Martin Shkreli jacked up drug prices, trolled the world, and bought a two million-dollar Wu-Tang album before the age of 35. But the karma (and real) police came for the Pharma Bro when the world caught wind of his price-gouging antics on life saving medicine. From hedge fund schemes to court-room memes, Martin earned the now infamous title of “Most Hated Man in America”.Kyle Prue (How to Piss Off Men) and Miles Bonsignore (Perfect Person, Try Guys) join Misha to give Martin Shkreli a taste of his own medicine. In this heartfelt episode of Hollywood Live, Tanya Hart sends love and condolences to Mariah Carey, who recently shared the heartbreaking news of losing both her mother, Patricia, and her sister, Alison, on the same day over the weekend. Mariah expressed gratitude for having spent her mother's final week with her and thanked everyone for their love and support during this difficult time. Tanya reflects on Mariah's 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, where she spoke of her complex relationship with her mother, filled with a “rainbow of emotions.” Tanya also dives into the latest legal drama surrounding Martin Shkreli, the notorious “Pharma Bro.” A judge has ordered Shkreli to hand over all copies of the rare Wu-Tang Clan album, Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, by Friday. The ruling follows a lawsuit by an NFT collective that owns the original album, alleging Shkreli secretly made and hid copies around the world. With Wu-Tang Clan members feeling the sting of this controversy, Tanya reminds us of the unexpected value of art and the importance of knowing one's worth. In over 150 episodes, we have never covered more crypto drama in a single episode than this one — not by a long shot. As usual, we'll start with a rundown of Bitcoin in the past 24 hours, explaining why the price has felt stuck for so long, the insane number of short positions in BTC, and why one popular statistic about Bitcoin miners is misleading. Then it's onto the drama, with Kraken claiming it is being extorted for $3 million by a mystery security research team, which then outed itself publicly, and Arkham has put out a $150,000 bounty to find out who is behind TrumpCoin, as rumors abound about “Pharma Bro” Martin Shkreli and Barron Trump.Further reading:Why is Bitcoin price stuck?‘Insane amount' of Bitcoin shorters are hoping it won't go to $70KBitcoin miner reserves drop to lowest in 14 yearsKraken says its being extorted following bug bounty reportCertiK identified Kraken exploit, claims exchange ‘threatened' its team‘Pharma Bro' claims Barron Trump holds private keys to DJT tokenReferences:So, grab yourself a coffee, and let's get into it!@PastryEth's summary of key moments from Martin Shkreli's SpaceRise'n'Crypto is brought to you by Cointelegraph and is hosted and produced by Robert Baggs. Some of you may remember "The Pharma Bro" who raised the cost of medicine 1000%. He recently appeared on a podcast and it led us to consider the question. Should medicine be sacrasanct? Is it really that different ot other businesses and is being sanctimonious about it just going to get in the way of progress? We discuss whether Shkreli is fully morally developed, mid-term vs short-term moral optimization and the Heinz thought experiment (is it ok to steal medicine?). Remember Martin Shrkeli? He was the so-called “Pharma Bro” who raised the price of an anti-viral drug for AIDS patients from $13.50 to $750 a pill. His arrogance and lack of empathy came to embody all that was wrong with the unregulated drug market. But not much is known about Skreli beyond the media hype. Where did he come from, what were his motives, what happend to him, and where is he now? We take a deep dive into the man once dubbed “the most hated man in America.”

This episode originally aired on May 30th, 2022. ***Oh hello! James McMahon here. It's been a time! I'm currently working on season 2 of Shame, a podcast about... shame, but I thought I'd share one episode of it early, mainly because the person I'm speaking to today - the journalist Christie Smythe - is writing a book, Smirk, about her relationship with the notorious ‘pharma bro' Martin Shkreli. You know Martin Shkreli. Hedge fund dude. Bit of a troll. Actually, and I say this as a Wu-Tang Clan fan, a lot of a troll. Massively hiked the prices of life saving pharmaceutical drugs. Went to prison for securities fraud, though he's in a half-way house now. You know who Christie is too. You read about her in the 2020 ELLE piece 'The Journalist and the Pharma Bro'. You read it (and in the unlikely event you didn't, you should do that now). The internet went bonkers, and you probably had opinions about it and her and Martin. Donald Trump did. And Hillary Clinton. Bernie Sanders too. But Christie – who is a very good journalist and an excellent writer, it should be said – has often been shrouded by the hysteria that surrounds Martin. And so now you can get the truth about what happened when a woman fell for – and I quote the Elle article here – ‘one of the least liked men in the world' by subscribing for missives from Christie's book at smirk-book.com.I hope you enjoy this conversation. Season 6 of the Crazy Town Podcast 10 Minutes or Less "Pharma Bro Rug Pull"
In September 2015, Martin Shkreli quickly became ‘the most hated man in America' after he raised the price of the life-saving drug, Daraprim, by more than 4,000% - almost overnight. Instead of apologising or hiding away, Shkreli decided to lean into his villain image, with even more media appearances and antagonising acts. In an interview with The Hustle magazine, Shkreli was quoted as saying: “People want a villain,” “If people derive some psychological benefit from that, then I don't want to deprive them of it. I'll be your villain.” Shkreli lied with regularity, harassed female journalists and even took on the Wu-Tang Clan. At his securities fraud trial almost 200 jurors were ‘excused' during jury selection because as one juror said: “The only thing I'd be impartial about is what prison this guy goes to.” In part two, Dr Julia Shaw and Sofie Hagen discuss the latest research on ‘hate'. Why do we hate? Whom do we hate? And can one love to be hated? They also talk about jury selection and whether it is ever possible to have a completely unbiased jury.CREDITS Presenters: Dr Julia Shaw and Sofie Hagen Producer: Simona Rata Music: Matt Chandler Editor: Anna Lacey #BadPeople_BBC Commissioning Assistant Producer: Adam Eland Commissioning Executive: Dylan Haskins Bad People is produced in partnership with The Open University and is a BBC Audio Science Production for BBC Sounds.
In September 2015, Martin Shkreli's name made headlines. He quickly became ‘the most hated man in America' after he raised the price of the life-saving drug, Daraprim, by more than 4,000% - almost overnight. He was vilified by the press and the public alike and was often referred to as ‘pharma bro', a representation of everything that was seemingly wrong with Big Pharma. Was Martin Shkreli unfairly singled out? How was any of it legal? And is ruthlessness in business justified? This is part one of two. On this episode of Bad People Dr Julia Shaw and Sofie Hagen discuss greed and whether it's inherently bad. This episode includes audio from the 2021 documentary ‘Pharma Bro' by Blumhouse Productions, directed by Brent Hodge. It's time for our monthly movie review and this week we are tackling Big Pharma and 90's nostalgia all in one episode! Kayla discusses the horrors of Martin Shkreli, the healthcare system, and the documentary itself in Pharma Bro (6:47). Afterwards, Justin jumps back in time to the glory days of Blockbuster, its eventual financial downfall, and the determination of Sandi Harding in The Last Blockbuster (29:33). As always, we close out with our SOTW (49:46)
If ever there was a villain origin story...this is it. Pharma Bro is a profiling of the notorious Martin Shkreli, the pharmaceutical tycoon and resident weirdo from Brooklyn, New York. You may remember him from hits like raising the cost of Daraprim by 5000% or from buying the infamous Wu Tang Clan album for 2 million to use it as a coaster. What's even more baffling are the lengths the filmmaker went to get up close and personal with this myth of a man.
This week, Alex and Clara wrap up Frauduary by talking about the two worst people on the planet. Clara talks about Robert David Hendy Freeguard from the documentary The Puppet Master and Alex tells us about Martin Shkreli from the documentary Pharma Bro. Cameos include Duran Duran and the Wu-Tang Clan.
This week the ladies ask the question, are Paul and Chelsea from Maya's thrift store pint glass still married? Maya introduces Amy to the safety coffin, a very real Victorian-era invention that allows one to ring a bell if they are accidentally buried alive. This week's animal/concert report features Metallica's COVID sniffing tour dogs. Next, Amy asks Maya for her hot take on Carrie Bradshaw's Indian outfit in the most recent episode of the dumpster fire known as And Just Like That. Spoiler alert: That's not a sari Carrie! Stop calling it that! Also, that "sari store" only has 10 outfits, none of which are actually saris. Matrix 4 and Don't Look Up get quick reviews. Finally, Maya and Amy dissect the $4 million government sale of Wu-Tang Clan's one-of-a-kind album Once Upon a Time in Shaolin once owned by Pharma Bro, Martin Shkreli. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/the-spirit-of-77/message
