At 57, Ronnie was living a healthy, active life as a health coach, marathon runner, and triathlete. She had always taken great care of her health and never imagined that cancer would be part of her story—until June of 2018 after a routine colonoscopy, Ronnie was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer that had spread to liver, lungs, peritoneum and lymph nodes. Faced with this grim prognosis, she chose to take an active role in her treatment. Ronnie opted for traditional chemotherapy but also incorporated naturopathic treatments into her regimen. Ronnie believed this combination would help support her body during the chemotherapy and aid in her healing. The journey wasn't easy, but the balance of conventional medicine and natural therapies helped her to stay strong and cope with the challenges she faced. Looking back, Ronnie realizes that her success wasn't just the result of traditional treatments or naturopathic therapies—it was her mindset, resilience, and refusal to give up. Cancer tried to take her life, but instead, it gave her a new one, one filled with gratitude, strength, and a deeper understanding of what truly matters. During a routine medical appointment, William's doctor wanted to follow up with a CT scan due to concerns with his blood results. The CT showed something concerning in his lower right lung and a biopsy confirmed it was stage IV metastatic melanoma. William did surgery to remove the cancer and then began immunotherapy, but ultimately had to stop due to an autoimmune reaction. At this point his oncologist gave him a prognosis of 8-10 months to live. So, William took matters into his own hands. He researched alternative treatments and found two that were natural and affordable. After six months of following these natural options and implementing the Radical Remission healing factors, his CT scans were clear and have remained so ever since. Learn how to create a healing sanctuary within your home! My guest, Mahwish Syed, is a fashion and interior designer, author, and cancer survivor. In this episode, she talks about how the elements in your home - including fabrics, windows, lighting, and more - help you heal. Mahwish, a breast cancer survivor, wrote about her journey in her book "Purgatory to Paradise." While she was in the chemotherapy ward of the hospital, Mahwish realized that the design elements of the hospital room were not conducive to healing. She began bringing in her own fabrics and lighting to help her during her long treatment days. When she returned home, she surveyed her home, and changed several things to create a sanctuary that would support the healing she needed. We talk about the impact of lighting on our circadian rhythms, why indoor air can be harmful, and how to choose non-toxic fabrics for carpeting, Mahwish shares how reclaiming beauty in our lives, especially while healing from illness, is vital. With her extensive background in design, Mahwish helps clients design spaces that are optimized for optimal health. Learn more.

Is your life transition leading to authentic discovery or are you falling victim to another toxic trap? James Barnes has spent the majority of his life trying to find his authentic self in a world that desperately needed him to conform to pre-approved stereotypes. Several times he tried to find his true path, only to find himself trying to fit into a different, equally ill-fitting, pre-defined box. "We're deeply trained to please other people. Often, in key transitions, we trade one false identity only to completely embrace another - simply because that's what other people want from us. We must learn to avoid pre-defined stereotypes and look inward if we want to find our true selves."James Barnes is an entrepreneur, teacher, and bridge-builder. After being born and raised in a Christian home, James spent years trying to figure out where he fit in. It wasn't until eight years ago, when James came out as trans, that he started to find the answers he was looking for. James' story is an inspiring one of resilience, self-discovery, and the power of owning your identity. Through his coaching and online activism, James is creating a safe space for honest, vulnerable, and bold conversations about masculinity, mental health, trans rights, and all of life's transitions.Resources:"Permission to Feel" by Dr. Marc Brackett James' "Connect Course" MUST WATCH James' post on toxic distancing in male relationships.Other episodes you'll enjoy: #101 Jaxon - "The Man at My Wedding." This week on the Good Dog Pod, Laura Reeves is accompanied by Dr. Chris Zink, DVM. Dr. Zink is a canine sports medicine and rehabilitation specialist. What is a sports medicine and rehabilitation specialist? A veterinary specialist is someone who has done a three year residency specializing in learning about a very specific field. At the end of that three year period, the specialist has to pass a very complicated examination that requires months of studying. There also are many people who have attended rehabilitation training. Rehabilitation training often requires hundreds of hours of classroom and laboratory time, and oftentimes requires an internship. If we are talking about people who have a certification in rehabilitation, there are four main groups that offer these certifications. Four main groups that offer the certification: https://www.caninerehabinstitute.com/ (Canine Rehabilitation Institute) https://healingoasis.edu/ (Healing Oasis) https://www.ivmi.us/ (Integrative Veterinary Medical Institute) https://www.neseminars.com/animal-science/ (Northeast Seminars) A person who is certified in rehabilitation therapy might be a veterinarian, or they may be a physical therapist, in which case they aren't trained to do the veterinary component, but rather the rehabilitation component. They may in fact be a veterinary nurse who isn't trained to make diagnoses either. If you find yourself with a dog who may have an orthopedic injury, first you want to go to your general practitioner veterinarian. They are familiar with your dog and they know you. Should you need a referral, Dr. Zink recommends not to go to a certified rehabilitation professional but rather to an orthopedic surgeon or a sports medicine specialist. Remember: veterinarian first! How would your dog be treated? Some examples include laser therapy, therapeutic ultrasound, shockwave therapy, massage or other kinds of manipulation. For more information on dog rehabilitation, check out this week's episode! Will you be attending Westminster 2021? Join us for a Breeder Appreciation Party on Friday, June 11th. My dog is having trouble walking and my vet said he was neurologic?!?! What does this mean for my dog? What treatments can I use with my vet’s care? Can chiropractic care be a contribution? Join me and Dr. Eken as we de-mystify “neurologic” and what that can mean for your dog and just how much chiropractic care can contribute to changing that for your dog with ease… Rachel Eken is thrilled to be able to serve the human and ANIMAL chiropractic community of Colorado Springs, CO. As a native Wisconsinite, I vow never to take the beautiful mountains for granted. Throughout my time at chiropractic school, I developed a much deeper understanding of chiropractic, and true health and wellness that can be achieved without drugs and surgery. I learned from some of the best doctors in the field, but the most influential experience during my time at there was my Clinic Abroad trip to Morocco in October of 2013. It was such an honor and a blessing to be able to serve such amazing people that don’t have the healthcare that we have access to everyday here in the United States. Dr. Eken graduated from Healing Oasis in May 2014. The Healing Oasis Wellness Center, is an educational institution located in Wisconsin. Magick and the Healing Arts have developed hand in hand through the long centuries of human history. Before the advent of modern chemistry, the medical and ritual needs of peoples in all societies were met with the careful harvest, formulation and application of herbal medicines. Derived from ingredients found locally, in forest, meadow, and stream, these elixirs, philtres, oils and salves saved lives and transfigured awareness. Using observation and an intricate understanding of the natural world—from the astrological movement of the stars and planets, to the cycles of the earth’s seasons – the ancients knew when and where to gather herbs for peak potency and efficacy. This knowledge, as applicable today as it was millennia ago, is gathered here in an easy-to-use compendium. Master herbalist and magickal practitioner Karen Harrison shows how to select herbs based on their astrological associations as well as their medicinal properties. With a material magica of more than 150 herbs and a multitude of recipes, readers will learn how to blend incense, ceremonial oils, bath salts, herbal amulets, fluid condensers, and herbal philtres; and how to use them in meditation, ritual, or energy work.
