Courtroom Calling: Col. Greg Thompson and Katie BakerPractice may not always make perfect, but at Cedarville University, it launches futures. The University's mock trial team is preparing students for legal careers and inspiring them to model the love of Christ in the courtroom.Colonel (Ret.) Greg Thompson, a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps, brought his extensive legal background to Cedarville as a Professor of Criminal Justice. With experience in criminal prosecution, defense, and national security law — as well as time coaching mock trial at the U.S. Air Force Academy — he was well-equipped to launch the University's mock trial program. One of the first students on the team was Katie Baker, a passionate social work major who found her calling in the courtroom.Katie, now heading to the University of Akron School of Law, first stepped into the world of legal advocacy through Cedarville's new mock trial team. Inspired by her internship in children's services, she witnessed firsthand the heartache — and hope — found in family law. Her drive to stand in the gap for hurting children and families only deepened through the team.Mock trial at Cedarville is more than competition. It's a training ground for future advocates built on biblical truth and a commitment to excellence. Students wrestle through 250-page case files, face unpredictable courtroom twists, and stand with poise, shaped by Col. Thompson's guidance and reminders that every courtroom mirrors the deeper truth that Christ stands as our advocate.Though the team didn't claim a championship trophy this year, they competed with heart against top-tier programs — and earned respect for both their skill and the faith that underpins it.In just two seasons, Cedarville's mock trial team has built an extraordinary legacy where faith meets advocacy and students like Katie step boldly into the future.Hear Katie and Col. Thompson share the team's formative and funny stories on this week's episode of the Cedarville Stories podcast.https://share.transistor.fm/s/d8a69d2chttps://youtu.be/twmISdeAsJk

Does where you live influence your style? And if it does, which has the better style - the East Coast or the West Coast? Obviously, we're not going to pretend to be able to settle this topic once and for all in a single podcast episode! However, we do explore whether regional style can truly exist in a world where retail chains offer the same items across the country, and around the world. To dig deeper into this topic, we've invited two experts, both Certified Stylists in the Everyday Style Network. Representing the West Coast is Morgen Peters, a wife and mother of four who's passionate about helping women create casual wardrobes that suit their current life phase. On the East Coast, we have Katie Valentine, who believes great style is about showing up rather than showing off. She equips her clients with the tools to embrace their signature style and build wardrobes that complement their lifestyle. We talked about things that would look out of place on each coast, as well as their closet staples, and of course, how to make the same merchandise we all have access to look individual and appropriate for any regional style. In other super exciting news, The Style Network Training program is coming back! The next round starts October 30, and we've updated the program so that you can take part wherever you are in the world! Plus, we've added four incredible bonuses to help you through the biggest roadblocks new business owners face. If you've ever thought a wardrobe styling business could be right for you, you owe it to yourself to take the next step to your dream career! Visit our new Style Network website for more details! In this episode: Katie and Morgen's different routes to becoming successful professional stylists Does where you live affect how you dress? Are you looking to create more success, joy, energy, and momentum in your life and business? Maybe you’re looking for more clarity around what you should be doing in life and how to open that door for success. You, my friend, are not alone. I’ve seen so many people get caught up in going down a path they feel obligated to go down because of some life experience they’ve had or what they saw someone else do. In reality, we should be paying more attention to what feels right and aligned than what we think we are supposed to be doing. We only live one life, so we deserve to do the thing that lights us up and makes us feel connected to our purpose. That’s why I’m so excited to have Katie Irvine on the IHML Show. Katie is an amazingly insightful woman and Human Design expert (she used to be one of our VAs!) who has so much to offer in terms of helping people utilize their Human Design to better their lives (and businesses). Katie’s passion for Human Design comes from a place of personal experience. She witnessed first hand how alignment with her energy and design can transform your life. After learning about Human Design for the first time (at an IHML retreat) she was obsessed and knew she wanted to help others use Human Design to find more peace and happiness in their own lives (we recently invited her to do this with our Mastermind students). Fast forward a few years and that’s exactly what she is doing in her own business today (and she absolutely loves it). Listen as we dive into all the things from Katie’s own experiences with Human Design (and ultimately starting her business) to how you too can benefit in your life and business by better understanding your own design. For those of you new to the whole Human Design thing, don’t worry. Katie explains exactly what it is (including a breakdown of the five main design types) and how it can help you not only better understand yourself, but how you best interact with everything happening around you as well. I’m telling you, once you understand your design type, you can better tap into your energy and literally change your life-- just like Katie did. So, if you are ready to stop doing what doesn’t feel right and start learning how to better align with your energy and the world around you, this episode is for you. So, why wait? If you don’t know it already, I recommend you find out about your Human Design today (Katie recommends using myBodyGraph.com) because it will help you pave the path toward success and happiness in every aspect of your life. P.S. If you like what you hear in this episode (I know you will), be sure to check out Katie’s special promo code for IHML Show listeners. Use promo code ‘iheartmylife’ to get 33% off Katie’s incredible Energy Types Classes so you can begin learning more about your specific design and how it can help you live your best life today. In this episode… [02:27] Welcome Katie and hear her journey with Human Design. [05:04] Hear Katie explain her struggle finding her own path. [09:19] What drew Katie to Human Design? [12:00] Listen as Katie explains how Human Design helped her step into her true self. [15:01] What exactly is Human Design? [17:35] Katie explains how to use your chart to better utilize your energy and find success. [21:03] How Katie started her own business with Human Design (including all the struggles!). [28:00] The importance of showing up in a way that feels right. [28:50] Hear about what Katie offers through her business.
