Munaf Manji and Dave Essler talk betting for Wednesday. Munaf Manji returned with a solo edition of Catch That Ticket on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, keeping the focus strictly on the NBA while Uncle Dave enjoyed a day off on the golf course. The pod opened with momentum, as the duo improved to 4 and 0 on best bets for the week following a 2 and 0 sweep the previous night. Uncle Dave cashed Missouri plus 3.5 in an outright win over Tennessee, while Manji delivered with Paolo Banchero over on points, rebounds, and assists as Banchero poured in 36 points in Orlando's 110 to 109 victory over the Lakers. Manji briefly addressed listener feedback, thanking supporters for positive reviews while emphasizing that the core mission remains consistent, beating the books and putting money in listeners' pockets. Tuesday's NBA recap highlighted Cleveland's 109 to 94 win over the Knicks in a game that stayed under the total, Toronto's home loss to Oklahoma City despite key Thunder absences, Boston's 97 to 81 win over Phoenix without Jaylen Brown, and Orlando's road victory in Los Angeles. Looking ahead to Wednesday's slate, Manji broke down several back to back scenarios. Oklahoma City travels to Detroit after playing in Toronto, and the Thunder have struggled on the second leg of back to backs with a 1 and 8 record against the spread. Detroit, one of the league's top defensive teams with a 108.3 season long defensive rating and strong recent form, is positioned as a measuring stick opponent. With both teams ranking in the top five defensively over the last 10 games and playing at below average pace, Manji leaned under 219.5 in that matchup, while also favoring the Pistons minus 7.5. In Toronto, the Spurs visit the Raptors, who are also on a back to back. San Antonio enters healthy and playing balanced basketball, benefiting from multiple contributors alongside Wemby. With Toronto trending under in these spots and covering just 40 percent on the second leg of back to backs, Manji backed Spurs minus 7.5 and also targeted a Raptors team total under 110.5. In Houston, the Rockets host the Kings as heavy 13.5 point favorites. Sacramento snapped a 16 game losing streak but continues to struggle defensively, ranking near the bottom of the league. Houston has shown offensive efficiency against weaker defenses, and despite playing at a slow pace, has capitalized in favorable matchups. Rather than lay the large spread, Manji preferred the Rockets team total over 118.5. The marquee matchup features Boston in Denver, with the Nuggets laying 3.5 and a total of 229.5. Boston has been strong on back to backs, going 6 and 3 against the number and 7 and 2 to the under. Both teams rank first and second in offensive rating season long, yet play at slow pace, with Boston dead last in pace and Denver below league average. Manji projected a half court game and favored the under 229.5 while also leaning Nuggets minus 3.5 in a bounce back spot. He also noted Boston's resilience without Jayson Tatum, highlighting their depth and efficiency, and suggested the Celtics remain a team to monitor in futures markets. Manji closed by promoting discounted college basketball packages at pregame.com using promo code EAST25 and confirmed his best bet for the night as Rockets team total over 118.5, aiming to extend the podcast's winning streak to five straight. In this episode of the Restaurant Operator Podcast, host Mandy Detwiler, editor of Pizza Marketplace and QSRweb, talks with Brian Simowitz, president, and Andie Smirl, director of franchise sales, for Houston TX Hot Chicken. The Nashville hot chicken concept launched during COVID in 2020 in Las Vegas. The brand now has 31 units.Part of what draws diners to the concept is its electric brand energy. With more than 400,000 social media followers, Houston TX Hot Chicken seems to be striking a nerve with consumers."The energy that you get from that level of social media followers that are engaging with our brand on a daily basis is unbelievable. So, you know, and it gives us a lot of relevance with new franchisees coming in as well, because they look at it and go, man, this brand is crazy," Simowitz said during the podcast. "And I'll share with you, quite honestly, we get a lot of potential franchise leads just from our social media and how big that social media footprint is."Smirl joined the brand when it had already sold more than 100 units and said a lot of the brand's leads are truly organic."A lot of our leads are truly organic," she said during the podcast. "They are coming in because (potential franchisees) either tried the food or they've seen our social media. They've seen our content, either on LinkedIn or Instagram, something like that. So we're really lucky that we don't really have to sell that part of it. It's already really exciting to just see the brand. So I think that we get to be pretty strategic in kind of how we decide to grow."We don't want to just throw one restaurant across the country where our support is in Vegas. We want to be available and ideally in the same time zone for a little while at least where we can just kind of strategically grow to best support our franchisees. So we're pretty lucky in that and we don't take that for granted, but we want to be really smart about who we partner with."To learn more about how Houston TX Hot Chicken attracts top-tier franchisees, what the brand's leaders look for in franchise partners and what the future holds for the company, listen to the podcast in its entirety.
Whitney Elkins-Hutten of PassiveInvesting.com interviews Sam Morris of LSCRE about the $44M acquisition of Discovery at West Road, a 280-unit multifamily property in Houston's Cypress submarket. Sam explains how financial—not physical—distress created the opportunity and why certainty of close mattered more than being the highest bidder. He walks through in-house due diligence, uncovering operational issues, deferred maintenance, and the decision to replace on-site management immediately after takeover. The conversation also covers the 5-year Freddie Mac fixed-rate, interest-only loan at 65% LTV, the equity raise, a 7% preferred return with a 70/30 split, and how declining insurance costs in Houston improved the deal. Sam closes by sharing why location within Cypress ISD made this asset stand out and what he'd do differently next time.

Register for the LIVE GovClose Workshop! Houston TX 25 March 2025https://www.govclose.com/workshopGovClose Certification Overview: https://www.govclose.comMost companies think government funding works like a normal bank account. It does not.The federal government uses strict funding rules tied to appropriation law, fiscal year timing, and what is commonly called the “Colors of Money.” These rules determine whether a contract can legally be awarded, not just whether an agency says it has funding available. In this video, I break down the three-part framework that controls every federal dollar: purpose, time, and amount. You will learn how funding categories like Operations and Maintenance (O&M), Research Development Test and Evaluation (RDT&E), Procurement, and Military Construction (MilCon) impact contract timing, pipeline forecasting, and win probability.I also explain fallout funds and why a large percentage of federal contract obligations happen in Q4. Understanding how funding expires, when agencies identify excess funds, and how experienced contractors position early can change how you build and forecast your federal pipeline. This lesson is based on real acquisition experience and federal spending data patterns. In this episode of MSP Unplugged, host Paco Lebron sits down with Chris Cool, Founder and CEO of Cool Technology Group Inc., a Houston/Texas-based managed IT services provider specializing in cybersecurity, cloud solutions, remote/on-site support, and more for small to medium businesses. Chris shares his inspiring journey—from his days as a University of Colorado student-athlete spending more time in the mountains than in class, to diving into the copier and telecom industry in Dallas in the early 2000s. He climbed the ranks quickly, starting as an Account Executive at Intermedia Communications and rising to Senior VP on the West Coast (while based in Houston), building, growing, and even selling multiple organizations along the way. The conversation gets real about launching Cool Technology Group in January 2020—just as the pandemic hit—and how Chris navigated that chaos to build a thriving MSP. He opens up about the secret sauce to standing out in a crowded market, the toughest hurdles he's faced (and how he pushed through), his proudest moments, balancing family life in Tomball, Texas, with running the company, and his outlook on emerging trends like cybersecurity threats and tech advancements that small businesses need to watch. Whether you're a solo MSP operator or scaling a team, this episode is packed with practical insights, entrepreneurial grit, and advice for anyone dreaming of starting or growing their own IT services business.
Send us a textWith the UDRIS meteor shower lighting up the night and Atlas supposedly still holding the sky together, Mike & Blaine ask the big, dumb questions that actually matter. How much of what we're seeing is real, and how much is just our brains trying to explain chaos with comforting stories and myths? The conversation moves from space junk and modern astronomy to ancient sky legends, then lands somewhere very familiar to business and leadership. When uncertainty hits — suddenly, loudly, and without warning — people default to narratives like “this will pass,” “we've seen this before,” or “someone else has it handled.” Sound familiar?Mike & Blaine explore how unexpected events, whether meteors in the sky or shocks in the market, force better thinking if you're willing to slow down. We talk signal vs noise, why timing always feels personal when stress is high, and why Atlas is the perfect metaphor for leadership, responsibility, and the pressure of not dropping the ball.Part cosmic curiosity, part philosophical wandering, and part practical reminder: clarity doesn't come from panic. Whether you're staring at the night sky or a dashboard full of metrics, the real skill isn't predicting the meteor — it's knowing how to think when it shows up. Spoiler: we're still not sure if Atlas shrugged… or sneezed.Head over to mikeandblaine.com and buy us a beer. Send us a textWhy is whisky suddenly everywhere again? In this episode, we explore the surprising resurgence of both Scotch and bourbon — and why new distilleries are opening, bottles are becoming collectibles, and whisky culture feels more relevant than it has in decades. We break down how Scotch whisky has quietly entered a new golden era in Scotland, fueled by premiumization, global demand, experiential tourism, and a return to craftsmanship and patience. At the same time, we look at how bourbon exploded in popularity through American craft culture, cocktail revivals, limited releases, and hype-driven scarcity — and why that rapid growth is now entering a more mature phase. This isn't just a story about alcohol. It's a story about brand building, timing, culture, and business models. Scotch shows the power of slow compounding value, geographic protection, and long-term thinking. Bourbon shows what happens when authenticity, personality, and hype collide — and what businesses can learn when growth happens faster than patience.Whether you're a business owner, brand builder, or just someone fascinated by why certain products come roaring back into the spotlight, this conversation connects whisky's revival to broader lessons about craftsmanship, differentiation, and building something that lasts.

Send us a textIs Bigfoot real… or just the greatest brand never officially launched? As Mike and Blaine kick off Season 6 with a bold pivot diving into the business of pup culture and today's ‘biggest' stories, they head straight into the forest to tackle one of the most enduring mysteries of all time — Bigfoot. From blurry trail-cam photos and questionable eyewitness accounts to conspiracy theories that refuse to die, this episode breaks down the legend of Sasquatch with zero credentials and maximum curiosity. But this isn't just a cryptid campfire story — it's a surprisingly sharp look at how myths are built, why mystery sells, and how Bigfoot has quietly become a global brand without a CEO, marketing team, or LinkedIn profile.Along the way, Mike and Blaine explore what entrepreneurs can learn from Bigfoot's cultural staying power, the business of belief, and why humans love a good story more than cold, hard facts. Send us a textEver build something truly game-changing… only to watch your audience go glassy-eyed the moment you demo it? In this episode, Mike and Blaine break down The Innovator's Trap—that painful gap between building something brilliant and actually getting people to understand (and buy) it. We dig into why powerful features confuse prospects, how founders accidentally over-explain themselves into oblivion, and the psychology behind why customers don't “get it” even when the value is obvious to you. From AI tools to cash flow platforms to startup war stories, we explore the real reasons innovation lands with a thud instead of a round of applause—and how to communicate your product in a way that actually creates demand. If you've ever delivered a demo, watched enthusiasm evaporate, and thought “Oh no… I've made a mistake,” this episode will feel uncomfortably relatable.#innovation #founders #startups #productmarketing #salesstrategyVisit mikeandblaine.com to buy us a beer!Watch on YouTube: https://youtu.be/q5lqjFlK8DABuy us a beer and keep the show rolling at mikeandblaine.com!Featured Beer: @ResidentCultureMike: Neighbour Pat's “Brown Mild”Blaine: Resident Culture “Turnstyle” IPAThanks to our Beer Sponsors: • Rachel Barnett from Gentle Frog: youtube.com/@GentleFrog • Karen Hairston from 3S Smart Consulting: 3ssmartconsulting.com• Larry Weinstein, the Cash Flow Cowboy in Houston Texas!• Neighbor Pat• DevinListen to all our episodes at mikeandblaine.comcashflowmike.comdryrun.comSupport the showCatch more episodes, see our sponsors and get in touch at https://mikeandblaine.com/
Send us a textIn this episode, Mike and Blaine dive into the uncomfortable truth every entrepreneur, advisor, and salesperson eventually faces: sometimes we talk way too much. And when we do, we lose deals, disconnect from clients, and miss the gold hidden in the conversation. Using a tongue-in-cheek comparison between therapists and vendors, the guys break down why the 70/30 rule (listen 70%, talk 30%) is a business superpower—and how mastering silence can actually make you more persuasive, more trusted, and more profitable. Expect candid confessions, a few hilarious self-owns, and practical takeaways on empathy, communication, and understanding what your customers really need. Send us a textSome marketing campaigns leave you laughing for days—and reaching for your wallet—while others land with the grace of a broken shopping cart. In this episode, Mike and Blaine dive deep into one of the most misunderstood (and most powerful) tools in business: humor. We break down why the funniest ads stick in your brain, how laughter builds trust faster than any pitch deck, and when a joke becomes a branding disaster instead of a breakthrough. From iconic Super Bowl commercials to small-town ads that somehow went viral, we explore the psychology behind why comedy boosts engagement, improves recall, and can even drive explosive revenue when done right. We also share the risks: the jokes that miss the mark, the brands that misread the room, and the moments when “being funny” becomes “being forgotten.” Throughout the episode, Mike and Blaine share personal stories, business lessons, and a few questionable punchlines of their own—because sometimes the best way to understand humor in sales is to laugh through the mistakes.Whether you're crafting an ad, pitching a client, or just trying not to be boring on social media, this episode will show you how to use humor strategically, confidently, and profitably. Tune in for a fun, insightful look at how comedy can elevate your brand and turn casual attention into real results.
