Today he inspires people to take control of their lives no matter what challenges they face, never to play the victim, and he encourages people to count their blessings and smile to promote good mental health outcomes. Chris came to Petersfield to speak to students at Churcher's College. Shine Radio's Stephen Martin met him there.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Warren: On today's program, Morningstar Ministries is undergoing a leadership shakeup…after its CEO resigned, allegations of sexual misconduct began to arise. We'll have details. And, many Christian colleges have fallen on hard times. But a Christian university in Georgia has been trying out new ways to grow enrollment…and it appears to be working. We'll take a look. Plus, Trinity International University is on the look out for a new president….just six months after its current president took the reins. Natasha: But first, the National Religious Broadcasters is suing the I-R-S over the Johnson Amendment.. Warren: A group of evangelical broadcasters is suing the Internal Revenue Service over the Johnson Amendment, a tax law that bars nonprofits from supporting political candidates. Lawyers for the National Religious Broadcasters, along with two Baptist churches and a conservative group called Intercessors for America, argue in their suit that the ban on engaging in politics restricts their freedom of speech and freedom of religion. They further argue that the IRS ignores the politicking of some charities, while threatening to punish others. Natasha: Do they have examples to support their claim? Warren: Lawyers for the groups claim that newspapers and other news outlets that have become nonprofits in recent years, such as the Philadelphia Inquirer, endorse candidates. Why can't churches or other Christian groups, they want to know, do the same? Natasha: The lawsuit is the latest challenge to the Johnson Amendment, a 1954 law that has long been the bane of conservative groups and, in particular, preachers seeking to become more involved in politics. The ban on taking sides in campaigns — including endorsements or campaign contributions — applies to nonprofits that fall under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code. Warren: The current lawsuit pitches its argument toward religious freedom principles. But the growing number of nonprofit newsrooms has added a new twist to the arguments over the Johnson Amendment that has to do with fairness. Those newsrooms, the complaint argues, should be required to abide by the same rules as other charities. The complaint points specifically to the Inquirer's candidate endorsements, as well as articles critical of candidates in other nonprofit publications from 2012 to the present, claiming all violated IRS rules with impunity. A spokesman for the IRS declined to comment, citing the pending litigation. The NRB did not respond to a series of questions from RNS about the lawsuit. Chris Moon is a motivational speaker. He talks about his own experience of facing challenging situations, that many people would have struggled to cope with. This includes being blown up whilst supervising mine-clearance in Mozambique, barely surviving and ending up minus an arm and a leg. He became the world's first amputee ultra-distance runner; he's experienced being in dark places and finding a way out of them. A key principle that Chris speaks about is that we should all challenge the concept of limitations we face through life. In this episode, we discuss: his background in farming and the army, which helped shape his approach to resilience, the importance of connecting with others and avoiding isolation, how humour provides such a vital role as a coping mechanism, the benefits of making people feel valued and listened to through our communication. Chris Moon had his first paranormal experience at the age of seven. Daily occurrences from that time on included objects disappearing and reappearing; doors opening and closing on their own fruition, strange shadows and light anomalies, and nightly haunted sonnets on the family's one hundred year old grand piano. He also discovered that he had a definite psychic/medium sense, and began traveling on his life journey doing remedial paranormal investigations at a mere 13 years of age. A musician by trade, Chris spent many years playing in and touring with Rock and Metal bands. Eventually his interest in the paranormal overtook his passion for music, and Chris chose to become a full-time professional investigator. Wanting the paranormal community and general public to become aware of what he had known for years, that the paranormal existed and could be documented, he partnered with his father, a devout skeptic, in developing a magazine that would represent a truly balanced view of the subject. Consequently, Haunted Times Magazine was born in 2004, and was considered the largest and best paranormal magazine in the world, as voted by the International Paranormal Acknowledgement Committee. While searching for magazine staff in 2003, Chris was contacted by an engineer by trade, Frank Sumption, who claimed to have a device that allowed two-way audio communication with spirits. Skeptical, Chris met with Mr. Sumption at his workshop for a demonstration. Chris was astounded to find that the device that Frank Sumption had built was actually designed through the E.V.P. (Electronic Voice Phenomena) of deceased scientists. It quickly became obvious to Chris what Frank Sumption had done; he had completed the infamous Thomas Edison Telephone to the Dead. Frank graciously offered to give Chris one of the machines to use in the field. He accepted, and first used the device while investigating the famous Sallie House in Atchison, Kansas. The machine worked flawlessly, and Chris and his team collected real time E.V.P. evidence directly from the spirits in the house. Chris refers to this device at the Spirit Telephone. It is also referred to as The Telephone to the Dead, and most commonly, Frank's Box. No matter what the name, the device has become an invaluable tool in Chris's paranormal research.

Chris Moon helps people and organisations around the world grow and improve personal and team performance. He's been a keynote speaker and run change and leadership programs for over twenty years working with the public and private sector and international business schools. He's one of the most fortunate people to be alive you're likely to meet. His exploits have been covered in a Discovery documentary I Shouldn't Be Alive. Chris is a former British Army Officer with three year's operational experience who left to work for a charity clearing landmines. He's survived being taken prisoner in Cambodia by the Khmer Rouge (one of the most brutal terror groups in history) and negotiated his release and that of two colleagues from threatened execution. In 1995 he was blown up in a supposedly safe area of a minefield in remote East Africa losing an arm and a leg (ironically doing one of the least dangerous things he did). He survived initially because he treated himself. About fourteen hours after injury he arrived in South Africa where doctors say they'd never seen anyone live with such a small amount of blood. He recovered four times faster than expected and in 1996; within a year of leaving hospital ran the London Marathon, raised significant sums to help disabled people in the developing world and successfully completed a full time Master's-Degree in human behaviour. Chris taught himself to run and is thought to be the world's first amputee ultra-distance runner after completing the Marathon De Sables in 1997. He's run the world's toughest ultra-marathons and most recently the Badwater Death Valley 135 mile ultra. He's led numerous teams to complete rigorous challenges ranging from climbing mountains to cycling the length of Cambodia. Chris has a passion for the process of achievement and uses his unique experiences to help people do what they do better. He speaks with enthusiasm and humour on resilience, change, personal and strategic leadership and all aspects of behavioural choices. His interactive presentations and workshops are tailored to deliver desired outcomes and actions. #InspiringLeadership #leadership #CEO #MotivationalSpeaker #teamcoach #InclusiveLeadership #Boards See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

The DO Lectures is an ideas sharing event run out of an old cowshed in Cardigan Bay, Wales. In this series of DO podcasts, Gav Thompson chats to people about how they have achieved their amazing levels of success, as well as uncovering some of the despites that they have had to overcome to get there. In this episode, Chris Moon MBE talks to Gav about his unbelievable life story. After leaving the army, David worked for the Halo Trust clearing land mines. In 1993 whilst working in Cambodia, he was kidnapped by the Khmer Rouge (one of the most brutal terror groups in history), but somehow he managed to survive. Two years later, whilst clearing mines in Mozambique, he trod on a mine, blew himself up and ended up losing his right leg and arm. Amazingly, less than a year after this terrible accident, Chris ran the London marathon with a prosthetic leg and arm, and less than a year after that he became an Ultra-marathon runner and completed the notorious 156 mile Marathon Des Sables in the Sahara Desert, in doing so he became the first amputee ultra-runner. Chris sums up the spirit of "Being Amazing Despite...". He has an amazing story and incredible resilience. I found chatting to him truly inspirational. Please do have a listen, leave a review, rating and subscribe. Thank you.

Less than a year after leaving hospital he completed the London Marathon and now runs the world’s toughest ultra-marathons. He’s also one of the few Westerners to have survived being taken prisoner by Khmer Rouge. In this week’s show, we find out why Chris was kidnapped by the Khmer Rouge and how he negotiated his release. How he defied all expectations to run the London Marathon after losing his lower right leg and arm in an explosion clearing land mines and why the biggest limits in life are those, we impose on ourselves often without even realising it. Bio Chris Moon is one of the most fortunate people to be alive you’re likely to meet. He should be dead many times over and his exploits have been covered in a Discovery documentary with the cheerful title I Shouldn’t Be Alive. Chris is a former British Army Officer with three years operational experience who left to work for a charity clearing landmines. He survived being taken prisoner in Cambodia by the Khmer Rouge (one of the most brutal terror groups in history) and negotiated his release and that of two colleagues from threatened execution. In 1995 he was blown up in a supposedly safe area of a minefield in remote East Africa losing an arm and a leg. He survived initially because he treated himself. About fourteen hours after injury he arrived in South Africa where doctors said they’d never seen anyone live with such a small amount of blood. He recovered three or four times faster than was expected, was out of hospital in less than two months and within a year of leaving hospital ran the London Marathon, raised significant sums to help disabled people in the developing world and successfully completed a full time Masters Degree. Chris Moon taught himself to run and is the world’s first amputee ultra distance runner. In 1997 he completed the gruelling Marathon De Sables. Since then he’s run the world’s toughest ultra-marathons, including the Badwater Death Valley 135 mile ultra and the West Highland Way 95 mile Race which he recently completed, while trialling a new running leg. He’s run numerous ultra-distance events and several one thousand mile events. When it comes to challenging the concept of limitation, adapting to change and overcoming adversity he literally walks the talk. Chris helps people do what they do better. He draws on his unique experiences to illustrate principles people can use in their daily lives. As well as a practical understanding of human performance in the most extreme situations and overcoming adversity, Chris also holds a Master’s Degree in human behaviour and management theory. As a speaker Chris delivers humour, passion and inspiration. Topics include change, motivation, risk and safety, communication, improving sales and personal and strategic leadership. He runs short workshops to improve individual and team performance & coaches and mentors a wide variety of executives.
