meat Boy Crossover Nexus0:08:06 - The Many Modes of Minecraft0:09:28 - Minecraft is Almost More Than a Game0:11:13 - Videogames are a Great Place to Hide Out From the Real World0:12:54 - Which is Better, Minecraft or Real Life?0:14:07 - The Art of Castle Crasher vs. The Art of Minecraft0:16:43 - The Two Videogame Genres0:19:40 - "Soulsvania"0:22:42 - But What About Smash Bros?

Big Helmet Heroes est un beat them up dans la lignée de Castle Crashers qui fourmille de milles idées. The brawler is certainly a genre of classics, from Final Fight to Castle Crashers. And recently, the category has enjoyed a certain return to glory with all sorts of new entries suddenly appearing on scene. And yet, is this really a comeback, a true return from the dead? Or is the beat 'em up fated to fade once this little fad, this little trend, runs its course and ends again?Visit lostnostalgia.com for more retro and golden oldie news. Thanks to Decktonic for the opening/closing tune.

On this week's podcast, Dan, Kris, and Dean board the SAG Cartoon Express for a visit to the classic animated series The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3. This wretched cartoon pits everyone's favorite plumbers against King Koopa's neweast ally, Mighty Plumber, A TV Action hero that he somehow tricks into thinking Mario and Luigi are the bad guys. It's terrible, but is it at least fun? What exactly are the logistics of the windows in this show? Why are there surf rock songs sung by the Koopa Kids? Who knows? At the top of the show, Dan's health concerns continue, but he's at least a few steps closer to getting answers. While he navigates the US healthcare system, he's playing through all the mainline Metroid games, or at least he would be if he could find his copy of Samus Returns. Meanwhile, Dean spent some quality time with some Vampire Survivors-like games, Castle Crashers, and Another Crab's Treasure, which is apparently a lot tougher than it sounds. Kris, though, spent a ton of time with NSO, playing through Cobra Triangle, stressing out over Wario's Woods, and actually enjoying Donkey Kong Jr. Math?!? Finally, in Week Old News, chair tossing finds its way into the competitive Mortal Kombat scene, an old Satellaview promotional VHS gets remastered in HD, someone tries to sell The Guy Game at TooManyGames, and more. Blue, green, red, orange... are these Power Rangers? Assorted candies? Actually, they're knights! Castle Crashers is Season 6's co-op game, which we had the pleasure of playing with two others who are dear to us. It's a throwback to the days of yore, when a middle school sleepover meant energy drink-fueled gaming all night long. Is there more to it than the on-screen chaos, or is it all just nostalgia?

EXCLUSIVE NordVPN Deal -> https://nordvpn.com/rtg Try it risk-free now with a 30-day money-back guarantee! I remember when Castle Crashers first released on the Xbox 360 back in the day. I really wanted to play it, but none of my buddies were into a game like this, and I assumed playing it alone would suck. All these years later, I've finally spent a few weeks with it, and it's frigging awesome. Playing alone isn't that bad, and I finally have people to play it with, too! It slots in to a pretty high spot on my favourite beat 'em up games of all-time, and I'm pretty jacked to finally be giving it a turn in the RTG spotlight. Long time hot dog, Holms, sponsored this episode, so he swung by the show to explain why he likes Castle Crashers so much, and to talk about what it was like carrying me through. couple games. And then my good buddy Tyler makes his return to the show to get into the countless hours he spent crashing castles back in the day while also schooling me on the history of Newgrounds (I'm such a boomer...). This game kicks ass, and I hope this episode of the show does it justice! And before we crash castles, I slap together another edition of the 'Remember The Game? Infamous Intro'! This week, someone asks if there are any games I regret playing for the podcast. Do I have any old gaming habits that I haven't been able to shake? And I answer the trillion dollar question: sandwiches or burritos?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! We start this episode with the very midwestern tradition of talking about the changing of seasons. It's fall! There are so many games coming out! We were also lucky enough to record on a Nintendo Direct day, so we talk about the wacky Super Mario Bros. movie casting, N64 and Genesis games being added to the Virtual Cons- oops, I mean Nintendo Switch Online Service, plus the new Kirby, the old KotOR, Bayonetta and more. Our central discussion is on Newgrounds.com, the famous (infamous?) Flash (RIP) portal where many game developers found a platform and community early in their years. We walk through a brief timeline for the site, talk about our discovery of the site and time on the forums, Alien Hominid, Castle Crashers, the Clock Crew, and more. We talked for about 90 minutes but it feels like we barely scratched the surface. Also, Joey still doesn't believe Tom Fulp is CarrotClock. Contact us: prettypixelspodcast@gmail.com We're on Twitter: @Losperman (Joey) and @bigbadron (Ron) 00:04:35: Nintendo Direct! We skim past some stuff, but our main stopping points are: 00:05:50: Chocobo GP 00:09:03: Kirby and the Forgotten Land 00:09:34: Sick burn alert 00:10:55: N64 and Genesis games are being added to the Switch Online in late October; and wireless N64 and Genesis controllers! 00:22:20: Knights of the Old Republic port. Whaaaaaaat? 00:25:42: Bayonetta 3 00:27:29: That Mario movie cast. Phew! What a wild ride 00:40:47: Ron's been playing the moving game, plus some Phasmophobia with Joey 00:42:56: Joey's been playing Life is Strange: True Colors and Deathloop 00:52:26: Newgrounds.com discussion Theme song by lovers.tiff: loverstiff.bandcamp.com
