John Murray was one of the outstanding Reformed theologians of the 1900s. Earnest and serious, he was also deeply affectionate and much beloved of his students and colleagues. On the 50th anniversary of his death in 1975 we take time to consider his life, theology, and legacy to us today. We caught up with Geoff Thomas at the recent Banner Ministers' Conference in Staffordshire. Geoff, who ministered at Alfred Place Baptist Church for over fifty years, has been a faithful friend of the Banner of Truth Trust. It was a joy to talk with him about his varied associations with the Banner, his friendship with Iain Murray, preaching through Romans, and pastoral visitation, among other topics. This historical address, delivered by Iain Murray a few months after the death of Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones in 1981, reflects on the life and legacy of this great preacher of the gospel. Mr. Murray, a close friend of Dr. Lloyd-Jones and his official biographer, shares personal memories and insights from the final months of Dr. Lloyd-Jones's life. He emphasizes Dr. Lloyd-Jones' deep faith, his preparation for death, and his lifelong commitment to biblical truth. Mr. Murray recounts how Dr. Lloyd-Jones viewed his declining health as an opportunity to prepare spiritually for eternity, rather than lamenting his inability to preach. He highlights Dr. Lloyd-Jones's continued devotion to Scripture reading, prayer, and theological reflection even as his health failed. The address provides glimpses into Dr. Lloyd-Jones's thoughts on death, the sovereignty of God, and the importance of ministers being well-prepared to feed their congregations spiritually. It also touches on key moments in Dr. Lloyd-Jones' life and ministry, including his conversion, call to ministry, and influential tenure at Westminster Chapel in London. Throughout, Mr. Murray emphasizes Dr. Lloyd-Jones's unwavering trust in God's providence and his desire to face death with Christian testimony. The sermon serves as both a tribute to Dr. Lloyd-Jones and an exhortation to other ministers to follow his example of faith, diligence in study, and focus on eternal realities. It provides a deeply personal and moving portrait of one of the 20th century's most significant preachers in his final days.

Just thirty years ago, socialism seemed utterly discredited. An economic, moral, and political failure, socialism had rightly been thrown on the ash heap of history after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Unfortunately, bad ideas never truly go away—and socialism has come back with a vengeance. America has been a notably hard-working society for most of its history—but has become much less so in recent decades. Labor-force participation, especially among men of prime working age, has fallen to levels not seen since the Great Depression and is particularly low in certain regions of the Middle West and South. The decline of work has coincided with declining health status and longevity and high levels of drug addiction.Policy analysts and political leaders have offered widely differing explanations for these discouraging trends, from trade policies and globalization to welfare policies, cultural upheavals, and regulatory suppression of economic opportunities. Their ideas for reversing course have important implications not only for national social and economic welfare, but also for partisan politics, as working-class Americans have been shifting significantly from their traditional home in the Democratic Party to the Republican Party.Join us to learn more about this critical topic as Heritage's Christopher DeMuth moderates a conversation with Oren Cass (author of The Once and Future Worker: A Vision for the Renewal of Work in America), Nicholas Eberstadt (author of Men Without Work), Iain Murray (author of The Socialist Temptation), and former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum (author of Blue Collar Conservatives: Recommitting to an America That Works). Last week, Meta lost its appeal to overturn the Competition and Market Authority's order that it sell Giphy. While the CMA's order that Meta's acquisition of Giphy damaged competition has been retained, it has raised debates over how much power should be afforded to the regulator. The panel includes Aurelien Portuese, Director of the Schumpeter Project at the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation, Iain Murray, Vice President of the Competitive Enterprise Institute and Cento Veljanovski, Managing Director at Case Associates and IEA Academic Fellow. God's Wrath Intensifies on Earth People often don't think about changing their sinful ways until they face their own mortality! Time to repent is running out! The Trumpet judgments are more intense than the seal judgments, less intense then the bowl judgments to come. Read Revelation chapters 8 and 9 The Calm Before the Storm 8:1 Time to repent is running out! The Prayers of the Saints Precede the Trumpet Judgments 8:2-6 Time to repent is running out! God's wrath in the time of Tribulation must be understood in terms of His strategy to save the world! “For I take no pleasure in anyone's death.” This is the declaration of the Lord God. So repent and live!” -Ezekiel 18:32 “The Lord does not delay His promise, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish, but all to come to repentance.” -2 Peter 3:9 The First Four Trumpets: The Physical Elements begin to fail 8:7-13 Time to repent is running out! And so a third of the vegetation burns up at the first trumpet… Time to repent is running out! A third of the sea is messed up at the second trumpet… Time to repent is running out! A third of the drinking water becomes wormwood, or bitter and poisonous at the third trumpet… Time to repent is running out! And then in the fourth trumpet the heavenly lights begin to flicker… What's happening in these first four trumpets? God is taking away the things the sinful world system has relied on, gifts from Him that they have taken for granted. It is love to say “When you are ready, you can always come home!” It is not love to fund a sinful lifestyle! “It was really pathetic to hear my father praying pointedly for me today at family worship, and to think the poor man's supplications were addressed to nothing better able to hear than the chandelier.” -Robert Louis Stephenson, quoted in The Undercover Revolution, Iain Murray, p 13 Time to repent is running out! Fifth and Sixth Trumpets: Hell on earth 9:1-19 As John struggles to relay what he saw this chapter has more occurrences of the words ‘as' and ‘like' than any in the Bible. There is one thing worse than experiencing 5 months of Hell on earth – and that's experiencing eternity in Hell. Time to repent is running out! Time to repent is running out! Many people still did not repent! 9:20-21 My greater concern right now: why won't you repent? Time to repent is running out!

This is Episode 4 of Lemonaid! Welcome back to the next episode of Lemonaid. Delving into the sweet, and sometimes bitter situations in the humanitarian, aid, and political sectors! Today we welcome Paulina Odame – humanitarian professional, Woman of West Africa, and maybe the loveliest person we know (from Ghana) . Paulina has worked in her region of West Africa and in the Middle East, thinking of her experiences and contexts, Paulina decided she wanted to talk (not as a professional) about the work phenomenon of Burn out (which is defined as chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed) – something that affects us all in some way or another. What's the deal and how can we do better? Remember to give your feedback on Instagram, or Lemonaidpod@gmail.com– and subscribe wherever you listen to your podcasts! This is Episode 3 of Lemonaid! This week, we are chatting with Wael Darwish who works with Danish Refugee Council in Yemen and what his motivations are to be there. He is our patriotic Lover of Lebanon, who has spent time in Syria, Iraq, and Yemen. He talks us through his passion for the Middle East, why he continues working in his region, and why his connections draw him closer and closer to home. And its not just because of his mum! Listening to Wael really affirms to us why it is so important to have a connection to the places we live and work. How can we make the most of where we are, who we work with, and what we do? There are so many big questions, expansive issues, underlying problems, and amazing successes that we are involved in and exposed to that are rarely discussed. LemonAid is going to squeeze into the sometimes sweet and sometimes bitter topics of conversation that affect us as a community. Emma has spent the last decade understanding accountability and why journalism today is more critical than ever!
